A year ago I took my son's Ford Focus in to get a repair to his electrical system. I paid the diagnostic fee and then didn't hear anything from them. I finally called in the early afternoon and was told that they had "used up all of the shop time that I had paid for" and that I would have to pay more for them to continue looking for the problem. Now, I do believe that they looked for the problem. I know that old Fords have horrible electrical issues. I know that they can be very difficult to diagnose. My issue is that when I was talking with them about the diagnostic, there was no mention of extra charges or a time limit. It was a straight diagnostic fee. When I actually talked to the owner, he agreed to refund my payment in exchange for me not posting a negative review. But again, no refund. I heard from him a couple of times; apparently it takes a really long time to refund money. It's been over a year now, no refund. Just beware. Not quite what they advertise. Maybe good enough in some areas, but not a good experience for me. read more

I could not be happier with my experience here! I recently was looking to buy a used 2007 Prius and wanted to have it inspected by a reputable hybrid mechanic before taking the plunge and purchasing it. I called several places but Steven Scott at Garage 47 was just so knowledgeable and friendly on the phone I decided to bring the car to him, and I could not be more glad that I did. Garage 47 was flexible about the appointment time, which was great because the seller was late. They looked over every inch of the car and took pictures of everything, and sent me a text when they were done with a link so I could see everything and read all their notes and recommdations. I was able to share that information with the seller, and being able to see the issues with the car he was even willing to drop his asking price! I decided to buy the car and brought it back to Garage 47 to have several hoses replaced, the cabin filter changed, and a light bulb replaced. Everyone I spoke with there was friendly and helpful, and could instantly answer any questions I had. Steven even figured out and fixed what was wrong with my spare key! They also put air in my tires, which I hate doing myself. Their waiting area is air conditioned with a phone charging station, and chilled water dispenser, and they even have a scented candle burning so it doesn't seem like car ick while you wait! Overall I am so happy I paid just a little bit more to have my car inspected and repaired by the hybrid specialists at Garage 47. The service was impeccable, the people go out of their way to be friendly and helpful, and most of all I feel safe driving my car knowing that Steven and his team checked and fixed everything. I've driven past this shop every day on my commute and always thought it looked clean and well organized. When my 2011 Kia Soul decided it was a good time to have the alternator die, Garage 47 was within my 5 mile tow from AAA so I figured I'd check them out. I called at 8:05AM on a Friday (right after they opened) and spoke to Vince, who, after taking my info, said I could just come on down. AAA towed me there at a little before 9. I got a text saying they were starting my service right after that. After an email with a link to pictures and describing the service needed (new alternator) and how much it would cost, I approved the service within the website and went on with getting a rental car thinking it would take a couple days. Imagine my surprise at 12:30PM when I got the notification that my car was finished!! I picked up my car at like 1:15PM and it was waiting outside in a parking spot for me. Paid for my service and then off I went for my crazy weekend. Some reviewers are complaining about the diagnostic fee and that their services are expensive. Honestly, I'd much rather pay a touch more to have my car done so fast that I almost didn't have to rent a car, and didn't have to pay $100 to have it towed to the closest Kia dealer with service! Without a doubt, the best repair shop experience I've ever had. Went 30 mins across town because of the stellar reviews this place had. It was a smaller shop than I expected when I arrived - but the interior/waiting room was modern and hip, clearly well managed (young guy with an iPad and a giant screen taking people's info efficiently). Dropping the car off was easy and ridiculously friendly. Got a call a few hours later (earlier than promised) updating me on diagnosis and laying out options - as well as recommendations on what was critical, what wasn't, what was worth doing (in their opinion) based on the age of the car, and what was worth skipping and not spending money on. Picked the car up later the same day, and the actual tech came out to chat with us. Again, with an iPad showing photos of the issues they diagnosed, explaining to us in detail what they saw, what they did, and what might become issues down the road. SUPER informative and educational, and very patient explaining things to us. The price was more than reasonable, the work was stellar, and the experience was unreal for an auto shop. This review is long overdue. I can't say enough about Steve and his excellent staff. I've taken all 3 of our vehicles to G47 for everything from suspension work, to an engine rebuild to an oil change. In the case of my son's car, which had shut down on his way to work, we had it towed to G47 .. Within hours, Steve called and said the reason the engine failed was a broken timing belt, when I told him we had had the timing belt, water pump, etc.. all changed by the dealer less than 20k miles before, Steve immediately called the dealer and with the help of Steve's immense technical knowledge and impeccable reputation, the dealership refunded our money for their questionable work. That is something that seldom, if ever, happens . Whenever I've been at the shop, waiting my turn to be checked in, I couldn't help but listen to my fellow customers explain