First impression:: My fiancé is from Chicago and has wanted to try this place for a while. We were walking around the city and needed a rest stop to grab some beers and food. Since it was so Nice outside, the patio to the Gemini looks so inviting. We were a little late for lunch so there was no crowd outside but there were several people who were happy to help us. Food/Drinks:: We had dinner reservations so we only wanted to grab a snack, and at first glance the menu items are a bit on the pricey side. But the plates are so beautiful and they taste so good that it is no doubt worth the price. They had an amazing beer list and our waiter was very helpful with my selection as there were a few that I had never tried. I had the Maplewood Charlatan ($8) and my fiancé had the Left Hand Sawtooth ($7). Both were very tasty. Mine had a lot more flavor and a great hobby finish. I wanted to go with a logger because it was so hot outside, but he is shirred me that this would still be a refreshing choice. The food on paper looks great. My fiancé and I had no trouble in both picking the same two starters we wanted to split. Duck Confit Nachos ($17) & the Greek Lamb Meatballs ($15). I'm going to post the pictures of our food but on first to look they are super tiny compared to the price. I have had nacho plate for way less that are at Mountain. But honestly the food was so good! I took my half of the nachos down in one by each because it had the perfect amount of pepper, cheese, avocado that you need while The deck was still feeling and tender and very tasty. If I could only suggest one it would be the nachos for sure. The meatballs were amazing too. Also a one bite app, with the perfect amount of Tzatziki sauce and a very unique seasoning flavor, that I think was the fennel. If I had more time in Chicago I would definitely come back to this place for dinner. Interior is quite lovely, but service continues to decline (and annoy) and food is hit or miss, especially given the prices. Example: to swap included hash browns side in dish you get up charged $3. We ordered out from Gemini for a celebratory dinner and it was delicious! My husband ordered the salmon (likely some of the best salmon I have had in many, many years) and I ordered the risotto. We also ordered some rolls (EXCELLENT, you must order the rolls!) to enjoy, and enjoy we did! The risotto was tasty and very well cooked, but I think I will have to order the salmon the next time we go to or order out from Gemini (yes, we will be back!). CRW 2019 brunch review 1/26 I totally underestimated this restaurant. I thought it would be small proportions d/t the $$$ and a cramped space based on location. Boy was I wrong! Ambiance: Modern with natural lighting. The space is small but not cramped by any means. I reserved the table for 10 (8 came) and we were at a half booth/table seating. We didn't feel squished at all. Service: Our waiter didn't mind taking a few polaroids of the group. He even offered to take more if we wanted! The dishes came out in a timely manner and he split the checks between each pair. Food: It was my first time splitting into pairs for RW so we could share different dishes, which -whew!- because I was having a tough time deciding only one from each category! Everything sounded delicious. Sticky cinnamon buns (4/5): Not too sweet and big portion for one person! We really had to push ourselves to finish it because it was a lot. Hmmm I'm wondering why didn't we just take some home lol Mini chorizo empanadas (5/5): A hit at the table! When they say mini, they mean mini. I kind of wished my friend and I both ordered this because two pieces each left us wanting more! Chicken parm cutlet (5/5): Great sandwich. The flavor, breading, cheese, and garlic aioli all came together. The fries were okay. Mexican chorizo chilaquiles (5/5): One of the best chilaquiles I've had. It was super flavorful, I loved the sauces, and liked how it was topped with fried egg. The chocolate: We both ordered this for dessert so no sharing here! The creme was light and refreshing, not dense and heavy (although we were quite full by this time). I really enjoyed this dessert. The cookies were a nice touch but I thought they were too sweet. The place is good. But the issue here is how they let kids kinda take over and dominate. They put high chairs in the aisle to the bathroom, so nobody could walk easily through, especially older people with walkers. They really should not be putting chairs like that in the path people need to walk. This is also NOT wheelchair assessable when they put high chairs out like that. High chairs should only be at the tables where there is space, not the booths. I will also say the prices are very high for what you get. Good drinks but smaller pours than any where else in the neighborhood. This place would be great, but they would rather it be a playground for families so that ruins the vibe and experience. read more

