Wednesday night, we got in around 6 and it wasn't very busy yet. The hostess seated us right away with menus and not too long after our server came asking about drinks. We all just had water and it's so nice when they bring a pitcher too. We ordered 2 hamburgers, one was the Wolfjaw the other a basic cheeseburger. Both were cooked perfectly medium rare and the fries were hot and fresh. My husband ordered the Trout BLT. He didn't know what to expect and said it was very good. I ordered the small cheese Pizza. I enjoyed the sauce, I would have preferred a little more( just personal preference) there was a good amount of cheese, but the crust was awful, thin and like cardboard. I'll know better for next time. There are tables outside, but we chose to eat indoors because it was a little cooler. Everything looked nice and clean and it will definitely be on our list when we visit again.
Beautiful upscale restaurant outdoor and indoor seating. Light and friendly service. I was there for breakfast and the portions were huge and delicious entrees! I would totally go back and recommend others to try it! Picturesque views!
Just got to town for a conference, wanted to try BBQ at the Pickled Pig, but they were closed, even though the site said they were open, so I came here instead. This place is just OK, it's sort of touristy with the basic menu, but pretty dining room. I asked the server if they had good, fresh iced tea, he said yes and then brought me a bottle of ice tea, not at all what I requested. Next up was to try a cup of their onion soup. The soup came out looking beautiful, the flavor was very nice, the temperature was moderate, I would have expected it to be server hotter, since it's soup. Then I ordered their Ruben. About 10 minutes later the server came back advising the chef said he didn't have anymore of the meat for it, so they offered to make it with turkey instead and since I love a Rachel (the turkey version of a Ruben) even more, I went for it. It came out looking pretty good and tasted quite nice. The fries were warm; again, not hot, but they had a decent flavor. Overall, I can see why the reviews are mediocre at best here.
Or visiting Tupper Lake, my wife and I decided to drive into Lake Placid. Using Yelp as our guide, we decided on an Italian spot, but unfortunately, they were not open for lunch. As we walked down the street, looking at establishments and Yelp, we settled on generations! We were seated outside. The gentleman who seated us asked us if we would like water and cocktails as our waitress was a little busy with a larger table. I ordered a Manhattan of all my wife ordered one of their fruit cocktail-ish type beverages. Unfortunately I do not have the name for it. Our drinks were delivered. My Manhattan up/chilled was served in a rock glass instead of a coupe or martini glass. After that, I stuck with beer. For a starter we ordered their 716 dip, which is just another name for extremely delicious buffalo chicken dip! Probably the highlight of our meal! My wife ordered their quesadilla for her main course while I ordered the German onion soup and half Caesar salad, adding bacon to it. The German onion soup was very delicious, chalk, full of onions and a rich beefy flavor! My wife was not thrilled with her quesadilla. They were trying to do some new fashioned flavors that did not do well with her. My Caesar salad, adding bacon was very good! We did not get a dessert. Sitting on the porch outside really set our day of sightseeing!
Probably one of the worse meals I've had recently. As you can see most of the reviews left in the past month have been one star. This place has really gone downhill - the servers, the quality of food and customer service. Go anywhere else in LP; don't come here. The lettuce was soggy. I had two thin slices of avocado that were brown. And my drink was very watery. I've been here before but this place has definitely gone downhill. If you want a good lunch, I recommend hitting up another restaurant on the main strip. I won't be back. In response to the manager - That is a lie. I didn't finish my drink or my food. I did inform her of the lack of freshness, quality and level of disappointment, as I have frequented this establishment. I will not be back. When I walked out, half of my drink was left, as well as more than half of my salad. Work on your quality. In response to the owner - I did actually have an issue with the drink and the food; I spoke with the server regarding this. It was not rectified, which is why I called and emailed after my visit. I did not receive a response. The avocado the server brought out was brown and hard. My drink was never remade and continued to be watery. If you saw this, you would've also noticed the brown lettuce and watery drink.
