I've been going to see Maria for a year. She is an AMAZING stylist. She is so talented, attentive and patient I make trips to Seattle a priority to come see her, even though I no longer live in Washington. What makes Maria a great stylist is how she listens to her clients. She is not one of those stylists who 'kind of listens' and then does whatever she wants to your hair. She asks a lot of questions and is always ready to talk about your concerns, your lifestyle, and what you want. She offers pictures and examples of styles when I'm unsure of color choices. I'm not really an adventurous person when it comes to hair color, and I love that Maria understands this. She works within my comfort zone and her suggestions are ALWAYS perfect! I always leave Gary Manuel with beautiful, sexy hair. Best of all, it's never a look or style I can't recreate at home on my own. The bottom line is, Maria is professional and stylish. It doesn't matter if you want an edgy or simple look - she listens and captures exactly what you want. read more

I've been going to Gary Manuel for a number of years now. The service is incredible, staff is always friendly, and I always feel welcome each time I come in for a cut. I see Maria, who I recommend to everyone I get the chance. She has style to match her skills. While she listens to whatever I want of course, she also urges me to try new styles and push the envelope, which I truly appreciate! A bit pricer, but the value of the impeccable cut, and hand and scalp massages all make it well worth it! read more

My angel stylist at Rudy's moved to the south last year, taking her magic shears and $21 price with her...sad. After a horrible haircut at Vain, I took a friends advice and started seeing Dan at GM. The cost is more than double of what I was used to paying, but Dan is fabulous and my hair looks great everytime. I appreciate that he isn't afraid to offer his opinion and take risks with my hair - there is nothing worse than getting a haircut and having NO ONE notice afterwards, right? read more

Hallelujah, I have finally found my hair stylist!! I was super spacy and loopy today, and I walked by Gary Manuel probably for the millionth time, and decided to walk in and sign up for a haircut, I made an appt for later that day. I was nervous because my last seattle salon experience (at Vain) was not exactly fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised, however, at gary manuel, first thing when I come in they gave me some info to fill out and a coffe with splenda(it was freezing, that earned major points). MY stylist, sonia, spent some time t alking to me about what I was looking for and helped describe what her thoughts were. She completely listened to me and gave me one of the best haircuts that I have had. I would definitely recommend checking this place out, and go to SONIA! read more

My favorite salon yet. After trying many places and many stylists with mixed results, I took a friend's referral and gave Alex at Gary Manuel a try. I have never been disappointed. The salon is great-- hip and upscale without being pretentious. And best of all, I love my hair-- every time! read more

I went here for a cut and color and paid around $140 for it. I was relatively happy with the color and the cut is good. I am not sure it was worth the $150+, especially since they want you back in another 6 weeks to fork out another $150 to trim it up and re-highlight. I might check out the place my mom goes to as it is around the same price and it would be nice to have a comparison. Or I might check out a different stylist at GM. read more

My last colorist at another salon retired and I was assigned a new one. My last dye job with the new colorist was an absolute disaster. I ended up with three unintentional different colors on my long hair. That was super frustrating for me because I am not one of those fun, bold people that dye hair in beautiful bright colors. All I want is to look like my boring self by covering the greys my natural color, that is all. Since I was due for a cut and color and Gary Manuel opened the Pioneer Square location, which happens to be 2 blocks from where I work, I decided to give it a shot. I met with David and explained to him what happened to my hair and he was incredibly patient listening to my drama. He then gave me 3 detailed options of how to tackle my issue while taking into consideration the health of my hair and also my budget (my hair is extremely dry from decades of coloring it, which causes a lot of breakage as well). We decided on a single process color but in 3 different colors that would correct the different areas damaged by the old dye job accordingly while remaining true to my roots, pun intended. The final result was fantastic! David said that it will probably take one more session for all the signs of the old dye job to be gone but I can't find any trace of the disaster that it once was. So if you are on the hunt for a good colorist, you should totally check David out at their new location :) read more

Sarah is amazing with perms and curly hair! She listens to what you want and after I showed her a few pictures of the style I wanted, I got exactly that. I had a perm over 6 months ago from Sarah and it still looks amazing. People ask all the time if it's natural! It was definitely worth the extra cash to find a professional who knows what she's doing! I would recommend Sarah for anyone who needs a perm or has curly hair. :) read more

