Delicious and healthy options!! I couldn't say better things about the food we got. The tomatoes on my sandwich were incredible. I also enjoyed the citrus turmeric spritzer. Loved how the salad had spirilized zucchini. Loved the beet spread too. I wish I would have been able to go back a second time during my short visit to Lake Placid. Husband and 9 year-old loved the chili and cornbread, and I overstuffed myself a bit by eating both the outstanding sweet potato and broccoli rabe gribiche and nearly-as-awesome Thai chickpea soup (without the noodles to make it gluten free). The gribiche was truly unique and incredibly flavorful; I remarked to my husband that I wished I could cook this well. Whoever's making these recipes is a genius. There was room for us to sit at the sweet and well-designed counter along the window, but we got our lunch to go and had a picnic at the hotel. I've been to the Good Bite Kitchen a couple times and it never disappoints! I love the house salad with the maple vinaigrette - when I was there last weekend, it came with chickpeas, roasted peppers, smoked gouda and avocado. Everything is fresh, healthy, whole and delicious. My only recommendation would be to serve a bit more avocado on the salad - it came with about 1/4 of an avocado, but the salad was huge and there's no such thing as too much avo! The service, decor, style, menu - all perfection. So many yummy options from salads, grain bowls, zucchini noodles, sandwiches, and some sweets that sell out quickly! This place has become a weekly habit... growing into a tradition. Owned and operated by an artist, she never fails to disappoint. The House salad is a staple for myself and my girlfriend. It uses a combination of flavors that keep the salad appetizing and fresh without being overwhelming, and has filling veggies like avacado in it to keep you from needing -more-. My problem with salads is that I'm a fat kid, salads are what the food eats. I've since changed my opinion. The quiche is also to die for, "Dog good" as I think of it... so good you eat it and are left with an empty plate wanting more. Lets see.. what else. The Apple cider is fantastic. I usually make the mistake of buying some pre-made pile of crap at Starbucks so I rarely remember to get it. Don't make that mistake, its worth it. Strolling along Main Street in Lake Placid, The Good Bite jumped out as the most intriguing must-visit spot in town. And we are sure glad we visited, nourishing ourselves with healthy and delicious treats on our way to climb Cascade Mountain. TGB is ultra-cozy, a sleek line-up of just half-a-dozen swing-out bar stools against a slim wood-grained counter, with an additional 2-3 seats in a small outdoor nook. The interior is narrow but well-lit and cheery, and a hand-written daily specials menu greets you on unfurled butcher paper hung from the wall inside the doorway. We decided to maximize the variety and diversify the color scheme of our lunch by selecting the daily soup, hand pie and smoothie. Each was an ideal complement to the other, and arrived fresh, lovingly-prepared and creatively-imagined from the kitchen to the small corner of counter-top we had secured. The soup was an heirloom tomato gazpacho, smooth with a hint of pepper and a drizzle of cilantro-infused yogurt. Amazingly refreshing. To offset the lightness of the soup, we dove into a black bean, white corn, and cheddar hand pie, a homemade delicacy with buttery, soft crust in artistic folds and pinches. The filling was piping hot and perfectly seasoned, and if I were looking to take a nap and not a hike I might have ordered up two or three more. This place could convert even the most diehard meatatarian! The Good Bite focuses on what's most important in a vegetarian menu: fresh locally sourced ingredients, perfectly prepared, and served with loving care. With a menu board located just outside this very small gem of a restaurant, my excitement was piqued when I saw zucchini noodles. These 'noodles' can be chosen as the base for a menu "Bowl" selection. Other base choices are brown rice and spiral pasta. The zucchini noodles were beyond good, now I get the whole spiralized trend, whoa! They're an amazing vehicle to showcase the components for the chilled Jenna bowl: Black Beans, Corn, Peach, Cabbage, Arugula, Feta, Pumpkin seeds and Jalapeno Vinaigrette. Don't be deterred by the jalapeno part of this bowl. It's a beautiful balance to the bowl ingredients with no scary heat at all. Beyond yummy! The other bowl that was delicious was the chilled Harv: White Beans, Roasted Butternut Squash, Carrots, Kale, Parmesan Cheese, Walnuts and Sage Vinaigrette. Amazing! Stopped by here while spending a day in Lake Placid. There are virtually no vegan restaurants in Lake Placid so I was quite happy to find this place. I was very happy with the entree I had and it was truly healthy! It's rather unfortunate that this place closes at 5 PM! The place is very clean. The Good Bite Kitchen is about five inches away from being too small to fit into, but I think that adds to the charm. The menu changes daily and is hung up right as you enter the dining area. The cashier that takes the order was beyond helpful with any questions that we had. This isn't your typical Lake Placid tourist trap; the prices are very reasonable and the food actually tastes good. There were two other families crammed into the dining area as we ate, and with how the kids were devouring the food their parents had bought them you'd think that they were eating chicken McNuggets smothered in Mountain Dew and Cheetos. I am not a vegetarian but I enjoy eating healthy and when you are spending a week in a house with 16 people, junk food quickly becomes the norm. I visited this restaurant to take-out lunch twice during our vacation. The first time I got a chop salad full of veggies and topped with a peanut dressing. It was delicious and my husband and I were fighting over the next bite. The second time I got the same salad but they had changed then dressing to a standard creamy vinaigrette flavor and it wasn't as good. I also picked up a fried zucchini sandwich. It was pretty tasty but could have used more oomph. Maybe some spice or crunch. Overall, I really like this place and would definitely go back. I have an easily upset stomach by fast food and I love that I have the confidence to rely on their healthy foods and drink. The concept is great in terms of freshness and healthfulness, but the execution is poor. The corn chowder was watery and tasteless. This could have simply been corrected by reducing it further, pureeing some of it and adding salt. My garden salad was good overall, but opening the box and seeing that half of the avocado was black was a big turn off. It wasn't slightly discolored, it was black...more than half of it. We eat here every chance we get. Today I had the brown rice bowl, with mild radishes, pea shoots, goat cheese, almonds, and a heavenly ramp vinaigrette. Plus a house salad to share with my husband, and a slice of apple ginger cake for dessert. The bowl was truly amazing, perfectly balanced and only slightly salty, and the house salad was equally amazing, with big chunks of avocado. I also had a slice of apple-ginger cake to go, and the cake was just perfect. Not too sweet, with slices of apple to keep it moist, and the bite of ginger was ideal. Can't say enough things about this charming lunch spot in lovely Lake Placid. So impressed with Chef Kayte's innovative takes on vegetarian / vegan cuisine. On a visit earlier in the summer we were really taken with the southwest Caesar salad as well as a light and fresh hummus sandwich. Yesterday was all about the heartier flavors of Fall with an outstanding root vegetable stew and red lentil soup. The house made whole wheat bread is the perfect companion to it all. I just had one the best sandwiches in my life. Buffalo Cauliflower is such a crazy concept for a sandwich that I had to try it and I was taken away at how fresh and flavorful it was.