The place was very empty at 9am and still waited to get sat for almost 10 minutes. Got my table and was poured water and was asked if I wanted any other beverage. Took me off guard as by the lack of introduction or interaction I didn't realize this was the server. I thought it might be a food runner. When he came back with coffee he asked if I needed more time. I said no and ordered Adirondak eggs. It took a very long time to come out. When it did the plate was messy with sauce dripping off the edge so I whipped that off. Then when I went to cracked open the poached eggs (the first thing I always do) they were fully cooked. I pushed my plate to the edge of the table without taking one bite and turned in my chair and just kept looking at the server. The server took a table of 5/6 people's orders and then disappeared. I waited and waited and he never came back out. I finally had to get up and go to the front to find someone after over 30 minutes there. I went to the front desk and no one was there and the. Went and stood at the service station for a couple minutes before I got someone's attention. I explained the situation. They offered a new meal and that the server was new and training (being on your own left to make major mistakes is not training). My food most likely sat in the window and overcooked because he can't time manage, he never checked back on me, no one on the floor observing to ensure poor service is not happening. At this point they were even busier and I had no faith they could get me food out in a timely manner, cooked right and not rushed. I told them if you're charging $20 for 2 poached eggs they better be right. They agreed but I didn't feel like they truly cared. It was the "I'm not going to chase you down to stay" comment that did it. I was shaking from low blood sugar and 2 coffees and just wanted the food that I came there specifically for after looking at the menu on line. Such a shame. Great views of the lake and mountains but food and service unacceptable for what they are charging. I can't recommend.
We come here every year when we visit Lake Placid. Always experienced good service and good food. I had the ADK salmon (luke warm upon arrival but waitress took it back to kitchen and made it right). Husband enjoyed pizza.
Great place near the Olympic rinks. Never heard of German Onion soup but absolutely loved it. Great casual vibe with a great view of mirror lake and the mountains. Burger was great and price was reasonable for the portions.
This is a cute place if you're looking for a chill place to rest and enjoy a meal. Service was excellent and the pretzel was delicious. I also ordered some Italian wedding soup which was not bad. The shepard's pie was a bit too salty and oily for my liking and ended up making me sick but overall this was a nice restaurant to relax and people watch. The exterior is very cute and if you get seated outdoors, they have heaters underneath the roof to keep you warm.
Bartender at the Boat Tasting Room recommended Generations. We waited about 15 minutes for our table which was fine on a busy Saturday evening. Ordered boneless wings with spicy peach sauce and got a huge amount of them! Split a pizza - The Boathouse - which was good. I ordered a half salad but never got my dressing. Drinks were ok...after spending a couple hours at the tasting room all other drinks paled in comparison.
Location was great, outdoor seating, has a great view. Our server was super friendly and attentive. Food was OK, was a little bummed that when I had ordered the gluten-free eggs Benedict they didn't mention that the hollandaise sauce had gluten so wouldn't be on it, so paid for eggs and toast and ham.

