Came here on the recommendation of hotel staff. We started off waiting in the bar for a table. The bar service was fine and I wasn't even halfway through my beer when the table was ready. I had the Carne Adovado, holy crap was it good, and my husband had the fish tacos on special which he said were very good but not to die for. My dish was just spicy enough to get my attention but never crossed the line into I-can't-eat-this territory, and I don't eat a lot of really hot food. The chef definitely handles the chile heat with a deft hand. Table service was very good in spite of things being really busy and we thought things were fairly priced given the quality of the food and service. We will definitely go back to Gazpacho on our next trip to Durango. read more

They don't make their own rellenos?!!!! I'm sorry but a Mexican restaurant's relleno is the quintessential guide to how good and authentic they are. The food is not terrible, but it is not at all exciting either. It is simply average at best. read more

Food was okay. My husband didn't think it was that great for $12 per plate (3 people ordered those plates). I was not very hungry so I ordered a bowl of the tortilla soup. It was so salty, it was inedible. That was after I moved all the tortillas off the top of the bowl. This was perhaps only the 3rd time in my life I had to return something. I even had my husband taste it and he agreed. It was not a big deal, and I was very nice about it. They took away the soup and I ordered a chicken taco instead and it was good. But they comped the $3 taco instead of the $7.50 soup. I will not be back because of that, and because food was so-so. After the incident, server Savannah pretty much steered clear of us probably because she thought we'd not tip her well. I still gave her 20%. read more

Good burger. All vegan. Yum. Service was ok. Not great. I sat at the bar. Asked for more water and was left waiting. It was a little pricy since all i wanted was the burger and they still would have charged me full price without the fries. So what can you do? Also all other places were closed so I didn't have much choices for vegan restaurants. I still tipped because the food came out hot and quickly and looked good. The bun was a little greasy. The Patty itself wasn't all that impressive but their smoked green chili was sooo tasty and a little spicy. Muy delicioso. I'd come back just for the chili. read more

This place was once great but now it is without a doubt the worst Mexican food in Durango. I believe it was about 8 years ago that a new owner took over and got greedy. The food portions dropped considerably, the prices raised considerably and all the food is now bland. The real kicker was when they started charging for chips and salsa. Every restraunt in Durango that started that crap has gone out of business starting with Francisco's. You can see its corpse right downtown. Stay away! read more

Good service, they could use an extra person or two as wait staff seemed stressed. Margaritas were ok, improved by asking to not add soda. Carne asada tacos were delicious, perfect tortillas. Grande burrito was huge and good.Guac was very good. Rice not so good, beans were bland and very disappointing. I will seek another place next time. read more

By far the best Mexican/New Mexican restaurant in Durango! The staff, while not "clingy attentive", provides great service. But the best part is the food. Both the red and green chile are delicious, and if you're having a hard time deciding, do as I do and order 1/2 and 1/2. The stuffed sopapilla is my personal favorite, though everything else is amazing too. As for reviews mentioning the (very nominal) charge for chips and salsa, I don't blame this restaurant! So many times I see these items brought to the table automatically in other establishments, only to not be consumed. I will say, at the conclusion of the meal here, there are FREE sopapillas with honey--normally a charge at any other restaurant. For the price you pay and the food you receive, you CAN NOT go wrong at Gazpacho! read more

Food is good. Service and price takes away points. The staff are just trying to process transactions- just get the people out of here. No personality, don't really want to be there, send message of "I have to do this to make money," create no atmosphere. I ordered the Fajitas for $25. I had enough meat for one tortilla. Maybe 3 oz of chicken max. they gave me 2 cups of vegetables. Not worth the value. The other plate we ordered came out without any sauces. We had to ask for them. Ran out of drinks and water. Had to ask for more. When we left, there were three people in staff on the second floor waiter area doing things on their phones. read more

We are from Tucson and know about really good Mexican cooking. This place does not even begin to compete. First off, charging 3$ for chips and salsa? We ordered the special house margarita and it was OK. Not great. We were hungry from a long day on the road so we split the beef fajitas. It was more than we could eat but the beef was flavorless, the pinto beans likewise. Lots of peppers but no onions to be found. The tortillas were ordinary store bought. The posole was terrible. The meal should have been terrific but it so lacked any seasoning. Our waitress was excellent, but the individual who brought our food just threw it down on the table and walked off. Left us with only one plate for fajitas for two. Couldn't even acknowledge our thank you for bringing our food. read more

I love this place. Durango is a great place for food and this one is right up at the top of the list (and it's cheap too!) I love me some of them enchiladas with the egg on top and then the best part is the sopapillas that just keep coming to the table. I'm in heaven. read more

Seated quickly. Asked for a Michelada and they said they didn't have the right glassware for it. Guacamole was way to spicy. Refried beans were dry. Rice tasted like it had tomato paste in it. We used to eat 3 or 4 Times a month here but over the last few years their prices have risen drastically and the portions of their plates have went down in quality and quantity. Not only that but they started charging for chips and salsa too. While the food is still decent the value of it for what they charge is not really worth in my opinion. We have frequented this place many times over the last 15 years as we are local. The food is usually good, and still is...HOWEVER the prices have sky-rocketed. $12.50 for a two tiny chili rellenos......or a burrito..... Mind you the plate sizes have not changed. We should have walked out when we saw the prices, can't believe I paid so much, it didnt really hit me until the bill came and I realized I could have spent the same amount and got a really great meal somewhere else..... read more

I love Mexican food and while in Durango I tried to find the best restaurant. I found the best Mexican food I've eaten in 30 + years at Gazpachos. I had a special of shrimp tacos and the texture and taste were heavenly. Info. I read on Gazpachos warned that the food is hot but I did not encounter excessively hot food - the salsa had a nice red chili nip to it but did not light up your palate. The gratis sopapillas were excellent. I only wish I had a Gazpachos nearby that I could go to every week ! read more

I've been here for 16 years and heard other locals either gush about or hate this place. I think it's mediocre. Happy hour us great, margs are good but food is just boring. I moved to Aztec from Durango, I and my Fiancée decided to have a late lunch in Durango. We decided to have Mexican food, so we went to Gazpachos where I in the past received very good food. Upon arriving around 2pm on January 16th, we walk-in and was seated. We waited for 15 minutes as the staff walk right past us ignoring us. Not once did the any of the staff approach our table and take our order. I had to ask with a stern voice to the floor supervisor, could someone take our order. One of the waiters that walk past our table several times finely came to our table and took our order. I ask him (Chris); why the long wait? And he stated; there was some confusion as to who was going to wait our table. I'm thinking that is such a lie! They were not busy at all that day. And the food was no better than Taco Bell!! I made a very bad choice to Gazpachos for food. I and my fiancée will never return to that establishment. read more
