Half "Big Apple" Deli Style: $7.29
    Paul V.

Outside of trips to Portland and Santa Monica, I'm relatively new to this Food Truck scene, but when I discovered Klyde Warren Park and the glory that is it's food truck selection, I had to dive head-first into one of my all-time favorite cuisines - deli subs. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? One of the toughest parts of running a food truck has to be the service aspect. You've literally got to bring your A-game all day every day considering you can't provide a place for anyone to sit, but Gandolfo's absolutely nails it with their Dallas crew. Super nice guys who are happy to accomodate and have your sandwich out in a flash. Really, really nice and genuine people. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? A good, non-chain deli sub is an investment without a doubt, but luckily I knew this going in, so I was more than happy to fork over $7.29 for a half portion of the "Big Apple" with extra meat. While it doesn't look huge in the picture, this was a meal and a half, and I can't even begin to imagine what a full-size would have looked like: http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=I8S-Mc8eOUvFtOfaFgedaQ&userid=OKX-V5j_qfuOebeHeWGrHg Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Gandolfo's can dish up a brilliant sub, but my one gripe is that consistency can be a tad bit hit or miss. I've had subs at Gandolfo's that are easily among the best I've ever had, and I've had subs that have had me regretting my decision. First and foremost, you're looking at some really quality bread here, which is obviously one of the catalysts of any good sammie yeah? So the bread is solid, but it's in the meat selection that I've found a mixed bag. At times you get really amazing lean cuts of meat, but other times I've had a real dripper of a sandwich that really threw off the whole thing. Either way, there are amazing toppings of shredded lettuce and banana peppers, and a great mishmash of sauces that bring the whole thing together. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? The product is great, but the consistency often has me deciding between Gandolfo's and nearby Uncle Ubers: http://www.yelp.com/biz/uncle-ubers-sammich-shop-dallas . That being the case, I can't say I would come here daily. No Star Granted.

Pastrami dog combo (hot dog, pastrami, spicy brown mustard, and a pickle) potatoe salad, black and white cookie.
    Miss E.

(FOOD TRUCK) So tried the pastrami dog, potatoe salad, and the black and white cookie. Let's get to the meat...... The pastrami on the hot dog was so good I wish I would've gotten a sandwich. Hot dog was a Nathan hot dog and they have good dogs. Combined together, it was an okay hot dog..for me. Potatoe salad - was a crunchy mess. I am not a fan. It needed salt, barely had bacon, and it was just ugh...not my favorite. I'm a yellow Potatoe salad kind of girl anyway, so I probably should have just stayed away in the first place. The white and black cookie - why the F@*# is it called a cookie? It's a flat dry a** twinky with a sweet mediocre half chocolate and white icing. It was...blah. not a fan. But back to the meat...I really loved the pastrami. It was so good, I really went back and got a sandwich. Prices for full sandwiches are $11.00, half sandwiches are $6.00, and the hot dogs are 6 as well. #TryItYaSelf

    Urban cowboy... meh

Parked outside the office... wondered why the line was short... got a look at the pricing and now I know why?!? I was looking for a building and some cloth with silverware the sandwich was so so after the pricing...and nothing comes with it all (al a cart) but hey it is another choice for people to make.

Sour cream potato salad. If you skip it, you aren't missing much.
    Chelsea G.

Straight down the middle on this one. I'll start with the so/so: the fries are of your basic frozen variety, a little soggy and nothing to write home about. The potatoes in the sour cream potato salad were a bit undercooked for my taste as the dressing was on the bland side. I had the pastrami dog, he had the Reuben. The bread on his Reuben was really lovely and the addition of pastrami to my all-beef hot dog was killer. I don't think I would stop by this truck again, but the meal wasn't a let down.

Coney dog w/ sour cream potato salad. Yummy!

Over the days, I ordered a Ham&Cheese, Reuben, Club, and Patty Melt. The Reuben was my absolute favorite. I liked that the corned beef and pastrami was not too salty. The rye? bread that was used was sooo soft and fluffy which is what made this place memorable to me. Side pickle was also crunchy and tasty and I liked the potato salad! Thank you for making my court days a little bit better. I'm glad there are other locations so I don't need to return downtown to get a great sandwich again!

Heading towards Dallas, I asked Mrs. K. if she wanted proper smoked salmon for breakfast and she was all in. As we're in the area for the Sixth Floor museum, this was an easy stop once we found and paid for parking. A small storefront with a large dining room that is decorated with some New York themed photos, we seated ourselves and a waitress brought over menus followed by coffee. We placed our orders and about ten minutes later, breakfast arrived. Mrs. K.'s platter included a good portion of thin sliced salmon along with ALL of the fixings including capers, cucumber, tomato, red onion and cream cheese. The toasted everything bagel was very good but not quite "New York style" perfection. Hey, it's Texas. You get to slide. My nova, eggs and onion plate was excellent with a huge portion of home fries. Cooked properly and with plenty of salmon mixed in, I enjoyed it very much. The biscuits were excellent, the gravy was a little thin on sausage but still tasty. Five stars because it's great service and great food. This is as close to New York style as you'll get when you're 1400 miles from Brooklyn. [Review 394 of 2026 - 709 in Texas - 25578 overall]

I had the Italian beef, which was delicious--but definitely spicy. I even asked for light peppers and it still brought some heat. So fair warning: if you're sensitive to spice, you might want to pivot to something else. My wife has been missing New Orleans, so she went with the muffaletta. Let's just say it was a much cheaper solution than flying her to the Big Easy. No gumbo on the menu, but the sandwich hit the spot. After we ate, we did a little shopping and grabbed some fresh Italian ingredients imported straight from Italy--which is always a win in my book. Great food, great vibe, and a true Dallas institution. We'll definitely be back.

Update 2: The bagels at Sclafani's are fantastic, but their tipping system is misleading. Even though employees elect to include tips in a flat pay rate, offering a credit card tip option gives customers the impression that the money goes directly to staff which it does not.
