Car in for repairs. Told it would take 2 weeks. Turned into 5 weeks. No communication along the way. Extremely disappointing.

I made an appointment 9-1-25 to have a belt replaced 9-5-25 only to arrive and no belt was ordered to do the work. Kyle told me the female I was dealing with was out sick and she would call me next week. All week NO CALL. By the end of the week on the 12th I called . The man who answered the phone knew nothing about it. He told me someone would call me after the weekend next week. Trisha leaves me a message 9-15-25 this morning that the belt and key replacement Kyle ordered has been there since the 8th and to call her back to schedule an appointment when I get the message. I call back in the afternoon. Kathy answers and informs me Trish is out to lunch and will call me back. I explain to Kathy this has been going on since the 1st trying to get the belt replaced. Kathy promises me she will have Trisha call me when she gets in. I wait all afternoon with no call. Finally I'm talking to Trisha after calling before they close. Trisha tells me I have an appointment tomorrow morning. Nobody ever called me to tell me they made the appointment. I already explained to Kyle over a week ago I work in the middle parts of the week and Fridays work. So I ask Trish when we're they going to even tell me about tomorrow's appointment. I was last told by Kathy she was going to have Trisha call me when she gets back from lunch. Throughout parts of the conversation Trisha was cackling and didn't seem to like any of it was a big deal. So after all of this time I wasted on waiting to get the belt replaced I told Trisha they could send the belt and key back. I don't really feel like anyone was serious about the work. Garber has always been the best but staffing must have changed. This is the worst the communication has ever been here. read more

I am very disappointed in the service here. I had purchased a vehicle from them last year, had an accident in which my car was totaled. My insurance company paid the balance and I have proof that they did and even when they cashed the check. I forwarded this information to my sales rep, same as last year but was actually great then, and he still claims I owe money on the car. He said I owed only $3K less then when I purchased it! I had the car for a year so that isn't even possible! They have stalled on doing anything to help me and certainly do not act like they want me to buy another car there. I just want to advice everyone to be careful when they go here. I went to the used car lot because I've been building my credit like most people my age. I allowed them to run my credit and asked them to only run it once. What ended up happening is they ran my credit 13 times, needless to say my credit score plunged. When I asked them to fix the issue, they responded with we cannot see your records from that time so we don't know why we ran it all those times; yet they could find my initial inquiry. Anyways just an advisory to those out there; don't be naïve and trust these salesmen. Dropped my car off for a bumper replacement due to an animal incident. Was told all the parts were easy to go and would take two days to complete the repair. Car ended up being there for almost two weeks and I had not received any calls to notify me of a delay. When I went to pick up the car after the repair was complete, the new bumper looked, and still looks terrible. The paint job looks like it was a beginner practicing his skills. I went to the Pre-owned Dealership a few weeks ago. The Salesman I spoke to was herb, which according to his colleagues was the best salesman in the dealership. This was not my experience, I walked into the dealership looking to look at a truck that had been sitting on the lot for over 3 months. Instead of showing me the truck I had set up an appointment they decided to show me 3 different trucks all with higher miles and worse condition. Magically after waiting for over an hour they found the truck I had come to see. After taking the truck for a test drive they were extremely pushy and unpleasant. After Saying that we were interested and willing to buy the truck. Three other associates became involved without introducing themselves or even explaining what they were doing. From all of my other experiences this dealership seemed to check every box for the stereotypes of a SLEAZY SALESMAN. Telling me information that I knew was incorrect and giving the wrong impression of the Truck. I ended up walking away. And I am very Happy I did. However the dealership has continued to go out of their way to call and email me multiple times a day for the past multiple weeks even after saying I was no longer interested. Overall my advice is to avoid this dealership. Some of the false statements -Telling me 15 to 20% tint was legal -Telling me the truck Carfax were incorrect and actually the was a single owner instead of a two owner truck - Attempting to buyout my lease without my permission or knowledge -And much more Don't waste your time unless you want to be yanked around read more