Very nice brunch with a great menu. On main street . There is inside seating that they are really adhering to social distancing . They have removed many tables to keep patrons far away from each other. It is a very large restaurant inside. That said we are still only eating outdoors now due to covid. The outside deck has umbrellas up but somehow they never seem to keep the sun away, so it can get very hot in the late morning and ally afternoon! Food was well presented and delicious. Portions good. read more
Not sure if I'm giving 5 stars because it's the first restaurant I've been in since early March......but the German Dip sandwich was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS! The service was top notch and the restaurant was very attentive to social distancing. And the fries were perfectly crisp...I wish they gave us a bigger portion! They had hand sanitizer through restaurant. They have a really big space, unfortunately they can only fill to 50% capacity due to Covid. We had a great time. The Mediterranean mule drink was ok, a little weak. My hubby had the Reuben which he said was good, a little pricey though. Nothing like Katz's in NYC. But we understand, this is a tourist area. Thanks for a great meal! Update 8/3/20 *** Came back here for another mini vacation. This was our first dinner of this trip. I had the German dip again but this time wasn't as spectacular as the first time. The fries were definitely not as good as before-they were not fresh and crispy. I would bump this down to a 3 for this trip. read more

We've been coming up to Lake Placid for Christmas for two years now and have to say that Generations is a must stop for breakfast during our trip! Generations has a nice cozy dining room with a fireplace. Their breakfast menu has a variety of breakfast fare, with options like egg scrambles, omelette, French toast and pancakes. My favorite option on the menu is the Armstrong omelette. It comes with cheese, ham, bacon, AND the most delicious maple sausage. It comes with a side of hash browns and toast. My dad got the Hasselhoff- a breakfast Bavarian pretzel (the first ive ever seen- what a unique idea). I stole a bite and let me tell you it was delicious!! I'd love to come in again another time to try out their lunch and dinner. If it's anything like their breakfast, I'm sure it is a treat! read more
This was the first restaurant I stopped at during my Lake Placid trip. I checked into my hotel at 5:30pm and had a reservation for 6:45pm to eat at Generations. Showed up 3 minutes late but was sat right away by the friendly host. Our server was very nice and attentive. Drinks and food came out quickly. It wasn't very crowded, but this was on a Thursday in June. I started with the German Onion Soup. It was very flavorful. I love me some French Onion. Their version uses Beer, Pretzel Bread and Swiss/Muenster Cheese. For my entree, I had the "Forever Wild" Ziti. It had a Pesto Sauce with Mozzarella and Tomatoes. The portion was huge! I had to take half of it to go! I'll definitely be back next time I'm hiking in the area... I want to tackle The Hasselhoff for breakfast... which is a Bavarian Pretzel stuffed with an Omelette, Home Fries, and your choice of Meat. read more

An American restaurant with outstanding burgers and great service. Huge servings I felt like I was bursting after the meal. Definitely satisfied my burger craving, they have many different burgers to offer and pizzas too. Loved the poutine appetizer. The star taken away is because it just wasn't mindblowing, but really grateful for how spacious the tables were set up and they definitely care about safety! read more

The food was excellent. Ate there for a breakfast, and Thanksgiving dinner. I was not disappointed and you shouldn't be either. The place was clean and roomy. The staff were friendly and quick. Definitely check this place out if in the area. The Golden Arrow is also a great place to stay when in the area. read more

I've been to this restaurant twice, once in summer 2019 for dinner and once summer 2021 for breakfast. Both of my visits were really enjoyable and I didn't notice in difference in service or food quality on my second visit compared to my first which is a relief since lots of businesses in the area seem to be struggling due to the pandemic. Food both times was fresh and interesting - got the Generations Green salad for dinner (not sure if this is still on the menu) and the Wright Peak French Toast for breakfast. The waitress who served me on my last visit was fantastic and accommodating - I asked if I could have an egg on the side for my protein instead of a meat and she was happy to put that in for me. The building is also very light and spacious inside with lots of patio seating. Prices are also pretty good, especially for the quality of food. read more

Hi Bennoch B,…
We went here two nights on our vacation to Lake Placid. We were staying across the street so it was very convenient. They have happy hour every night until 7 PM. The restaurant overlooks the lake. On Friday night they had a live band in the bar. They played at a volume where you could still have a conversation. For dinner we had the delicious homemade pretzel appetizer and a chicken sandwich special. The service was good. They have a fire place in the dining area. It is a large restaurant so you can bring a larger group. read more

We had lunch with our school-age kids in tow. Right in the middle of town, so it's an easy choice. Something for everyone on this menu! Great ski food: hearty and not just your typical fare. Parents: kids meals don't just come with fries. Kids chicken strips also came with a healthy serving of fresh carrots and celery. Nice to see! read more