Came here for a weekend brunch with my parents and thought it was pretty good overall. We got the bloody mary's, not bottomless, but they were really good. The habanero vinegar was a perfect kick in there, so that's probably what I was most impressed by. Food was alright, we got the flight of pastries and really liked those and it was a fun way to split them and try them all. I ordered the veggie frittata, which I though lacked in flavor. I wish the salad on top had some vinegar to add a pop, or served with a side of sour cream, as it was, I thought it wasn't the best choice. The rest of the table ordered eggs benedict, which those were good and the bacon was nice and thick, and then some steak and eggs. Steak and eggs were above average, the steak wasn't really what I was expecting with the char on it and the two plates cook was a little inconsistent on them though they both ordered medium rare. The hash browns, also are not really hash, they are potato chunks that are really nice and crispy, so not complaining on that, just not what I would expect with a hash. Service was really good and our waitress was super friendly. It's definetly a good place to try, especially with the quality of drinks and the bottomless brunch, but food alone isn't something I would recommend it on. read more

Great local bistro! We had the 1/2 chicken and hanger steak. So yummy! The sauce for the chicken made the whole dish. The truffle Parmesan fries are also great to order for the table. Lots of great wines and cocktails to choose from. I recommend the Hemington daiquiri. If you can sit outside on their patio, it's also a great date night spot (the inside was quite loud). Gemini is a Lincoln Park brunch classic! I have never been for dinner. They've got a good menu, with both sweet and savory options. Staff was very kind, and outdoor seating can be nice if not too hot. The food comes in good-sized portions, leaving you satisfied and full. I recommended the mushroom benedict (or any of the benedicts), strawberries and cream waffles, empanadas, truffle-part fries, and greek lamb meatballs. I would not recommend the chilaquiles here; they weren't my favorite. Mimosas are always a great addition too MUST: order the sticky buns at brunch!!!! So delicious! read more

We love Gemini and it has become our usual Sunday night dinner spot. It's a convenient two minute walk from the house for us but if you're driving, there is lots of free parking nearby. I recommend setting up a reservation to be on the safe side, especially if you want patio seating. If you're looking for a last minute slot, the bar hasn't let us down yet. The menu is on the smaller side but each item is always good. We usually grab a 1-2 apps (octopus is delicious and mussels are good), 2 mains (roasted 1/2 chicken and blackened pork tenderloin, and a side (the brussels are my absolute favorite and truffle parm fries are yummy too). If you're not too hungry, the salads are good but quite small from a portion standpoint. Sunday's specialty is the fried chicken dinner and comes with quite a bit of food (we usually go home with leftovers). I love the cocktails and think bartenders always do a great job with these. We have found the service to be delightful each time we've gone. If it seems service is slow, it is most likely because they are busier than they planned or someone called in sick. They take a lot of pride in their service so cut some slack if you find yourself in this situation. The manager has always walked around to check on everyone and ensure they are enjoying their meal and drinks are full. What a remarkable place! Shocked that I wasn't aware of it. We went with friends and started with lobster rolls and tuna tartare. A great way to start. Then we had a small tomato salad followed by an outstanding small wedge salad. The bacon chunks melted in our mouth. Then the entrees. Our server suggested a swordfish chop, which I would have never thought to try. Amazingly good! The vegetable tortellini, pancetta wrapped chicken, and Ahi tuna tataki were also outstanding. It's hard to believe these amazing meals came from this small casual restaurant! I can't wait to try the rest of their food! I almost forgot the side of truffle parm fries. Dessert was equally good. Luckily, this past Saturday, my boyfriend made a 6:30 reservation to take me here for dinner to celebrate a relationship milestone. WOO! First of all, it was beauuuuutiful inside. I knew in advance from Yelp reviews that it was upscale, so I was surprised to see a big, honkin' TV in the middle of the room at the bar area. But I guess people like their sports. I don't know how they can focus on them, though, with the incredible menu here! I was raised to be very frugal, but my boyfriend loves to go all out when we dine out, so he always picks an appetizer or two. He ordered the Parker House Rolls, because, and I quote, he was "impressed that they charge you to put bread on the table." I hadn't even thought of that, but, damn, the bread was exquisite and fluffy. So, fine, Gemini. Charge me for my bread. Along with our starters, we also ordered a bottle of wine. We're both red lovers, so we went with the Château Loudenne. It did the trick, friends. This is my wine recommendation. Also, please don't be impressed with my memory of the wine's name -- I just looked it up again on their menu. 0:) After we ate all of the rolls, we were ready for our entrees, of course! He went with the Atlantic Swordfish Chop (which doesn't come with a side, so you're aware, though they tell you this upon ordering), and he loved it. It was a nice, thick chop. I love a good Tortelloni, so I ordered... a burger. Just kidding, I ordered the Vegetable Tortelloni. It was fabulous. I do wish the portion was a little larger, but when you're at fancy spots, that's usually just not the case! Somehow we still had room for dessert, and I'd seen a crème brûlée walk by earlier, so crème brûlée was what I wanted. Badly. Gemini Bistro standing valiantly at the intersection. As you step inside, you immediately feel the warm and inviting atmosphere and it beckons you to come in. Dark woods and leather booths ooze a casual, elegant, sensuous, cozy, romantic feel. Large drum pendants cast a beautiful sepia-toned glow onto the patrons below. A delightful greet from the host. A coat rack conveniently located behind the host stand if you choose to get rid of your bulky winter coat. My best girls and I settled into our booth. A wonderful glass of Pinot Noir warmed me up while we waited for our first course selections to arrive. Though it was Restaurant Week, we decided to sample a few things off the regular dinner menu. The beet salad was the only thing that was a bit off to me, didn't taste as great as I would've imagined. The potato leek soup was buttery and delicious. Short rib ravioli with tomato marmalade was fabulous, the sweetness of the marmalade added a nice unique flavor. We got the last swordfish of the night and lucky us, it was heavenly!! Served with Roma tomatoes, olives, and capers, it was flavorful and well prepared, probably the best dish of the night. The mushroom risotto was creamy and delicious. Grilled lamb chops--juicy and flavorful--my second favorite dish of the night. Carrot cake for dessert, lighter tasting than your usual carrot cake but still good. I wish it hadn't been served so cold, it should have been warmed up to room temperature. Our server Jen was knowledgeable about the menu and provided great recommendations. We had so many great dishes but there was still so much more I wanted to try. I look forward to coming back here with someone very special. read more

