On Saturday morning I talked to some 24/7 repair services who quoted me $349 + taxes for same day repair but also decided to call Mike Bedford that one of my friends recommended (and who happens to be living in the vicinity of my neighborhood). It was an old set up and wrongly expected a couple of yahoos to come and screw it up..but within a couple of days the owner was there (In person!) and it was easy for him make something complicated very simple. Absolutely, positively the best experience I've had with a garage door company. My spring broke and when I called Bedford, (after many frustrating calls to other companies) Mike answered. He was straight forward, gave me a bid without a bunch of.... "well, you need to consider this and that". It also turned out he was several hundreds less expensive than anyone else. And, he said he could do it in about 30 minutes. Other companies were telling me it would take about an hour to an hour and a half. Needless to say I will be recommending Bedford doors to EVERYONE!!! Mike Bedford did a great job for me on a very non standard door opening system. Customs rails were installed to dramatically raise the height of the door when open which should have been done 20 years ago. WONDERFUL BEYOND WONDERFUL!! IF THERE WAS AN OPTION TO PICK TEN STARS I WOULD DO SO! Mike is unlike any tradesman I have ever had at my home. My garage door opener broke and Mike was the only person in the county who could figure out how to fix it. The parts were still under warranty but would have to be sent from AZ and would take 7-10 days to arrive. Mike spent literally hours waiting on hold with the company (Liftmaster) and figured out a way to get the parts locally, and then he went and got them for me himself! Oh and he was sure to get them covered via the warranty on my garage door opener so the parts didn't cost me a penny! WOW! Who does that? I was truly impressed and so so grateful. Then today when the power went out in my neighborhood and I had to manually open the garage door, I had no idea how to reset it once the power came back on. Since Mike had given me his cell phone number when he did my repair a month ago, I called him and he kindly walked me through how to get the door to work. Michael replaced my old wooden garage door today. A very satisfying experience. The most significant point: of all the contractors that reviewed this project. Michael was the ONLY one to take advanced notice of a unique aspect of the concrete floor which necessitated a modification in the basic door installation. Without that modification the door would not have seated properly. I don't know what the other contractors would have done, but is was most rewarding to have the issue resolved before the door was installed with negative results. This is an update to my review of 8/13. One of my ancient heavy wood panel garage doors was intermittently not lifting with auto controller.(motor is 22+ years old). Although it has been about a year since Mike performed repairs, he came and diagnosed the problem instantly, which was that the "lifter track" needed lubricating. When he finished spraying it and the other one too for good measure, he said, "No Charge." Most other servicemen would have billed for at least a "trip charge" to cover their gas and time, especially since it turned out to be a maintenance issue, but Mike is the personification of "good will"! When I asked about future prognosis, he also took the time to explain what the "death symptoms" would be when an opener-lifter gives up the ghost. However, not being an opportunist, he did not try to sell me replacement units. How refreshing and rare to encounter someone with Mike's ethics and integrity! read more
