When I brought the issue to their attention, I was told to come back in two days. When I returned, the coats were still hanging on the same rack where they had been left two days earlier, still smelling terrible. It was obvious they had never even been sent out for re-cleaning. Over the next week and a half, I repeatedly called and was told they needed more time. Eventually, the coats were returned and the odor was finally gone. However, when I asked for a discount or some form of compensation for the inconvenience and the fact that they had caused the problem in the first place, the owner, Albert, simply insisted that "they got the smell out." When I pointed out that the coats were not dropped off smelling that way and that the problem was created by their service, he refused to take responsibility. The best he offered was a discount on a future service. After five years as a loyal customer, that was the extent of their customer service. Mistakes happen. What matters is how a business responds when they do. In this case, there was poor communication, a lack of accountability, and no effort to make things right. I won't be returning, and based on my experience, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Unfortunately, my experience this time was completely different. I brought in a simple double layered dress that only needed to be hemmed and was quoted $140, more than the dress itself! I was told that because it had two layers, it was essentially like "hemming two dresses." At $70 a layer, I guess every layer counts. I then asked about simply taking in the waist of a pair of jeans. I was initially quoted $25, but after looking at them again, I was told there was suddenly "a lot more work" involved and that I had been quoted incorrectly. At that point, I took both items and left. I went to another alterations shop and was quoted under $100 for BOTH the dress and the jeans. It seems management may have changed since my last visit, which is unfortunate because I was previously very happy with their work. Hopefully the pricing doesn't continue in this direction, because $140 to hem a simple dress is pretty hard to justify.

The tailor I have always used was still working here, but it appears the business is now under new management. I was quoted $180 to hem a double-lined dress and $210 for a dress with three layers. That is an enormous increase from what I have paid for essentially the same service over the years. I politely declined and took my dresses to another dry cleaner up the street (still in Hoboken). They charged me $85 for the double-lined dress and $125 for the three-layer dress - which was much more in line with what I have historically paid. I completely understand that prices increase and that businesses have to adjust their pricing, but these prices felt excessive, especially given my long history as a customer and the fact that I was able to get the exact same alterations done elsewhere for significantly less. Very disappointing to see such a drastic change at a place I had trusted for years. I will not be coming back.

My only beef is that over time, the whites in my laundry have gone dingy, suggesting they have some laundry people on staff who aren't separating the lights from darks. They are also not using whites brighteners, like OxyClean, which i now give them myself with instructions. While this has been frustrating, I could never dock Apple a star as they are truly the kindest people around. Also, they send their laundry out to a service, so I suggested to them that they maybe find a more pro partner. But it's no biggie. I'll just keep giving them my own OxyClean pods until things change. Grateful that they are in the neighborhood!

Since I had a couple of scarves and heavy coats, it would have been such a hassle to have to carry them into a storefront. So the fact that Coastal Cleaners picks up and delivers was such a godsend. I scheduled for a Thursday before a holiday weekend and didn't have a garment bag large enough since I had just moved in. I gave them a call to see how to handle this. They delivered a garment bag the next day, which was awesome. I left the clothes with my doorman and at the beginning of the next week, the clothes were done and delivered back to me. Super convenient and reliable. Everything looks great and I can finally check this task off my to-do list. Definitely recommend!

I spoke with the owner 4 times about my past order, which he kept promising would be taken care of. The service is pretty quick, a week or less. Happy to recommend them, really I'd say 4-1/2 stars and would go to 5 stars if the silk shirt dry cleaning was more in line with other cleaners.
