Going to Gary's warms my heart every time - this is a true St. Louis business. The staff are awesome. Gary is always dressed to the nines. There is thought put into all they do - including having colors that match the holiday that is close by on the tables. The food also tastes great and comes out in a timely fashion. I highly recommend stoping by here for dinner next time you go to the Fox or Symphony!

Our group of 6 had a reservation and we were seated promptly. Server brought water and we placed our orders. From here, it goes downhill. Meals came out at different times, my Cesar salad with chicken was last; took over an hour and everyone else at our table was already finished eating. Sprinkled with paprika, it looked pretty. Lettuce was fresh, but croutons were like little brown rocks. It was dressed in a vinaigrette that tasted more like vinegar than anything else instead of a creamy Cesar dressing. The chicken amounted to a couple of tablespoons of cubed chicken. One of our group said the liver and onions was terrible, very tough, and another that the fish and fries was barely warm. The complimentary cheesecake was good, but didn't compensate for the meal. Perhaps it was just an off night. But, when I observed a server carrying a full pitcher of water with his thumb on the inside of the pitcher, that clinched it for me. Sorry, I won't be back.

I have never been to Gary's Fine Dining before, so I had no idea what to expect. And boy, let me tell you, what I got was not what I was expecting! First off I got to meet Gary (the man himself) and his beautiful wife at the door. They are the sweetest couple, and just make you feel like family. Maurice, the bartender, now that man can make a drink. If I'm not familiar with a bartender, I always test their skill by ordering a dirty vodka, martini straight up. Let me tell you, that martini was so smooth, it went down so easily that I had to order another one. When I looked at the menu, I wasn't blown away by it, but when I saw somebody else order the burger, I knew I had to have one. The couple sitting at the bar next to me, were on their way to a show and needed their food fast. The kitchen pulled out all the stops, and I swear that man got his burger in two minutes flat! Now, let's talk about the cherry on top of it all, the live band. When I tell you that this band had my jaw on the floor at the very first note they sang, I am not exaggerating. The band was called G-Spot, and that is exactly what they hit! I was cheering and hooping and hollering for them on every song. Now I don't remember the name of every person who was sing, but let me tell you they ALL had me falling out of my seat. Saman Swanson though, she was hitting high Cs like she was Mariah Carey! All in all I went in not knowing what to expect, and really only anticipating having a drink and then leaving. I ended by having at least five drinks, dinner, and left, feeling like family. To Gary and his lovely wife: you guys have a real gem here, keep up the good work!

Large slice of chocolate cake. Rich but good

My friend wanted to try this place before we went to a performance at Fox so I indulged her. Fine dining is a stretch. 2 things that stand out about this business: very friendly staff and the lovely slice of chocolate cake that they seem to give everyone at meals end. My salmon was just okay but the broccoli served with it was way overcooked. My friend got salmon salad and said it was okay. They don't have a wine menu so the waiter had to tell us what varietals they served. Usually fine dining implies a wine list! Evidently they have music on some nights so that may be a good thing to enjoy there.

During a weekend trip to St. Louis, we stumbled upon this restaurant and were lured in by the sandwich board advertising 2 entrees (with drink and dessert) for $20. The attractive pricing even included tax, so our final bill was an even $20. The atmosphere is charming, and our server was a dear. This place will remain in my mind forever because the double burger was literally the largest burger I have ever consumed. Yes, it's messy, but it was so delicious, as were the crispy fries. As an ardent fan of burgers, I seriously loved this lunch. My meal ended with a slice of heavenly cheesecake that I would probably indulge in too often if I lived there! Worth noting is that they were open in the past, then took a hiatus and have been open again for around a year now, according to our server.

We were so happy to choose Gary's for lunch before a matinee show at the Fox. They had a regular menu and a small menu of lunch specials. The staff was so nice and attentive, and the food options were plentiful and delicious! I tried the catfish nuggets and my friend had the turkey bacon wrap. The fish and fries were fresh and pipping hot! With the twinkling lights and the band setup, I can tell this is quite the place at night. We can't wait to return!

