Robert Young Winery started off promising with welcome drinks and being seated, but that's where…read morethe hospitality ended. I don't usually post reviews but this experience compelled me to do so. We were explicitly told to be patient and that someone would get to us. Nearly 50 minutes later, not a single host or server had checked on us--no update, no acknowledgment, nothing. The winery was not packed: maybe half a dozen groups total, with several empty tables visible. There was simply no excuse for the complete lack of service. At one point, my companion attempted to make eye contact with a female host, only to be blatantly ignored. It was uncomfortable and frankly disrespectful. That said, I do acknowledge that one host eventually reached out to recognize their shortcomings, which I appreciated. I can also honestly say the place itself is lovely and the ambiance is very nice. I've visited wineries extensively--both internationally (Australia and New Zealand) and locally--and I have never experienced hospitality this poor. Wine tasting is as much about service as it is about the wine, and this was a masterclass in how not to treat guests. This review is coming from a place of tough love. The setting has real potential, but the service experience needs serious attention.

The winery is on top of a hill, so the patio has gorgeous views of the Alexander Valley. We had a preset tasting of their Chardonnay, Merlot and Cab. They were kind enough to offer a tasting of one other wine of our choosing. We chose the melon de bourgogne. What a fun, bright wine. We really enjoyed it and brought home a bottle! They're a direct to consumer winery so we will have to come back for more wine next time!

We chose to drop in Marine Layer Wines. The tasting room is located in a very nice area in beautiful downtown Healdsburg across Healdsburg square. Parking is accessible all around the street and Healdsburg square. The modern decor was beautiful and bright. There were plenty of tables and couches to accommodate all different size parties. The vibe was inviting and family friendly. There was a cozy fireplace in the front as well. We ordered a glass of Lyra Pinot Noir and a glass of Aries Chardonnay. My Pinot Noir was smooth while the wifey's Chardonnay was crisp and refreshing. The wine was great quality. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Marine Layer Wines. The staff was nice and helpful. We appreciated the family friendly environment. It was nice to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Christmas, by relaxing with a nice glass of wine.

She poured us a glass rose and was chatting with us for a little. The atmosphere and hospitality were great. We sat outside underneath the grapevines. It was a great way to end the day.

***3.5 Stars***…read more Beautiful grounds with a gorgeous tasting room! Medlock Ames definitely impresses when it comes to their estate. Their tasting room is located right in the heart of Alexander Valley and is surrounded by lush and vibrant gardens. They have an adorable patio space with great views of both their gardens and vineyards. Their indoor tasting room is so hip and chic. It features a center tasting bar that is surrounded by beautiful artwork and a backwall that showcases their wine cellar. My friend and I came here for a tasting and we had a very pleasant time. Laura was our host and she was really sweet and very knowledgeable about the wines that she poured. She told us about the history of the winery and how it began. It was neat to learn that Medlock Ames was started by two college buddies while they went to school in NYC. Most of their grapes from their wines are sourced from their own vineyards in Bell Mountain. The majority of the wines that are produced here are small lot and limited production. Tastings are $45 and available by reservation only. Although I enjoyed the atmosphere here, I wasn't blown away by any of their wines. My friend is a big fan of their sauvignon blanc and I'll admit that it's tasty and probably their signature wine. It was odd that it wasn't featured on their tasting list, but Laura was nice enough to pour it for us anyways. I'm not usually a fan of merlot, but I actually enjoyed their Jefferson Clone Merlot the best out of all the wines that we tried. I just felt that wines were overpriced for the quality, but it could have just been that my palate didn't align with these particular wines. Despite this, I would still come back again to try more of their wines. Hopefully, I'll find something that I truly like here in the future.