Kami Wright is a very talented hair and color artist. I just returned from a trip to New York, and my friends there all said my hair looked better, both color and sytle, than ever...and they are bitchy. She is focused and attentive. Aveda products have washed out of my hair before, but not when applied properly, as Kami does. I usually don't feel comfortable in high profile salons, but everyone there is so nice and happy, it's a real treat for me! read more

This is a very professional, very well managed salon. I've been going there every three weeks for several months (hate the roots!) and everyone I've encountered has been friendly and very competent. The person who has kept my roots at bay is Christopher Archiopoli. Christopher believes that getting your hair done is not like getting the oil changed on your car. It is a total experience, and he aims to make it a pleasant, calming, rejuvenating one. Not only that, his color work is spot on. I cannot recommend Christopher and Gary Manuel Salon highly enough. read more

I didn't expect to give Gary Manuel a second try, but then Gary, the founder of the salon, contacted me personally. His individual attention and eagerness to provide a more satisfying experience really impressed me, so I agreed to return. He handpicked Tsofia for the job of correcting my color, and I was not disappointed. With thoroughness and attention to detail, she applied several different treatments and techniques to my hair until it looked consistent, glowing, and polished. She and her assistant even stayed late on a Saturday night to make sure that every detail of my new color was spot on. I was so happy with the improvement and with her expertise that I've already scheduled my next appointment with her. This return visit definitely reversed my opinion of the salon. read more

I went to Phase 3 on a recommendation. It was kind of intense and noisy, but the vibe is friendly and professional. I guess I was used to a more laid back scene like Capellis. That's another review. The woman who cut my hair is Natalia and she is lovely. She is not a student. Natalia was friendly and held up her end of the conversation, so I didn't feel like a boor. I especially liked the scalp massage she gave after washing my hair. Nice extra that adds up to a nice tip. I shall return. read more

I was so sad to learn of the passing of Gary Howse. I had the privilege of his color work years ago while working as a volunteer model at one of their shows which was benefitting breast cancer. It was a fun event I'll never forget. read more

About twelve years ago, I got a horrible, terrible haircut from another to-remain-unnamed salon. I went to Tsofia at Gary Manuel to get it fixed and have been a loyal Tsofia client ever since. Tsofia is kind, thoughtful, decisive, and precise. All fabulous qualities! When it comes to my hair, I just let her do whatever she wants - she knows what's in style, she knows my hair, she knows what looks good on me. I don't need to mess that knowledge up! I get tons of compliments on my hair - Tsofia is great with color. She also knows how to handle curly hair. Plus, she's easy to be around, a good conversationalist, and you can tell she's a really good person. Love Tsofia. Love Gary Manuel. read more

I switched to Gary Manuel about a year-and-a-half ago after a terrible experience at Gene Juarez, and I've been very pleased. I've been seeing Connie the whole time I've been going here, and she's just wonderful. After she had being dying my hair a beautiful chocolate brown for several months, I decided that I was bored and wanted to go red. Not a subtle auburn red, but fiery orange-red- and wouldn't you know it, she was able to pull it off in ONE sitting! Granted, I was there for about 6 hours, but still- that's pretty awesome. That was about a year ago, and I go in every 4 weeks to keep my red up. In that time, the salon stopped carrying the color line we were using, so we switched my red to the Aveda color line, and that took several appointments to get the red back to where I liked it, but we got there (and every time I left my hair looked great, I just wanted it brighter). Connie is patient and wants you to love your hair- if you don't love it, tell her and she'll work with you until you do. Another thing to note is that Connie is a really intense perfectionist, so don't think you'll be in and out with her. She really takes her time- do I like spending over 3 hours here every 4 weeks? Not really, but my hair looks amazing, so it's worth it. And the staff is SO nice- when my parking meter is running out, the front desk people with take my card and keys and go fill it back up for me. And Connie is a breeze to chat with. I've also seen Gia, when Connie was out, and she did a great job as well. I would totally recommend this salon to anyone, and I will continue going back because I'm now addicted to how awesome my hair is. read more

