We stopped by for the pre fixe Valentine's Day dinner menu and walking in the outdoor area looked so beautiful I could tell it would be so gorgeous in the spring and summer warmer weather. The inside is really cute with lots of seating options. It looks like a home that was converted to a restaurant, so there's a fireplace and a beautiful walls and ceilings that add a lot of character but cozy feel. The food was really good. The pre fixe menu seemed to provide a flavor of what the chef could offer although it wasn't their regular menu. We had the most delicious focaccia with strawberry butter, chicken nuggets and caviar with whipped cream fraiche (interesting combo) for starters, amazing steak frites and baked lobster gnocchi as mains, and fried cheesecake and red grocer for desserts. The staff were so nice and attentive despite a full restaurant and willing to make recommendations when requested. We will definitely be bank when it gets warmer to try the outdoor space! read more

Garten has a winning adorable environment! I love just sitting out and eating apps with a little cocktail or two with friends. The food wasn't much to write home about though. The pretzels were good and I liked the mustard that came with them although it was pretty scant to use on both pretzels, could use more. The cheese and meat board I feel like has downgraded in the last few years! I used to love it but it felt really bare-bones last night. The hummus is yummy with the pruscuitto and hot pickles in one bite but it feels really underwhelming for a price of almost $30 - perhaps it needs another meat option or some nuts? Something to make it more worth my buck! And the brusselsprouts were flavorful but mostly just the burnt loose leaves. I would have liked to get a few more whole sprouts in the dish, but it is a sizable portion. read more

I debated with either 3 or 4 stars and decided to round up for service and atmosphere. The food here isn't bad but it's slightly above average. Beautiful restaurant inside and out. I think it would be a great place for just some drinks and apps. 3 of us went to dinner there last night. Got the chicken schnitzel vodka spatzle. That's a mouthful lol. The noodles weren't crinkly and toothsome like I'm used to. They were like an overly soft smooth pasta noodle. The vodka sauce didn't have much flavor the dish wasn't bad it just lacked pizazz. We also ordered the curry wurst. I thought I was going to get the wurst on a bun but it came sliced paper thin and dry over some French fries. The flavor was there just dry. Would be better as a whole sausage over the fries. The summer salad was all arugula with a few small pieces of fresh Mozz and a sprinkling of corn and some cherry tomatoes with a balsamic dressing. Super basic for $16 again it was good but uninspired. I'll come back just for the atmosphere alone. Service was great and patio seating was lovely. read more

What a hidden gem in Severna Park. My sister took me here, and we had a wonderful experience. The food was top notch. It's also a place where it was just to easy to hang out and talk. It was a cool, rainy May evening, and we also had the luxury of sitting near the fireplace. Looking forward to sunnier weather to sit in their outdoor patio. While the food is obviously the prize, the ambiance is a super close second as it is so easy to just sit there and take in the vibe. read more