Biggest epiphany of the meal: Gemini Bistro is now my go-to place for mussels AND risotto! Wow, the mussels au pernod were heaven on earth! Flavorful (bacon-y, creamy, savory), easy to eat, and plentiful: the triple threat that all foods strive to be! Anyone who's dined with me regularly in the past few months will notice that I'm a martini gal, specifically a lemon drop martini gal. So, of course, having had a long, draining week, Friday night dinner was the perfect occasion to try Gemini's take on the LDM. I'm surprised to say that I really didn't care too much for it (though if you were to ask me if I finished it all, the answer would be yes). Heavy handed on the vodka meant little lemon flavor came through; balance is important people! Other than that, service was good, and the tables were a little cramped in proximity to one another. Second of all, took them like 30-40 minutes to get our order ready to be delivered on our table. I ordered a crab cake benedict, eggs cooked well.. BUT the crab cake tasted so fishy.. and firm... look like they either reheated the crab cake or it's just frozen crab cake! And they charge $22 for this!! Totally not worth it! Gemini has been on my restaurant bucket list for a long time, so when I saw they had a restaurant week deal I booked a reservation immediately. Unfortunately, they did not live up to my expectations. I have a severe nut allergy to five specific nuts, which I noted when I booked the reservation, and when we checked in the hostess asked to confirm that someone in our party had a nut allergy, so I thought everything was fine. However, after we had ordered pastries (chocolate croissant) and already started eating, our waitress came up to the table and asked if someone had a nut allergy. I said yes but that I had ordered the chocolate croissant, not the granola, and then asked if there were nuts in the croissant. She said there might be and went to ask the kitchen, and then came back to tell me that she could neither confirm nor deny if there were nuts in the croissant and if there were couldn't tell me what types of nuts would be there. I found this bizarre, confusing, and pretty scary! For a place that knew about my allergy going in and asked when I arrived about it, I don't really understand how I didn't get warned about possible nuts (but not sure what type of nuts) until I was already eating the food. Also, the fact that they couldn't say what kinds of nuts might be there indicates they don't make a lot of stuff in-house. Really not the experience I'm looking for when I go out. The rest of the food was mediocre (eggs benedict, turkey club, lobster caesar), just overall pretty bland. They also apparently only have white bread as a sandwich option which seems strange. The best thing about this place is the interior aesthetic, but aesthetic can only get you so far. Sadly, I don't think I'll be returning. read more

We LOVE Gemini. Ultimately, I have nothing but great things to say about this place! The ambience is dim but not dark, rumbly but not noisy or loud, and toes the line of upscale casual. My partner and I came in for our anniversary a few weeks ago and we were received with incredible hospitality, complimentary champagne to celebrate, and friendly and attentive service from our servers, Ozzie and Charles (who was training at the time). We started with the prosciutto and burrata crostini, which was very well-balanced and delicate, and mussels provencal, which were a home run. I had the trout meunière -- so fabulous that even the leftovers were great -- and my partner had the steak frites, also fabulous. Yes, we ate a lot. Yes, it was all great.