the problem with their vehicles. And no matter the make of the vehicle or the problem, not only did Steve immediately recognize the problem, he also explained why the problem is inherent to that particular make and model and how to repair it ! These guys are awesome, I was on my way to the river and found out my starter didn't work, I went and purchased a new one and tried to find a shop that would put it in for me. Most automotive places won't touch a boat but the owner himself came out hooked it up and showed me upcoming issues I might have. Derek and Jason were very accommodating. Derek took to working in my truck and kept me updated as to what was recommended to be fixed and replaced to solve the issues. Communications were by text, e-mail (showing photos of what needed fixing and replacing), and by personal phone calls. I just moved to the Sacramento area hoping to find a good go to Auto-Shop, after reading all the yelp reviews I decided to give Garage 47 a try. What really captured my attention was that Garage 47 was described at "local, family owned" " owner is easy to talk to and willing to explain the details to you" and "people have left satisfied with the services they have received". I came in for an oil change (drop-in) and a brake inspection. While waiting I was able to exchange some interesting conversation with him. My impression has been very positive. Aside from the professionalism, he is also a person of values and principles. I was definitely very impressed. Great place! I found it by reading reviews on Yelp, so I hope you'll like the reviews and go there, too! My old Toyota Corolla had a broken water pump. This is neither an easy nor an inexpensive thing to repair, because the water pump is buried down in the engine. In fact, it's 3 hours of labor because so much has to be disassembled and then reassembled. After reading Yelp reviews, I called 3 different places that seemed competent and trustworthy. Garage 47 had the best price and a convenient location. (I caught the bus after I dropped my car off. The bus stop is right on their corner.) There's no paperwork, BTW. Everything is done by email! There's a big computer display on their wall so you can see everything in your work order and approve it on the computer. Then you get an emailed copy. Same deal with the final invoice. The staff was great! Steve the owner is easy to talk to and explains everything in however much detail you need. They did great work! (It's been 25 days, and a lot of those were 100+ degrees, so if there was going to be a problem, it is likely to have shown up by now.) Here's the best part of the deal; they finished the car on a Saturday afternoon, about an hour before their closing time. I wasn't going to be able to catch a bus to get me there before they closed, so it looked like I was going to have to go until Monday morning before I could get my car, BUT THEY PICKED ME UP AT HOME SO I WOULDN'T BE WITHOUT A CAR FOR THE WEEKEND!!! Honest, intelligent mechanics, fair prices, and outstanding communication makes Garage 47 my new auto shop! I needed a 120K service, and was looking for something local instead of the chain places. I found Garage 47 on recommendations from my neighbors, and my fellow Yelpers. My experience began by scheduling an appointment online. Steve quickly responded and provided a detailed estimate for my review and approval. I approved the estimate for the oil change, trans fluid change, and cooling system flush. I also gave them carte blanche approval to do anything else they thought was necessary: tune up, spark plugs, coil, blinker fluid, fluxcapitor, and anything else needed to keep my ride in tip top shape. I dropped off my car on Saturday AM, and they promptly checked me in. I reviewed what I was looking for, and headed out for the day. As they worked on my car, I received email updates and photos of the progress! So cool! When all was said and done, I got a thorough debrief of their service and the many checks they performed. While several recommendations were expected, what I didn't expect was that there was zero pressure to upgrade my service. They also let me know realistic timelines for my brakes, timing belt and other services I should plan to do in the several months. Most impressively, they didn't take advantage of me pre-approving the service. In fact, when they got into checking everything, they noted a few items were just fine, and didn't need replacement after all. My experience with Garage 47 is as good as it gets! I've taken my car in for service twice now. Once for a standard oil change, once for an AC diagnosis/service. Both experiences have been fantastic! Very friendly staff who take the time to give you a thorough rundown of the work done and the outcome. Also, in the case of the oil change, they made a couple of modest recommendations on areas of service I might want to consider over the course of the upcoming year (both of which I was already kicking around the idea of). However, at no time did I feel like I was being pressured to have them complete any additional work ASAP. It's great to have a local garage that I can trust to perform the job correctly and efficiently. Also one where I'm not having to worry about being gouged with bait & switch service items. Or worse yet, being told that I needed an extra 1/2 gallon of...um...blinker fluid, or had a faulty flux-capacitor in need of replacing. read more

Took my 2006 Mazda (non hybrid) in for what I thought was a headlight/alternator issue. I am always scared about taking my cars into mechanic shops since I know nothing about cars. The owner was extremely professional, helpful, nice, and honest. Turned out my car didn't have anything wrong with it and I was looking at light bulbs that were for esthetics and not actual headlights. He still did plenty of work by checking out what all the problems could be and cleaned out my headlights so they would illuminate more. He charged me very very little for that.
