I came home at 11 o'clock at night to no heat in a house that I had purchased only a short while ago. Luckily there was a sticker for this wonderful company on the side of the boiler. I gave them a call and within 10 minutes, I had a tech (John) call me back and in the middle of the night he came out in 12° weather. He was pleasant, knowledgeable, and had everything up and running very quickly. Our system is an old system and he knew exactly what he was doing. I called to have someone come to our house to fix a broken zone valve. The "technician" didn't have the parts needed to fix my valve so I told him just to replace both of the zone valves. After taking multiple pictures of our furnace he tells us he can't do the repair because the pipes need to be cut to install new valves. He tells us that someone else we be here in a couple of hours and leaves. We get a phone call from the company a short time later telling us they want $1,600 to install the two zone valves. We quickly declined. (How hard is it to cut and sweat two valves and connect a couple of wires?) That was an outrageous price. I've never had a problem with Gas Doctor until they were purchased by this other company. I WILL NEVER call them again. It cost us $120 for this guy just to show up. Before he left I had to tell him to turn the furnace back on because he was about to leave it off and go on his way. ( I had set the valve to manual just to keep the heat going.) Very poor service and obviously under trained technician. I won't be recommending these guys to anyone anymore. read more

Updating my review to 3 stars from 1 because, Matt from Gas Doctor called us later in the day to attempt to help solve the problem. He was apologetic and took ownership of what had happened, and got someone out immediately to look at my sink/water pressure, and we really appreciated that gesture. We had some service done to our boiler; after the service was completed, I no longer had water pressure to my kitchen sink. The tech left, stating it wasn't his problem because he was not a plumber. I spoke with the supervisor who reiterated this. I was then told that it is sometimes something that happens and there's nothing they can do about it. They took no responsibility, and told me they'd come back out to look and then again charge me. read more

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. They deserve zero stars. Charged me $225 for 20 minutes to look at a gas leak that we already knew about, only to say they couldn't fix anything because they had NONE of the parts and would have to come back. And charge me again. Not to mention, they were also here less than two weeks ago for routine maintenance and said everything looked "perfect." UPDATE: Now they've been back twice and have "fixed" it, yet it's not at all fixed and I've had no heat for a week now. UPDATE 2: They have been out 6 times, and I've been charged over $1000 for, quite literally, their incompetence. read more

They will overcharge you. Quoted $5700 to replace my pool heater. Got two other quotes from another gas company and our pool company--$3200 & $3600-for the EXACT SAME heater fully installed and the old one disposed of. They also charged me $150 for a 15 minute look to say the old heater needed to be replaced. On the phone they said I could use the coupon on their website for 10% off but at payment time the tech said no service performed no coupon. Other than denying the coupon, the tech was professional and arrived on time. AVOID! read more

This may be the most irresponsible heating company in R.I. The first experience was approximately 8 years ago when they serviced the gas heater, broke something, left and the room where the heater was filled with gas. The fire department came out and shut off the gas. Fast forward to this year, stupidly called again to have them come out and look at my heater, the rep said the cause for my siding melting next to the exhaust was because of a child's picnic table resting against the siding then said it was because a tree was removed. Cost: $150. This same rep said he would have the office email an estimate for a cleaning, no email ever came, but the invoice for the "labor" said the temp at the siding ranged from 80-103f, suggest cleaning. Today, an entirely different company came out, charged $89 to come out, took the fan off, saw a crack where the heat was going between the siding and wood of my house, suggested a replacement. I will go on every review site I can think of and post about this company. read more

Loved that they showed up wearing a mask and doing all that they could for safety precautions during COVID. I had no heat and this was the first time I had to call a company and it couldn't have went better. They were clear on their communication and pricing, they weren't cheap but their service was worth it- the tech that came out had the control needed for my furnace on his truck and I was back up and running within 2 hours of him arriving. Our heating system at our rental property failed in the middle of the night and our tenant was without heat, an on call technician promptly returned my phone call and arrived to the home within an hour and a half of my original call. He was able to diagnose and repair the problem on site with parts he had on his van. He was prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable about his craft. Thanks to him our tenants didn't have to go a night without heat. I felt their price was reasonable for the level of service that was provided and would definitely recommend them to everyone. read more

