When I moved to Seattle back in 1998 I was awestruck with how amazing Gameworks was- granted, it was new and shiny and I can appreciate that shiny things lose their luster, but this is just plain tarnished. The set up used to be great but now the restaurant upstairs is just slapped together- it's a weird vibe up there- ugly, worn down carpets, harsh lighting, nothing on the walls, the TVs were on the cooking channel when there was college football and MLB playoffs going on- it feels like you're in restaurant purgatory in there- you're in a place that's supposed to be fun, but it's not and you keep wondering what you did to deserve to be in there...the whole thing is really kind of depressing. I was there with The Girl and five 13 year olds for a birthday party and I would never do that again. The food was mediocre at best. I will say that our waitress was very nice and did a good job with a bunch of teenagers that know everything- but that is the only good thing I can say. If whomever owns Gameworks came up to me and said, "Oh yeah? If you know so much, then what would you do to fix the place?" I would say, "Clean it up, remodel it, make it more inviting and comfortable or close it down." It's that simple. Then I would give them a charlie horse, push them over and run away. 3.5 stars! Reviewing for the 'Play Your Way Thursday' where you pay $10 for all video games after 5pm. Went here last Thursday evening with a bunch of friends. It was really busy around 8:30 because all ages were allowed. But after 10pm it's 18+ over which was SO much better even though there were annoying 18 year olds around (maybe I'm just a grumpy lady, haha). There was this 'scary' game near the entrance.. I forgot the name. But you will wait 20-30 minutes for it because the game play actually takes THAT long. I waited patiently for my turn, but when I was playing I had annoying 18 year olds BANGING the seats bc they were waiting too long. Stupid girls.. I was waiting that long too. And I told them that but they just rolled their eyes. SMH.. little girls. I wouldn't have mind banging THEIR heads ( jk.. kinda) They should have a sign around there so people have expectations. TIP: It costs $2 for a card, so if you have one laying around at home, bring it! Or if you do buy one, keep it with you just in case you visit again. read more

Okay here's a question; how do you entertain a slightly jaded. prolific video gaming 11 year old who is in town to hang out with his uncle for the weekend? Easy. Get him hopped up on Cheetos and Root Beer, then head over to Gameworks. Despite almost being fooled by the big video display that read "Unlimited free play for three hours - $25" (but the small print said weekdays only - it cost me twice that amount), we immersed ourselves into the place with the same enthusiasm of a kitten in a catnip haze. I give Gameworks four stars for its selection of some pretty killer games, but two stars for it's greasy spoon style grub. I decided to try out a hamburger, and honestly I could have been eating at Denny's. If you dig Denny's, the cuisine in this place will impress the sock garters right off you. If you hate Denny's, then avoid the bar / restaurant; after all you could step outside, throw a tennis ball in any direction and hit a neighboring restaurant. The vibe of the place was energetic; no doubt fueled by all of the pre-pubescent latch key young ones who are dressing way too advanced for their age. Oops, I am starting to sound like a conservative old fogey. Let me rephrase that by saying that the young people that hang out here exude a stylistic choice that takes the sheen of youth, tarnishes it slightly and accelerates it into a realm 15 years their senior. My nephew and I had a blast playing some of the kookier games (Taiko no Tatsujin being one of them), but we really found our niche playing the "ticket winning" games. We racked up a boatload of tickets and cashed them in for cheap ass toys. However the smile on my nephew's face was priceless, so try as I might, I really can't knock Gameworks at all. I highly recommend it for spending a few hours with your kidspawn. read more

We waited patiently at a table after I had flagged someone down who told us to seat ourselves. We moved to the bar after no luck. All bartenders and the manager continued to ignore us as I clearly tried to get their attention with an "excuse me, excuse me." The bathroom are DISGUSTING and unclean, with toilet paper all over the wet floor, a dirty toilet seat, no soap, no paper towels. A fun afternoon was made lame really quickly. read more