Before I get into my review I will say that Garber had excellent customer service, I was even provided with a free rental after my coverage expired. Great customer service did not compensate for the poor quality of work performed. I would never take my car to a Garber Body Shop again, I recommend you avoid them as well after reading this review and performing independent research. This all started at the beginning of September. I was rear-ended at a high rate of speed that causing my car to rear-end another car. I was initially told that I would have my car back within 15 business days (deadline kept getting pushed back), Garber didn't attempt delivery until about the second week of October. Garber attempted delivery ~3 times throughout October and the beginning of November before I finally accepted the car. This is due to the issues listed below, some of which were never resolved. Garber had multiple attempts to fix the outstanding issues, the issues Garber was unable to be corrected will be fixed by a 3rd party shop. The first time they attempted delivery the repairs were so poor that I nearly got sick. Here is a list of all of the issues that I had (many resolved). It's clear from the issues below that even a basic checklist was not followed: -didn't retint broken glass -door not correctly aligned/did not shut correctly. -missing/incorrect body pins caused loose parts -Ripped trunk carpet not replaced -Car was dirty from sanding (Attempted detailing, car was still dirty). -Poor paint finish match. Hard stop line between the front and rear door. This should have been blended better. This matching issue was eventually resolved. -Broken trunk latch cable. -Rear glass trim not correctly installed. -Bad vibration (never fixed). -excessive orange peel in paint (attempted to fix, still outstanding). -above average dirt specs in paint. I feel like Garber mislead me as various times throughout the repair process. The biggest issue that I had is when they told me the vibration was likely due to uneven tire wear. I installed new tires (mount, balanced, aligned) and the issue did not go away, Garber was unable to help me any further. I have trouble believing that Garber attempted to inspect the car like they said they did. When I took the car to the OEM dealer they were able to diagnose the vibration as a bent driveshaft. It was clear that it was bent since there was missing paint (~2.5" strip) on both the driveshaft and underbody of the car, meaning that they likely never took the time to inspect. If it was not for the research I did and consultations with other body shops I would have never been able to point out all of the issues that I did with my car. I would have been stuck with some of the issues that Garber tried to "brush off". Unless you are an expert, or want to go to great lengths to ensure proper repair, I would avoid Garber Body Shop at all costs. Here are some other time I felt like I was being slightly mislead: -I was told they replaced pins that were already missing before my car was in the shop since they "never removed the panel". It was clear they removed the panel because there was fresh, clean, and tacky glue holding part of the panel on. -I was told the amount of orange peel I has was normal. The orange peel was excessive and not normal. It was not close to matching the finish. -I was initially told that the bad paint match was normal for a car "this old" I look forward to a reply from Garber if any. I hope they acknowledge that they need to take steps to improve their repair process and deliver cars with a higher standard of quality. Garber has the potential to become a better body shop if they implement checklists, improve their repair process efficiency, and become more reasonable with their estimated timelines. read more

First off I wanted everyone to know I made a yelp account just to leave a review of how awful my experience was here. I have had a new truck on lease with a previous dealer, I recently have moved to the midland area and needed some minor fixes done to my wheels and brakes. The customer service here is terrible. At the service center I was helped by a gentleman that didn't once ask me how he could help, and acted even somewhat interested in assisting me. They're very disconnected as I see someone else has mentioned before in a previous review. I don't suggest you go here when they're other amazing Chevy dealerships not far from this area. Came quite a ways in to Garber to buy a new car. Sales Guy acted so disinterested that I had to prompt him to look on line for cars in their inventory. I was dressed nice, armed with an 800+ credit score, polite and well-spoken, and ready to buy with a $17,000 budget. Within a couple minutes of repetitively asking him to look at his inventory, I felt like I was bothering him, thanked him for his time and left. He never offered suggestions, price points, no enthusiasm to sell to me. I felt like I was imposing on his time. I went down the road to Serra. What a difference! I was welcomed when I walked in by a manager who got me to a sales person immediately, the sales person respected my budget, found me what I was looking for, no hard sale, and thoroughly knowledgeable. I bought a $17,000 one year-old car that fit all my wants: heated seats, remote start, low miles, certified. I'll buy from Serra again without hesitation and have shared my buying experience with many people in Central/Mid-Michigan area. read more

My father's car battery died at a gas station in Midland while we were traveling to Mt. Pleasant. Not knowing whether it was the battery or something wrong with the ignition, we called Gerber Chevrolet just to ask them what they thought the issue might be. They quickly sent out their courtesy driver to give us a jump free of charge. We then drove our car to their service center and they replaced the battery quick and didn't charge and arm and a leg. They were even nice enough to drive us to and from Dow Gardens so we didn't have to wait in their lobby while they worked on the car. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and speedy. They could have easily took advantage of some stranded travelers, but they didn't. We really appreciated all of their help on what could have been a stressful situation. read more

I shopped around, looking for the best deal on a used vehicle after my last vehicle was totaled. Checked every sight available on-line: KBB, Edmunds, Cars.com, Repairpals, etc etc. trying to find the most dependable vehicle to buy. Had a very bad experience with a dealership in Grand Blanc, bought a vehicle and the engine seized in 11 days, took me weeks to get my money back. Should have known right from the start that Garber what going to be the best place to go. I am done "shopping around" and will not bother again for my next car. Will give Brent a call and tell him what I'm looking for and I have no doubt that the perfect vehicle for me will come from Garber. Any of their stores offer the best of the best! read more

