It's been a few years since I used Gem Key & Locksmith. This occasion was to adjust the self closure on the front door of our condo and install a magnetic door stopper. Bill also helped us redrill a hole to install a bigger peep hole eye piece. Excellent work as always. read more

Fast response, easy to schedule, fast and efficient work, nice people! Best Yelp experience!

Honest. Quick and efficient. Best price at time of contact. I did try to contact other locksmiths in my area- one called blessed got in contact with me but was on and off and finally flaked. I needed to reprogram my new dealer remote and cut extra keys from the dealer. They gave me good advice to buy the replacement remote from the aftermarket websites instead of the dealership for way cheaper. Then bring it to locksmith for reprogramming. Bill was the best price and he answered my msg on yelp within a timely manner. He was able to come out to meet us while we were at Ala moana Beach same day and had it done in less than 30 mins. Fast forward to this year. Our other car had a aftermarket alarm issue that made us look for alarm shops to repair it. We were told that we needed new remotes that would cost $300+. So I messaged Bill to see if he could program clifford/viper remotes (I would've bought it online myself for cheaper and bring it to him). He said he didn't do those but he was kind enough to send me instructions on how to reprogram it ourselves. We were able to save money by reprogramming our old remotes with the instructions! Such a blessing especially in this economy. Not sure why our remotes lost connection with the alarm- but it works again. read more

Very quick at responding and accommodating of my request for time changes. They were there 10 minutes early! What's perhaps most miraculous was that in about half an hour, they were able to unlock and create two working keys (the second for free!). Locksmith sounds kind of like a blacksmith or cobbler, i.e. something I'd expect at a medieval fair that's since been replaced by a factory in the developing world, but after needed an emergency key, apparently skilled trades people who are able to create locks and keys from crude metal still exist--and in my community too. I know as much about keys as I do iPhones. I feel like I just watched someone make an iPhone in their trunk in half an hour. This is truly a divine or occult gem. Also cheaper than all of the other quotes I got on here, and $100 less than going to a store so that's cool. read more

Got locked out of my battery powered safe and lost the master key. Contacted Gem key and locksmith to access my safe and was able to be serviced within the hour. The business owner is mobile and located in Honolulu and was able to meet me at my location. I appreciate how professional he was, picked the lock and did not open the safe or look inside. The price was very reasonable as well. I would highly recommend this business! read more

We had an ancient deadbolt that was working correctly until tonight. I couldn't turn the lock and was now locked in our home. Our building manager tried to assist, but the key would not turn. Gem Key & Locksmith saved us! They couldn't remove the lock, but they were able to open our door! I highly recommend their service! read more

So thankful for such great service. I had a little trip up finding him at first, as my Google maps sent me a block down the street, but we eventually got it together. He met me on Kona Street (on the Ala Moana mall property), in between Atkinson and Mahukona, on the mauka side street of the Ala Moana Hotel. He was able to supply, cut and program 2 replacement keys for my older model RAV4. I figured if one key can break in the ignition that easily it surely can and will happen again, so why not just get another one while he has everything set up*. Very grateful he gave me a nice discount for the second service. Much to my surprise, he offers lifetime guarantee for his work. Not sure if that'll ever be an issue, but the offer alone will make me choose to call him again - and recommend his service - if any other locksmith needs come up. read more

My key fob stopped working on my 2013 Ford Flex and driver side door lock doesn't work so I wasn't able to get in the car. I called for the service at almost 8:30 PM on a Monday night and they were here in 15 minutes. Not only did they get me into the car, but they made me another key and programmed it right on the spot. I know for sure that that what they are charging to replace keys are less than the dealerships cost.. They came right over, got to business, fixed my issue and got me on my way. I would highly recommend this service for the convenience, the value, and the service!!! Thank you so much Gem Key & Locksmith!! read more

I've worked with Bill four times in the last few years. One time when a family member locked our car keys in the trunk, one time when we locked ourselves out of our condo (damn these auto locking doorknobs!), and twice to install new locks for my rentals. Every single time he's been responsive and punctual. His prices are fair and the work he does is excellent! read more

Bill was very nice and communicative. He finished duplicating (cutting & programming) a new key in 35 mins. The new key is great quality too! He explained and tested the buttons & ignition key with me. He showed me the type of battery used and how to remove the cover in case I need to replace the battery in the future. I've already recommended him to friends! Definitely will be using him for future key services. read more

