It's airport food so you already know it's expensive and mediocre. I wouldn't recommend coming here. I ordered the black and blue burger with an upgrade to fries. The best thing here is the fries but the burger was definitely subpar. The patty was cooked dry and definitely felt like a frozen patty. I had a hard time getting a server to find napkins for this messy burger so I had to walk up to the bar to get my own napkins. The menu I was given was gross and over used so I ordered via the QR code on the table. The good thing is that the website is pretty up to date on what is sold out but sad that truffle fries were sold out and a couple other items at 4 pm. Note that if you order via QR code, if you order and then don't order anything else for 40 minutes, they automatically charge your bill 20%. I guess it's fine since I can pay and leave quickly but not my favorite that it automatically does it in such a short time period. Overall, the menu is limited and food is not something I'd go for again. Skip this place. read more

This place is owned by Gene and Georgetti's? I am pretty surprised by this because it doesnt seem to have the same standards as the original Gene's. When we arrived there werent that many people there.We stood there long enough for two other groups of people to form behind us. When someone did show, it was a very sullen man, who did not greet us, just said "follow me" and then put two menus on a table and walked away. Its was so weird and flat that if I hadnt been starving I would have just left. Bad first impression! However, we then had a lovely, personable server, who was very efficient and professional, and definitely helped change the dour atmosphere. I ordered a Pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries. It was fine, nothing to really write home about. I have definitely had better (and cheaper) but of course at an airport there really is not much you can do. 1 Star - Worst Customer Service and Management I had one of the worst dining experiences ever at Gene's Bistro. The customer service was terrible from the moment I walked in. The servers had a bad attitude, were completely unprofessional, and acted like they were doing me a favor just by taking my order. The food was just as disappointing--bland, poorly prepared, and absolutely not worth the price. On top of that, they forced me to buy a bottle of water, which is ridiculous and shows how little they care about customers. Management was no better. Instead of fixing the issues, they ignored them and allowed the staff to continue treating customers poorly. It's clear that customer service is not a priority here. The manager on the left of the first picture seriously needs training on how to handle an unsatisfied customer. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, he focused more on defending his employees than actually fixing the problem. It's clear the owner doesn't care either--being inside an airport means they assume customers won't return, so they treat people however they want. The alcoholic drink menu prices was OUTRAGEOUS so I chose to pass on that. The food came within a reasonable time frame and honestly it was surprisingly VERY GOOD! It didn't taste like I was eating at an airport. The pork was juicy with flavor and the wrap was fried and seasoned quite well. Two of us sat down at a high-top table. Shortly after, one person went to the bathroom, and an employee came over and immediately rushed me to order. She told me that both of us had to order food or drinks if we wanted to sit there. I understand that restaurants may have seating policies, but there is a professional and respectful way to communicate them. Her attitude made us feel unwelcome and pressured before we even had a chance to settle in and look at the menu. The owner really needs to address the customer service and employee attitude. My family's experience at Gene's today was AWFUL! Our server, Tashupya was not helpful. When we arrived the busser put two small tables together to accommodate my husband, my son who needed a high chair and myself. Tashubya came over and told us to separate the tables to make more room. When I did she walked away. After sitting there for a few mins I realized my butt was in the crack so we moved back to where we originally sat. A young lady sat next to us and our server came over to tell us to use the app and then asked her what she would like. As I struggled with ordering on the app, our server came over and asked if we ordered. We told her we were trying to and she walked away. My husband wanted to know what the seasonal Sam Adams was so he got up and went to the bar to find out it was an Octoberfest. I proceeded to order our beers on the app. Then I get notified there is a 20% gratuity added if not paid in 40 mins. I paid and tipped on the two beers. Waiting for our server to come take our food order she came back and said order on the QR code. I opened a new ticket and ordered our food. Again I paid in full and tipped. We waited for 20 mins before I flagged down our server and asked her to check on our food. Waited another 7 mins before she returned with our sandwich and wrap. She didn't ask if we needed anything just dropped the food and walked away. I opened another ticket and ordered my husband another beer. We enjoyed the food but needed more napkins and water. I had wet wipes on me so I was able to use those but when it came to asking for water. Again, I flagged her down and asked for iced water for my son. She rolled her eyes at me and told me to order bottled water on the app. I asked her if they had iced water at the bar. I got up from the table and walked up to the bar and the bartender happily gave me a cup of water with ice. As I walked back to my table our server shook her head at stared at me. That was it, I went up to her and asked to speak with her manager. She was eager to go get the manager. The lady manager came out and I explained to her what happened. She told me there was nothing for her to do. My husband was furious and stated this is the worse service he has ever had. I asked the manager what she could do. I told her the server needs to be reprimanded in some way and I asked about our bill. The manager said there was nothing she could do because I paid already. At this point, I was so upset I confirmed our bill was paid in full and we left. We will not be coming back. read more

Genes Bistro is near B1 gate at Midway Airport. We stopped in for lunch and were served immediately by one of the best waiters we've ever had. His name is Tan. He was efficient, friendly and super anxious to please. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a chicken finger wrap. Both were delivered in what seemed like one minute! The plates were huge, hot and came with sweet potato fries that were a definite notch above normal. If you are in Midway and want a great lunch I highly recommend this place. I had a delicious buffalo chicken sandwich and fries here before a flight - just what I needed. Service was fast and friendly and the food is decent. A good large fried chicken patty (frozen I'm sure) and satisfying fries. They were frozen too, but fried fresh and hot. Savory buffalo sauce and plenty of real blue cheese crumbles. No complaints! I like that you can sit at the bar as a single and there's enough room for your bags. As far as airport food goes, quite decent. A single gin and tonic was $15.99 for reference. We just opted to get truffle fries as we just wanted a snack, not a full meal. They were better than their appearance with a strong truffle flavor.
