Tried this diner for the first time today for lunch. My wife had a Reuben Panini, which was delicious and huge. She commented that the corned beef was tender so it didn't get pulled out of the roll when you were eating it. I had a salad with blue cheese dressing and the hamburger steak with brown gravy and onions from the senior menu along with some onion rings, which were an additional $1.99 charge. I ordered the hamburger steak, medium rare, and it did not come that way. It came medium/well, but it was so tasty that I didn't mind. My blue cheese salad was excellent also. Our server, Noah was very attentive and the service was excellent. The restaurant has an incredibly varied menu and everything on the menu is served all day long. The restaurant is clean and neat as are the restrooms. There are two display cases with a delicious display of desserts as you enter the diner. Lunch with soft drinks for two was $29 plus a 20% tip that we left. We definitely will be dining here again.

So, our 3rd time here and we still can't decide if we like it or not but ill explain. Place is normally clean, wasn't today, its very spacious, we'll lit and the menu has all your favorites. The first 2 visits were for breakfast which were mediocre. Eggs are cooked to death potatoes are ok, toast was cold, moving on, today I ordered a "Texas Hot" and a Rueben. A Texas Hot is supposed to be Hot Dog that originated in North Western New York which comes with raw onion, mustard and a Chilli sauce, this one doesn't come close, its just a Chili Dog, it has the right ingredients however the sauce is a very sweet Chilli and the bun was hard as a rock. Hard pass! The Rueben was good, all the right amount of ingredients but the bread was soggy. Being a retired resteraunt owner, there is a trick to perfect toasted rye bread. The fries were very good, nice crunch. Back to cleanliness, the table was dirty, floor was filthy and there were Gnats buzzing around our table. In the end, we will come back again, maybe we got them on Another bad day.

What quick service! Our very friendly and helpful waitress had our four orders back to us before one could use the restroom. And what a large selection, from bar food to a sit down dinner, the menu while vast did not offer much in the way of a kids menu. However, breakfast is served all day. The food was really good, the service was excellent, and the cakes and pies...oh my what a delight! So many to choose from and then you can take a huge (and I mean the size of your head!) strudels home to feed your entire family for breakfast. Definitely kid friendly (they can find something on the adult menu, it's ok), clean, and very welcoming. Finally, price. I paid about $75 for a family of four (3 adults and a child). That is about what I paid for McDonald in the way down here and $25 less than the hotel restaurant for more and better food (plus deserts). I would recommend Gateway Family Diner for anyone wanting good, right priced, quality food, in a family friendly setting.

Gettysburger is a place that does burgers right !!!…read more We are on our way back home from Chambersburg and decided to stop in here and grab a burger and some of the sidewinder fries. We always are cheerfully greeted, and we are seated immediately because it was right after lunch and right before the dinner rush and we sat in the bar area on a high top and it worked out perfectly. Our server was outstanding. She came over got our drink order and if we wanted any appetizers which we did not get this time, but let me just say their appetizers are to kill for they are outstanding. As you can see in the photos, the burgers are done right they are nice and juicy and the toppings are just right in the buns are so fresh. It's crazy. So if you're in the Gettysburg Square area, we highly and I mean highly recommend stopping in here for either a burger or one of their other options which are all really good food well prepare prepared.

I asked for my burger medium well and it came out rare but honestly it tasted amazing! The chili was warm and perfect for a chilly day. Our server seemed super busy but did his best to check in on my party and even tried to have a conversation with us when time allowed. I forgot to take a picture but their brownie sundae was so good it was gone in a minute. Definitely check this place out if you're looking for a delicious juicy burger!

Coming from Rhode Island with hot weiners I have high expectations for what they call the 'Texas dog' and I can say that they didn't even come close. A dog with meat sauce, mustard and onions...The bread was a majority of the dog with a mountain of yellow onions that left so much of a bite I couldn't take another. The dogs were really big and seemed to be cut in half but the casing was tough and the dogs were not of quality. The stars given were simply to account for the memorabilia and history of the establishment which was cool to see. Overall, the dogs made us sick and left us disappointed but the history is worth the trip? Maybe just don't get the hotdog.

I had a ham and cheese with rye toast and my dad ordered a western omelette, but swapped the ham out for sausage and asked for two sides of scrapple and home fries. The omelettes were stuffed. I've never seen so much sausage in an omelette as I did that morning. The rye toast was only very lightly toasted.. I prefer a little crisper. My dad's home fries were seasoned well and the scrapple was thin and crispy. He loved it. The inside of the restaurant is small and homey with all of the expected diner touches (signs, and barstools, etc.). There are two unisex bathrooms and the one I used was a little dirty. If we're looking for diner food in the area, I think we would definitely stop in again for a quick bite.

My wife and I both had the shrimp baskets and two soft drinks for lunch. The shrimp baskets were $17 each and the soft drinks $3 each. With tax and tips the total bill came to $50. The shrimp were obviously pre-battered and frozen but they were pretty tasty. The french fries had some kind of a nice crispy coating and were excellent. The coleslaw was pretty tired. The service was cordial and quick. The decor is as I remembered very nice. There is free parking behind this restaurant, but not many people know it is there. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because I think that the cost of the luncheon was a little more than it should've been for what we received. Had the shrimp been coated with a batter and fried from scratch (instead of being taken out of a frozen bag) I might've been able to award five stars. But... All in all this restaurant continues to hold its "very good to excellent" reputation for food and service over many years. I would die there again and I would recommend it with no reservations.

There was a huge assortment of foods many of which you can see in my accompanying photos. What you cannot ascertain, however, is how delicious everything was! The prime rib was outstanding as was everything else. The did serve "Mom-Osas" and other spiritus libations. The deserts were wonderful as well, albeit perhaps a bit too sweet for this prediabetic. He said that "You are transported back in time the moment you step into the place." He was not wrong. Though it was late evening, there were still tons of people waiting to get in. We were starving but figured the wait must mean the food was worth it and...it was! We chose first available and were seated at the bar in the corner. It was nice because we didn't wait long to be served and we had I nice view of the entire restaurant. A very rustic place that looked as I would imagine it did in 1863. My friend ordered a Caesar salad, fillet, and a baked potato. The salad came with a freshly baked yeast dinner roll. Fillet was cooked to perfection. I ordered the King's Soup which was French onion soup except with large chunks of tender beef in it. My entree was the Spring House Salad which was mixed greens, apples, walnuts, chipped smoked turkey, with herb dressing and it was divine. The sleeper of the meal was the datenut bread with cream cheese that came with my salad. A dark brown molasses bread with dried fruit and nuts. It was so chocked full of nuts and fruit while the dough was the most moist bread I've ever had. I couldn't eat both pieces after the meal so took it in a to go container.