Billy was amazing to work with. Called him one day, met up with him the next day, and was done in 20 minutes. Put out chairs for us to sit on while he made my spare key for my car. Asked him to copy my house key, not requested in our initial conversation, but made them in a few minutes. Overall experience, awesome. Will definitely contact Billy for more services. Bill is super nice, responsive and flexible. I wanted to get a dupe key for my car but Nissan quoted me like $450 which is ridiculous. Bill was able to do the job for way less. We met a very nice man at a Macy's parking lot. They were able to see us right away, since one of our keys to our turo car had been lost, it was urgent we get a second set. They were able to replicate the key in under 20 minutes and were the most affordable price by far. They were very friendly and we would recommend them to anyone, will use again if we need another key made - thank you for the pens, as well! He gave us two pens that are truly a must have, it turns into a phone stand, cleans your phone or screen, it's a stylist and a pen...I just did not see that coming. Highly recommend. I found out from Bill where I should meet him with his mobile shop, and he quickly made me an extra key with the keyless remote for my old Toyota...and at a very reasonable price compared to what Servco quoted me. His price in July 2023 was also better than two other locksmiths I contacted in January 2020 (I put off making a copy because of COVID). I was thinking of getting another one just in case it broke, but he said there was no need since he could check/fix it if I have any problems. I was going to pay via credit card, but was able to pay with Venmo. Friendly and professional! I would rate a 10. read more

"Thanks" to the "knowledge and integrity" of Bill, the owner, I didn't hire Gem Key & Locksmith Service (GKLS). However, if the need arises, I will definitely use the services of Gem Key & Locksmith. Just before Christmas, my house door lock appeared to freeze - couldn't get in nor out. I called upon the services of a company - who shall remain nameless - that I've used over 25+ years. Cost me over $160+ for this house call and I was told I had to change my entire lock system. (I'm not disputing the charge but if the technician was a bit more knowledgeable, it would have been resolved sooner; thus less hourly charge) I had to get another opinion as to type of door lock to change it to, as it would involve my homeowners' association. I therefore contacted GKLS. We set up an appointment, Bill came on time and checked my lock situation. After testing my lock, he asked me specific questions to understand the situation I experienced during my supposed "frozen lock". He also demonstrated what could have occurred, had me test the lock in various situations and determined I did not need a "new" lock. I learned a lot from Bill. And he did not charge me anything. I am definitely calling upon the services of Gem Key & Locksmith Services for my key & locksmith needs read more

I am so happy with their polite and professional service. They came to where I was and made me a newly programmed key for my Honda Pilot. They even fixed my old key for no extra charge. They were very fast, too. I called around several key replacement services in Honolulu and all the others were way too expensive. Not only is Gem Key and Locksmith top-rate, they are the most affordable. I also appreciated that this is a family-run local business. This father-and-son team is and A-Team! Needed to have my 2 keys Re-programmed to my vehicle as I did engine computer swap. Fantastic service and response! Responded quickly to a quote on here. Most business dont respond to yelp Google etc! Very good price point when I was getting quotes from all over. The good price, great reviews, and fast responses made me choose them. Sent a message to see if today to tomorrow I could schedule something and was told in 2 hrs they'll be here! Very friendly and knowledgeable, made sure both keys worked multiple times. Even made sure I took the car for a spin before asking for payment! 100% will be using them again for any key service. Recommended to family and friends as well! read more

They also get you back in your house ! I got locked out of my own house (by sheer stupidity) and my partner was at work for a couple of hours. I called Gem's and they were there in 20 minutes. He spent 15-20 minutes reopening my door and I was back in my house. Unfortunately he recognized me (because I've called him 4-5x in the past few years lol) and he gave me some cute Korean masks, maybe because I give them so much business lol. He was wearing his mask properly the whole time too. While I hope I don't have to call them soon, at least when I do, I know where to call for my key needs! read more

I called late morning on a holiday trying to get my door-lock put back together properly. (At least one part had been assembled incorrectly by a handyman.). Whenever I need a contractor, Yelp has been a tremendous resource for me for Quick Quotes and responsive providers, and Billy of Gem Key & Locksmith was no exception. When my tenant reported to me her mailbox lock was broken I took to Yelp in search of locksmiths who were responsive, available, reasonable and with a good review history. Gem Key & Locksmith responded within minutes and quoted a very reasonable price, did not add a location fee or service charge and honored the price without any hidden or additional costs. He accommodated an appointment the next day when my tenant was available, did an excellent job, reported back to me when he was done in about 15 minutes, and responded to every text. Payment was processed through Venmo. I wish every interaction with a contractor went this smoothly and I would definitely not hesitate to call on Billy at Gem Key & Locksmith again whenever I need a locksmith. read more
