They also to my surprise, sell Beef Tallow and item to check out if you have not used. There are a small variety of packaged breads and a few bread rolls located near the register. The sweet young lady behind the counter was helpful. As I'd had an appointment in the area, on a somewhat warm day and she kept the meat in the fridge until I got back. I made a meatloaf with the meats and it was delicious. A place to stop by when in the area. read more

Gemelli the Restaurant which is down the block is slated to become a Whisky Down location in Fall 2026. Could Gemelli the store be packing their bags too? The store has no life inside, it's depressing. The shelves have minimal products which are overpriced. The grab and go dinners only had 2 choices available, so sad. Store made frozen pasta is available. Fresh meat is available, looked good but expensive. Salted cod was $21 a pound, why? There's a full array of salads in the front showcase which showed some promise but too expensive. No other customers in the store and it was lunch time. The quiche we bought had plenty of cheese and tasted good heated up despite the bottom crust being underbaked. I think that Uncle Giuseppe's sucked away business from Gemelli which used to be the only high end Italian market around. read more

We have always liked the meats from Gemelli but I was disappointed that after I was told the price of my purchase I gave a credit card. Upon looking at the receipt I noticed they charged a fee for using the card. When I questioned the higher amount on my receipt the manager, I believe, said the credit card company puts it on there. WRONG! It's up to the merchant to tell the credit card company and in NYS it is illegal to charge more for using a credit card unless info is posted with the credit card amount and the cash amount or there is a discount for cash. Check this out on the NYS Consumer Affairs web site and point it out to merchants who are illegally charging you this fee. Yes, the store is paying a fee for accepting credit cards but that is part of their overhead and the burden should not be placed on their customers. Just wondering if they write off that expense after collecting it from unwary customers. There is a $500 fine for each complaint. read more

Oh, LORD, I'll wind up weighing 1000 lbs if/when I move back to NY after my "lean" (ha!!) years here in Ohioooooo!! ESPECIALLY if I continue to frequent all the wonderful places like this, unheard of in my "neck of the woods," and causing me the temptation to order one (or more!) of everything they have to offer!! My sister and I walked in after a meeting in surprisingly cute, bustling downtown Babylon, planning to get a few things for an impromptu picnic in nearby Argyle Park. Even my "die hard" NY sister was surprised by the wonderful/overwhelming array of choices that greeted us as soon as we ventured in the door. We wound up sharing a DELICIOUS grilled veg hero, a couple of awesome side salads (eggplant and tomato mix and a marinated cucumber, tomato and onion mix) and a yummy (but totally overindulgent) sausage and pepper roll, which got taken home, along with a delicious fresh, crispy loaf of bread. WONDERFUL choice for a quick-ish bite, dinner when you don't feel like cooking, or for planning a FEAST, this is a great place, and (secretly...) Everything at the deli tastes exactly the same. You can get the pasta salad, the quinoa, the couscous or the orzo salads and they're all the same. Same. Same. Same chopped onion, add some chickpeas. dice some peppers, throw on olive oil. It's pathetic really. They used to be excellent - but they went significantly down hill. Their burgers are SO DAMNED GOOD! They are pricey but worth it and definitely pick up a jar of their sauce. You can even use it on other, sub-par burgers and it disguises them as being a tad bit better....but not Gemelli's. If you want the good stuff, get the real stuff. Yesterday we had the most delicious food delivered to a 1st birthday. I met with Vincent Cosentino, caterer to discuss the options for our party. He was extremely helpful & pointed me in the right direction regarding food choices...even when our attendees went from 85 to 55 it was no problem. The food was chicken fingers, delicious melt in your mouth eggplant parmigiana, tasty penne ala vodka, beef with broccoli over rice which was absolutely mouth watering & out of this world chicken francese not to forget the delicious sausage & peppers with peppers that had a bit of crunch & not mushy. This was the perfect stop on the way to the beach. We grabbed awesome sandwiches, and drinks, as well as snacks. They hit the spot while we were sitting in the blazing sun! Worst Valentine's Day ever. Spent 165 bucks for the worst food. First it never says on the advisement need to be heated. Then when I get the steak it looked like it never touched the grill, frozen pink. I put it in the oven for 15 mins and still not cooked. Then the balsamic chicken was soaked in balsamic could not even eat it drenched. Horrible night. Ended up getting pizza. Everything was uneatable. So, I just tripped into this place while strolling about the area and damn, I left like $60 lighter. They have an amazing assortment of deli type salads and foods- rice balls, chicken cutlets (cooked) and oh - did I mention the incredible salads? There are about 10 types of stuffed olives and then there are the raw meats- I was going to go broke, so I got the hell out of there - so I never went closer to the fruits or baked items. Nice little specialty grocery store in Babylon specializing in Italian foods. Pasta, bread, meats and cooked dishes as well. Small produce section but has a good selection and it's always fresh. Prices are quite high which is to be expected but the quality is good and the meats are terrific. The staff can be snooty sometimes but I only come for certain items. I've been getting meats from here for years and always delicious! A few months ago, I got ground sirloin which was grizzly. I thought okay, maybe it was an off day. A few weeks later, I went back to give them a second chance, and paid for ultra thin chicken cutlets which were like rubber! Absolutely disgusting and I'll never go back. Yummy! Just a little bit of elaboration. See, we are West Coast people. Originally our families were from here, but I admit, we've been in California so long it hardly counts, right? Right. So when we come here for a visit with family we are always looking for a good deli, a good 'regular pie', all the things we cannot get in southern california, the land of fruits and nuts. And don't forget the flakes. :D What brought me to Gemelli's were the reviews. Lots of people kept saying how it was a mix of the old fashioned italian markets mixed with a high quality deli, a bit pricey but no one seemed to mind. So since we were already doing a few things in the vicinity (heck, who am i kidding? we would have driven out of our way for this place!!) we decided to stop by and judge for ourselves. Yes, it is somewhat of an old time italian market/deli, except their fresh baked (daily) bread is simply out of this world delicious. Crusty, soft on the inside, and wonderful flavor. They all say it's the water here, but what do i know? Just know it's AWESOME. Buy a loaf to snack on. To go along with our sandwiches (we chose the Godfather and the Chelsea) we got a few varieties of olives, including some gorgonzola stuffed ones. Salt overload but so delicious we didn't care at all. Packed it all away in one of their patented Gemelli's zip up storage bags and we were off for the rest of our day's adventure which included a trip up to Montauk. By the time we got to Montauk, we were starving and feared the worst of our sandwiches, namely that they had gotten soggy during the 90 minute trip. What can i say, traffic was horrible...but we were wrong. The sandwich bread (we tried seeded and non seeded-bother were delicious) was definitely not soggy but still crispy on the outside and soft inside with all the sandwich ingredients yummy and flavorful. The sandwiches are pretty large so we only ate half (except Robby, who is gifted and ate the whole sub!) and saved the rest for later. Hey, who doesn't want a yummy midnight snack later?