First time there - it was a really good experience! Very good and seasoned stylist. She listened made suggestions and came up with something we both loved! read more

this place is great for those of us whose budgets don't include $200 haircuts once a month. i saw parker who did a great job on my hair, listening to exactly what i said and constantly re-evaluating what we were doing to my everchanging "do". she also cut it keeping in mind that i am trying to grow it out and basically helped me see the light at the end of the tunnel...she was chatty, but not too much so. it also still has that salon feel and for some place that only charges around $30 bucks a pop, that is very hard to find. it makes buying the products so much less painful and you still get to leave with that great "new cut" shine... read more

God I love Phase III. It's such a great experience from beginning to end, and I get a great cut to boot. I'm really bad at articulating what I want my hair to look like, and I've gotten some pretty bad cuts over the years because of that. But Connie can somehow translate my inept descriptions into not just what I want, but a few steps better to make my hair look great. I really can't believe how affordable it is considering the level of service and quality of the work! read more

I walked into the Phase 3 training salon one days years ago because I was in search of saving a few bucks. Karlie took care of me that day (full foil and cut) and I was so happy I kept going back for years and she even took care of me before I left town for my destination wedding. Not only did she color my hair beautifully but I always looked forward to sitting in her hair and catching up as she's a very fun person and fun to be around. Karlie graduated from Phase 3 and can now be found at the Gary Manuel Salon. Go see her! read more

I went to phase 3 twice and was really empressed both times. I had just moved here in november from Tennessee and was dreading having to find new stylest as I had just had my long locks cut right before moving. I had first gone in november. I called and of course was very picky and leery. I specified that I needed a stylest who was familiar with the razor cut and I was recommended to Mia. I came in and was pleasantly surprised. Mia was very personable as was the staff. Left with a great cut. I decided I wanted to grow my hair out and (silly me) didn't think I needed to get it trimmed in doing so. Come May and I had a mullet. So i figured it was time to go back to the salon for a touch up. I requested Mia but she was booked for the time I had wanted to go so was after describing my hair and what I wanted done I was recommended to Dan. I came in to my appt and was greeted nicely as allways with the great staff. Dan was AWESOME!! He knew exactly what I wanted and needed done. And I have gotten soooo many complements. I will definately be going back. I highly recommend this Phase 3 and Dan. This is a place where you can get a quality cut for half the price. The service is amazing and of course Aveda Products. Just can't go wrong. read more

It took me a long time to find a hair stylist that I love in Seattle but I'm glad that I found Ashley!

I really am pleased with my experience here. I love all the locations Gary Manuel has. The service is excellent and marita did a wonderful job on my brows and facial. Would definitely keep going back. read more

Great atmosphere and great service. Easy to schedule in advance.

Good God Monica is amazing! I went in with jet black hair and left with the most beautiful auburn, red color. My hair looks and feels healthy even after a quadruple process. Monica is truly gifted. She listens to what you say and is great at translating what you want into a look that will work for you. I highly recommend her for cut, color and any hair service you may need. read more

If you want great hair, go to Gary Manuel and you will not be disappointed. Any stylist here can do technically amazing haircuts and beautiful color. I like a stylist that listens to what I want but still calls the shots and does what will look the best on me. My favorites here are Opal and Heather, they keep me coming back!! read more

Still love Phase 3, but bummer-Serrana has moved on to motherhood!

I am not usually thrilled to spend a bunch of money getting my haircut, but all of the stylists from Phase 3 eventually end up at Gary Manuel and that is how I met Karlie. She was cutting my hair for awhile at Phase 3, but I liked her so much that I decided to follow her over to Gary Manuel. I like that it isn't pretentious there. Karlie is always friendly and funny, but never annoying or acting like she is interested in me when clearly she is not! I get so many compliments on my hair from people everywhere, which is always a good sign. I love that I get what I ask for, the color is always dead on, which is super important for me. I also love that when I want something new and different that is what i get without looking like someone I am not. So I spend a bit more money than I would like, having a great haircut is worth it!! read more

The stylists are so good, I'm happy to see virtually anyone. It is obvious that they are continuously training and learning new styles. Also very kid friendly. Always a treat! read more

