James from GDX installed the opener we got from Home Depot. He was great - right on time, got the job done quickly. He didn't push any extra services or costs - tightened the door springs for free and said they would last a while so no need to replace. Felt like a bargain for $150 installation fee on top of the cost of the opener. The quote we got from Costco would have been 3x the price and their installer would have charged $250 just for adjusting the springs on top of the installation price. read more

I used GDX to replace two garage doors. They did a site pre check about 5 weeks prior to install and I explained that the current garage doors need to be replaced and all other items such as springs, engines and everything to make them operational. I explained to them that I need to put my home on the market and I scheduled the install after the paint job. They gave me a 3k price. That was a bit more then I had Home Depot charge me and they offered glass doors too but the install timeline didn't meet with what I needed so I went with GDX with no windows plain simple doors. On install day the installers come and tell me Do you need engines for both doors? I'm like of course. They tell me its additional $380 per door plus tax. I'm like when the initial on site inspection came from your company I told them I needed everything and they tell me well we have the doors and springs and all items in work order but No engines. You can operate the doors with opening them by hand engines are not required. I'm like seriously? I tried to call and text the office person who I scheduled everything with and no response. Installers say if you don't like it we can leave and you can find another company. I'm like I scheduled this over a month ago clearly you know my timeline I can't reschedule. So I ended up paying $4,100 for the doors. They clearly knew I can't reschedule so they took advantage fo the situation. After install I tried to reach the office to discuss this and no response what so ever. Very unprofessional company and scammers. read more

GDX was recommended by my next door neighbor...they installed the whole thing wrong..one day I heard a loud crash...bracket came loose fell on my car...I called them they denied ever doing the work. Holy Heck, Batman! James was in & out in less than 45 minutes, took the old broken opener with him, installed the new Genie screw drive opener that I purchased from Home Depot, reviewed vacation mode, how to use the openers, install/replace light bulbs and open the door when there is no electricity. He also programmed an older Craftsman opener to work with our other garage door in like 2 minutes. Am impressed with the whole process - ordering, shipped on time / as scheduled (which hasn't been my experience with FedEx before), easy to arrange an install date and they called before arrival! I wish people would rate HomeDepot poorly for any misses as I had an outstanding experience with GDX, absolutely earning 5 stars. I ordered an opener through Home Depot and GDX was right on time for the install but confirmed my fear, it was an impossible configuration to work with. They explained some of the more common options/solutions and were able to walk me through the entire process. Despite a delay, they were back and right on time and I got a great new door along with the opener installed PERFECTLY and incredibly quickly! I purchased an opener and installation through Home Depot and GDX was the installer. They reached out within a couple of days of the order being placed. On the first attempt at the install the installer let us know that the garage door was missing a reinforcement strut on the top of the door. This is excluded by Home Depot. They offered to install it for $140. The installer (James) mentioned this scope gap happens often with garages that are installed without a garage door opener originally and by contractors looking to install the cheapest way possible, but he did say I could buy it online for less, so it was nice that the installer wasn't trying to upsell me and was offering honest advice. I would never hire this company, not to tie my shoes, or install anything, ever. These are the type of "contractors" that give contractors a bad name. Should something go awry with install, forget about a return call. They sent a team after we purchased a Home Depot opener, a Chamberlain. They began work, so we went upstairs. In the process of their installation, they BROKE the garage door opener (jammed the chain irrevocably), and left saying we had a "bad motor". We could hear the motor trying to go, and called their office. The recorded message (constantly on, they don't answer ever) said call manufacturer, so we did. After much trouble shooting, we figured out how they had jammed the chain into the pulley, forever broken and not fixable. The motor was grinding away but could not move the garage door opener at all. When we hired a good company after purchasing another unit, we were told they also used terrible brackets, and mostly parts that were already there so he did things correctly. Everything went smoothly and was done right the 2nd go round. GDX told us to go away and never communicate with them again. GDX wanted us to deal with the manufacturer, somehow get the opener down ourselves, take it apart to find the circuit board and have Chamberlain replace just that part after photographing it. We are seniors, there is no way we could have done any of that. When younger we installed several garage door openers, now we wanted someone else to do it! Please, if you are thinking of hiring these people, think again. I wish I could have given them minus a million stars but there isn't an option for that. I also think the 5 star ratings are all phony (or just lucky patrons?) here, but that may be just me looking through my own experience's lens. read more

