We recently had a pool with a rock waterfall installed with Gary Pools. I chose them because they have been in business for many years here in San Antonio. I did not read any reviews beforehand which I now regret. When we met with the designer, Joe, he said all of the right things and made it seem as though it was going to be a great experience. Because their design software did not have the capability of offering a rendering of a rock waterfall, we showed him several pictures on the internet and he convincingly assured us that the pictures were exactly what it would look like. In the end, the depth of the pool was not what we discussed and we did not have the two umbrella holes that we discussed at the initial meeting. When I went back and looked at the contract, he had made a mistake and designated the depth of the pool to be 4.5 ft instead of the 5.5 ft that we had requested and only put in one anchor for an umbrella. Because we had not caught it on the contract, I knew we would not have any recourse to argue this so we let it go. It went pretty smoothly until the waterfall was built. It went downhill from there. The contractors came to build the rock (boulder) waterfall and before they applied the grout, it looked great. After they applied the grout it looked horrible. The grout was smeared on so thick in between the rocks (up to 3 1/2 inches in places) and was a completely different color than the rocks. It was a mess. When we contacted, Brian, our project manager overseeing the project, who at this point had never stepped foot on the property, we were told that we chose that grout color. We chose the grout color for the flagstone around the pool. We did not know what color the boulders would be as we would have never chosen white grout for red boulders. Also, when we explained our dissatisfaction with the look of the waterfall, Brian told us "This is the way Gary Pools builds their waterfalls." He tried for days to convince us that it was necessary to apply the grout that thick so the pool wouldn't drain out. By the looks of every rock waterfall on the internet, this is not true. Also, in all of the pictures on their website and on their Facebook page, the grout between the rocks is barely visible. After days of him trying to convince us that it was the way it had to built and us having to threaten to not pay the contractors, he eventually agreed that it was too thick and agreed to have the contractors come back and remove the grout and redo it. Once the grout was redone, a few days later it started cracking in several places and in big chunks in a couple of places. When I notified him of this, he said, "Ya, that can happen. I'll send them back out to repair it." At this point, I had no faith in the construction of the waterfall and realized Brian was not there to make sure we, as the customer, were satisfied after spending $66,000.00 to build our dream pool. When I asked Brian to have his superior contact me he told me he didn't have one, that the owner was his superior and the owner didn't talk to customers. Days later, I demanded to speak to the owner because it was obvious that he was not going to help us. At this point, he said I will have my general manager, Pete call you. I questioned the fact that he had told me he didn't have a manager and he had no response. I spoke with Pete who offered the same terrible customer service as Brian. He said he would be out that day to look at the waterfall as he "wanted us to be satisfied" and he never showed. In the end, we were not satisfied with the waterfall, but honestly, were just tired of fighting to get what we paid for. Also, the "Pool School" that they use as a selling point is a joke. They come by when they want with no appointment or heads up. They came unannounced to set up all of the equipment and my husband was working and not available and they told him to just go online and pull up the information. I would stay away from Gary Pools. read more
