I'd become convinced that this is just the normal state of things, part of the game when owning a car. They overcharge you, you push back and work out a price that's still too high but whatever. They try selling you unneeded work, you decline, they push, you decline again, they come up with other unneeded services, you decline. Etc., etc., ad nauseum. So I've been more than a bit shocked at my experiences at Doerr's. No drama, no overcharging, no constant overselling of services, nothing. Just quiet, competent work for a fair price. You drop off the car and ask him to do an oil change? He'll do the oil change and charge you a nominal price, not 3x the going rate with an added note that you need to change your brand-new brakes because they're "wearing thin". You drop off the car for a New York inspection? He sees you need new wipers, calls to tell you so, charges you $18 per wiper - not $80 - and your car is ready for pickup. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, but, to my perpetual amazement, it never does. It's my highest compliment, one I feel uneasy giving given how many times I've been let down by other mechanics, but- this guy is honest. He and his shop are a diamond in the rough.

The car had to be towed to a dealership where an inspection found no oil in the engine block, the result of the Gulf station improperly installing the new air filter. The catastrophic oil leak required an expensive engine replacement. Even after learning of our experience, and knowing that we were without our family car due to his shop's obvious negligence, the owner then refused to cover the costs following his insurance carrier's denial of his claim. And his insurance company just told me that he did not have active coverage because he has been failing to make regular payments. That forced us to involve our own insurance in order to cover the $15k-plus worth of work. We just got it back, nearly a month after it broke down.

They are the real deal--this is a completely family run business and they treat each and every customer with respect and honesty. I am used to going to mechanics who make you feel dumb if you don't understand something or want it explained. At JC Auto Repair everyone is always friendly and willing to answer any questions in detail. You can also trust them, they have told me when I did not need certain repairs although Mavis told me I needed many expensive items. Their prices are fair, and even if an item or two could be slightly more expensive, it is 100% worth it., and absolutely worth the piece of mind that they are doing it right the first time. John the owner is amazing-he is super friendly and takes pride in the work they do-he has been a mechanic for over 50 yrs! Over the years I have tried many mechanics and generally they are in it for the money and could actually care less about their customers. Even when calling and talking to the office staff (daughter of the family) they are so kind and patient, and at times I was calling multiple times to get clarification on a service I need etc. It is so refreshing to find a mechanic that is honest, ethical and appreciates your business, and offers amazing customer service. Loyal customers for 12 years and, yet, they choose to scam us...dishonesty should not be taken…read morelightly! We brought the car for diagnostic, they called us telling that timing belt was worn out and needs replacement. The price estimate they gave us was $2000. We said that we needed to think about it because it sounded like too much for the job. They went ahead and replaced the timing belt (without replacing water pump!!! Water pump replacement should be done along with timing belt replacement-common safety practice everywhere). They told me that they spent 8.4 hours on replacing the timing belt (normal time for a professional is 2 hour, an amateur can do it in 3 hours). They charged me for the Timing Belt Kit $495.95 PLUS the belt itself $89.99 (although it is normally sold with the kit as a package for $365 maximum price). The total bill came up to $1975, and that is WITHOUT OUR CONSENT because we trusted this business for 12 years, they decided to go ahead without our approval of the estimated fee. In comparison, local Acura certified dealership charge $1555 (including tax) for changing timing belt WITH water pump replacement!!! Their professional statement, just like every other shop I asked, was that water pump should be replaced at the same time as timing belt for further engin preservation as water pump has the same wear and tear estimate as the timing belt. After speaking with Casarella's about this, they told me that they can replace the water pump at additional cost. After a day of back and forth meaningless texts, they reduced their bill to 6.4 hours of labor time, which clearly shows the how the price scam works, and their dishonesty because it only takes 2 hours to replace the timing belt at a professional auto shop!! That dishonesty in addition to overcharging for the replaced parts and NOT replaced water pump. OUTRAGEOUS!!

Figured why not get an inspection? and they were able to take me in right away, said it'll be about 45 mins which I had no problem waiting. Assuming it was the owner, was really nice . Even one of the mechanics came to make sure I was being helped.Glad this place was saved as the previous owner/operator (Billy's auto) was straight up crook.