Came here for a staff-outing and was pleased with the $50 worth of games for only $35 bucks, but was disappointed that one of the air hockey tables was broken, the busted dart boards, the dirty un-bussed tables, the broken bball games, and other broken games that I probably wouldn't have played but would have liked to at least have decided that for myself. That said, the Taiko drumming is awesome, (but in Japanese, so you have no idea if you're actually playing by the rules). The air-hockey table changes it up with a couple of minutes of 3-puck play which sends you into a puck-shooting frenzy, the big racing game that features live commentary is a blast, and there are plenty of shoot 'em up games and multiple versions of DDR. Oh, and this totally freaky giant-tarantula game that kind of gave me nightmares. I won't make it a habit of coming here often, but had an OK time while it lasted. read more

Today when I originally arrive at Gameworks, Phil is my bartender in which he provided a clear description of their menu. Phil provided a clear description of the hot wings and explained the opportunity in which the hot wings can be hotter and how to request of them. At which point I requested hot wings hotter and Phil was able to substantially provide hot wings that exceeded their current menu. At this point I was introduced to Tiffany, the bartender running the bar with a smile. Tiffany was able to introduce me to Elysian space a local IPA of Seattle, WA. Tiffany provides a wide array of support on local craft beer as well as the menu for Gameworks. Also, she is very popular with the locals based on her charisma and stunning good looks. As a visitor to Seattle, I felt like a local all night and I give credit to be staff, especially Tiffany. read more

This arcade is pretty one dimensional. The entire first floor is basically all racing games and a couple of other games where you can earn tickets, but as with any other arcade, it's pretty much impossible to get enough tickets to redeem anything "cool". The second floor is also filled with the same games -- all shooting games. Other than the special games like DDR, skeeball, claw machines and stuff like that, this place will get boring pretty quickly. read more

Gameworks always sounds like a good idea, in theory. But every time I decide to try it again I think to myself, why did I come here? It's not that Gameworks is totally extremely awful, I just can't justify the high prices for a few games. I was attracted to the bar upstairs, thinking there would be a larger crowd of "older folks", but it was totally desolate. It's great that the option is there, but if there are still only teenagers milling about in here, it loses the appeal. It's also always so hot in here. I understand this is probably from all the machines running and bodies moving around but the thick warm air just makes me feel like I'm breathing in tons of germs and bad B.O. It's a decent spot to shoot things in a totally safe way (i.e. Time Crisis) or get my fix of air hockey, but there are more local places to me that are a little less pricey that also involve laser tag, gokarts or mini golf. read more

I remember when I first moved out to Seattle - this place had the newest games, the best experiences. Kind of a more urban Dave and Buster's. Fast forward 20 years, and the place is just depressing to visit. Half the games don't work, the ones that do are 20+ years old or gambling machines where you can press a button to turn dollars into cheap dollar store junk. It's just a dump. So very sad. read more

It was our first time coming here to the Seattle location. Spoke with one of the staff asking about where to park and the staff said parking is FREE when we were getting ready to leave it go up to to staff member and ask her how the parking works and staff said I made a mistake I thought it was FREE and ended up paying for parking...... If you go to the game works in Seattle be prepared to pay for parking! And don't talk to the staff it's better to talk to the manager that knows what's going on. read more

Gameworks is pretty much like a Dave and Buster's. 20 bucks got me all you can play games within 3 hours, but I think this pricing is only eligible Monday through Fridays. The bar was pretty crowded, and it took a while to get a drink. The games here were pretty fun, except the fact that most machines were sticky (...from drinks). My fiance and I came here for a place to eat without spending too much money while we were here for sakura con. The server we had was great, but the food was the problem. We ordered a pizza and some nachos. Originally I had called ahead asking what size the pizza was and they said it was 16 inch for about 10 to 15 dollars but due to sakura con they were serving a pizza that was around 7in x 12in (rectangular pizza). We were excited until we got our food. The meat lovers pizza was a little 4in x 7in, hardly enough to split between 2 people, and the nachos were 12 dollars for a ton of chips with a little cheese and a couple small jalapeno slices. Not really worth it on the food half for either price or portion. The gaming half of it reminds me of a small dave and busters and also had a pc/console gaming area upstairs. This part was the only reason I am giving it more than one star. That half was a pretty cool place for a little family fun. read more

