I've picked up free redemption codes through Gamestop before for Pokémon shiny codes (or event codes). It's never been an issue before to swing in and grab a free code (which the Pokemon Company AND Gamestop advertise it as), even a day or two after release. This time the code was for Scarlet/Violet, Shiny Miraidon/Koraidon depending on which version of the game you have. Get to this location shortly after opening (on 9/26/25) and it's ridiculously busy with people all in line trying to buy new Pokémon cards (and possibly Magic?). That's fine- however, we then learn that we are *REQUIRED* to spend $15 in order to get the *free* code. I understand one per person, that's entirely fair...but these are supposed to be free. I watched a young man get turned away because he didn't have money, he asked if he could show them his switch to prove he has played this game and loves it; he wasn't rude, he wasn't a re-seller, he was just a guy who loves his Pokemon game. He didn't have $15 to spend for his free code and they told him they couldn't help him because the District Manager told them that morning that people must spend $15 to get the code, to avoid re-sellers (5 minutes prior to this, another guy was irritated and insisted on the fact they're supposed to be free and she handed him two codes because she didn't want to "argue over a piece of paper". What?? She apologized and was mostly kind, but I can't understand the idea that this is okay. If I had chosen to be rude, would I have gotten my code for free? Neither employee was rude to us, the gentleman who rang us out for something we didn't want was quick and kind about it but this can't actually be allowed.. when we left I saw that same young man outside in absolute tears because he was turned away (and shouldn't have been). I hope he is able to somehow get his code, I gave mine to my younger brother (who is stuck at school) or I'd have given him mine. Most of the people in the store wanted to buy cards, and based on the way they were acting about it I am certain they are in fact re-sellers. So how is it a deterrent when those people are already spending enough money to get the code? Something doesn't seem right here. I went ahead and called the Clackamas store to inquire if we needed to spend money to get a code (so I could try to get one for myself since I gave mine to my brother) and they told me no, you just have to come in to the store and it's one per person. These stores should have the same District Manager..so who is lying? I won't be spending money at the Eastport location anymore because I don't think the manager there was being truthful.. I also work retail and I know that things can be cruddy sometimes, but I don't lie to people so my store gets more money and Pro Sign-Ups ‍ read more

Not particularly a fan of the current manager at this location, but I do believe that GameStop is a good company. One of my favorite employees from here no longer works at the location so now I would have to visit other malls to get the games and merch that I want. read more

9/20/2023. Terrible business. I arrived here at 8:35pm on a Wednesday night and the doors were already locked. The person behind the counter made a hand gesture that they're closed even though the sign on the door says that they close at 9pm on weekdays as well as the website. If management or corporate sees this this review I hope they look into who was working the evening shift on 9/20/2023 and see that they closed the store down earlier despite actual closing hours listed on the door. read more

I had another issue at another game stop location across town and called this location (long story) and got in touch with Sam, the store manager. Not only did Sam listen to my issue, he helped me out by taking my issue seriously and getting the right person contacted to address the situation. When I got a dead end response from corporate email, I don't think I would've had resolution without Sam helping me. He said they care a lot about return customers at this location & I have to believe that's true based on my experience. Will gladly shop this location when in the area. Not exactly sure what the point of having business hours stating they're open until 8pm is. Showed up to the store at 6pm and a crappy sign is taped to the door saying they close at 530pm. I came to the nearest Gamestop to return an online item. The website said opens at 11:00am but the store hours says 12:00pm. The sales guy came out and ask if it was a delivery. I said no I have a return and asked are you guys open at 11:00am like the website stated. He points at the sign and says 12:00pm and shrug me off. He asked what I have to return and said I can only do it online. I said the return email states to drop off at a local store. He said nope, can only do it online and said the website also stated 11:00am opening. Very rude and not helpful person. read more

I do not play video games because I'm a mom that has zero time for fun... but I have great kids that love video games so I go to my neighborhood GameStop. This store is pretty small but it's very well organized and clean. Most of the staff have been very helpful with all of my questions even though it gets pretty busy at this location. I would not recommend going on weekends or when kids are right out of school. A few times I had to return and exchange games or console extras and they have been very nice and happily helped me until we were satisfied. I'm sure I'm not the best person to review a video game store but I feel the need to show my appreciation to all the nice people who work here. It's not easy making a living in retail and I don't think all the old reviews are very fair. read more