My haircut is fabulous! My hair looks so natural with this color she helped me pick out! (I wanted to go darker.) She totally formed this haircut to look amazing on me. Theresa you are truly amazing. Thank goodness you could squeeze me in that random friday afternoon. I love your puggles. Love the service here, they pamper you, conversation is wonderful, magazines not out of date, tea and water, lots of smiles. $160.00 for haircut/color+her tip ;) I'm totally okay with this. read more

I see Parker and she's fantastic! She listens well and really makes sure she understands what I want before she cuts. After the cut, she is always up for trying new things with my blow dry and style--sometimes curling iron, sometimes flat iron. She also teaches at the Gary Manuel schools so you know you are in the hands of someone who is so good at what she does that they let her teach others. read more

Love this salon! Ashley is wonderful and always does an amazing job with my cut and color. She is extremely friendly and professional, and so is the front desk staff. This salon offers customer service that goes above and beyond. For example, Ashley takes the time to give me an Aveda hand massage while we're waiting on my foils to set. I always leave happy and have only had the most positive experiences here. read more

Been to Phase 3 salon 3 times now and LOVE it. My stylist is awesome (I'm not going to say who she is because I want to keep her for myself)....all I can say is that it is easy to get an appointment, my hair always looks fabulous when I walk out of there, and continues to look great weeks later. And all that for a very, very reasonable price. read more

I love this place! I have been getting my hair done here for years now, and I have been happy (sometimes even ecstatic) with what they've done every time. I've had cuts and color done at both the regular salon and Phase 3, and it's always been great. Sure, it's expensive, but you totally get what you pay for. read more

Great experience! I recently moved to Seattle and have been trying to decide where to go get my hair cut. I chose Gary Manuel because of the great reviews here and was thrilled to realize it was right in my neighborhood too! I made an appt. with Heather based on the reviews I read and am writing this after just returning from my first Seattle haircut. Heather was so so good! She is incredibly talented, took in to account everything I said, my face shape, my lifestyle, and we discussed the pictures I brought with me. After a wonderful shampoo and massage from Harrison, I got one of my best haircuts in years! My eyes just pop now with this new cut and I look fresh and young and couldn't be happier!! Thank you Heather! I'm so relieved to have found you!! I'll be going back to Heather this Friday for color too! --Stacey (I'm using my husband's acct. so that's why the name above says Thomas J.) read more

Really terrific place. They make it so easy from beginning to end. I've been going there for 8 years and the one time I hated my haircut, they got me in the next morning to fix it. Plus the salon is a wonderful contributor to the community -- they have fundraisers and seem like they treat their employees well. While I've seen a few super rich-seeming clients in neighboring chairs, no one at the salon has a snooty vibe. Worth the money. read more

I'm not sure why my review keeps getting removed by the filter, but Heather really is great, and I've been a long time client of hers, and I think she deserves some acknowledgement, so hopefully this won't be removed again. read more

I have been going to Gary Manual in Belltown for about a year now. I really love it. Lots of cool positive energy and the stylists really care about their work and making you delighted. I am a big fan of Patti. Great colorist and has lots of flair. I was going to a place just down the street for years but they became too big and service fell to assembly line quality. For the price I pay, I expect to get just a little love. Gary Manual still sees us as people and not just another dome to wash, cut, and blow dry. read more

I Had a great experience with Derik and Daisy! I love my hair! I had boring hair and wanted something totally different and they took it to a whole new level! I can't believe I have purple in my hair AND it's a short style! I love it! Thanks again! read more

Ashley does the best cut, color and up-do's! Love this salon!!

My experience here was great! I was visiting seattle and decided to do something different to my hair.. I was very hesitant because I was out of town and just finding a good stylist online was not the easiest! I booked with Maria and she did not disappoint. I have NEVER had the attention in a hair salon like the one she gave me. She sat with me before working on anything for at least 5 minutes to go over what I wanted to do to my hair, the procedures, the options etc! And besides that she did an amazing job on my hair. She did a bali ash look. I will definitely be back when I visit Seattle !! I highly recommend Maria, she is amazing and loves what she does. read more