I do want to point out that their staff is pretty awesome, especially the tall skinny server guy (he looked like he was 19 or 20). He was friendly and attentive, even though our orders were sort of annoyingly customized. The games are plentiful, but i had two complaints. 1) it seemed like 20% of the games were out of commission when i went. What gives?? 2) we got 2 day passes but had trouble with some of the games with lots of levels because the card-scanner would require us to wait for ~160 seconds which sometimes was too long and forced us to lose the games. read more

Service was really slow even though it was a week night and not particularly packed. We waited for over 20 mins to get a combo platter. I am not a picky eater. I can pretty much stomach everything. Having said that, the only thing I liked was the chicken wings. Chicken tenders was dry, chips were not crispy, and worst of all, everything was cold. And this is gonna sound like a joke- even my Diet Coke was flat! Like not fizzy at all! Slow service might not be our waitress's fault but cold food certainly pointed to her direction. Discovered this place on a Sunday movie date with my bf. GameWorks is conveniently located next to the Regal Meridian so we were able to come right after finishing a movie next door. It's a fun and affordable way to extend your date night stopping by here. They have air hockey tables, basketball machines, DDR, and just your typical Dave and Buster's style of games (does anyone know what that is in Seattle?). They have prizes that can be redeemed in exchange for tickets. I wish that the basketball machines here gave out tickets. I was bummed to discover that they didn't give out any so we left the place with 0 tickets but we still had a lot of fun. I went with my significant other with a Groupon for an all day gaming pass this past weekend, and I had a great time. While the all day pass didn't allow me to play ticket games, the arcade games were a blast! Everything was in good repair, and it was a super fun time. I really channeled my inner kid. While there was a good selection of games, I wish there would have been a little more variety. However, the Japanese drum game would have been enough to entertain me for an entire evening on its own! I didn't have any of the food because of the prices; if I am going to spend $8 on a dessert, I will just walk next door to the Cheesecake Factory (and I did). This place was a shit show. We arrived and stopped at the bar where we received quick service. We bought the $37 dollar +$2 for a "card activation fee." This had 140-180 points (can't recall) on the card. Some games were as much as 25 points and most no lower than 5 points. Wish I could play the games we intended but they allow people to camp out on games FOREVER so that you don't even get a chance. It wouldn't be half bad if the games we did play actually lasted longer than 1 minute. Most machines didn't spit out tickets and we probably lost 40+ alone on the machine scanning our points but the game not playing. There were so many machines down, too. You could only load your card at a couple stands (one of which was down) or the cashier. GameWorks...stop trying to be Dave and Busters. It isn't working. read more

(Food Review!) Yes, I've played games here before, but today I am rating the food here. We sat at the bar area to watch the football game. It was nice that they had many TV's to accommodate all sides watching. Service was okay, wasn't too thrilled about the amount of wait time for everything including ordering our food and getting our drinks even. Food that we ordered: Chicken Nacho (thought it was happy hr, but NOPE only Mon-Fri guys) So we just paid the regular price, which is about 11 dollars. There's guacamole, beans, "melted" cheese, sour cream, and onions, tomatoes etc on there. I was not a fan of it at all. I expected to get a little more cheese, but it was dry and not as flavorful as I thought it sounded. (It's +$2 for meat) Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo was alright, the chicken had a blackened taste to it, but the cream sauce was really plain, AND they didn't have sides of breadsticks or anything. Not so thrilled, this dish is around 12 dollars. The foods comes from the upstairs restaurant, so expect to see your tray of food coming from elsewhere. read more