One of the best designed restaurants I've ever been to - immediately met with beautiful architecture and design, along with thoughtful touches to make the experience that much better. Perfect outdoor area for seating and activities, ample parking, the inside is equally fantastic with food and beverages to look forward to. Crunchy outside, the thin cutlet on the inside could've been a bit thicker to have a better meat to bread ratio. Soft potato roll. Plenty of pickles. Good sandwich over all. My husband and I were driving back from Easton to Baltimore yesterday and wanted to grab a bite to eat on the drive back - somewhere we hadn't been before between Annapolis and Baltimore (anything after the Bay Bridge was in our rearview). I was scrolling through Resy and saw Garten. I hadn't heard of it, so I looked it up and I was charmed. So we made a reservation and stopped by for an early dinner. What a place. It's a German biergarten style restaurant. The interior was beautiful as well (we saw it when we went inside to get seated), but we couldn't resist sitting outside on a pretty day, because their "garten" area is so charming (covered, with fans when it's hot, an outdoor bar, picnic tables). They had a great menu of wines, beers, and cocktails. My husband had a Hefeweizen, and I got a glass of Hungarian wine (more on their wine program later). Both were great. For food, we were stumped a bit - that happens sometimes when you want everything. We ultimately decided on their burrata starter (with chili cruch, mandarin segments, and toasted bread), their Caesar (classic but with pretzel croutons for a German biergarten touch), and a special of the day - Chicken Vodka Spätzle (spätzle tossed in a vodka tomato cream sauce with crispy chicken cutlets and melted mozzarella). Everything was great. The spätzle special was so fun - a sort of German/Italian fusion that totally worked. Totally crave-able. The service was great, too. So it was just a lovely, comfortable, delicious meal. One I'd be happy to repeat. It was just such a relaxing environment, a really special place. On our way back out to our parked car, we noticed a different entrance to the building that said "bottle shop," so we obviously had to stop by. The staff member who worked at the wine shop (their sommelier) was really friendly and helpful, and we left with 9 bottles (we're stocking up a bit in case of tariff effects on European wines). She took quite a bit of time to ask us about what kinds of wines we liked and found a bag from their wine club that hadn't been picked up that would allow us to try 6 wines at a really reduced price (I also picked up a bottle of the wine I had with dinner and two more Hungarian wines since I've been interesting in wines from that country lately)! So - great vibes, great outdoor seating, great service, fun and delicious food, and a great beverage program? What's not to love? I look forward to returning. read more