They use trickery type sales techniques to sell cars, are nice to your face, but watch out, they will hit your wallet without a bit of remorse. Felt every question I had was spontaneously answered without feeling like I was was inept. The service was timely. Reasonably priced. I took my Volt in 6/15 for a recall & was told it would take 2 days I also told them to repair a slow leak in one of the tires. After 2 days I was told nothing was done - parts had to be ordered (don't you think they would have had the parts there knowing I was bringing it in for the recall?) also, they said nothing was wrong with the tire (even though I've had to put air in it everyday) They said parts would take 2 wks & they would notify me (and also fix the tire the next time). No calls - I called them 8/10 & was told to bring the car in 8/18 for 2 days. I left the car there @ 8 a.m. 8/18 and reminded them about the tire & asked they change the oil also as GM/OnStar sent me an email the oil needed changed. No calls or notification of any kind. I called 8/20 in the afternoon to see if my car was done, mechanic called me back 1/2 hr. later to say the rear axle was on the ground, it was a big job & would require at least 1 more day & he would call when done (I asked if the tire had been fixed - he said yes - I asked if the oil was changed - he said he'd write it down & would have it done) That was Thursday - Monday 8/24 11:30 a.m. I called & asked for a manager, because I was pissed, got voicemail - left a message & got no return call so called again 2:08 p.m. angrily telling the receptionist just how I felt. She took my information & said she would have someone call me. Sixteen mins later someone called & tried to tell me my car had been ready since the last Thursday (8/20) and that he had left me a message - I didn't get any text or voicemail so I'm pretty sure he was lying (my phone works great) I told him I did talk to someone Thursday & they told me they needed 1 more day & would call when the car was done. I went to pick up my car - had to wait a very long time for them to get me a copy of the paperwork, was charged $14.00 I asked if that was for the oil (I expected to pay more) and the man said yeah. I was told the tire was unable to be repaired - that I needed a new tire. (Not a biggie as we were planning on getting new tires before winter, still not happy that the mechanic lied to me and said it was fixed) When I went outside to drive home, someone was putting air into the tires (like I said - needs air everyday) I got into the car & it reeked of shop - grease/exhaust fumes - really bad, like all the windows open for 3 days bad (even febreeze didn't entirely take the smell away). My husband checked the oil when I got home & says they did not put in oil - since he used to be a mechanic I believe him, also the car computer shows oil life @ 44%. In the 3 years I've had my Volt, which I bought there, I always received excellent service with text updates all the while they worked on anything until this past June. I don't know what has changed there, but I will never buy another vehicle there or take my car there. One star is one too many in my opinion! read more

They are currently attempting to swindle my grandmother on a service repair in attempts to purchase her Cadillac from her for a much lower rate. After confirming the repair required, we found that they are charging her $1,700 more than quoted at another repair provider. On top of that, they are trying to pressure her into selling the vehicle to them for $2000 (when it is actually worth closer to $5000) and lease a brand new vehicle from them instead. Terrible way to treat any customer, let alone a 74 year old widow who has little knowledge of automobiles. Beware of the high pressure sales tactics and shady repair quotes at this business. read more

We purchased the car from you (2008 Equinox LTZ), and up to this point we have been happy with your service. After this experience we will be looking to other dealerships for future purchases and service. We brought the equinox in for the GM recommended 100K tuneup and I had to explain to your service department what the recommended 100K tune package entailed according to literature from when we purchased the car brand new. First off we put down my number for contact and they kept trying to call her, they didn't look at the contact number note just the purchaser number on file. Then they had no idea that the transmission and AWD differential fluids needed to be changed under the tuneup recommendation, or the serpentine belt (original) because it still "looked" good. The belt had 97K on it, change it. The cars computer was showing and EGR valve error code and should be replaced. They quoted me $600 for the valve plus 2 hours labor. The part is $90 direct from GM to the public, which means its cheaper for you. I don't think a 600+% mark up is appropriate. Then two hours labor, the part is right in front and on top of the engine, it take 10min to replace. When I told your staff I know the price of the parts and had the web page open in front of he he scrambled to change it because he knew he was caught. He then said he would call me back with a better price and never did. I had to call back to get the quote and authorize the work. Then when we picked it up on the paper work it said they couldn't remove #2 spark plug without possible damage and they needed owners authorization to do so. They never called to get it so I now have to take it to another shop to have one spark plug replaced (which we paid for and didn't get). Then finally we dropped it off at 8am Tuesday morning, they said it would only take a few hours. No problem I told them we won't be able to pick it up until 8am Thursday morning. They didn't start it until after 8am Thursday, it wasn't done till 5pm Thursday. Luckily I was able to get my father-in-law to help me pick it up because my wife works afternoons (hence MORNING DROP OFF AND PICK UP). I will not recommend your service shop to any one any more, and it this is any indication of how your business is now being run I will not even think of buying ANYTHING from you again. read more
