This surgeon seriously delayed (two days) my mother's G.I. tube change causing her a real delay in her recovery and possibly loss of life at this time. He doesn't even seem to have an answering service where someone calls you back. I looked him up on the California Medical Board website and he had an issue with his medical license in New York. What a start! I'm a local truck driver so getting to an appointment 9-12= not easy. Oh well not their fault, took a sick day & showed up @11:50 5/2/25. He did a good job for my husband,an emergency surgery, was only 40 minutes. He was told to make a follow up appointment. My husband made an appointment and 4 days later when we showed up they had no record of him. We show an 8 minute phone call to his office when he made the appointment. My husband had questions but this particular Doctor does not do phone appointments or return calls. Guess he's too important. After he's released from him I really pray we never need his services again. read more

Dr Garg was the E.R. doc who took care of my 82-year-old mother who had a combo of Covid, appendicites and colon cancer. He treated her with great care and was a very good listener. He remembered important specifics even though I could only communicate by phone during the emergencies. He's a good and caring man and we are grateful he was there when we needed a really good doctor. Anyone who takes the time to write and complain about having to wait a long time for a doctor appointment is behaving like an entitled spoiled brat. If you don't like the wait, just don't return...and you're probably doing everyone a favor if you don't. read more

Dr Gaarg saved my life in the ER. Was very attentive and straight to the point. Doesn't sugar coat anything for you. Tells you what you need to know and does what is needed to help. The surgery performed was Bowel Resection. Everything he said that would happen during the surgery and recovering happened. He really knows his work! Update, After my last encounter along with the Insurance agent (triple line) this company has still failed to place the claim correctly. Till now March of 2018, I have received yet another 4 more ( Balance forward statements). I called the Insurance again today, to find out why it has not been paid, and they informed me, that the claim was now billed under my spouses name ( gain incorrectly). I have not idea how they can continue to make so many mistakes, I honestly believe it is being done intentionally, for they do not have new staff that is being trained, the current staff has been there for many years, doing the same thing. Needless to say, I will get more information tomorrow, once the insurance agent calls me back. read more

I wish there was the ability to give negative stars for Dr. Grag (and I use the word "doctor" skeptically with him). His first surgery on my daughter back in June 2016 was for colon cancer surgery. To make a VERY long story short he ignored a VERY large ovarian cyst that ended up being removed in January 2018 which released cancer cells and reignited my daugther's cancer. The way he performed his first operation on her I can only describe as "Butchery". To say he carved her up like a turkey would be a complement to the turkey. Then due to the cancer coming back in 2018 more surgery had to be performed in August 2018. He ended up performing two major surgeries in less than a week which led my daughter to have to spend the next 72 days in the hospital, most of that in a place called "Kindred Care". Just in case they are ever recommended, RUN just as fast as you can and RUN AWAY just like you should run away from Dr. Garg. My daughter is now in her last days of life, but I firmly believe she would be cancer free today without the bumbling ineptness of Dr. Garg. My family is in the process of filing complaints with the state medical board, which I would recommend for those of you who had this same sort of thing happen with you and Dr. Grag. Let me add one more thing that I think illustrates Dr. Grag very well. He bragged to us about how he only gets about 3-4 hours of sleep a night because of all his surgeries. The last day my daughter was in the hospital the wound care specialists asked him to come see her before she was released. He came and while he was looking at her wound his phone rang. He took the call then left the room and never came back. This reveals this man so called compassion for his patients. PLEASE STAY CLEAR OF DR. My mother has a scheduled 11:30 appointment for pre-op with Dr Garg. My mother and I attended promptly at 11:30 only to still be sitting in the waiting room which is now 12:57. The waiting room was full with very frustrated patients openly expressing the the over extended length of time they, as well, have been experiencing. There is an elderly couple who had a 10:30 appointment and have just been called now, which is 1:00. The doctor and scheduling staff MUST take into consideration the individual patients personal time. It is clear that they over book beyond imaginable. This is of poor taste, unprofessional and utter and blatant disregard for patients. If this is an indication of the type of medical care the doctor provides, he will soon be losing a great percentage of patients quickly! read more

I was referred to Dr Garg and am so grateful. He took one feel and said I still had the hernia. He performed surgery again, I am so happy to say I am pain free. This office has POOR communication with its patients. They charge you to fill out paperwork. They don't even look at the paperwork date to see when it has to be filled out by. Trying to get ahold of them to make a follow up appointment is a joke. Dr Vinod Garg is someone who has apparently been practicing medicine too long. His manners and patience to answer his patients questions are HORRIBLE. Pre surgery he acted like it was intolerable to ask any questions of him, like the patients concerns are not worthwhile. After waiting to see him for 30 minutes for a follow-up appointment, he literally spent 30 seconds in the exam room. Apparently too busy to be bothered by gasp! a patient! Just wanted to know how to treat a post-surgical wound and would have taken less than a minute, but he cut us off half through a sentence. What a jerk. I was taken to the San Antonio emergency room, a couples years ago because a abdominal pain. This doctor (which I do not choose) performed a exploratory abdominal surgery. A few months later, I noticed a diastasis groin up in my middle body section (a gap between the two sides of of the rectus muscle abdominis). Dr garg lies to my wife and I telling us that the problem go away in a few more months. Actually, I cant' perform any sit ups or anything involving my abs beacuse the gap grows more and more. I'm a Taekwondo black belt practitioner and I look so fit except my stomach that looks so big like I was drinking 2 beer six packs a day since I was a toddler. THE ONLY SOLUTION IS "COSMETIC SURGERY" WHICH COST A LOT OF MONEY and everything happens because he do not put enough attention at the moment of finishing the surgery he perform on me. read more

