Dropped in mid-afternoon for lunch and perused the brunch menu. It looked appetizing. But when you're in the mood for a burger (we both were), you go with a burger. The burger came with Monterey Jack, pancetta crisp and aioli--a very enjoyable burger intended as a signature item. We started with the prosciutto and burrata--that pleased the one who suggested it and I found it fine. The FKG--a non-alcohol concoction with mint also the pleased 'the one' and I do have to say she knows! Side note: happy to see attention being paid to gluten-free issues. read more

I visited with a friend for brunch during Chicago restaurant week and it did not disappoint! There was a variety of mimosas included in the $25 meal as well as an app and meal. I enjoyed the coffee cake and turkey club with truffle fries! Everything was perfectly portioned out but it was soooo tasty and I could have had another! The service was nice and friendly, but we did feel a bit rushed to get in and out. The ambiance of the restaurant was new and nice, but had a diner feel to it. This was the first pleasant pandemic dining experience I had in 2 years. The staff was welcoming and informative. Table service was classy and removed dishes and crumbs as we went along our meal. Meh. I heard good things. I wanted to like it. I came with an open mind, but overall was a bit disappointed. Service was adequate, friendly, definitely busy. Good for them - I want them to succeed, it just wasn't the place for me. Four of us shared the burrata app and a tuna tartare. They were both solid. Nothing really to write home about, though I suppose I'm writing something about it here. I got the miso glazed salmon but subbed the ginger fried rice with a summer burrata/peaches/tomato salad. Was appreciative of that swap. I ordered some chamomile tea. $5. This is sort of where they started to lose me. Then my friend ordered a $15 glass of rose (rosay), and they charged her for a $17 one, then a little bit later someone came with what I suspect was the right kind of rose, but we were already closing out, and when he realized his mistake, he took it right back. Nothing was stand out, and $60 felt pretty steep for my order. Plus... charging $5 for hot water and a tea bag...come on. But if you're going to do that, at least tell the patrons that's what they'll be spending, or have it written down somewhere. Just a thought. Gemini is perfection in restaurant form, and my only regret is not checking this place out sooner! I'd often walked past and not quite understood the long wait times. The menu isn't anything unique, and the pricing is a bit on the higher end. But the patio is cute, so I finally caved and made a reservation. And I'm so so glad I did! A simple burger turned next level with some very good french fries (plus more to start). Add cute bistro chairs and a coke that comes straight from a mini glass bottle, and a weekend lunch here was all I could have asked for on a hot summer day. Inside and out, the decor is stunning. And stellar service really made this spot stand out. After just one visit, Gemini instantly became one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. It's like a slice of Paris in the heart of Lincoln Park. And after one look at the brunch cocktail list, I'm already dying to come back for brunch! read more