First timer. Sat at the bar outside. The mushroom mousse was outstanding. Honestly one of the top 10 foods ive ever eaten. Amazing. The seafood risotto dish was also very good. My only Complaint would be that, on our most recent visit in early December, we waited almost 20 minutes before our waiter came over, and the noise level was pretty high, due to several children in nearly tables. The food selection is kind of limited, but what they do have they execute pretty well. You would think they have more gluten-free options than they do, but it is surprisingly limited. That's said. I think I had a gluten-free roll for a sandwich recently that was delicious. They might also have a gluten-free pretzel, but I can't remember. We've been here probably half a dozen times and sometimes the service is available and sometimes it's very slow and most recently, it was our server's first day and everything was kind of a mess on ordering and timing, but he came by and honest I'll give the guy a pass. Part of me wants to give it three stars because of what's above, but they also excel in some areas like they've got a really awesome wine selection and they have occasional gluten-free free drink options, which is pretty cool and unique for the area. The first thing you notice when you pull in is the art on the building and the quaint, welcoming feel of the place. There's live jazz music on Sunday that created a pleasant vibe. Got the Schnitzel Sandwich and the Spring Salad. Both were delicious and filling. I pair them with the Lambrusco Slushie, which you have to trybif you come. I get the impression that the Ice Cream Sandwich can rotate flavors, but man was this good! The bar only seats 4, but the bartender was sweet and attentive. Something about this place seems special the moment you drive into the parking lot. I knew the connection with Preserve in Annapolis which is my second favorite restaurant in Maryland (Little Donna's is no 1). We had the scallops, the pickles, the mushroom cheesesteak and i couldn't pass on a Rueben, now forever known as The Rueben! I didn't know this could be elevated this high. It was perfect. With his recommendation, I ordered the Burrata (September's version with the crunched chili and mandarins). A Caesar Salad with Salmon, Floral Lemonade Nonalcoholic Mocktail and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. All was YUM. I really want to love this place! It's quaint, charming & could be so much more so! Ambiance and food are actually great. Service though, is sooooo lacking... the quality of care in prepping and ingredients is noticeable. While the staff is friendly enough, they are clearly either or both - understaffed/not training well on how to deliver a good dining service. Felt Inattentive & lacking attention to detail (we sat for a good 10-15min before even getting offered water), coffee came with no sweetener or spoons on the table & got cold before we could ask for them. No check-ins when we finally did get our orders. Timing between starters and mains was pretty long. Drinks went empty for a bit in between. There wasn't any acknowledgement (at first), but when it got really obvious how long we were waiting, they finally did apologize for the extended waiting time. It took quite a bit of attention off of the actual experience (the design is so lovely and the food was quite good). It was a bit on the pricier side, which if there was a better level of service - it would almost make it worthwhile.... Or better for a more "special occasion", if they upped the care taken. Finally made it here. Managed to snag a reservation on the fly. Parking is tight but they now have more parking down the road and a free shuttle (but tip the driver!) Taking the shuttle got us either free pretzels or dessert. We opted for the pretzel. So so good. The mustard and the beer cheese. The pretzel was soft but so good. The kid got a grilled cheese which looked really good. I got the brie-wich because I will never turn down brie, apples and fig jam. Hubby got the chicken schnitzel with jaeger sauce. I cleared my plate. Hubby loved his but it was a big serving. Jaeger sauce is a mushroom gravy situation. We skipped dessert but they sounded awesome. Really nice beer and wine lists. Super fancy looking cocktails. Walked thru the garden waiting on the shuttle and a nice woman showed my kid around. Even gave him a ripe tomato. Definitely going back. We were just driving by when we noticed a sign for The Garten and decided to give it a try -- so glad we did! The vibe is absolutely charming and made us feel like we were dining in another country. It's such a cute spot with a unique atmosphere. The service was top notch -- attentive, friendly, and very accommodating, especially since we had our son with us. They seated us outside under a covered area that still felt breezy and stylish, so even though it was raining, we were able to enjoy our meal comfortably. We ordered the Burrata, a hot dog and fries for our son (which came in an impressive adult-sized portion!), and the tahini salad with salmon -- the salmon was perfectly cooked and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. Garten is falling short, even though This is a gem of a place in the middle of a neighborhood. Service was a bit of a miss this day. The grounds are beautifully done. Serval outdoor seating areas there's an outdoor space you can rent. Today we started with Smoked Salmon Potato Pancakes Chesapeake Smokehouse Salmon, Crispy Potato Cakes, Whipped Creme Fraiche, Dill. I had the braised pork belly with braised cabbage potato's with mustard glaze. The braised cabbage is really good but it's heavy on the sauce it's made with. The pan seared pork belly was tender and it comes in cubes which in my opinion needed a better crisp on the pork belly, and never needs to be doused in sauce, the beauty in pork belly shouldn't be hidden in sauce. but I still enjoyed it. My Husband ordered a sandwich Their Reuben special not only looked delicious but was yet again heavy handed on sauce in the sandwich . The marbled rye bread had a light toast to it and it was decent. No matter how often I try to order a cocktails lately They are a let down. I hope this changes. The drinks aren't cheap $15.00 and do not carry much on the delivery except they are pretty in appearance I ordered their special -The Garden Plot Love Grows Saison, 44 North Vodka, Lemon Infused Vermouth, Cucumber, Pineapple, Mint, Basil, Lemon. For $15 it tasted more like cucumber/lemon drink and not much of a vodka taste at all. I didn't order a second because it was not worth it. I'm finding Garten is falling short on the delivery of a cocktails lately. if a drink boasts both vermouth and vodka you should taste it, and I didn't. It was more like a mock-tail. Lately it's seeming that Garten is one of those places to stick with Wine or Beer only at least you know what you're getting. Overall it's a good experience and the Sunday jazz was enjoyable. But I will say skip the cocktails. To date only 1 time we ordered drinks that we could say the drinks we ordered were good. So skip the cocktails stick with beer or wine. read more

This is my second visit. The good: The food has improved, clean and pleasing spaces. attentive staff. The outdoor spaces are very nice and when the weather is good that is a great space to be in. The bad: Corkage fee is not priced appropriately, we had 3 wine drinkers and had to pay $15, in my experience that is very high. I would suggest a corkage fee of $3 a glass, that is reasonable and appropriate. Food still needs some work - There are some very creative dishes but the standard meals can use a bit of work to bring them up a level given pricing. Overall worth a try and definitely a unique experience. read more

Garten has a small menu with mix-and-match proteins and salads, but they are all very well prepared-felafel and schnitzel are terrific. Sausages are also great. Cocktails are on point. Brunch is also very good-go with the specials to enjoy partnerships with a local baker. read more

