Great local plant shop with large selection of indoor and outdoor plants that change seasonally (e.g. they sell Christmas trees at the Holidays, veggie starts in the spring) somehow fitting it all in the relatively small space they have. The staff are really helpful with questions and seem knowledgeable, but also let you wander around unaccosted. The plants look really healthy and are locally grown I'm told. Prices are a little higher than the big box stores but here you get quality and customer service. read more

I am a little bit surprised I haven't written a review for Gardensphere. I was here recently with Steve as we are having troubles growing plants in our soil at home . We purchased a soil testing kit which is yet to be determined on what our results are but once we get a chance we will utilize it and see what needs to be done. We have been here several times in the past and always liked their plant selection and statuary and other ornaments you can use for your yard. They have some very nice windchimes in which we want to get sometime... ones with a deep resonating sound and they do have ones here that look to be of good quality! I don't know if they still do it and I am thinking if memory serves you can chicks here in the Spring. Super cute little chickens! We'd love to have some but aren't quite ready to take on more pets but perhaps someday! read more

I love the gardensphere for unique plants that they carry. Went the weekend before Thanksgiving and the store is stocked with Christmas trees, wreaths, Thanksgiving cactus, poinsettia and fresh cut evergreen swatches. I was looking for a white, pink or peach poinsettia and Thanksgiving cactus. I found a beautiful white cactus and a peach/orange poinsettia. Beautiful place! I was looking for some new babies to add to the house. There are many to choose from and sectioned off very well. The staff is friendly, with and a cute addition is their kitty who is ever so sweet. Prices are good with many other things you will need such as soil, moister meters, stickers, misters, and so much more! Parking is right up front with street parking available too. I was happy to find the indoor plants (rubber plant, zz plant, peperomia) I was looking for but the selection was limited. The indoor shopping space was limited so they didn't have taller items. Some of the staff was very helpful, but there was some weird knowledge gaps amongst them. Only ONE person at the time knew much about indoor plants. this shop does have an indoor plant section. the variety is decent but since they also sell other items and outdoor plants, it's not an entirely dedicated indoor/succulent shop. they have this super cute friendly cat, Thomas apparently. I've been here twice now, last spring and yesterday. The employees are helpful and asked if I needed help or had any questions, which I did. They have a lot of indoor plants to select from as well as some potted spring bulbs which I've bought before as a gift to a friend. I don't normally like to give bad reviews for locally owned shops, but I just want to warn others. I really wonder how this place has 5 stars. The plants here are over priced and poorly cared for. Most, if not all, have some kind of pest, root rot, or problem related to lighting/watering. If you're going to have a high price tag for plants, they should be well cared for and have minimal issues. There's no organization to the plants and the layout makes no sense to me. If you're willing to pay good money for certain plants, I would skip this place and check Facebook/other nurseries. I purchased a monstera and a fiddle leaf fig from here when I didn't know better. I certainly didn't know what to look for at the time and the people who work here weren't exactly helpful. They were my first and (only) plants at the time. And both had fungus gnats. Thankfully monsteras are hardy. My FLF is doing a lot better considering the condition it was in and looks better now than when I first got it. I've learned a lot from these first two plants and I hope I can save others from all the rehab work. If you're looking for FLF's, monsteras, or any popular plant and are working with a budget, I would check places like Fred Meyer, Home Depot, lowes, Costco, Safeway, etc. They'll be cheaper and still about the same level/quality as the ones here. Maybe even little to no rehab work. Make sure you quarantine your plants no matter who you purchase from, but esp from here or from large chain stores. read more

I recently moved back to Tacoma after being gone for 40 years. The house I am renting has had no yard upkeep for a very long time so when I got here last summer I pretty much had to take everything back to bare beds. The rockery was so overgrown with Ivy you couldn't even see the rocks. There is a ground cover that I left and now it is blooking and I could not remember what it was. I took a leaf and flower into Gardenspere and of course they identified it immediately and even ordered some more. I then took a look around. They have a very large variety of plants, shrubs and trees and the best part is they are VERY reasonable in their prices. I was surprised, thinking that they would be pricey being a smaller "boutique" nursery. They have lots of parking and very helpful people working there. read more

Travis and his coworker were so intelligent and helpful, not to mention kind as ever. They went above and beyond to help I.D. a succulent for me and offered to pot my plants that I purchased so that I didn't have to fuss with it at home. Also Thomas the cat was such a doll and a delight to see and give pets to. I wish I had discovered this place sooner. I can't wait until spring time rolls around to see what darlings they get in! I have gone to Garden Sphere many times since they have opened. I always find the staff to be knowledgeable and helpful. Sadly, recently my daughter passed away and I wanted to have something at her service that we could take home and plant in her memory. I called ahead to explain what I was looking for so I wouldn't have to do it upon arrival. I spoke with Audra. She was also working when I went to the nursery. She was amazing. I used to get my baby chicks from what ever store I was near when the time was right. One year 2 of the 3 chicks I bought at Gig Harbor Wilco were roosters. I let them know and quite frankly the employee was rude. Since then I have gotten all of my chicks at Gardenspher. Not a rooster in the bunch. This morning the owner recognized me as the customer looking for Green Queen chicks scheduled for delivery today. I just got my first house, and am looking to start up a pepper garden to make my own homemade salsa, so I was looking for a garden store to give my business to. I came across Gardensphere on google and decided to give it a shot as I'd rather pay a little extra to help out a local business than save a few cents and go to a Fred Meyers or any store of that nature, and I am glad that I did. I am brand new to this kind of stuff, and have been e-mailing an employee of Gardensphere named Travis. He is SOOOO helpful! He has taken plenty of time out of his day to explain everything in detail to me to make sure that I am good to go. I finally was able to stop into the store earlier today to pickup some seeds. The store is beautifully setup. As I was waiting in line, I overheard the Gardensphere employee really taking his time with every single customer which is really refreshing in this day of age, not only answering the customers questions, but giving additional information that the customer didn't ask for just to make sure that they were fully informed. I got to the front counter and asked if his name was Travis, and sure enough, it was him! Travis deserves a raise! And they definitely have a repeat customer in me. read more

However, one time when was there I observed staff speaking to a developmentally disabled worker/helper in a way that seemed really unkind and unprofessional. I emailed them asking if they carried a product, and they not only responded via email saying that they did and could order more to get my goal, but walked me through the best options given our goal (hedge height for privacy). I will fully agree with Sarah's review. These guys are just awesome! You get true personal, conversational advice and service. They are so passionate about what they do and eager to help out, even if you are a rank beginner (which I was when I started going here). Yeah, their prices are 10 - 15% higher than the "box stores", but the quality and service fully make up for the slightly higher prices. I prefer to support the "little guys". I would also add that their shop is ALWAYS neat, cozy, and "season appropriate". I buy as much garden stuff here as I can. read more

I came here for the first time and I absolutely loved it. They have great plants for indoors and the customer service was great. They helped me pick out the perfect fertilizer and soil for my plants, and they also plant your plants for you if you're not comfortable doing it yourself, which I thought was great. I've been coming to GardenSphere for the last 3 years; ever since we moved into the area. Because of them, our garden gets better and better each year! Very knowledge staff who always takes the time to answer all of my questions; even when they are busy. They also sell baby chicks and all the stuff to go with them! I had a chance to stop by on my lunch break this last Thursday and noticed something pretty cool. They have an older woman who I believe has a disability working in the shop. She was with her helper when I came in and was putting price tags on plants. The GardenSphere staff was interacting with her and making her laugh. It was pretty awesome to see.
