We are sorry to say that we will no longer be clients of your automotive shop. For many years, we trusted your business for minor automotive repairs and maintenance. Most recently, we brought in my mom's Toyota Camry due to issues with the motor mounts. After multiple visits and 2 repairs that left the car running unusually, we were told that this was the best that could be done and that no further improvements were possible. Unfortunately, the problem continued to worsen over the following months. We ultimately sought a second opinion from another garage. They determined that incorrect, low-quality motor mounts had been installed, and that these parts were actually less expensive than what we had been charged. In effect, we were billed dealership-level pricing for inferior parts, which turned out to be the root cause of the ongoing issue. We returned to your shop with documentation from the second garage. While we appreciate that you agreed to refund the $1,700 and accepted the return of the parts, the situation has significantly impacted our trust and confidence in your services. I had a coolant leak from my radiator they showed a photo of the leak then they broke down what it would cost to repair they kept me informed on what repairs they were doing and when done with repairs they showed a list what was done and what parts they used( good quality parts (Denso) also received a 10% discount for being a veteran. Very late review but I had my car serviced by Hal's on 10/06. I had an electrical inspection done initially to find out what was wrong with my car because my car battery was depleting by morning and I had just gotten a battery replacement elsewhere. The inspection costs $200 and is very detailed! They send you the breakdown of everything they checked and what they found through email and a link! JP kept me updated everyday as well! I had to get the ignition switch replaced and a new cylinder lock . My car was in the shop for 2.5 days but again JP notified me that I could use the shop's loaner car since I mentioned I had to work the following days. The price range is mid but definitely worth it! They were very transparent and informative about everything! 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking to get their car fixed up. read more

I called to make an appointment and immediately stated to the person that answered the phone that I have a coupon and would like to take my truck in for an oil change. Before I was able to tell him what kind of truck that I have, he immediately stated "it will be $140.00 and $20.00 off with the coupon. Uh! What? Ok! I won't be doing business there anytime soon. Hope your experience is better: My dad is 94 and wants to sell his (beloved) car. He still drives but shouldn't ;). Had Hal's fix up the vehicle for sale - and everything was perfect. They did a great job for a reasonable price. They even called back to ensure we were satisfied. Flash forward a couple of months... Dad found a buyer for his car, but it wouldn't start and couldn't be jumped. Battery we got was new... so I figured no problem, these guy were great - I'll just go back and they will take care of me. I went in, and Mark tells me they don't sell the battery that was in the car! He gets angry and throws me (figuratively) out of his shop. He wouldn't look up our invoice or even speak to me. I was polite and contrite... but he kicked me out of his shop and told me to leave. He refused to speak with me. The car has only driven from the shop to home since the services were rendered. They turned in our old battery for a core charge / and there was only one battery in the car when I lifted he back seat! My dad certainly didn't swap the battery out... he can't even lift it. I understand Mark's skepticism, I'm sure people take advantage of some situations... but this guy treated me like a criminal instead of a loyal customer.. which we have been for years. I can't remember being treated in a more disrespectful manner. I believe they can do good work, but if you have an issue that you need to discuss.. you are out of luck. I have a classic car that needed some basic maintenance work done to it. Recognizing that many shops no longer work on older cars, I called ahead to ascertain if Hal's would work on my vehicle. The person with whom I spoke told me it wouldn't be a problem and shared stories of his own personal experience working on the same model car as mine, so I felt comfortable enough to leave my vehicle here. Every few days I would receive calls from the shop with new items that they found that needed attention, and each time it was a substantial increase in price. This is an old car that isn't driven much and I appreciate that things will go wrong with it; thus, I authorized each of the repairs, including extensive brake work. After a few weeks, I was told my car was ready and was asked if I want to have it towed out of the shop. The mechanics could not get the car to start and suspected the issue was related to the carburetor but didn't do the repair as they were not sure this was the cause. So, I have an exorbitant bill for repairs on a car that had not even been road tested following brake work and is now not running. This was unacceptable to me. I asked the shop to diagnose and repair the issue that was causing the car to not start and they replaced the carburetor but still couldn't get the car to drive. They had no idea where to go from there and suggested I have the car towed to another shop. The bill was excessive in my mind for the work that was performed but we ultimately came to a figure that--while still high--we both agreed upon. The car was towed to another place and finally repaired properly. Unfortunately, while the car was at the second shop it was discovered that some of the work that was supposed to be completed by Hal's did not appear to have been done. I called Hal's and the person with whom I spoke talked directly to the mechanic who insisted the work had been performed. Since I wasn't present when the Hal's mechanic was working on the car and I didn't see what the second shop saw, I cannot fairly say that I'm being lied to; however, the whole situation leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Hal's offered me a complimentary oil change--which is a nice gesture--but I will definitely not be bringing any of my vehicles to this shop. Although everyone was polite in my interactions, the inability to repair my car properly and my suspicion of integrity issues preclude me from endorsing this business. read more

