I booked this place for dinner because it was one of the only places that took dinner reservations. The food was not good. No one liked what they ordered. I tried the scallops which were ok, but for $36 you should get more than 4 tiny scallops. Brussel sprouts were drowning in oil. Our server Dale was pleasant and did a good job. It was a chilly night so asked them to turn on the outside heaters but were told they were out of proposer. Overall this place was disappointing. And the kitchen! Come on! Last minute orders for five people and they nailed it! Presentation, flavors, temperature, spice, pairings, all perfect. Who expects so much at the last second for a tired kitchen staff at the end of a long day? Seriously nailed it. We aren't putting this review in after eating, but the next day after saying "oh my god, that food last night was so good!" We stay at the hotel attached for 2 weeks every year and order room service often from the establishment after long days of running around at the horse show. The food is good with decent quality ingredients...but mistakes are made often, and when we asked for the mistakes to be fixed(like bringing sauces asked for or included, or an undercooked burger, chicken or salmon being cooked more for safety reasons just to name a few of many-and we like med rare, so obviously this was beyond rare), we were consistently spoken to with disregard and had to CONVINCE them to fix or pay for to re order in person at the bar or we were just told they were closing soon, so if we didn't receive our order, we just had to pay for what wasn't received or the incorrect order unsafe items. Because it was an easy option in a town that doesn't have much open late, we always end up ordering and just hoping it's going to come somewhat correct...but I have to say, each year we spend maybe $700 over the 2 weeks on room service, and at least $300 worth of it is incorrect or unsafe or never brought. But, go to items that tend to come correct and are very good are the Caesar Salad, the French onion soup and the breakfasts. read more

The wait staff was very friendly and the best items on the breakfast menu (IMO) were the blueberry pancakes, french toast and the egg burrito. They did a nice job of spacing out the tables and food came out relatively quick. Tip to guests staying at the Golden Arrow- We pre-paid $20 pp for breakfast as part of the booking process. I would not recommend for others and suggest ordering a la carte. Most items average $10 plus $2.50 for coffee or juice so it felt a bit dubious that the hotel would us as a couple $40 a day for a breakfast that averaged out to be roughly $25 - $28. When calling the hotel to inquire about how the breakfast vouchers worked, they failed to mentioned it was at Generations and implied that I would not be able to get breakfast without a voucher. This is a miscommunication from the front desk, so didn't want to ding the restaurant so it is not reflected in this rating. read more

Came in for Trivia on a Tuesday night and was pleasantly surprised at how much fun we ended up having. Before it started we ordered drinks, a reuben and an open faced roast beef sandwich. If there's a reuben on the menu, I have to try it and this one was was delicious. It was on the smaller side ($15, slightly overpriced in my opinion) but the meat was tender, the bread was perfectly toasted and it had that great reuben flavor. The fries were yummy and crispy too. My boyfriend on the other hand wasn't as happy with his sandwich as he said it lacked in flavor. The service was friendly and attentive all night. My boyfriend and I just ate lunch here before leaving Lake Placid to head home and we are so glad we did. I ordered the German dip and it was so delicious and very filling. My boyfriend ordered the Rueban sandwich and also loved it. He ordered a Rueban at another restaurant and said this one was much better. We wished we could have ordered the Bavarian Pretzel appetizer but we weren't hungry enough. We both agreed we want to come back for dinner the next time we are in lake placid. This review is based entirely on the demeanor of the hostess. It would be a single star if not for the bartender. We entered, approached the hostess stand and, very politely, asked for a table for two. Without a word, but having looked me straight in the eye, she grabbed two menus, spun on her heel and led us to a table right in the center of the back dining room/kitchen/bathroom thoroughfare. I asked if food was served at the bar. She said "sure", spun on her heals and walked away. Hmm. Later, while sitting at the bar, I got up to hold the side door for an elderly couple with the gentleman with a walker. After they exited she came in the same door from outside and with a scowl and glare looked me up and down before entering the door I was still holding. No words spoken. Our neighbors at the bar saw the whole thing and asked what THAT was all about. Curiously, the next day, we ran into friends who had also eaten there that night. Their reaction, when told the story was, "You mean the one with the neck tattoo and the RBF ?" (look it up). They had a similar experience. I travel internationally for a living and have experienced every level of service around the world for the last 30 years. This person has no business whatsoever being in contact with the public, much less the unwelcoming face of restaurant. Absolutely appalling personnel placement. read more

Decided to go to bar and order drinks for my party, while still waiting. Although I enjoy my beer, we are still waiting for a return from the wait staff. It has been two beer since we last saw a staff member while the other table has been served, paid their tab and have left. Still pretty quiet, so unsure what the staff does on their free time. No clue why all the negativity in the reviews. I cannot speak to other peoples experiences but mine was great! We visit Lake Placid very year for the ECAC Hockey tournament. We found a few go to places and are still looking for some more. Every year so far we have walked past Generations and have been curious about it because it did specials based on each team in the tournament. So, we had some free time around lunch and figured, why not? As a party of 4 around 11:45, we were seated right away. Our waitress was super nice and gave us all the time we needed. Our party ended up trying two of the soups (German Onion & their soup du hour of Bacon Cheddar Potato), a flat bread that had BBQ pork and cheese, and a bratwurst (the wini). The food was all pretty quick and great. The potato soup could have been a bit thicker but the flavor was good. The German Onion soup was to die for. Definitely worth going back just for that. I'm a bratwurst kinda girl and this one did not disappoint. The flat bread was also great. Awesome cheese. A bit pricy but fair for the portions. All of the sizes were big, especially for a lunch. When one of our party trekked back to the hotel to get our car, the waitstaff didn't mind us sitting and talking. Definitely got to make this a regular place when we come back. read more

My husband and I are staying at Golden Arrow Resort for a few days so we ate dinner at Generations tonight. To be honest, I was not expecting anything really nice. My husband and I can be picky so we were worried because the menu seemed sort of limited to us when viewing it online. I was totally wrong. It's spacious, comfy, fabulous service and totally delicious food. They also had a list of daily specials which added more options to the menu. I ordered the German Dip, it was soooooo good, I will never be able to have a French dip again without missing the German Dip. Melted in my mouth!! The portion of French fries was big too, I couldn't even finish half of them. My husband ordered the Generations burger and was pleasantly surprised. He said that you could really taste the fresh meat. We also got a side of kettle chips ($2) which wasn't listed on the menu, but they gladly complied when my husband asked if he could have it. Again, everything was freshly homemade and absolutely delicious. The tables were spaced out more than any other restaurant we've been too, which was nice to see. The waiter not only had a mask and gloves on, he also purposely kept his distance when taking our order and conversing. He was great with checking on us and refilled our drinks without us asking. This place is disgusting. Host told me there was no waitlist or reservations available. Upon arrival, 5 minutes after my phone call, she refused a seat for me and my 2 guests. The restaurant was empty. I was told somebody made a reservation between my call & arriving. When I showed up & asked to see the reservation it did not exist. A patron of the restaurant tried to fight me, over taking a picture of the hostess due to her extremely rude behavior. Restaurant is a joke, wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.