Had occasion to use them again for repairs needed to sell our home. They recommended less than Home inspection thought needed to be done so we were happy. Upon reinspection a great deal more work was required. The issue almost lost us the sale of our house. I suppose opinions were involved but we didn't have the option of time on our side. read more

I called Gas Doctor to inquire about their boiler/furnace service plan. The customer service associate who answered the call was very helpful and quickly scheduled an no-cost inspection. Tim, the service technician who completed the inspection, was on time, polite and knowledgeable. He inspected the boiler/furnace, walked around the house to check the baseboards/radiators and showed me a few maintenance items that I could do on my own. The inspection took less than an hour. There was no pressure whatsoever to sign up for the service plan; he let me know exactly which items that I had were and were not covered and that the coverage would not begin until the fee was paid. Pricing seems fair and reasonable. After all, you're paying for the warmth and security of you and your family, the parts/components of boilers/furnaces are well-constructed, and the technicians are skilled laborers. I was impressed with the ease and customer service level of the entire experience. read more

Rippoff! 2.5 hours @ $200/hour to diagnose gas valve. Half the time spent vacuuming. They want ANOTHER $470 to order & install the valve, I don't think so. Maybe I'll buy another fireplace for less!! Horrible customer service!!! They came out twice for the same heating problem and it was never resolved! They came up with a temporary solution to the problem and our heating system stopped working when the temperature went below freezing. After multiple phone calls with the manager, nothing was ever done to solve the problem. I paid for labor the two times they came out and the problem was not resolved. DO NOT USE THEM! Never again. Since this company was bought out by Santoro Oil they have gone downhill. Zero customer service. Furnace THEY INSTALLED a few years ago is not working. Not blowing air at all. Now it's a holiday weekend and the hottest weekend of the year and the god awful answering service won't forward any messages because it's "policy." These scumbags "fixed" it a few weeks ago and it broke shortly after. 2 days ago they came back to fix it again and "couldn't recreate the problem" so they couldn't figure out what was wrong but somehow got it running again. Now it's broken again. No A/C on the hottest weekend of the year with 2 young kids in the house (6 and 3) and they won't even put in a message to anyone until Tuesday. Never use this company. I trusted them for years. They installed the furnace (now broken), humidifier (broken), two hot water tanks (first one broke after a few months spilling water all over the basement). They've been to my house at least 10 times in the past 6 years. The last guy that came in even knew my dog's name he's been here so often. Find another company. They put a water heater in the first time and it went bad within a year. I called them to replace a new one, and asked if they could give a discount since it was within a year. The owner cursed me and said I was greedy. The guy who came to fix the problem, took all the parts off maybe to resell them, and left the tank by the curb. Ok, after three years of the new water heater is being replaced, guess what happened, the connection to the water heater broke, and caused a major flood in the basement. Awful experience with this company. They offer a $300 service contract for one year, this includes a cleaning $150 / and the contract $150. The guy comes to my house, misses the appointment the day before have you. He goes down to my basement to inspect my unit blows some compressed air into it, bangs around, and hangs out for the most of the time. Which I asked on the phone to the woman what if I can't get the contract, she states "everyone gets approved for the contract". Basically I'm paying $300 for a contract, because a residential gas furnace doesn't need much cleaning in the first place (I'm in the business), but I want the contract in case something goes wrong. He comes up stairs, says I need a new assembly which is going to cost me $120, which I think he was making up and just wanted more money to begin with so I was going to decline regardless but he checks to see if he has the part in his truck, he doesn't. So he's moving like a snail (time and a half, he told me. I just want this guy out of my house at this point.) So he brings me this bill for $150 for a cleaning!! I was like you have got to be kidding me, he came to inspect it for the contract, cleaned it right when he got there, after tells me I can't get the contract and charges me $150, for NOTHING have you! I would NOT recommend this company to anyone, totally rip off! Do not use this company! Maybe the worst business I have ever worked with. Came out to service my boiler and didn't fix it, but still charged me $179. Came back out and told me it was something else. I was told that the part was $629. I called a plumbing supply house that told me I could buy the part from them for $228. When I told the owner Steve I could get it cheaper he said he no longer wanted the job! When I asked why he just told me because he just didn't want to do it. I now have no hot water and this owner refuses to fix my boiler because he was unable to rake me over the coals on the part. His own employees told me that he over charges people. DO NOT USE! WORST BUSINESS I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH! I will be sending a complaint to better business bureau right after this. read more