Needed an oil change and tire rotation. We were able to get in within a few days and was finished within reasonable time. A week late our tire pressure light went on so we called to asked to have them check it out since we couldn't find a nail in any of the tires. My parents had their 2011 Camry repaired here last week. The car was towed in with a suspected dead alternator. -Hal's marks up the RETAIL price of all parts 3-4x. A $250 denso rebuilt alternator becomes $730, a $20 accessory belt becomes $100. - Their shop rate is $200 plus per hour for simple mechanical repairs. The computer tells them it takes 4 hours (which it doesn't). And total labor for a simple, easy to access part is $840. - in addition to the $840 for the alternator install, they then charge $20.00 to install an air filter element that takes probably 30 seconds. At the end of the day, this is a $2,000 bill to install a simple, easy to access and plentiful part. If the problem had been more exotic, I can't imagine what the cost would have been. read more

Russ and Mike are good communicators and provided detailed information on what needed to be done to get done and provided a quote before starting any work. I'd give it a half star if I could. I'm usually always skeptic of mechanical shops as they are rip offs and upsells. My AC was not working and I had taken it to my mechanic. There was no leak, and the main issue was electrical. My mechanic did not work on electrical so he advised me to find an auto electrician. My electrician didn't show up so I found these guys and seemed to have good reviews. The main computer of my car would not initiate for the compressor to kick in. MY ac blew cold air but would struggle to stay cold. It'll turn cold and then hot. so the issue was of a signal not being sent. I called and got a quote stating they would do "diagnostic" and check for leaks etc. I already told them what I had found out myself. They charged me $150 to tell me the same exact thing I already told them. That there was "an issue" with the signal. They wanted additional $175 to "further diagnose it via electrical". Upsell and waste of money. I left the shop and my electrician was now back at his shop. He took 20 minutes, replaced a relay fuse and snip snapped some wire on and wha la! AC worked again and only charged me $80. This place is a complete money grabber. Don't waste your money. Told me things I already knew and still charged me $150. What a waste! read more

Took my vehicle in for AC work. When I took it in, I was aware of one leak in the system but I asked them to diagnose the entire system to make sure there was no other issues with the system. After the diagnosis, they informed me that they had discovered a crack in the condenser thread. They recommended I replace the condenser and a couple of lines. I approved the work. Once they had everything put back together, they then called and told me the fan clutch needed replacing. I'm Confused as to why this was not discovered in the original diagnosis I paid for. They then charged me again for labor for taking everything bac apart to replace the fan clutch. After that I picked up the vehicle and the AC was working great. Now, the worst thing was the other damage caused by the shop when they were doing it. Power steering line was bent leaving a hose rubbing against a belt. This caused a massive leak and damage to the belt. In addition, the alternator bolts were not tightened properly after the work was completed. Very disappointed with the overall results. read more

