We stopped in during the week for a quick bite to eat. I was looking for lunch, but they don't serve lunch during breakfast hours. I ordered the Wiener omelette, which satisfied my taste buds for lunch. It had just the right amount of filling in the omelette to not be too overpowering and everything was cooked perfectly. 5/5 We also got a chicken sausage, ham, and cheese omelette and I was blown away by the flavor of the chicken sausage. I don't even like ham, but I ate the rest of what was left the next day! 5/5 We sat at the bar right in front of the kitchen. The service was excellent and it was great to see that the cooks take pride in their cooking.

From the outside you are unaware of how adorable this cosy "retro vibe" restaurant is. The food is absolutely delicious! I had the Papa's Poached, eggs were perfect and the cornbread was the best and very generous! The waffles and home fries were both wonderful. Staff was friendly and efficient, there was plenty of seating and parking. We can't wait to return.

Food tastes great, cute atmosphere. Very retro. Almost did not ask if they had any other types of hot sauce when I saw franks red hot on the counter. But when I did they had 4 different Tabasco sauces. I went with the habanero SOO GOOODDD They checked on me many times and food came out fast. Parking is not bad either. They also do mimosas

Staff is always very nice, food is delicious. I get eggs bacon toast and home fries every time and come every 2 weeks or so for breakfast. I have not had a bad meal yet! Everyone is smiling in this place. Served right away!

If you LOVE the original Gel's Kitchen on Main Street in West Warwick, you'll LOVE the NEW Gel's Kitchen 2 on West Shore Road in Warwick! Same great food with a warm friendly staff at both locations! The new spot has a 50's diner feel, with music from that era!! Great breakfasts and lunch! One more thing... I have health and dietary issues and they are happy to customize a meal with egg beaters, egg whites, fruit cups, etc! The BEST!!!

I was thrilled to stop by and had a wonderful experience at the bar. I have a small appetite so I chose to have the side order of seafood fried rice and it did not disappoint. It was so absolutely delicious. The shrimp were plentiful and tender. The colorful variety of vegetables were fresh and the seasonings were incredible. So good... as I said, that I had to order another "side" to take home! I did spoil myself with some sticky toffee pudding of which I brought home leftovers as well. Owners Michael and Ailine were very thoughtful and said hello! I recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly to an individual, couple or family. It's a pleasure to dine there !

Be warned, it's on the more expensive side for dining and may be a coin toss for "is it worth it" for those that enjoy a night out but also looking for value. Food was a mixed bag for us.... Starting with the smashburger was genuinely disappointing as the burger itself was dry and advertised as a "French onion" smashburger that failed to deliver any of the rich, savory flavor we expected with a name like "French onion smashburger". The hot honey Mac and cheese was very good and flavorful... The hot being more of a vinegary heat than I expected but the cream sauce was rich. Speaking of value earlier.... Smashburger was $20 and the Mac and cheese was $28. Entrees were $10-15 more it seemed but previous reviews all spoke highly of the entrees and would want to try them if we visit again. The overall service experience was disappointing for us. Not for the demeanor of the staff but everything else... We had a decent size group of 8 (5 adults and 3 kids) and was fortunate to have a dining room to help the kids burn some energy while not bothering the other diners. However, from ordering to entrees to arrive was 45 very hungry minutes. It also took 20+ mins just to get drinks. Once the food arrived, they also were short two of the kids meals which was thankfully corrected quick. We then were somewhat "gently" being asked to wrap things up by 3 staff members in 10 mins making the rounds to clear plates and any to go containers. We all understand the business in the food industry and turning tables, and trust me, after an hour from arriving to food on the table we wanted to get home for bed time. However, really sours the experience and would not advocate going here with large groups.... Between the kitchen and staff I can't say you'd have a guaranteed good time.

Our server, Jenna, visited our table soon after we were seated and brought us water. We were waiting for other members of our party, and she never made us feel rushed or pressured. While waiting, we put in drink orders and the "Lavender Fields Forever" cocktail that I ordered (Rhodium Gin, lavender syrup, fresh lemon juice, snap pea simple syrup) was so delicious, and garnished with a beautiful sprig of lavender flowers. We ordered two appetizers: Point Judith Calarmari and Corn Arepas. The calamari had too many tentacles and not enough rings for me, but the arepas were excellent. The cornmeal base was crispy and hot, and there was just the right amount of meat and toppings. For entrees, our group ordered the Chimichurri Grilled Chicken sandwich, The rigatoni with pink sauce and sausage with crispy chicken as an add on, the short ribs over mashed potatoes, the Wood-Grilled Bone-In Pork Chop, and the Rib Eye Steak. We all enjoyed our entrees. It is evident that Iron Works uses high quality ingredients and puts a great amount of care into the preparation fo their food. We split three desserts amongst the five of us: The flourless chocolate torte, the cheesecake, and the Banoffee Sundae. The flourless torte was rich and very chocolately, and the cheesecake was very good as well. I'm not a fan of bananas, so I didn;t try the Sundae, but the friend who ordered it enjoyed it. After dinner, we sat and chatted for awhile,, and we never felt rushed or pressured to leave. This was a very enjoyable evening in a great restaurant environment with delicious food.

