The man behind the counter was complaining to a coworker because the soil he received from Walrath wasn't what he ordered and he was worried it would contaminate his garden with chemicals. I should have heeded overhearing his warning! THEN, when I asked about bindweed the sales associate said "Oh yeah that soil", pointing to a large pile of fill, "is full of bindweed, we're practically dumping it on people." Ordered 13 cubic yards of Silver Springs compost because it is certified to be fully composted. I didn't order it blended with their top soil as they suggested to prevent contamination. When the delivery truck dumped a whole truck load of fill dirt instead of the compost i ordered I called them immediately. Had i not corrected them they would have left me with the topsoil. So yes they then brought me the compost I ordered and left the huge pile of dumped soil "for free". As the dumped topsoil began to wash down with the rain it is completely full of garbage, Im talking tons of plastic and broken glass. If I was associated with Silver Springs i would be concerned this practice could tarnish their name as well! On the phone they said they don't think theres anything they can do. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

I am beyond disappointed with Purdy Topsoil & Gravel; They…read morecame highly recommended and so I placed a call and explained I needed good soil for my raised beds vegetable gardens, what do you have/recommend? I was told that with tax, a yard of their very good garden soil would be approximately $29. Ok, I will be in next week. After arriving and talking with staff, the clerk said to me that this is for flower beds, correct? No, it is for food for my family fir vegetables. She then told me that the soil I was going to purchase would not support food growth... I was then told: "We have our compost blend and we also mix our compost with steer manure compost and fish compost and it is twice the price." I then decided to buy two yards. The next morning I was surprised to find that my son had filled my garden beds for me, but there is all kinds if 'stuff' in the dirt! I easily gathered a 1/2 baggie of pieces of plastic in clear, white, blue, black, red, another blue,... along with pieces of painted metal i. Blue, red, black, green, dark blue, bright blue, white, etc... -along with treated 'Beauty Bark'... I took the baggie half filled with the debris and my receipt... The Manager was not in and would call- and THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME BACK MY RECEIPT! They also kept the baggie, which I wanted them to see as unfortunately I can easily gather more. I was then informed by the two women working behind the counter that they get their compost from the Pierce County Dump! Excuse Me?! When an employee informs me that WE make OUR with premium compost, OUR steer manure compost, and OUR fish compost; I don not get the impression that you receive it from the Pierce County Landfill!!?? I specifically asked and was given an answer of: WE make OUR with OUR WE MAKE... Had I been properly informed of the compost origins, I would absolutely NOT have purchased ANY product originating from ANY Landfill project. Today marks two weeks since I drove there again, and asked to speak to the Manager. I called yet again today, Monday June 10, 2024 and wouldn't ya know, the manager just stepped out and will call me back.
