I could have eaten many of these if I hadn't also gotten some pho. Pho Ga: The broth had an unusual flavor that didn't resemble traditional pho. It also felt strange being asked to choose what type of noodles I wanted--authentic pho typically comes as is, without customization. Overall, the dish was pretty basic. Shrimp Basil Roll: The dominant flavor was just basil, and it was surprising (and disappointing) to see each roll individually wrapped in plastic wrap. That, along with the peanut sauce pre-packed in a to-go container, made it seem less than freshly prepared. Chicken & Shrimp Rice: My husband thought it was fine--nothing special, but not bad either. The odd part was that he wasn't given proper silverware, so he ended up eating rice with chopsticks. Passion Fruit Boba: Thankfully, this was the highlight. Refreshing, not overly sweet, and well-balanced. Overall, while the vibe is modernized, GFN feels very Westernized and misses the mark on authentic Vietnamese flavors. Stopped by Gao noodle store which is located across a busy intersection @ Duluth/Johns Creek area. Huge seating inside (great for big groups as well). They are known for their Vietnamese pho. They also serve other rice, noodle dishes. We tried the vermicelli noodles with chicken. The order came with egg rolls and side sauce. The food is pretty good. The in house special noodles are a bit thicker and I really like them. I don't know if I'd do it every time but it's a nice option for sure. Came with cilantro, Thai basil, jalapeños, bean sprouts and lime. Everything you need for a good bowl. The meat was incredibly tender and the broth was second to none IMO. The service was great, I ordered and within probably 3 minutes I had my delicious bowl of pho. The restaurant is pretty good size and I didn't have any issues getting a seat. Very good Vietnamese food in casual mall type location. Basic menu with chicken, pork belly, tofu or beef with pho soup, vermicelli, or rice. The menu is the QR scan kind. We ordered and the food came out super fast. We enjoyed the rocket shrimp appetizer 4pcs. #25 spicy beef noodle soup was good. Plenty of beef slices and meatballs. It was medium spicy. #45 sauteed beef rice was also good but we wish there was an option for double meat. In hindsight, they probably would have given more beef for a fee if we had asked but we did not think to because it wasn't listed on the menu. The vermicelli or rice dishes are served with fresh lettuce, pickled daikon-carrot, and the classic Nuoc Cham dipping sauce (made from fish sauce). #50 chicken shrimp vermicelli was tasty. Only the vermicelli dish was served with fresh cilantro - that and the sauce really made the dish. The milk tea boba had very fresh boba but was a little less sweet than Gongcha (which we prefer) but very good. This is the best we've had FOR THIS AREA so that is why we gave them 5 stars. I am glad to find another Pho restaurant choice nearby, for a moment I thought it was a Chinese restaurant from its name. The service was courteous and menu is simple since there are only few choices for pho: chicken or beef, the soup base are the same. I had beef tenderloin and shank, fresh bean sprouts, this would be most typical pho choice. There is nothing much to say, all tasted good, except soap could be better. I've had fresh noodle pho at a different place and I preferred the traditional not fresh noodles, the same applies to this place. The fresh noodles here were quite thick and you can really taste the starch. It doesn't soak up the broth as well as the non-fresh noodles. The broth here could be stronger in flavor to make up for the overpowering starch of the noodles, but personally I think it could be more bolder in general. I would suggest sticking to non-fresh noodles if you care about broth over noodles. The chicken egg roll to my surprise was delicious and authentic! I ordered a bowl of brisket pho (they only have one size) and new mung bean drink. The drink is so rich, creamy, and refreshing. Mung bean is very popular in Vietnam as it is known to make your skin glows and detox your body. I don't think any other place sell this drink which I have to come back before they run out. Back to the star- the broth is rich and savory, the brisket is tender, and the pho noodle is thin and soft. Taste the broth first and then add the herbs, the lime, and the sauces to enhance the flavor. Hoisin adds sweetness and balances spiciness of sriracha. Too much lime and sriracha can cause bitterness to the broth. If you are clean freak, you can ask to boil the bean sprouts (but no crunchiness after). The service is excellent; both the cashier and the waiter/waitress are attentive and friendly. Do come by on a rainy or cold day. read more

I stumbled upon Gao Noodles while at Whole Foods returning amazing packages. I get a text from my wife was "asking whats for dinner?" When in doubt, Pho is always a good option. I was ready to brave the trek to Duluth area as we usually do for asian food. But instead just google/yelp a restaurant. To my surprise, Gao Noodles popped up as a nearby option! I have to admit, I went in a bit skeptical (this area isn't exactly known for stellar pho), but this place was actually solid! At first glance the menu was like 2 pages with like 5 items or so on the pho section. The broth was lighter than what I'm used to, but it had a good, clean flavor that still hit the spot. Also this spot is toddler friendly, there was even a table next to us that was having a great time and my toddler was just staring and being entertained by them(shout out to them celebrating their daughter 14th bday). Back to Toddler friendly with high chairs and kiddos love noodles and soup! The menu isn't massive, but every dish we tried was on point. And the service was great, too--not something I expected going in. If you're in the area and craving Pho without dealing with the usual Duluth area and crowds, Gao Noodles is definitely worth a visit its located "duluth" but its really closer to Johns Creek right close by to Johns Creek H-mart! read more