If i could give negative stars i would. my insurance provider referred me to Dr Garg. From the moment i met him, he seemed rushed and uninterested in my questions / concerns. I figured he's just busy and went through with my surgery. I WISH I WOULD'VE READ THESE REVIEWS BEFORE SURGERY :/ Dr Garg told me he was just going to make a small incision on the bottom of the inside belly button and did completely opposite. my scar is about 3 and a half inches long UNDER my belly button and CROOKED !!!! I was insecure about my umbilical hernia and was so happy to get it fixed and now i am even more insecure with this huge dark crooked scar. i am 3 months post surgery and am still in pain from the inside, i am constantly bloated & get super bad cramps along with gas. i have a friend who had hernia surgery more towards her groin area with a little to no visibility scar, no pains, no bloating and no stomach problems. hers was further down than mine and they still managed a small scar that you can't even see MINE WAS IN MY BELLY BUTTON. i am scarred for life and completely insecure and upset over seeing my stomach everyday in the mirror. i am looking for a new doctor to go over side affects and these painful problems i have 3 months later. i am convinced i was apart of a BOTCHED surgery ... im ruined for life :( read more

The wait is long so be prepared to wait But the part that really gets me is the insurance coordinator "kelly" she is beyond rude it took them 1 month to get back to me in regards to getting a surgery appointment. I left messages with no call backs. If she had problems with my insurance why didnt she contact me right away? I dont understand how she can call me and just start talking about how horrible it is to work with my insurance I've never had to deal with this issue before. She is a liar. The receptionist specifically apologized to me and told me the coordinator quit and I fell out of the system. That's all i wanted an explanation but kelly is crazy. She has no customer service skills and it seems like she likes to blame others for her wrong. Can not wait to get my follow up done. I am never ever coming here again. Dr. Garg is good. I had surgery on 2 hernias yesterday. The dr prescribed me Tylenol 3 even though I told him those don't help me. So I in tons of pain, I call his office and the dr tells me I need to bring him my medicine. Fine as if I don't have them, so now I'm sitting in his office for over 30 minutes in a packed office in pain and still waiting while other people just walk in get a prescription. If I could give 0 stars, I would. DON'T GET SURGERY FROM THIS SO CALLED SURGEON and their horrible office staff. Where do I start? Let's begin with the most important: the surgery. I was supposed to get laparoscopic double hernia surgery and a lymph node removed for a biopsy. When I woke, I was in extreme pain because he sliced me open, not laparoscopic. The doctor left without giving directions for the nurse so I was there an additional 4 hours, in extreme pain. I was not given a brace for hernia surgeries and THERE WAS NO DRESSING ON OPEN WOUNDS. Secondly, the pain medication he prescribed might as well been for a minor headache. I was told to go to emergency room if pain increased. If he would have actually stayed after the surgery, he would have known nothing was working. Third, it's been 3 weeks and they won't give me biopsy results. Nice! I get wait until my next appointment if I have cancer. Lastly, the office staff: pathetic. They were asked on numerous occasions to fax paperwork back to my work for my leave and failed in many occasions. Don't expect to be treated with dignity or respect while you are at they office...you are just a body with $. Expect to wait 2 hours for upon arriving to your appointment because the surgeon has to meet with a pharmaceutical rep. Priorities, right? I have had surgery before and was never mistreated and pushed away as I was with "Dr." GARG. I hope that this whole office examines the way they practice because you are dealing with people's lives. read more

This is an update, I had surgery it went off without a problem. Virtually no pain afterwards, some tenderness and soreness but almost nonexistent pain. Took pain meds twice and a couple of Tylenol. I walked 1/2 mile the following day to take my son to school, without much difficulty, thank you. I am pleased with my experience with Dr. Garg, he listened to my concerns developed a plan. He was polite and professional. The office was immaculate. The receptionist was polite, and gave clear direction. I was able to see him fairly quickly. read more

My sis in law had surgery last night and this dr never came down to discuss results or even to tell us she was out of surgery..So after several hours of worrying we went to the receptionist who informed us she was back in her room. We went upstairs to find her in horrible pain and Dr GARG nowhere to be found.. My bro in law left his number because the nurse was not allowed to discuss findings with him...As of now no return phone call from the Dr. and no visit from him at the hospital... So my sis in law is lying here in agony.. Zero compassion for his patients or their family..this is the 2nd surgery he has done on her and he was uncaring the first time too..unfortunately she was not given a choice of surgeons because it was somewhat of s Emergancy. Let me start off by saying that I had a very BAD EXPERIENCE! The receptionist are VERY RUDE and unprofessional. I had to call the office 4 times in one day. The first time I called I was left on hold for 11 minutes and 7 seconds (I know the exact time because I took a screenshot before I hung up). I called right back and someone picked up the phone and hung up without saying anything. I called right back after that and was placed on hold again for 14 minutes and 2 seconds without anyone coming back on the line to check on me or give me an update on why I was on hold so long. I called back and waited another 7 minutes plus to finally get some answers. I had to give to give my social security number to one of the reps on more than one occasion when calling in because they could find my paperwork. I also had one of the reps talk over me on top of giving me false information. Once arriving to my appointment I waited over an hour and 1/2. When walking to the counter to see how long it was going to take the receptionist said I still had 4 people ahead of me so I finally left. When looking online I also saw a lot of bad reviews about the doctor and his reps. I will not be going back to Vinod K. Garg, M.D. office.