Peacemaker Lobster and Crab was absolutely amazing. We ordered a ridiculous amount of food because…read morethere were so many things on the menu we wanted to try, and somehow, nearly everything we ordered was a hit. We started with Stella on tap, which just felt appropriate while visiting St. Louis, especially after touring the nearby Anheuser-Busch brewery. It was easily one of the freshest Stellas we've ever had. For food, we tried the lobster mac and cheese, lobster bisque with pieces of lobster, a pound of steamed crab legs, fried green tomatoes, and the warm lobster roll. The lobster roll was phenomenal. We shared it, but I honestly could have eaten the entire sandwich myself. The real standout, though, was just how perfectly the seafood was cooked. Both the lobster and crab were juicy, sweet, and tender with just the right amount of chew. Nothing was rubbery or overcooked, but it wasn't soft or mushy either. I genuinely don't think they could have cooked the seafood any better. The fried green tomatoes were also cooked perfectly and something I was excited to try since you don't see them on every menu. Unfortunately, they were a little too spicy for my personal taste, so we didn't finish them, but that's definitely more about my spice tolerance than the quality of the dish. The atmosphere was another plus. It's a really cute setup with great ambiance, and our server was wonderful. We also walked right in without a reservation and had no wait at all, which has honestly been one of our favorite things about eating our way through St. Louis. Coming from California, we're used to having to plan ahead for popular restaurants, sometimes weeks in advance. Here, we've been able to discover some fantastic places without having to plan our entire trip around restaurant reservations. I will say, this was probably the most expensive meal of our trip. The one pound of steamed crab legs was $65 market price, and the lobster roll was $37 market price, so Peacemaker definitely isn't the cheapest place we've eaten. That said, considering the quality of the seafood and how much we enjoyed everything, it was absolutely worth the splurge. From the crab legs to the lobster roll to the bisque and mac and cheese, everything we tried was delicious. Combine that with the atmosphere, great service, and being able to walk right in, and this was easily one of our favorite meals in St. Louis. I'm actually hoping I can convince some of my coworkers from my training class to go back with me before I leave Missouri. I think that probably says everything you need to know about how much I enjoyed it.

The outside is very unassuming, as are most restaurants along Sidney St. in my opinion, but upon walking to the table for our reservation the first thing that caught my eye was the wooden plank ceiling which really fit the expected vibe of a seafood restaurant with more of an upscale feel. After being seated, our server brought us some water in these cool colored mason jars which added to the character of the entire restaurant. Our server was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed as she checked in quite a few times throughout our dining experience and answered our questions in full. We started off with some cocktails: the Port Royal as well as the seasonal slushie, the Yodermelon. Both of them were quite delicious, with the Yodermelon tasting exactly like a refreshing watermelon slushie; you could barely tell there was any alcohol in it! The Port Royal was very good as well and fit the seaside vibe with the rum & pineapple mixture. For the food, we got the seasonal salad which was a Tomato Salad with tomatoes (obviously) beneath a bed of arugula, peaches, pickled red onion, feta, croutons, dill, & a pistachio pesto. Although I really enjoyed all of the different flavors, I do wish the salad was mixed a little bit more as most of the pesto dressing was at the bottom which made it difficult to coat the rest of the salad as we ate. I ordered the Snow Crab Legs as my entree which came complete with a bucket & bib. The clarified butter & roasted lemon to drizzle really complimented the crab. There's something really satisfying about having to work for your food after you're already paying for it since, at the end of it all, you feel accomplished! Despite my love of crab legs, I can't help but feel like I should've ordered something else, though. They were delicious of course, but a side wasn't included despite the somewhat steep market price which meant I was left with a pile of crab legs and nothing else to snack on (besides my girlfriend's lobster roll & chips, thankfully). I was still left feeling hungry after making my way through the crab, so even a recommendation of ordering a side may have swayed me into having a more satiating meal. In short, it felt like I ordered one of the things on the menu that didn't have much character at a restaurant filled to the brim with it. I guess I was just hoping for a differentiator in the preparation or presentation that made this meal feel more unique, which I didn't really get. In summation, I was very pleased with Peacemaker Lobster & Crab and will definitely be finding my way back in the future, likely for a coveted Lobster Roll, but I will be passing on the crab legs next time.