Most egregious: the shrimp that came with the Caesar salad was POPCORN SHRIMP coated in SWEET-AND-SOUR sauce. I truly couldn't believe it. Why wouldn't the server at least warn me? To add insult to injury, my salad was overdressed and soggy. Also, the dressing was revolting. I don't mind anchovies for flavor, but the dressing tasted like an anchovy puree. I think it was maybe past its prime. I had one bite and couldn't continue. Inedible. And the fries. The parmesan truffle fries were drenched in mayonnaise??? I don't really care for mayo but I don't mind a drizzle or an aioli dipping sauce. However, the mayo to fry ratio was literally 2:1. I tried to wipe it off and it was still like a mayo-fry soup. Inedible. I took everything to go and just trashed it. I've NEVER done that before. This is a delayed review (meal was a few months ago) and I'm still rattled by how bad it was.

The only thing is we have a band coming in at 6 and all the tables are reserved do you think you'll be able to eat in that time"? I feel as if this should have been communicated prior to us being seated. My friends and I haven't seen each other in quite some time and I myself fought 45 minutes of traffic to get there. Needless to say 50 minutes was not going to be enough time to look over the menu, order, cook the food, eat and catch up. We had to leave :( Sarah does get an A plus for her customer service though! They do have parking available which is nice since there area mostly only have street parking. Inside is pretty large and they have lots of tables and counter. It was not too busy so we were sat down right away. They did have some easter specials but i ended up getting Fried chicken sandwich and deviled eggs. Deviled egg came out quickly. It was ok looked kind of sad as seen on the picture. Rest of the food took a while for it to come out which was weird because it wasn't that busy. Maybe short staffed. Finally the food arrived. Fried chicken sandwich was honestly not that great. Looked like it was fried too long, darkened. The cut did not have a lot of meat and it was very dry. The sauce and brioche bun helped it to balance it a bit. Fries were good. Overall the food was ok at best. We decided to try their dessert. We got the easter special egg cheese cake and carrot cake. The desert was excellent. Egg cheese cake had egg and nest looking chocolate frosting which made it look in theme for easter. It had nice creamy cheese flavor with chocolate frosting and good crust at the bottom. Carrot cake was moist and delicious. Service was ok. We had a new server that seemed like was not fully trained yet with knowledge about their menu. Wait was long for the main meal. I can see that she was trying though. Overall the place was ok. Food quality seemed to be inconsistent with the menus. If anything i would come back for the desert if they have the cheese cake around again.

I was immediately impressed with the interior of this restaurant, it felt upscale and designed so tastefully, loved the atmosphere! Our serve was also really sweet, bubbly, and friendly too. This made our dining experience very pleasant. I order the Churro Iced Café Exprés for a drink, and it was so impressive looking. I loved that the churro was warm and the drink itself was really tasty. However, I think there was way too much whipped cream and not enough of the actual drink. For my main dish, I chose the Barbacoa Benedict - a super popular choice according to the waitress, and for good reason! The Benedict really was delicious, the meat was tender, the flavors popped, and I love a good bolo roll as a base. But, the homefries were SO salty. They were cooked nicely, but I couldn't enjoy them for more than a few bites. Overall, I really enjoyed Sombra as a brunch spot and would certainly visit again. Priced a little highly in my opinion- I got the meat Omelette. It was tasty, it had a fair bit of carne asada in it and it was well seasoned. It also had some bacon and chorizo in there if memory serves me. I thought the portion could have been a little bit better for $23, or better yet, just make it $18-19. There's no reason an Omelette should come with a $23 price tag. I was actually satisfied with the portion given the mound of home fries. Which by the way were very tasty albeit, over salted. The braised beef Benedict that my wife got was very good, my only critique on it would be to toast the bolo a bit more because the whole thing was one texture. It missed the crunch you get with an English muffin as the base. I also thought the beef could have been more seasoned. One other order at the table included the breakfast tacos. You get 4 tacos piled with food. Actually looked like you got more than the Omelette. Noted for next time. I didn't order this, but tried it at the table- the spiked horchata drink was tasty. A little heavy on the whipped cream but it was a good drink! We were surprisingly the only ones in there besides one other table. Doesn't seem like brunch has caught on here? Nonetheless, I think you should give it a try, we were well taken care of and there wasn't anything we didn't like.

It was very cramped. I sat in the inside chair, in order for me to get out, my husband had to get up and move his chair totally out and around the end of the table for me to get out. The table on the other side had the chairs right up against the chairs behind it. Whatever. We got settled and looked at the menu. First item on the app menu was a bread basket. 4 rolls of bread for $8. Most places just bring bread. Ok, we aren't getting bread. Ordered drinks. I got an apple cinnamon mule. It was very tasty, but 2 sips and the drink was gone. The cup was filled to the top with ice once the drink was gone. Ordered the sirloin sandwich. Server said it's her favorite thing on the menu. I ordered the horseradish on the side because too much is overwhelming. It came smothered in horseradish. The person who brought it food placed it and was gone, so I didn't have a chance to say anything. I managed to take the steak out and wipe off the horseradish... there was soooo much. I couldn't eat the bread. By the time the server came over to ask how everything was, the rest of my party was almost done eating. I mentioned that the horseradish was supposed to be on the side and she said "oh no! It's ok though right?" I said I guess it will have to be, as she can see most of my dinner was untouched and I was eating my wiped off steak with a knife and fork. She didn't say anything else and left. No manager came by. She never came back other than to drop the check. After we ate my husband told me his ahi tuna bowl had a ton of soy sauce in the bottom and the rice was swimming in it, so he didn't finish that. We won't be returning. I have written many yelp reviews and almost all our positive. If I don't like a restaurant, I usually just don't review it. But after reading other negative reviews for this restaurant, I figured I should warn people. Had I read the reviews first, I probably wouldn't have gone. Lesson learned.
