I love the two women who do my eyelash tinting - both are great. However, the salon uses your phone number to send unsolicited texts reminding you to make an appointment. Both times texts came through around 5am on a SATURDAY, waking me up. I complained to the salon each time but there was no apology. I won't go back. This is a well run full service salon. They honor appointments on time, it's clean, professional, and beautifully stocked with salon products. The staff is kind and everyone is helpful and sweet and makes you feel welcome. I saw all types of people with all different types of hair colors, textures, and styles, and each one looked amazing when leaving. I had my hair blown and curled for a wedding and my hair looked excellent. The stylist even taught me a few tips and took her time. She even changed the final look because she felt she could do better which shows she cared. After I left I received emails of promotions, coupons, and updates of the salon which I really like. The staff gets along well which is refreshing because I have been to too many salons with catty stylists that create an unpleasant environment. I will be going back soon. I had decided to try my local salon for my eyebrow shaping after Fringe stopped providing this service. They have 2 on staff at Garubo. I decided to go with whomever I could get first appt. So I had the jr staff person. While she did clean up my eyebrow and nothing that was wrong, she actually made them too thin. I would have expected her to think more about my face and shape, and my age, and leave it a little more thick than thin, and also learned from previous person good to actually not have brow extend around to typical end to lift my face. She did not do this. I think she is someone more used to doing brows for younger people, or fuller brows, so might be why not it did not stand out as good as when others have done my brows. Again, its fine, just not remarkable. And once you have experienced remarkable, you will seek it out. This would be ok in a pinch. read more

I've moved to Denver and one of my biggest losses is leaving Adrienne. To find a new salon in Denver, she suggested that I look for someone who has a nice cut and ask who cuts her hair. Well, so far I haven't seen any good cuts. But I will tell you that over and over I had people stop me in the NJ area and ask me that question. That says everything about Adrienne. I have been going to this salon for years and have referred many there. On my way to my appointment I was notified by my sons school that I had to pick him up due to illness. When I called to cancel and reschedule the appointment for next day (in which I already had an additional service scheduled), they we're disagreeable and preceded to let me know they would charge me for the cancellation. I understand policy, but I'm a working mother with two small children and couldn't leave my sick son at school while I got my hair done. I was really surprised at the response. I started coming to this salon over a year ago because I had to follow my favorite hair stylist. Betty has been blow drying my hair for over 5 years and she is the BEST! I have very long curly hair, she knows how to straighten it but also give it a good amount of volume. It is a bit pricey but hey, you gotta pay for good quality. I wanted to post an update to my previous review because, after posting, I received a package and a very kind note from the owner Janine responding to the issues I had with their services. I feel like Janine should teach a PR course in damage control. She sent me a number of nice products, a gift card and her note recognized and responded to my grievance that a top-tier and expensive salon shouldn't be charging extra to dry a customers hair. The time she took to reach out to me and how non-defensive and understanding she was completely worked. I will definitely go back, because a) the colorist who did my hair was great and b) what a terrific way for a business owner and human being to handle an issue. My review was kind of brutal and snarky and rather than responding in kind, she listened to what I had to say and sent me a gift box?! Certainly not what I expected and that action will keep me as a paying customer. 5 stars for Janine and her savvy and deft handling of a disgruntled (and pregnant) customer. read more

I've been a loyal customer since 2005 in my teens and I have to say I have never once disliked my haircuts. I've had several people cut my hair throughout the years as my style has changed, stylists have come and go, and obviously as they get more experienced, their rates go up. This has to be the one place that I'd probably trust anyone to cut my hair. They educate their stylists which some salons take for granted but it shows when these stylists are all so multifaceted. I started with Bastille, have had Jessy and also Nick. I love everyone's personalities and even Mr. Garubo himself who always shoots a smile and a compliment when you're there! You even see him give his stylists his input which shows you he's invested I. His employees and make sure every customer leaves happy. LOVE this place more than anything. Oh and it doesn't hurt that their products have kept my hair in amazing voluminous condition for so many years. read more

I love this place. I recently moved to the area and decided to give the salon a try based on a friend's recommendation. First I got my hair cut by Katty. She was fantastic! She took the time to ask me questions to figure out what I was going for and what I needed advice on. She genuinely listened, answered my questions and executed exactly as i had requested. it looks great. I came in the next week to get my eyebrows done (they have never looked better!) and color. i have been wanting the ombre/balayage highlights for a long time and decided to go for it. Kyle did my color and it looks AMAZING!!! I also thought that the price was super reasonable considering the high quality of her work. Seriously. You need to go to her. Overall, what I loved most about this salon is that it is high end with a lot of talent, but I never felt out of place or that any of the staff was snobby or pretentious. Great place. I have been to the blow out bar a few times and it has been nothing but amazing. They use wonderful products ( that don't weigh your hair down) and give amazing advice. I have had Laura who is wonderful and great to talk to. I believe she has been promoted now. Another thing I like is how they treat their staff. Whenever someone has been promoted they send out a congrats e-mail which is great. Kenya is also another great person there, I haven't had her as a stylist(yet) but she has given great advice about my hair type(and they work with all types of hair at this salon). The only thing I did not like is the price changing at the blowbar once they have been working on your hair for more than 30 min. I understand that there are other appointments waiting but I don't like being charged different prices every time. I'll be visiting soon for a cut and some color! read more

I just recently moved to the area and I was looking to get a cut. I am not afraid to try new places because I always think if its a bad cut it will grow back...oh boy has this place changed my mind about this. I got THE WORSE haircut I've ever gotten in my life!!! It is so bad I am trying to keep it up with pins etc and I can wait for it to grow back. I went for a short haircut and I brought a picture but a good stylist (I would hope) would guide you and give you a cut that looks good on your face. My hair was butchered and I look terrible in it, anyone would. It looks like a child gave me the cut, seriously! I kept trying to convince myself that it wasn't that bad while I was there and I left without saying anything...once I got home I realized how bad it was, especially after washing it. All the reviews here were so great that that's why originally I decided to go for it. Maybe I expected too much from the stylist but then again it is their job to make you look good not awful! read more

I arrived with severely and insanely damaged hair. It was orange and green at the same time. They brought it back and made it look great! Before I visited Garubo, I did not have an appreciation for the education and artistry that goes into hair color. With Ashley you quickly realize how much there is to know and it's clear she really enjoys a good challenge! I've been to several salons in NYC that were great but the attention to detail and color correction to not compare to what I've gotten at Garubo. When I need any kind of touch up or change, Ashley provides exactly what I am looking for. Her knowledge of color, hair texture and condition and skin tone are impressive. everyone at the salon is professional and friendly. The only service I've tried and can rate is hair color by Ashley, and she's amazing. She's truly an artist and will listen to what you want and make honest suggestions. You will find it's easy to trust her because she knows what she's doing. She will also tell you to come back and she can adjust the color after you try it out for a few days, she cares that you're satisfied with the results and I always am.