Let me start with the menu. The hardest part was deciding what to order! The selection was impressive, and judging by our experience, there were no wrong choices. Our party of four started with gator tails and voodoo shrimp, accompanied by a fresh slaw. Both appetizers were excellent and set the stage for what turned out to be a fantastic meal. Our entrées included the Cajun sampler, grilled oysters, shrimp and grits, and the catfish platter. Every dish was met with enthusiasm, and everyone left thoroughly satisfied. Without cocktails, our two appetizers and four entrées, including a generous tip, came to approximately $200. Worth every penny! A special acknowledgment goes to our server, Jordan, who was bright, attentive, efficient, and especially helpful when it came time to navigate all those tempting menu choices. The kitchen clearly knows what it is doing, and the quality of the food and service made this a memorable dining experience. Now, about that first impression... Unfortunately, our arrival was the one disappointing part of the evening. The young lady greeting guests at the door wore a mask, but it did little to conceal what appeared to be a sneer at the inconvenience of greeting and seating us. With only two other tables occupied during our early supper, we were escorted to a dimly lit corner of the restaurant, seemingly without consideration for the dining experience we might have preferred. We were four middle-aged professionals coming off a workday, looking forward to good food, conversation, and an opportunity to unwind. Thankfully, another member of the waitstaff immediately recognized the less-than-ideal seating arrangement and graciously offered us a table in a brighter, more inviting area. That was our second first impression, and everything improved from there! From the attentive service to the exceptional food, the chef and waitstaff delivered an experience that more than made up for our initial disappointment. My only suggestion to management is to remember that hospitality begins at the door. The greeting sets the tone, and the welcome should reflect the same care and attention that clearly goes into the food and table service. Despite the rocky start, we left impressed, satisfied, and glad we trusted the reviews. This is absolutely a place worth discovering in downtown St. Louis!

We began with the Caesar salad, featuring crisp baby gem lettuce, white anchovies, Parmigiano Reggiano, and garlic croutons. It was beautifully presented, fresh, and perfectly dressed, with just the right savory depth from the anchovies and Parmesan. For our entrées, we chose the Vodka Crab Pasta and the Verlasso salmon. The pasta was outstanding. Generous pieces of king crab were complemented by a rich vodka sauce, Peruvian pearl peppers, peas, and spicy breadcrumbs that added a wonderful contrast in texture and a subtle kick of heat. Every component worked together without overpowering the delicate sweetness of the crab. The pan-seared Verlasso salmon was equally impressive--beautifully cooked with a crisp exterior while remaining moist and tender inside. The haricots verts and fingerling potatoes were excellent accompaniments, and the lemon butter sauce added richness and brightness without overwhelming the salmon. We finished with the vanilla bean crème brûlée, which had that wonderful contrast of a delicate caramelized crust over silky, creamy custard. Our grapefruit martinis were refreshing, well balanced, and an excellent complement to the meal. As memorable as the food was, the service truly elevated the experience. It was outstanding--attentive, knowledgeable, and gracious without ever feeling intrusive. The pacing was equally well handled; we never felt rushed, yet there was never an unnecessary wait between courses. 801 Fish delivered exactly what we hoped for: excellent food, polished service, and a refined, inviting atmosphere. A thoroughly enjoyable evening and an easy five stars.

We made a birthday reservation for 5 of us and were very well taken care of. Not only did the menu have "Happy Birthday" printed for the birthday girl but our server and all assisting staff were professional and able to answer any questions we had. We were sat a a large, round table near the entrance surrounded by other tables and booths but could also see the large bar area and a counter that overlooks the open kitchen a bit where you can see the staff working such as shucking oysters. Our food was delicious! A couple of us shared the Crab Cake Appetizer and raw oysters before ordering Chilean Sea Bass, Scallops, and steak (not pictured). Sides were a la carte so we shared the Lobster Mac n Cheese, Lobster Fried Rice, and Mashed Potatoes. I personally enjoyed the Sea Scallops and Sea Bass the most! I thought it was an interesting balance of flavors to have Miso and Kimchi on the Sea Bass and I also appreciated the yellow curry style of the scallops. For dessert, the birthday girl was brought out a complimentary chocolate tart and we ordered a dessert special of Lemon Cheesecake. We thoroughly enjoyed our desserts and our server explained they have an in-house pastry chef. I'd recommend 801 Fish for any celebration, a date night, or any reason you're looking to impress or treat yourself!
