Gen Korean BBQ in Denton really exceeded expectations. From the moment we walked in, the place was clean, well-kept, and had a great atmosphere that made it easy to relax and enjoy the experience. The food was incredible,fresh, flavorful, and coming out quickly without ever feeling rushed. Everything tasted on point, and you can tell there's real attention to quality behind it. The staff was another highlight. They were fast and attentive, but also very detail-oriented, making sure everything was right and that we always had what we needed without having to ask. I also want to give a separate shoutout to the GM, Jonathan. He truly set the tone for the whole place. He was constantly present, checking in with guests, helping his team, and making sure everyone was having a great experience. You can tell he takes pride in what he does, and it really shows in how smoothly everything runs. Overall, just a great experience all around,clean environment, amazing food, and a team that clearly cares. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to. read more

Finally! A KBBQ place that's close AND it's part of the Gen family so full bar, cozy spot in the Razor Ranch area. My party of 5 got there at 12pm on a Saturday afternoon. We were able to walk right in and get seated by a party of birthday girls! We'd looked at the menu already and have had KBBQ style before - it IS different than American style BBQ so you gotta know that before going in, This location has sushi and a few other dishes too just in case someone isn't in the mood for some hot, grill action. We immediately ordered a lychee soju for the table, some beers and a lychee martini. Lychee is my favorite, slightly pear flavored, and the martini has two lychee fruit included. We started with some sushi carpacchio and a spicy Cali roll - both were good. We settled on 2 orders of Wagyu, 2 orders of bulgogi and a garlic marinated pork belly. Most meats are marinated, very flavorful. The beef bulgogi was tender and I piled the onions (white and green) on top so we could get that sear. The pork belly is a huge slice of bacon, piled high with raw garlic. Dang that is good. Make sure you appoint 2 grillmasters to sit in the middle of the table and trade off cooking. I love it because it's a communal experience and everyone is just ready for lots of yummy, grilled meats! We ordered some boneless, pork short ribs, more bulgogi, and a Sriracha, jalapeno pork something. ALL of it was amazing. It does come with small plates called banchan, basically side dishes of steamed rice, potato salad (I don't care for), pickled veggies (kimchi) that all act as palate cleansers as you're grilling up meats as fast as the party can stuff into their faces! It is definitely a feast for the senses. It is pretty expensive but worth it, the meats are delicious, you definitely need to ask for more banchan for big parties AND you can get some sushis and sashimis. I can tell it's going to be a hopping place on weekends so be sure to get rezy's if you have a party of 10. You'll leave fully satiated. I love all the dipping sauces and how quickly everthing comes out, Your party does have to be present to be seated. You won't get a lot of leftovers. You WILL get charged for uncooked, wasted meats so make sure you eat it all. AND it's a fun experience. You get 2 hours to sit there, grill to your hearts content and get the meat sweats! Go there. Get some. Life is too short for boring food, Definitely go with a group of adenturous friends who like Asian food. We went in early so we wouldn't have to wait, but in our experience, we won't be returning. Expensive and tasteless, and most of the meats were so chewy it definitely was NOT worth the price (even after using the scissors to make them bite-sized). Lunch menu was supposed to be the appetizer section and block of choices next to it, but then 3 items from that section turn out to be dinner only. Not really cool. Redo the menu so it's not confusing. THE big no no is the restroom situation!!! This review lost a star for the restroom!!! There is ONE restroom, with stalls. Not separate individual ones like at buccees, but stalls. Guys, girls, all in ONE restroom..... Pee at home before you brave this place!! Don't drink, it'll make you need to pee. The price is reasonable $21 for the lunch menu. I like the kitchen and pickle they bring out. We will go back, but I DO prefer the Korean BBQ in Lewisville mall. read more

We normally go to the Carrollton location but our server Glen was amazing and the variety of meats were excellent. Honestly he gave great ideas to try and mix meats. The sides were a lot in a good way. Kimchi cheese does have a lot of sauce so if not your flavor skip that or ask for light sauce. read more

got take out. took forever. ordered bulgogi. what i got was.....well, i am not sure. some kind of large, rectangular, cubes of strange consistency. resembled beef, but i dont think it was. i threw it out. also disappointing was the kimchee, what little there was. it came in these really tiny containers, about a half bite. hanasato has way better bulgogi. so does the taste. and koji sushi. way better service, too read more