I made an appointment last Friday for this Friday to get my ac fixed because it's unbearably hot then I got a call today from them saying that they needed to cancel or reschedule my appointment. I called and told them I already took the day off work and have a lot of stuff worked out to get this done and he said there was nothing they can do and basically he was being nice and doing me a favor by calling and telling me ahead of time. I have had my Party Bus serviced by this company, that Specialize in A/C Repair. Nick B. and Mark (at the front office) where Amazingly Cordial, & Helpful!! The Mechanic Nick C., worked on my busses A/C, for over 6 Hours (in 100+ Heat) and went Above (& Beyond) to fix the Leak, and re-route the hoses, so they were no longer rubbing on the frame. He Is a Very Good Mechanic, that Won't Quit, until his work holds up to this companies High Standards! He Is a Breath of COOL Air, that is Hard to Find, in this day & age!! So after posting my first experience about being screwed out of $150 for an a/c system diagnosis by Hal's, I took my car to another a/c mechanic who fixed the leak and then evacuated and recharged my a/c system for $30 labor and $37 parts! When I called Hal's back and told Kenny how pissed off I was about the situation, he could only say that the other mechanic is not doing it legally. What do I care? I don't give a ratsa#& if he is. VERY DISHONEST COMPANY. I took my car here because it was showing that it was over heating after driving for a bit. They had my car for 4 days and when I called to see what the progress was and if I could come pick it up Nick said could we keep it over the weekend until Monday. I told him I really need my car so I can get to work tomorrow he said i'll call you back in 20 min. He calls back 30 minutes later and says your car is fixed and ready to go. I pay over the phone and tell him I have to get a ride and won't be able to make it before they close so they put my key in a lock box so I could pick it up. I pick my car up around 6 pm and literally the same temperature sensor light starts flashing as soon as I get on the freeway. smh. now im out $350 and still have to find a honest mechanic that can fix my car. read more

I'm sorry but I have to give low stars to this place. I called on a Thursday to schedule an ASAP appointment to do a pre sale inspection of a Toyota Rav4, and they were able to fit me in on Friday, so that is a positive. They charged $190 for the inspection, which I thought was extremely high, but I called a few other places and found out that was just a bit above the going rate. Unfortunately I didn't think to call the dealer, who actually only charge $150! Unfortunately, their expensive inspection actually did more harm than good. I made them aware of an oil leak from a hose at the top of the engine that had already been repaired. They called me saying that there might be an oil leak from the timing chain cover. After I came in to be shown the "issue", they said they thought there might be a leak, but they weren't sure because the oil also could have been coming from... The oil hose, which is literally right above the timing cover. So what good is this information to me? "there may or may not be an oil leak" is not useful information. They made 0 effort beyond a cursory visual inspection to determine if there was a leak or not. Then, they told me there might also a be separate one from the rear main seal. Again, no attempt was made to determine if there actually was a leak, just a visual inspection. "there's oil on the engine" is not a helpful bit of information. Yes, I can see that. Finally, after they had just got done telling me there might be a rear main deal leak (a deal killer and major repair), I asked them to explain to the dealer (who arrived to pick up the car) about the oil leaks... At which point they clarified and said the "rear main seal leal" might also be just an oil pan gasket leak! BIG DIFFERENCE. One is a 45 minute job and the other is a 20 hour job. Yes, I know it's not always easy to tell exactly where oil is coming from. For $190 (2 hours worth of labor) I expect at the least that they would spray some brake cleaner to get the oil residue off and drive it around to see if they can see any new leaks, at the very least. For the life of me I cannot figure out how they spent 2 hours inspecting the vehicle. At the end they told me it would be $85 to run a dye test to see if there was any leak at all (and not just residue) but they couldn't do it until Tuesday. At this point I had no choice but to schedule an inspection at the dealer instead, because I didn't want to give Hal's any more of my money. I later went to do some quick research on the issue and found out there is actually a TSB (technical service bulletin) from Toyota about the leaky oil hose, and that the v6 engine very rarely has any other oil leaks. So it seems they made zero effort to actually provide me with useful information. They even admitted that they had their "new guy" do the inspection. Afterwards, I was personally able later to get under the vehicle and see that the oil from the replaced hose was OBVIOUSLY the source of ALL the oil residue, and that there was most likely no other leaks. So that's $190 out of my pocket for exactly 0 useful information and a lot of confusion. Very disappointed. read more

I've been going to Hal's Auto for about 2 years since I moved to California & so far so good until now! My engine light was on & I knew I was due for an oil change. No mention of the engine light was brought to my attention. The next day I realized my engine light was still on so I called to ask if I should be concerned & office staff person said "yes". I asked how their multi point inspection didn't find that & she said "we don't check for that." I asked how much it would cost to check it out & was told $179 + whatever they find!