Normally slow, unenthusiastic service, filthy bathrooms/overall, and mediocre overpriced, underportioned food ALL made even worse when a large convention such as PAX or Comicon is going on. They do have alcohol (frequently served in plastic cups...WTF??) and video games, but the way this place is kept up, I'm afraid to play them. As we were leaving, we noticed the usually handy tipping guide on the original bill was there and correct for 15%, but the one on the receipt after running my card was 3x what the actual amount should be. Dirty pool, honest mistake or computer error? Hmmmm...never had that happen before. Not going back. Literally 4-5 years straight of being a 1-2 star place and I'm done with it. I never bought food there because it kinda looks like an adult bar on that side of the joint. Theres always a few games that are worth playing. There are a decent amount of games here. You'll be able to find something you like. I had to walk around for awhile to find the tennis game in the back corner of the upstairs area (near the basketball game with the actual ball, not an arcade) to settle down for awhile and use my points. I'm not a fan of the layout of the restaurant areas but I do appreciate the nicer lounge area for 21+. I also like how they kick out minors after 10pm haha. If youve never seen anyone actually good at Dance Dance Revolution, go here. It is weird and twisted and I couldnt look away. Then I wanted to try... We won some money on those scratch off lotto tickets and came here after our lunch at Serious "fur" Pie. There was this pair of brothers that looked and dressed the same, but one big and one small. And their dancing. It was like watching ad hoc riverdance. So fast! So weird! As for the other games, they were fine. A lot of asians playing driving games and a room filled with the old school favorites like Frogger and Space Invaders. Between a 3 and a 4 star. read more

Back in the good old days [anyone remember freeloader Thursdays where everything was buy-one-get-one?] Gameworks was my favourite place. It was probably about the Summer of 2000: There was one version of DDR, and my older cousins Suzanna and Emily had just returned from Japan. So we went, and we played the bloody hell out of that machine. And all was good. The promotions started getting worse, but by the time I was a junior in high school my friend Angela and I had become addicted to the crack-in-game-form, Derby Owner's Club. DOC was great until the mob of people whose lives actually are directly correlated to their horses' rankings took over. After getting tired of having to camp the machine for an hour waiting for someone old enough to be my grandpa to have to pee [and he tried to save his seat, what a jerk!] we finally gave up on that too. After finding out they have a real, live purikura machine I gave it another go. I love purikura, as does any vain girl who loves pictures of herself decorated with way too much glitter and a "UFO game," background [crane games, in the states]... but the last five or six times I've gone to Gameworks, the machine has been down. Now, the only saving graces are Love and Berry [which is actually horrible but I still have some draw to it...], Tekken 5 [Xiao Yu is hot, you know it] and Taiko no Tatsujin [but I'm addicted to j-pop, so yeah...]. I'm tired of DDR, and having the 23rd edition isn't a big draw for me. That doesn't change the fact I still have about $60 worth of credit waiting for if/when the purikura machine is in working order. Le sigh. Maybe next year... I haven't been here in quite some time. I came here to hang with friends for a birthday. I bought a $20 card, which is 100 gaming credits. There's also a $2 activation fee for new cards. Several games were broken or out of order. Also, during the time I was there, it was so unbelievable hot in there-I was sweating. They didn't turn on the AC to cool it down until an hour later. One of my friends got hungry, so we headed to the bar. Food was ok, service was ok. Overall, I don't know if I would come back anytime soon. read more

My friend and I took her son of 5 to gameworks today. Unfortunately, as we were walking in the door a man (completely out of his mind) basically pummeled right through us! The staff was already in the midst of removing him from the premises and were so kind and apologetic. They immediately made sure we were ok and comped all of our food, drink and game cards which was totally unnecessary but very appreciated! I don't like how complicated they made the purchase of cards to play games. I do like how I spent like $30 and got $65 worth of credits. Keep in mind the more you spend, the more you get. So if you are a local and can see yourself coming back (like me) maybe you should spend an extra $15 and stock up. Beware, the cards are demagnetized VERY easily. Do not put them near blackberries, other cards with a magnetic strip, or anything even slightly magnetic. The games were pretty good. They have definitly gotten some of the newer generation games with nice screens, but unfortunitly many of them have bad burn-in/ghosting. They have a bar area where they serve adult bevvys for you to make that zombie slaughtering just a bit more fun. Take the bus because parking sucks down here. read more