Restaurant must have been super short staffed or just all new. Place was pretty much half empty but still took forever to be seated. At one point the hostess told us that it would be just a minute while they get the table ready. Then proceeded to wait tables for about 15-20 min before she remembered that we were waiting. Finally sat down to wait another 15 min for our server that never showed. Finally had to flag someone down to see whom our server was. Was about to walk out when our waiter finally came. We were what felt rushed out of the restaurant. Did we do something wrong? The manager, Came up to our table while we were still eating asking for payment, which was weird, but we were close to done just waiting on that last order of brisket so we paid, also, our grill was turned off. We're told have a good day and that was it, we felt disrespected and awkward so we left. We were stoked that this location opened up and decided to try it out today for my son's birthday. The food was great, our waiter was kind. We usually only order brisket so that's what we did, first round of it took a bit to cook because the fire wasn't high so we increased it very little to speed up the process, no issue. We talked, we cooked we ate. Towards the end of it, my baby did get a little fussy, was that an inconvenience? Did they think we weren't going to pay? Was it a race thing? I have had a LOT of Korean bbq. I have tried KBBQ restaurants in multiple states, even, over the span of the last decade. I have had several bad restaurant experiences in general, at restaurants of all sorts. With that said. . . This was HANDS DOWN the absolute WORST Korean bbq experience of my life and may just be the overall worst dining experience in general. To start, it was 1pm on a weekday. I know that they just opened, but they only had TWO servers in the entire place. Although there wasn't a wait - it was still busy. We went from waiting to be acknowledged, let alone seated, at the front host table, to waiting to even order. It took about 10-15 minutes for a server to come over and get our DRINK orders. We ordered WATER. It would be about 30+ more minutes before those waters were delivered. When we finally ordered the meats, they arrived in a giant mount. That was impressive to look at, but that goes away when you start cooking. The brisket turned into almost a POWDER texture. It was absolutely horrid. It looked like something that had already been chewed up and spit out. If we ordered any sort of spicy meat, it all tasted the same and wasn't very good. The pictures advertise rice paper, and generally all Gen locations I have ever been to have rice paper, but the waiter told me this location doesn't. Immediate loss of Points. Why is it advertised then? The rice came out cold. The banchan items that were automatically on the table looked like they had been sitting for days. The japchae was flavorless noodles with grilled peppers. You had to flag a waiter down to do anything, even to clear the table - they never prioritized that, so you were left eating a sub par meal, among dirty plates and trash - playing a game of Juggle as your struggle to grip any piece of enjoyment from what you know is not a cheap meal. Not ONCE was our grill changed, even when we asked. We never felt like we had what we needed as even the bare minimum and for Sure we never got several things we ordered. The grills only heat in the CENTER - that's something to note, and not something I have ever encountered before. Because of this, your food will NOT cook properly if not directly in the center, which limits you to cooking one item at a time. If you put food to the side, on the grill, it will cook all the way done and then you're left with cold rubbery meat. Our waiter was very candid and told us he had no idea why they were so short staffed - and we absolutely wasn't his or any other waiter's fault in our eyes. We appreciated him letting us know the REASON we were waiting endlessly for every single thing. The entire experience should have lasted about 90 minutes for us. Instead we were there, essentially held hostage by our experience, for THREE HOURS. Even trying to pay took way longer than it needed to. Also, the bills are not Itemized, so you don't know if they are charging you properly or not. I also overheard the table next to us have a lot of issues, as well. Obviously I suggest no one go here. Drive the 20 mins to the one in Carrollton that likely runs much smoother. Wait for the Denton location to work out all The kinks, if at all Possible. OR try a different kbbq place altogether. Back in CA I would never choose GEN. But being that it's the only AYCE kbbq place in Denton, we were willing to Give it a shot. read more

Came here with a group of friends for their grand opening towards the end of the night and had such an amazing experience! The staff and managers were so helpful, and even after what looked like a very busy day all the team members were smiling and cheerful! The food is amazing as always from Gen.