We really enjoyed our meal at Gao Fresh Noodle. We went on Valentine's Day and were one of about 4 tables sat. The inside was clean and service was wonderful. The mango boba tea was delicious and a great price. The pho was also very good, would recommend paying the extra dollar for the hand pulled thick noodles that they make in house. Probably the most bland Bun Bo Hue and Pho I've had in all my life. I don't even think it's a real BBH because there is no fish cake or rhizome. It's just a beef pho that they added chili to. Very misleading. They gave us 1 quarter of a lime and 2 sprigs of cilantro to dress three bowls of pho! If you don't get their "fresh" rice noodles, you get starchy and powdery store bought noodles that haven't been soaked or washed so you can taste all the residue. We found this treasure through Yelp. The Pho was SO good. When you first walk in - in the morning around 11:45 - the aromas are still so fresh in the air it's like you're living in the broth. It gave me a really high expectation and I was pleasantly impressed. I had the Shrimp Pho #30 (with fried scallion as a garnish which gave it that extra A+), my husband had the Tenderloin Pho #11 (beefy, no fat, no "goo-goo's," very fresh), and the kids split a white meat Chicken Pho. We all loved the broth. It was sweet, salty, and aromatic. The thick noodles were so silky and perfect. (My husband says he'd prefer them a little more al dente! They have what you would expect to see on a menu at a similar establishment. The noodles for the pho taste fresh and clean. They have a more bouncy texture than you find at other places. The soup also has a very clean flavor. Does not have that deep beef broth that you find at other places in the Atlanta area. The flavors just did not have me going back in for another bite. Honestly, I didn't think the pho broth was that great. I've had better. The reason why we chose this place was because it was rated 4.8 on Google reviews. I have no idea why it's rated so high. I ordered the shrimp and chicken rice plate and it was hardly any food for $16. The seasoning of the meat and chicken were flavorful, but it was such a measly amount. I've been to other pho places and they gave way more protein for this amount. The rest of my family ordered pho... and again, the broth was meh. To make matters worse, we only saw the server three times... to order, to ask for more water refills, and then to pay. Since we were a party of 5, they proceeded to charge us a service fee of 20%!This place looks clean and nice, but in no way does it deserve a 20% service charge. It felt more like a casual dining place. Anyway, we won't be coming back here again. read more

Didn't want to leave the JC area in case it started to pour so stopped by Gao Fresh Noodle. It was our first time there, but we didn't know about it until we saw a post recently. Husband and I ordered the pork belly/shrimp rice dish ($15), pho with meatballs and tenderloin ($15), and egg rolls ($7). The pho had good flavor and was light (didn't taste thick and heavy) which I liked. The tenderloin meat was soft and good. Meatballs are with tendon, so wouldn't order if you don't like tendon. Their egg rolls are a bit pricey, but fried golden; taste wise is pretty standard - description says there's taro but I didn't notice any. The shrimp and pork belly tasted grilled/blackened. It was made fresh and good, but I wouldn't really say there's any Vietnamese flavors to the dish besides the fish sauce on the side. Husband would order the pork belly again. No major complaints regarding service. The waiter was really soft spoken so it was quite difficult to hear what he was saying, even over the music being played. Restaurant was clean and there were only two other tables besides ours on a Sunday night. Plenty of parking. I did see two specials they have on the wall: 20% off pho ga (chicken pho) all day on Mondays. On Wednesday, if you order 2 beef pho, then you get some summer drink free (can't remember specifically which one). read more

Something unfortunate is happening at Gao's. This place used to be very good and the quality of food was excellent. Sadly I picked up a couple of chicken dishes the other evening and while the noodles and rice were fine, the chicken was disgusting. Gamey and unpleasant tasting, it was not fresh and also tasted like it was not grilled. We had a few bites and couldn't continue. I hate wasting food but even the few bites resulted in a stomachache. I really hope they take this review seriously and choose to go back to the basics that made this place so good when it first opened. read more

Not too many places serve pho with fresh hand cut noodles! Gao Fresh Noodle is located in Johns Creek, GA. It's in an area where the only real competition when it comes to Pho, is Le Mekong, which happens to be closed due to the renovations at the moment so Gao opening was perfect timing as it can gather up the existing clientele who are craving pho. So to start, the interior is very bright and modern. I think they took over what used to be a Tin Drum and they may have inherited some of the decor as well. Anyways, the seating setup is mostly booths and individual tables that are located in the middle of the open layout. There is a counter at the front as well, where you can order takeout or pay there if you're in a hurry to head out. The menu is pretty small in my opinion. Not a bad thing. They server apps like Spring rolls and Egg rolls, they have some rice and vermicelli options as well. Their pho is what you would expect, you have the basics like Dac Biet (basically the one with all the meat options in it!), some that have just one selection of meat like brisket or just chicken. So it's basic for the most part. It is kind of pricey when it comes to pho though, $15 for a bowl is up there but not unexpected for the area and with the economy due to COVID, most places have increased their prices too. That being said the pho is is really good. They give you a generous amount of noodles and meat. The broth is very savory and doesn't feel that heavy compared to other pho places I've been too. If you haven't had fresh hand cut pho noodles before, it's definitely something worth trying to see if you like it. I prefer it over the traditional pho rice noodles, but that's just me.
