I wish I would have taken far more pictures of the 'before' situation. The home was a custom build in 1984 and, of course, nothing was standard. I hadn't taken pictures because I was positive it wouldn't be possible. For 40 years, the previous owners had dealt with manually opening/closing the door. Our garage door stopped working yesterday and after doing an initial analysis, I figured out that it was the spring. I found what I thought was a reputable garage door company on Google and requested an appointment -- the tech comes out to look at the garage door and confirmed what the issue was and then provides a quote that was way above what I was expecting. After waffling for a bit, he brings the price down by about $300, but still more than I was willing to pay. I call another company that I found on Google and 10 min later the same tech calls me back saying the office told him to get a hold of me. What seemed like 2 different companies were going through the same tech -- definitely something fishy going on. So I set up another appointment with yet another company that I found on Yelp this time. After reading some reviews of the company, I decide to cancel the appointment and look further. Thankfully, I found Garage Tech. All of the reviews were 5-star and I see why. The initial consult with Amber over the phone was excellent. After I described the problem, she was able to diagnose the issue and even named the exact manufacturer of the spring that we had. She explained what had to be done and gave me an up front quote for the job -- which was LESS THAN HALF as much as the quote from the first company. I scheduled an appointment for 2 days later, but Amber calls back 5 min later and fit me in the same day. James came out on time and got the job done in under an hour. Overall a great experience. Two years ago I couldn't afford to replace both torsion springs when one broke. A different company replaced that one. Garage Tech was a referral from a neighbor. I was very happy with the way I was treated on the phone, and extremely happy with the service I received from James, who replaced the torsion spring that broke (the older one). The mechanism is a lot quieter now in it's operation . James also helped me in minutes (or was it seconds? LOL) to program the control that sits on the outside of the garage. 1) One of our torsion springs broke Monday evening. 2) Proceeded to YouTube how to replace garage door torsion spring. Decided it was too risky even for someone like me who is decently mechanically inclined and handy (my opinion, of course.) 3) Went on Yelp Tuesday morning to canvas some price quotes from reputable garage door repair companies. 4) Got about 10 replies from different entities, 7 out of 10 required an "in-person inspection" before sending an approximate price. This is with me sending out dimensions, pictures, part numbers, torsion spring widths, length, etc. (.207, P175S, 24 inch spring length, etc) You would think they could give you rough estimate with all that info. 5) Out of the three that responded, Garage Tech sent a bid that was best priced and committed to a SPECIFIC time that worked best for me. The others wanted to show up between a 2-3 hour window. Nah. I've had too much of that nonsense from Comcast. 6) Garage Tech showed up ON TIME (actually got there before me, as I rushed home from work). Paid the price as quoted. The upselling, lack of knowledge of the commissioned salespeople that showed up, and price suggested to me something wasn't right. I heard about these guys and decided to just drop in at the office for a little due diligence. It's a small operation located in a small industrial park and is locally owned. Two nice ladies were staffing the office and the owner, who also installs, came by on his way to a job and said a few words. The whole operation exuded authenticity so I gave them a whirl. The price was better than the other folks, the service was first class and straight forward, and the job impeccably well done. Our garage door had a spring snap and break off into the door. Replaced both springs with safety cables (Extension Spring Repair), replaced four damaged pulleys, and replaced our keypad to open the door from the outside. All in, $451.95. I know this amount sounds high but to get our door back and operating safely it was well worth the cost!!!