They took a job with Handy to install my garage door opener purchased from Lowes on Saturday. I got a text saying they'd install the next Tuesday, I was not able to get that day off work, so I called and she changed to Friday. Then they cancelled the night before after I'd already taken a day of vacation and when I called them about it, I reminded her that we'd spoken earlier in the week and she lied and said that we hadn't spoken and they'd just gotten the order. our garage sensors work/worked fine on our old garage rails. after installing new garage rails/doors, the sensors slightly slide down after every open/close causing a closing error. here is how our issue was resolved: me: after the install, my sensors seem to move a bit causing an error. gdx: we install the sensors according to the manufacturer. me: the sensors worked fine on our old rails. gdx: pay $125 and we can secure those sensors. me: why werent they secured upon relocation? gdx: we install the sensors according to the manufacturer. me: would you consider informing customers of this issue/service and adding a smaller additonal cost since youre on already on site? gdx: we install the sensors according to the manufacturer. *customer service could get up to speed with garage knowledge. read more

Wow! James just installed my garage door opener and I am so glad I had a professional do it instead of on my own. He was on time, and it took less than 30 minutes. But more importantly he went over all the features, offered to put in bulbs and pointed out some things I wouldn't have thought of (down to the meaning behind the different colored lights on the sensors). SO, SO, MAD. Several weeks ago my garage door opener stoped working so I went to Lowe's and purchased a new one because the old one was 23yrs old and needed to be replaced. They scheduled an appointment for GDX Garage Door Service of Ravensdale, WA to come install it, this was arranged through the store and Handy. The installer arrived and I pointed to where the garage opener was still in the box unopened, he didn't even look at it but started telling me "how it wasn't going to work on my door due to the new technology with the new openers and how it wouldn't last very long". He then went into selling me a new garage door and explaining the two different types "instalated and uninstalated" and the cost. He did also tell me that they was nothing wrong with my current garage door. He told me that I could buy a part for my current opener and replace it and I did, it was $20 and my friends came over and helped me replaced it. I still thought well they have got to be a garage door opener for my garage so I called Lowes and spoke to one of their employees and he said he could understand why the installer didn't install it because the one I had should have worked(he asked me to take pictures of my garage and send o him). He said he would contact the installers and find out what the problem was and it took a week for me to get any information on what the istaller said. "They said that a part was missing on the new garage door opener that they never opened the box or went near to and that I said I wanted a refund". None of what they said is true. I returned the garage door opener to Lowes and the box was never opened. I don't think they thought that I would have gone as far as I did with my investigation and now I am wondering how many other customer have gone through this and fell for replacing a garage door that did not need replacing. The message is and I have learned many of them is never to rush and panick and make a decision tat's going to cost you unnecessarily. My reason for posting this is because GDX lied to Handy and Lowes as to why the opener wasn't installed. read more