I used to spend hours and hours and hours here, DDRing my ass off, playing the truck driving game, shooting zombies, pretending I was skiing.. you get the picture. That was 2004. The last six months have been a different story. Every time I stop by for an arcade fix, half of the machines (okay maybe not half, but still) are broken, the DDR pads are cracked and don't register your feet, they gave up the front half of the space to turn into their "sports bar" area.. it just.. isn't the same. DO NOT GO HERE! I have been to game works many times, but last night was the last straw. It used to be okay place to go with the family or a cheap date. There sports bar has over priced beer more then the stadiums or local venues. They keep on taking out all the good games and not replacing them. Has anyone noticed the large hole in the middle thats round. That used to be a fun four story ballon game. Last night I was hungry I stopped at the new chipotle in DT. I walked down the few blocks to game works to meet friends that were already playing games. I started to walk through the bar area. I got about five feet and I was acknowledged by a worker (I never got his name or his position) didn't even to bother to greet me or say hi he just told me that I could not eat outside food in there. I told him that I was going into the Gameworks. He again rudely told me to leave with my food. I then walked out side and walked around to the Gameworks entrance. He again met me at the the doorway and told me to leave. He was extremely rude this time, and told me not to come back tonight. I then had to call my friends and ask them to leave because this a-hole would not let me in and he was staring me down at the door. I did nothing wrong. I had five bites left of a burrito I was trying to finish. read more

This is the perfect downtown spot to hang out at if you're waiting for a movie to start at the Meridian or Pacific Place - or you know, just if you're bored and jonesin' for some video game goodness. It's not always filled with kids - there's actually a decent mix of ages in here, which I'm sure the multiple bars help with! It's super easy to grab a few drinks and snacks, and then drunk-play pinball, DDR, or my personal favorite: Air Hockey. Their happy hour is a pretty good deal if you're a fan of all things deep fried (altho I can't find/remember hours or prices for HH anywhere!) - plus, they do tend to error on the side of the booze when pouring. But the real reason this place gets 4 stars is this: They still keep a row of old-school 80s games, and they have BOTH Ms. Pacman and DIG DUG! I only come here for the Japanese drum game that's located by the DDR machines. I don't even know the name of this game since the title -- and the entire game itself -- is in Japanese. Thankfully, language barrier isn't an issue here. Whether you're furiously beating your faux taiko drum to a J-Pop song or The Nutcracker Suite, this game alone will give you a reason to drop by Gameworks. And I have a popped callous on my right hand to prove it. read more

I love video games. Yes, I own 3 or more gaming systems, not including my PC. Yes, I own more then 100 video games and avidly seek more even though I need to beat about half the games I already own. Yes, I know it's an addiction and my friends easily help fuel it. And yes, I LOVE Gameworks! Thankfully these places started sprouting up a few years ago, like "Dave and Busters", "Jillian's", and "Gameworks". Japanese style video arcades with a touch of American video arcades. Adding to it a decent grill and a bar and you have a fun night of drinking and gaming ahead of you. This isn't quite the arcade I hung out in college. It's well lit, open-area, filled with tons of new games, and there are tons of people that come here at night. Remember your card because late night lines to get in can be a pain. Just run up to a machine and throw more points on. The bar staff is slow and the bar crowd is the typical annoying meat-seeking bar crowd, so just push through, slam a few and head back down for some marathon gaming. Most machines open up quick, with few machine hogs, and most machines are operational. Good games for the most part. Too many racing games for my taste and they were missing the great punching game where you put on the gloves. But they do have a fun balloon game you get strapped into, a hang-gliding game, and a tekken VR booth. Nice skee ball and hoops area upstairs. With a great air hockey table that does multi-puck! What's nice is they have a few areas with some old-style games that tend to be further away from the noise of the new ones. Smart set up. A nice touch is that all ages are welcome till 10pm and then it is 18 and older. read more