Yummmy explains it all. We went for brunch and started with the pastry flight! The cinnamon role is so good, warm, and like a hug to your insides. Get two of those because one isn't enough. I also got the frittata which was fantastic. Ambiance was good, staff was nice, they had good indoor/outdoor seating choices and wait wasn't too long. I would highly recommend! Only weird thing: they only have small gas station style type ice. So when you order an ice coffee it looks like soda . But it still tastes delicious!! Simply a beautiful restaurant and beautiful night. Ambiance for days and a very friendly staff and crew. Felt like we were right at home and were treated like we were family. Our server (Morgan) was attentive and sweet and knew the menu forward and back and took care of us the whole evening. Highlights include the best Mussels that I have ever had and an Burrata Crostini that was luscious. An Ahi Tuna Crudo that I am still gushing over (how did you make that rice!) and Steak Frites that was one of the best steaks I have eaten out. We had a reservation for indoors and were seated promptly in a booth by the open windows, so we got the best of both the indoors and the outdoors! Our server was very nice, we initially ordered individual drinks and he suggested we do the bottomless brunch given it was the equivalent of 2 and a bit regular priced drinks, and you have the benefit of being able to order any of the drinks on the list! The pastries we started with were fresh, moist and delicious and my Croque Madame was delish with the addition of the perfect amount of mornay sauce making for a delicious brunch dish! Not only was our server amazing and sweet, the hostesses made sure we had an extra glass of bubbles after waiting a little extra for our table. Bottomless deal is $30 mimosas, Bellinis, bloodies, margaritas, cocktails and beer. Such a steal, and the food was awesome! Highlight was the truffle fries. Really good food, that's not the issue. The issue is how we were treated tonight. This was the second time my partner and I visited Gemini. The first time, we had a fantastic experience. Great food, bangin' drinks, awesome server. Tonight, a Sunday at about 7:30 PM, we walked in with a reservation and was responded to by the manager(?) to acknowledge the couple behind us instead, who had already shared they weren't ready to check in. Noted. We looked around and were the only people of color dining. Also noted. Our server, Lucas, took over seven minutes to greet us. We were prepared with our full order. Although, we were enjoying the food and ambiance, we could not help but notice that for every three times Lucas would check on the couple sitting next to us, he only stopped by our table once. This happened over, and over, and over again. I'm not sure what the vibe was, but between the manager disregarding us for the couple behind us, another waiter looking us up-and-down twice, and Lucas literally waiting on the other tables in his section 3x as often as he stopped by ours, we understood that our service was because of our color. I came here a few years ago when it was Gemini Bistro and remembered the food being amazing and the service lacking. This has now become a regular place for my parents to dine outside so we stopped by on a weekday evening. They have a nice amount of tables outdoors with overhead heat lamps down the whole row of outdoor tables. Inside, they have booths up against the open windows. A very nice set up, and our service was fantastic... that along with the outdoor ambiance are what bumped this from a 3 to a 4! They have a smaller menu with a few selections within each category, which I always prefer. Unable to fully decide on what I wanted to order, I went with an evening special tomato/red pepper bisque that came with a mini grilled cheese sandwich. The soup was perfect. The mini grilled cheese was underwhelming; I realize it is just a side/garnish type piece but dunking a grilled cheese in tomato soup is the best. It was mostly just two small pieces of bread that were fit together unevenly on a small strip of melted cheese that didn't cover most of the bread... in the end, it really doesn't matter because dunking it in the soup is amazing regardless. I would totally order it again anyway. I also ordered the side of charred cauliflower, which was a bit lacking. I couldn't bring myself to finish it. The flavoring was okay but not quite there, but the cauliflower itself had no flavor without the underlying sauce and had a very rubbery texture. I'd try something else next time. Others in my party ordered a caesar salad with grilled chicken which was done to perfection. It was both beautiful and delicious. I am not wild about trout, but it was a parent favorite and did not seem to disappoint. The sancerre I had with dinner was also quite lovely. A good neighborhood spot that is worth checking out especially if it is a chilly night. She was really not on her game personality wise either. This isn't a diner & its (not high end either) But ppl will spend quite a bit on everything here, w cocktails etc. We had 2 cocktails, 2 brunch entrees, spent min $70 bf tip so.. I do expect better service, better food , better execution of everything. The food: The eggs benedict were not served with anything. Just the benedict no breakfast pots nada.The ham? I'm used to a thicker cut. This wasn't that. The hollandaise wasn't great either. You want that to be the rich and creamy this was just "ok". The chicken sand? Again, you can get this sandwich literally anywhere, it was ok too. The cocktail? Hibiscus 75.. The first on I finally got? Was actually quite good but it came way after it was ordered. Like 1 sec bf we got the food way after. The 2nd one? same cocktail. Came and was comepletely missing both the bubbles and the flower "garnish".. it didn't remotely look the same. Again, no server to be found had to flag down a well meaning mgr. Who then just poured the bubbles on top like that was the "fix" for a $15 drink. In any case, we didn't think the totaility of the experience was worth it. If you're local it's fine for a drink. read more

Went to Gemini for the first time and it is definitely worth going there for dinner. It is traditional American food and they do it right. Went with in-laws and we sat inside. It was noisy, so keep that in mind if you go with individuals who have trouble hearing in loud spaces. we went on a Friday night in the summer and the staff was kind but a little slow- we just kept waving over our server when we needed something. The food- I didn't even get a chance for photos because we all just immediately devoured our food. The Parker house rolls and a great start to the meal and came out super warm. I had the vegetarian risotto and added a piece of salmon to it- the risotto was excellent. It was cooked properly, great flavor and the salmon on top was the perfect addition. The salmon had a great seared top and wasn't overcooked. The rest of the table also enjoyed all of there dishes- the steak, salmon dish and burger. The only comment was they wished their meats were cooked more to true medium vs medium rare. Would definitely recommend and will be coming back read more

This restaurant has been down the street from me for a few years, and I have constantly talked about how I need to pop in (but I always forget!)! It's super cute both on the inside and outside patio, and always looks like the patrons are enjoying great food. I finally was able to come on over now that I'm working from home so much, and enjoy their happy hour. Both in quality and in price, it's one of the best in town. They have a 5 for $5 style, where they offer 5 drinks and 5 food items each for $5 during happy hour. I've tried a few of the different items, and have always enjoyed them! You can mix and match, but ultimately can enjoy a few drinks and appetizers without spending too much - even if you're alone. I personally recommend both the Truffle-Park Fries and the Queso Fundido (both are fantastic). You can't go wrong here! read more

We've been coming for years. We love the changes that have been made. However a recent visit with friends who had never been had a few issues. Our server was most unpleasant. Tried to rush us many times. No one was waiting so not sure why. And our guests who had the swordfish chop, on our recommendation, pointed out how bland the plate felt. For a few cents, green beans or any side would elevate the plate. Anything would have helped. For the price we realize it felt chintzy. The Brussel Sprouts were excellent, roasted to perfection and the bacon bits added tons of flavor. The Barbacoa Empanadas I was underwhelmed by... it could also be because I was expecting normal sized empanadas. They were veryyy tiny. The meat inside the empanada was good, but the dish itself was nothing special and not something I would be jumping to order again. TLDR? Get the Brussel Sprouts, skip the Empandas:).