Both of us, loved this place! We arrived a little early and strolled thru the garden around 445 and saw their bee hive where they collect honey for some of their dishes and drinks. Love the peaceful atmosphere and it's only right around the corner from the house. We had the pretzel and a wedge salad for apps. Pretzel was garnished with the warm melted cheese on it, and the wedge was a different take having butternut squash on it. So tasty! We moved to dinner and enjoyed the chicken schnitzel and the pork shank. The cabbage on the pork shank was the best cabbage I've ever had. The schnitzel was a healthy size with 2 chicken breasts plus the citrus dressed salad. Filled up too much on our cocktails; we had a sweet German reisling, a glass of frose, and 2 kolches. Ladies from my book club came in on a cold Sunday and were treated to wine, cocktails, a bunch of shareable apps and the most out-of-this-world Nutella Biscoff mousse. It was a really wonderful time and I am so grateful to the team at Garten for taking care of the little details so we could all have a break after the stress of Thanksgiving. I have been anxious to get to Garten, and today was my first visit. I am a huge fan of Preserve, in downtown Annapolis, and Garten is the new venture by Michelle & Jeremy Hoffman. I took a friend for a special Sunday birthday lunch. At noon on Sunday, they serve from both the regular menu and a special brunch menu. We chose to eat inside because of the heat, but the patio is inviting and they have different kinds of seating inside as well, including regular tables and high tops. There were so many tasty possibilities that it was difficult to choose. We wanted to share an appetizer, so we tried a special: fried pickle dip! It was really yummy, with pickles, sour cream, and dill, served with nice soft pretzel rolls. Both of us ordered the pan seared scallops that came with a medley of vegetables. The scallops were perfect, and the vegetables (fresh zucchini, cherry tomatoes, and others) were in a pesto type sauce that was amazing. We shared a creme brulee for dessert, and it was an outstanding lunch. Our server, Spencer, was really helpful in answering our questions about ingredients and preparations. So the bottom line is to run, don't walk, to Garten. Stroll the herb garden in the back, and you can see where the yummy items on your table get their flavorful start. read more

Absolutely one of the best experiences I've had at a restaurant. I took my sister out for her birthday, and we made a reservation two weeks ago and added a note that it was to celebrate a birthday. We arrived at the restaurant early, and had the pleasure of sitting out at their open bar. They have an Absolutely incredible staff. We had the pleasure of meeting the manager, August, who is incredibly nice and accommodating. They even offered to pay for the cleaning of my overcoat that was stained, which I thought was incredibly classy, but unnecessary. We then went in for dinner and arrived at our table, which was in front of a wonderful fireplace and on the table was a beautiful birthday card signed by the entire staff. Talk about making people feel special. We then ordered appetizers and dinner. All I can say, is everyone needs to order the mushroom mousse. I would come back every day for that meal alone. We then ordered dinner and the lobster gnocchi and lamb meatballs were incredible. Now we come to desserts. I am a mousse snob, and their vegan chocolate mousse rivaled the best restaurants in NYC. I finally made it to Garten for a weekend lunch for a party of four and overall I really enjoyed the experience. We had a reservation in February at 2pm and the Garten was packed. Some people were even sitting out on the cute patio in the very cold weather. I definitely recommend making a reservation. While we were gathering with the intent to eat lunch we were pleasantly surprised that there was a brunch menu and we all ended up ordering brunch. I had an egg sandwich on a pretzel bun with some savory sausage and slightly spicy sauce and it was heavenly. For a sweet option, the french toast was looking amazing. Next time. With a packed house it was a little loud at our corner table but overall not too bad. There was a bit of a hiccup with the service but Garten made it right which we greatly appreciated. The fries were the best thing on the menu that I had drinks and price of everything was very expensive. $400 for 4 adults and 2 children. We go to a dye bar occasionally. And frankly, the food was as good and much cheaper. No plans to return. I had the fish and chips and it was crispy and flavorless. The wife had the seafood dish that was not good.
