We called Ron for an estimate on our gate. He had to put the control board back in and diagnose the opener for insurance purposes. He submitted the estimate to us and his bill for a $110 service call. The next day, Insurance asked for a picture of the control board ... but when I opened the box to take a picture, there was no control board. When called, Ron first texted back that he left the control board in the box. It was not there. After checking security camera footage of him removing the board, we saw that he did not replace the board. When we confronted him, he said he handed the control board to my disabled husband on the patio. We have security cameras on the patios and he did not leave the control board with us. All we are left with is the $110 bill and no way to prove to our insurance company that the control board is bad so they can replace it. We are very disappointed and not yet sure whether to file charges or seek legal advice. read more

Came out and gave me a quote to replace a damaged arm on my electronic gate. Unfortunately he added approximately $1400 to the price of the arm! I checked online for pricing from the company that made the original arm. Ron's pricing was $1400 more than the manufacturer quoted! I was able to have the repair done for less than $500. Excellent work! By far, the most knowledgeable person I've encountered with regards to gates. We moved into a new home complete with a gate across the driveway. We did not receive any instructions on how to operate the gate by phone from the house. I had to run down the driveway to let guests and repairman into the property. There have been a few other poor reviews with the same theme. My gate was not working and Ron the owner came by to assess what was wrong. He was there briefly while I was gone and indicated that I needed a new motor and control panel which were both shot and needed to be replaced and would cost approx $1200. I was suspicious and decided to call the manufacturer for the name of an authorized repair person. They came out and looked at the situation and had the unit working in 5 minutes. 3 months later and the old motor and old control panel are still working just great. read more

Mr. Ron Shiring, in the past two months has come to my gate several times in person and made many (recorded) telephone calls, harassing and threatening my family. He has caused us an inordinate amount of stress with his unethical business practices. He was called out to check the lock pad on our gate. He never said there was a cost to check it, verbally or written. We never signed a contract. My husband has been a successful small business owner for 30 years and never charges for a bid. If there is work to be done it is discussed verbally and with a signed contract. Ron spent about ten minutes looking at the pad and giving us a quote to replace it. We said we would let him know but, as his price was twice what we ended up going with, we went another way. We chose not to have him do the work, which was obviously our reasonable and legal choice. At that point he must have driven by and saw that we replaced our unit through another source. He then decided he was going to charge us $110.00 for giving us the quote. We refused to pay for a quote which should have been free and for which there was no prior notice. Since then, he came twice a week to our gate, repeatedly rang the bell and then left voice messages saying he would be back over and over, until we paid. This is all recorded on the gate messages which go through our phone. He also telephoned our house several times a week leaving threatening messages.. He is very unprofessional and a scary man. He acts crazy and unpredictable with his threats. My husband offered to pay him half what he was demanding just to make him go away. He refused and only got more agitated. We finally paid him $110 to go away and leave us alone because, we feared what this crazy man might do. This kind of business practice is unprofessional and an end should be made to these illegal practices. This man is a big bully and obviously desperate to make money in any way he can. We are going to the Better Business Bureau to do what we are able but, until then, Beware Consumer - this has been very anxiety provoking and something no one should ever have to endure. Do not use this company. There are many others who practice ethical business and their prices are much better as well. Gate Masters and Mr. Ron Shiring are to be avoided at all cost. read more

Ron was amazing. Excellent work at a very reasonable price. After he was finished the repair, Ron began checking everything else, lubricating where necessary and making sure all was okay. He found that one of my wheels was completely blown out and recommended replacing both. He had the parts with him and the job was completed. Ron even showed me the collapsed wheel which had imploded somewhere along the line. Now my gate runs better than when it was installed. Ron (Gate Masters) made repairs to my gate two times in 2011 for a total of $311.59. The second trip was to replace the microphone. He never checked to see that the part he installed was working (in the house). After he left I called him and told him that it was still not working -- He said that it could possibly have been a faulty microphone. Because he lived so far away, I told him not to make a special trip but to stop by next time he was in the neighborhood. Months later, when he had not called, I referred him to my next door neighbor and when the appointment was scheduled he was reminded to also stop and fix my problem. He came out and looked at the neighbors job, never even contacted me and gave the neighbor a large bill for his whooping estimate. When I called him to see why he didn't contact me, he said he didn't like it when people tried to get him to stop by(when he was in the neighborhood) just to avoid his (trip) service charge. My neighbor and I have now found a company that does excellent work for a fair price and they stand behind their work. My neighbors job was done for a fraction of Gate Masters estimate and without digging up the driveway like Gate Masters told them they would have to do. My advice: STAY AWAY FROM GATE MASTERS. My wife and I were not getting a response from our previous gate service provider and so a neighbor recommended Ron. We could not be more pleased with the result. Communication was prompt and efficient (very easily handled through text messages). It appears this fellow is capable of doing good work, as long as it's on his terms. Like another reviewer says, he seems to perceive "when you're in the area" stuff as threatening. All I asked was for him to come by and write up an estimate for a gate repair (a reasonable request according to the other guys I called after this) in order to submit it to the corporate office for approval. He was strangely irritable, sighing and huffing and speaking in "that tone" while he explained to me how impossible it was for him to do what I was asking (write an estimate). I may have tried harder to get him in touch with my corporate office if he hadn't been so rude; as it was I apologized to him for wasting his time (he didn't protest when I used those terms) and he hung up. If you're a homeowner who just wants to get something done I'm sure (considering the other reviews) he'll do a decent job. That said, if you work for any kind of large business with a corporate structure requiring tolerance for a little bureaucratic scurrying around I say skip it, unless you like strangers talking to you like you're an idiot. It may have been a possibility that had he been respectful in explaining his "trip charge" I would have paid it from petty cash, but I didn't feel like annoying him any further. He's probably just an old-school tradesman who doesn't know how to work in the world of business outside of the homeowner market. read more

I called two other companies first: One showed up, then didn't show up (twice), then the other one never showed up to the first appointment. Third times the charm as then we called Gate Masters and Ron came the next day. He explained every option for putting a sensor on our automatic gate. He then sent us a quote the next day, and fixed our gate a couple days later. (We went with a loop down the side of the driveway.) The next day we realized we forgot to show Ron an independent keypad inside the gate by the house, and he came out the next day to program that one for us as well.