Oh Gameworks. I remember my first visit, many years ago. There was some giant hot air balloon game that you actually sat in a chair that took you up to the ceiling and down to the floor while you played. SO FUN. Why did you kill it? Now I come here to watch my boyfriend play Street Fighter (I'm a cougar now, did ya know?). It's kind of an adult arcade with lots of snot-nosed creatures running around as well.. it's nicer at night when the 18 or 21+ rule kicks in. Not all of the machines work at 100%, which is frustrating. When I pay $4 to experience a racing game that slings you around, and I don't get slung around because the seatbelt monitor isnt working and it thinks Im trying to kill myself, I get sad. The game cards get iffy too- if it stops being read by machines, you have to get in a long line to swap it out for a new one. I steer clear of the DDR scene now... these new kids are skinny and pale and won't let go of the cheater bar even when the songs ends.. it's a little creepy. read more

Overall, I think that this place is a rip off. $2 to activate a card, but they put a few extra points on to compensate for the fee, really not cool, talk about nickle and dimming people to death. The only part that didn't feel like a huge rip off was their food. The food was not bad, and at a decent price. They seemed to have a lot of games out of service, and a handful of the working ones did not seem to be working the best that they could either. I am not one to complain about a place being too hot, the warmer the better for me, but this place was WAY too hot, even for me. I had to leave several times just to take a break and cool off. They had an amazing prize area, but they did not really have a lot of ticket machines/games to win tickets on, so the prize area seemed more for show to me. We were a few tickets off, and it would have been nice to pay the extra money to get what the kids wanted, instead we spent several more minutes finding a compromise over something that they actually wanted. I had a groupon, so that made it worth my while, but I will not be going out of my way to go there, it was fun, but not that great. I'm glad that we went, but overall I was not impressed. FYI, I would NOT park in the garage next to them. I would find a street parking lot that is not covered, way cheaper, there is one on Olive, and 8th I believe, and it's maybe a min. or two to walk there. read more

I've been to Gameworks before, and had an absolute blast. My most recent trip was fun, but definitely left something to be desired. Being a closet nerd, I really do love playing all the many different games that this place has to offer. What I don't like is when a machine happily takes swipes of my gamecard but doesn't actually use the credit toward the game. Instead, I'm just down credits. When I plan a fun day out with my brother to a mega arcade, I'd love it if half the games weren't on hiatus. That was a bummer. Hopefully next time will be better. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. SO OUTDATED, DIRTY, AND GROSS. My boyfriend and I were in Seattle for a week. We had went here because it was close to our hotel, and thought it would be fun- like a Dave & Busters. We went there at about 730pm, and purchased the 3 hrs unlimited game cards for $22/each. Not bad. It was a Wednesday night, so there were only a handful of other people in the place. We walked around a little, and played one or two games before eating. The menu at the restaurant looked decent; standard food. Burgers, nachos, wings, etc. We got the deep fried mac & cheese, I had the BBQ Chicken Sandwich and my boyfriend got the Philly CheeseSteak and asked for fried onions on it. We were expecting the mac & cheese balls to be basically macaroni and oozey cheese. NOPE. It was basically macaroni salad fried in a ball. They weren't hot, there was NO cheese, and had some salami in it or something. Not good. As for our main dishes, after our first bites we looked at each other and thought WTF. There was NO FLAVOR at all in either of our dishes. Like, none whatsoever. And the Philly didn't have the onions on it. And the fries? They tasted like instant potatoes covered in salt and freezer burn (except instant potatoes have more flavor than these). We couldn't even finish half of our dishes. When we were waiting for the bill, my boyfriend spotted a mouse near the door way to the kitchen area. I couldn't believe it. When the waiter came over, my boyfriend said "Hey uhh... you know you have mice in here?" The waiter responded "Oh hahahahaha yeah man you saw one? I know. We had the exterminator here a couple times but I don't know. There's a couple of em we see running around here." Our mouths literally DROPPED. We regrettably paid $65 for the crappy food and went to play some video games. All of the arcade games are SO old and outdated. Literally they are probably all from the mid 90s/early 00s. A handful of them didn't even work. and the ones that did were pretty unbearable. I can't believe we wasted over $100 at this place. We should have really just walked out without paying for the poor excuse of the food and took an L on the $44 for the 3 hours of games.