I visit this GameStop often as it's the nearest one to me. Every single time I go in the employees are patient with my questions or willing to explain things to me, even when I seem to be asking dumb questions. When I went in a month too early to pick up a preorder they didn't give me a hard time, or tease me about it. I ordered my son's Turtle Beach headphones online, thinking that I selected the pick up at store option. I instead chose the delivery option. I called the store a little irritated and proceeded to try and complain about the mistake I made. I was short and curt at first with the completely nice sales associate Cesar. This employee was very kind and calm with me being very impatient with him for no reason other than my own error. He literally killed me with kindness!!! I snapped out of my funk and apologized to him. I thanked him for his help and he apologized for the confusion. Long story short, although my online experience wasn't the best, user error, the customer service was EXCELLENT!!! Thank you Cesar. So I went in there to get Assassin's Creed Odyssey gold steel book and the only one they had left was on the shelf, open, for a $109.99. The guy who tried to sell it to me showed me the disc in the counter inside of a slip case and there were fingerprints all over the disc. I'm not paying a $109.99 for a used copy of a game that they're trying to pawn off as new. Once its opened and you got your fingerprints all over that disc, the game is used. I am not paying a $109.99 for a used game that your false advertising as new. It's no longer new when you open it and your fingerprints are all over the disc. Game stop has officially lost my business due to their shady business practices and false advertising. I am no longer shopping there. I went online and bought the same game, brand new and still in its original packaging from Best Buy online, so I will no longer be shopping at game stop ever again. I doubt I will ever shop at GameStop after my experience today. My girlfriend and I often eat at a dim sum restaurant (HK Cafe) next to this particular GameStop. There is always a long wait so we typically go to GS and look around. Sometimes we buy a game, sometimes we don't, but I've purchased at least five games there. So earlier today, being the day after New Years there was a 45 minute wait so, as usual, we went over to GS and began looking around. As we were browsing, a couple friends came in so we started talking to them. After about ten minutes, an employee (a guy that looked to be in his 30s, with jet black goth/punk-style hair, and a closely trimmed beard) loudly asked us to move away from the counter. Obviously that is a totally legitimate request, and one which normally wouldn't give me pause. However, it was the manner and volume at which he said it that was bordering on outrageous. Specifically, he stated: "Can you all not stand by MY counter. I know you're just waiting for HK Cafe." He practically yelled this, and did it as he was walking away from us. It was in such a rude manner that literally everyone in the store turned to see what was happening. Stunned, I loudly responded that he should work on his customer service. He muttered some patronizing response but I honestly didn't hear his exact words because we were all so taken aback by his rudeness that we decided to leave. On our way out (as I was putting a game that I had planned to buy back on the shelf), the rude employee yelled at us across the store (again in a super patronizing manner) to "have a nice meal at HK Cafe!" Having worked in the service industry throughout college and a few years after, I typically give workers A LOT of room to be frustrated and even a bit impatient with customers. But this employee's behavior was so far outside the bounds of acceptable civility that I felt compelled to write this review, which I've only done on a couple other occasions. I hope this guy gets some sort of reprimand because now that I can buy games for my Xbox One online, I have zero incentive to shop at GameStop. After today, I definitely will not shop there. read more

Went into this Eastport branch to buy a switch with the red and blue controllers. It was pretty busy as are most stores on Black Friday, but it was later in the day so not overwhelmingly crowded. I stood in line waiting, just to ask a question and hopefully score a switch. I get to the counter and ask if they had the switch with the blue and red controllers. They did! I was pretty stoked at this point, so I said I'll buy it. Just drop $300 right then and there. The guy then said I had to buy an accessory or a game with it if I wanted to buy it. I just gave him the "are you kidding me?" glare and said I didn't want a game or needed and accessory, just the console. He said it was a bundle deal I had to buy. So after all of that, I turned and started to find my daughter in the store so we can leave and a lady behind the desk said I could even just buy a screen saver thing, I ignored her, got my daughter and left. Went across the lot to Walmart, back to their electronics section and plopped down the $300 for the switch I wanted....granted, I'd rather spend my money at Gamestop than Walmart, but seemed that Gamestop didn't want my money. If I wanted an accessory, or a game, I'd have bought it, but all I wanted was the system. Don't make customers buy more than they want or need. Listen to them. They are your bread and butter. read more

I'd rank lower if I could. I pre-ordered a game here a while ago supposed to come out tonight. I was told that the line starts at 6 and they hand out the game at 9, and was told nothing else. So never having done this before, I figured i'd come right after 9, after most folks were gone. Well, I was never told that they close immediately after(I came at 9:10 and saw the employees snickering at my misfortune). I don't know what's up with the previous poor ratings of this GameStop, but I have nothing but great things to say about them. Let me give you some backstory...after the much anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch and the new Legend of Zelda release, it was near impossible to find it anywhere in the Portland metro area. I called ahead and Chris gave me some great information on how to hook me up with the new digs via an online ordering bundle they were doing in store. I drove to the store, which was not too busy, and proceeded to spend a little under an hour there with Chris ironing out the details of my order; he was so patient with all of my questions and made sure I got the best deal possible. In addition to being a source of information regarding my order, he was also super friendly and kind. The other person who was working there, I believe her name was Hannah, was also really friendly and helped me pick out some more merch while Chris was putting the finishing touches on my order. I was told the order would ship to the store by mid April, but super wonderful surprise - it was ready about a week and a half after I ordered it. I got a very nice call from Chris himself saying everything was all set and ready for pick up (cue happy dance!) VERY happy with this GameStop, it's employees, and especially my new Switch! read more