Home Depot Snohomish made the whole thing unbelievably frustrating and time consuming (seriously, it was like a Groundhog Day loop of incompetence), but this is a 5-star review for Deanna (not sure of spelling) at GDX, who went above and beyond to get Home Depot Snoho straightened out and make our project happen. No one at Home Depot Snoho knew how to place the order, or cared to find out, so after a million calls, zero replies to voicemails, and two returned incorrect orders, I had given up and was going to DIY it, which I'm sure would have been a disaster. But Deanna got involved and basically trained the HD people how to do their job, and now, a few days later, we have two working garage door openers! I originally saw GDX on Angie's list. I did my research and saw they had online specials thru the valpak blue mailer coupons. I called a couple of the garage door repair company's and GDX was my very favorite when talking to the company. (You know the vibe I'm talking about.) Most of the other companies wouldn't even come out and look at my garage without trying to upgrade my whole system. They said No, while GDX said Yes. Brian is the one who came out to look at what system I had and the kind of door he was going to have to work with. GDX was willing to work with me and gave me a good deal without trying to charge me for a new door and garage system all together ( like the other companies ) I have now since used them multiple times, for different things and you better believe that I will continue to use them again. Our 18 yr old chamberlain opener finally bit it and snapped the shaft. Called a few garage door co's in olympia, and they all wanted about $700 to come out and replace it. Our house was being listed for sale in the next week, so needed it done quick and i was slammed and couldn't put one in myself, so went to HD and bought one with their install program for an extra $125. Worth it to me - c.s. gal told me they would be in touch within 2 weeks, so i figured i'd give them 4 or 5 days and then i could get to it-didn't need to as they called me in 2 days! set up an apt for 2 days later. Bryson was my installer-called when he was 20 min away. Had the new one put in super quick and it was awesome. (will never go chain drive again!). Asked him about my other garage door that was t-boned by my 2 sons on their bikes about 10 yrs ago-it was buckled and was finally buckling. Bryson said he could prolong its life by a few years by putting a strut on there-was totally honest and said it would just be a patch job for a few years which was cool-he didn't try and sell me a new garage door. So i called GDX, they ordered the part, and Bryson came back today about a week later and installed it. I totally would not even think about using another company. They were prompt, their communication was amazing, and their work was top notch. SUPER reasonable on their prices. I never write reviews, but during this ridiculous post co 19 thing, it seems NO ONE wants to work or do a good job-very pleased with GDX and Bryson!!! read more

I blame HomeDepot for all the mess they created at first they ordered the wrong garage door opener and then said they had to re-order it that took another two weeks I've been waiting over a month and a half for them to install it big mistake by buying it at Home Depot, I could've had it up myself I just elected to have them do it this time another big mistake by me. As another reviewer mentioned, GDX is the company that HomeDepot subs garage door opener installation to. The first issue I had was HD told me I would get a call from GDX within 48 hours. After a week I called HD to follow up considering no one ever called us. Another day or so passed and we got a call. GDX was of course booked a week out, so it ultimately took over 2 weeks to get them out there. They give you a 3 hour window of them showing up so expect to take the entire day off of work. By the time I got home I noticed the installer hadn't programmed our keypad. We have a detached garage with no man-door so we must use a keypad to get the door open. Luckily he had left the clickers with my wife. The installer also neglected to haul away the old garage door openers like he was paid to do. For the next several days I am calling HD complaining that A) the keypad wasn't programmed and we are forced to carry around clickers with us and B) the old openers were never hauled away. Eventually, after several days and many hours dealing with HD and GDX, they had agreed to take care of the mess... IN NINE DAYS!.... In my line of work, if we mess something up we immediately take care of it. GDX is unreliable, lacks customer service, doesn't finish a job, and their customer service reps are less than intelligent. Had I known this would be such a cluster I would have hired another outfit..... In the end I programmed the keypad myself and disposed of the old garage door openers myself. Hire this company and you pay 100% of the price and get 80% of the work..... By the way, GDX told me they only have TWO installers. GDX lists the entire Puget Sound as their service area, yet they have just two installers.... Crap service, crap company, use some one else. read more

GO WITH ANOTHER COMPANY. We were scheduled for an installation and were told our garage needed to be cleared out to install. Matt, the installer told us if we cleared the spaces previously explained, he would be back the same day at 3pm. We took the rest of the day off of work, and rescheduled important doctor appointments because Matt stated he could come back snd get it done. He never showed. We found out he would not be returning by the call from their dispatcher asking when we could reinstall. We rescheduled and recieved a call that Matt was 15 minutes out, and again were blown off. Matt assumed from afar that our garage was not cleared, and took off without informing us, as we were waiting. Due to rain, we were waiting to move our couch and tools out. An hour after Matt was supposed to show, Home Depot called us to reschedule. This is the third time we had taken our personal leave from work to be home for this. The dispatcher was rude, cynical and unsympathetic to the major inconveniences they have caused. I am still waiting for installation and for a call back from a manager. I would definitely not use this company, and will be advocating to all fellow military to use a company that values their professionalism and customer service. They do not know what professional courtesies are, and no regard for the time they waste of others. read more

Ryan showed up 20 minutes into the window, got the thing installed, explained it all to me...all while simultaneously answering non-stop questions from my inquisitive (and enthralled) 4 year old son.
