This is a roastery, so you're getting fresh roasted beans from some of the most notable coffee regions in the country. It is awesome. I purchased a bag of Sumatra dark roast and a big bottle of chai concentrate. My partner said the chai is delicious. I've been to Salvation many times, and it used to be one of my top-recommended coffee shops in Burlington, NC. Unfortunately, not anymore. Customer service during my recent visits has been disappointing. The baristas often made me feel like an inconvenience rather than a customer. While there was one occasion when the person at the register was kind and welcoming. My most recent visit was the day after Christmas when I met up with my siblings, and the experience was especially unpleasant. The atmosphere was unwelcoming, customer service was poor, and the coffee itself was underwhelming. The espresso in my latte was barely noticeable. Worst of all, the music was extremely loud and filled with constant profanity, to the point that we felt uncomfortable staying inside and had to leave to meet outside instead. I hope this review is not taken in the wrong way, but I genuinely used to enjoy Salvation Coffee, but the decline in service, atmosphere, and overall experience has been noticeable and disappointing.

So I was delighted to find this little cafe/ bookshop (The Book Cellar) which even has a tiny garden as well where you can get a cuppa tea, browse the books, sit down and maybe just get some writing done or just collect your thoughts. Folks were very friendly and I had no problems here whatsoever. It's small, very cozy but for little Abingdon, it's just right. I was so happy to find this corner of Abingdon. I may come back to Abingdon in the future for other workshops and if I do, I sure hope this little shop and cafe are still here.

They lead to a loft, overlooking Footloggers, where you can relax in a wing back chair or get some work done at a table near a window. The barista was friendly and made a respectable cortado.
