(Come on, who really wants to go through the system of going to Best Buy or the big name stores to send off your computer/laptop to another part of the country to wait a long time for it to be fixed). At Gatecom you can just bring your computer, get your estimate on the spot and pick it up when it's done. They're also very reachable by phone to check up on the status--the pros of going to a smaller locally owned store. They're reasonably priced. Not super cheap....but come on, it's a computer store not a discount clothes store or something. I'm sure though that it's more fairly priced than the bigger named stores. Our teen aged daughter recently woke up one morning to find her lap top screen had mysteriously been cracked. Assuring us it had nothing to do with the fact she tends to fall asleep well after midnight with the laptop precariously placed on top of the comforter, we did a Yelp/Google search to find a local repair shop that would give us a decent repair/replacement estimate. It was because of the excellent Yelp reviews for GatecomUSA we decided to make it our first stop in estimate shopping. It turned out to be the last stop as well. An excellent, fully knowledgeable staff, fluent in English, Spanish and Korean, friendly and just very cool. The estimate was totally in line with what the google research said it should most likely be and was probably even a couple of dollars cheaper. The turnaround was less than one day as the pretty large store had the exact screen in stock (older model HP-so we were pleasantly surprised) and the workmanship was perfect. The previous reviews are right on target and we're extremely grateful we found this place. I cannot recommend GatecomUSA highly enough and even encourage people searching from out of the neighborhood to consider giving them your business if you don't trust/know your local computer repair place. I have brought my computers to be serviced at Gatecom for years. They are truly the best. The first computer had an issue with the fan. The second one included a software issue that prevented the computer from functioning properly. In both cases, they were very upfront with me about potential reasons for the issues, approaches that they may take to solve the issue, and costs. Although I was not in any hurry they fixed the computers in less than two business days (also provided in estimate). When picking up the computers they went through everything with me and I was thoroughly impressed. They are very affordable and do terrific work. They replaced my screen twice and sold me a phone cover both times to cover the fact that they replaced the screen incorrectly , two times in less than 3 months , even charged me to fix the previous mistake . My screen is now lifting again no drops , no damage just a screen not put in correctly !! Pissed will never go back to this guy ! My computer would not power up after being fine the day before. I have built and troubleshooted all of my computers for the past 10+ years, so it is rare that I would need a shop like this. I have fixed a similar problem before myself, but it usually requires some time and another PC with interchangeable parts to swap hardware with to see what's causing the problem. I didn't want to deal with the hassle, so I brought it here. They fixed it without needing any new parts and turn around time was less than 24 hours. The price was fair too, given the fact that it would've probably taken me 1-2 hours to figure out the problem. These guys aren't comparable to your nerd wannabe scammers at the Jiffy Lube of the computer world, Geek Squad. They actually know what they're doing and are honest. The tech even wrapped my tower in a garbage bag(it was raining) and asked if I needed help bringing to my car. Need a repair and don't know much about computers? These guys will lie through their teeth to get ANY amount of money from you. This guy takes my computer for 1 hour, i call him and ask him if he got to take a look at it yet, he tells me not yet. I tell him to not look at it and I'll come pick it up. When I get there he says he's going to charge me anyway. I ask why, and all of a sudden he says "oh actually we did get it started up and got "into the BIOS and found that it was overvoltaging", "oh and usually motherboards have heatsinks on the southbridge, but yours does not have one, maybe you broke it when you removed it from your case". WRONG AND WRONG on both counts (he made false statements), in the end I found my motherboard was fine and it was actually my RAM that had failed. Replaced the RAM and it is working fine. Will be charging him back with the credit card company. Glad I did not pay cash. read more