Thank you, Heidi! We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed the new…
3.5 I'll be blunt up front...While Generations rated nearly 4 stars, it fell just a bit short in 2 categories. 1-hosting lapses, 2-a pair of food faux pas On our first visit we stood and waited after entering the door nearest the bar. While it appeared the restaurant was not crowded, the bar was. And we waited...and waited and nearly left. Finally the hostess came rushing out of the kitchen with a bag (apparently a carry-out order) and eventually came to ask if we wanted to be seated. I gave her an exasperated sigh..and indicated, "yes." While we waited for our food, we watched as our initial experience played out for other patrons. The greeter was appallingly lackadaisical and with an attitude of "meh, so what." Thank goodness our server was much more attuned to his guests and he checked back on us (appropriately) several times. He explained the menu carefully, offered to bring a sample of a local brew I wanted to try before purchasing, and was cheerful and polite. Onto the food: both our dinners were good (with a slight exception - read on). 1. Grilled Salmon on top of a bed of greens with peaches, walnuts and goat cheese crumbles. Great grill on one side of the fish but flabby skin on the other; plus an overabundance of red onions (see the photo). That amount of onion is a big uh-oh for a relatively mild-flavored dish like this. 2. An out-of-this world Waygu Burger that was undeniably the best burger I have ever tasted! Simply irresistible. ***** Kudos to the chef for using locally sourced foods from Giroux's Poultry Farm (eggs), Heidelberg Artisan Bread (featuring no preservatives or additives), McKenzie's artisan deli meats (no nitrates, no hormones & no antibiotics!), Donahue Family Farms Angus beef (Zowie!!!) And another pat on the proverbial back for growing their own herbs and spices on their rooftop garden (see photo). So....better greeters, crisp up that salmon skin, and cut back on the eye-watering "Allium Cepa" and you're on the way to more stars on our next visit. read more

We ate here Saturday for lunch while in Lake Placid for the 40th anniversary celebration, all 4 of us thought the food was awsm. We started with the Pizza pictured, Wow, it was an explosion of flavor, just delicious. Carmelized onions, roasted red peppers, cauliflower crust, mesclun mix with a balsamic reduction. I had a steak sandwich, again, just delicious, bread was crispy, meat was tender and juicy, cheese melted perfectly and the Au Jus hot as it's supposed to be. Service and drinks were great, we'd go back, highly recommend. read more

This is a good little spot to grab a quick sit-down breakfast. We went on a Sunday morning at 8:30 and it was calm and quiet. The service was attentive and speedy. We were in and out in about 45 mins with a party of 5. The presentation of all the dishes were fantastic. I was definitely not expecting breakfast plates to be present in a fine dining style; it was a pleasant surprise. I had the Mt. Emmons omelette and the chipotle aioli was fantastic. However, the f.g.t. Arnold was probably the dish we all liked the most. They both indoor and outdoor seating, we chose to sit inside because it was a bit chilly in the morning. The restaurant sits on the edge of Mirror Lake so I'm sure the outside seating in the back has a gorgeous view! read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND over all the other restaurants on Main Street! The German Dip sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had!! The juicy shaved steak with caramelized onions and melted mozzarella cheese, served with au ju and a pickle. The wraps were good, the Cuban too! Served quickly and everyone at the table loved their food! read more

Definitely a restaurant I would come to again when we're back at Lake Placid! The service was fast, the food was delicious - nicely prepared, our waiter was very attentive and engaging with our table and we got seated right away. Its attached right to the Golden Arrow, so if you're staying there it's right next door. I was so surprised to see that they carry drinks I've ever only seen in two other places before! And the pitchers are huge! I recommend getting one for the table. Oh! And the views from our seats were absolutely beautiful, overlooking the lake right behind us - we came here during the winter, but I can only imagine how beautiful it looks during the summer since theres a little garden of flowers on the deck. read more
