Like someone else mentioned this is the Blockbuster of video games. I remember coming here every weekend for new games, trading games, and seeing what deals they have. Was getting confusing return policy information online so decided to give this location a call and they answered promptly and instantly the gentleman was able to assist me with the correct information. Later that week I stopped by to complete my return and the whole time staff was very polite and assisted me with questions I had about other products. The sad reality is everything is easier to get online, but they are fighting to stay open and provide great customer service. read more

They won't process legitimate returns without the district manager's direct approval. And that person never answers their phone. My item was unopened with purchase receipt and return confirmation email from GameStop.com and they refused me and said go to another location. So don't bother trying to return anything here. Horrible customer service. The manager should lose their job. read more

Horrible customer service, the sales associate Danny is so rude. I came there for my sons birthday and the guy doesn't even acknowledge you, acts all annoyed he has to even ring you up and when I had to come back a return a defective Nintendo he's rude again. 30 year old looking man acting like a teenager who doesn't even want to be there. Then a year later were back for my sons birthday and this guy is the same exact way. Barely says a word, when I say thank you he just stares and says nothing totally rude. Hopefully, this guy never runs up in a leadership position because he has terrible traits for any type of leadership or management position. Do you remember Blockbuster and movie rental places were popular back in the day? When we all had VHS players and you had to make sure to rewind your rental when you return it? Or how about Tower Records where we would go buy music on tapes, and towards the end cds? Those stores lost the battle to online competition and other factors. Unfortunately that is where places like GameStop are headed. I've seen more and more GameStop locations close right before my eyes both in SF and Oakland. Specialty shops that focus on video games and novelty items are tougher to keep open with online competitors and all the overhead. Which is a real drag, because it's sad to see stores like this not stay open. For myself I grew out of playing video games a long time ago but I appreciate the good customer service at this particular store. I ended up purchasing one of those Funko Pop bobble heads. All that being said, I hope GameStop continues to be able to stay in business and thrive. read more

Great service as always by Johnny and his staff. Always goes above and beyond whenever I need help with something. My most recent visit I was bummed that my Xbox 1 Halo Edition had issues and I needed a power brick. He made sure everything was perfect. I pre-ordered a game for my kids and I was in and out in a timely fashion. It's hard getting good service so when you do get it you really appreciate it. Huge thanks to the manager at this Gamestop Johnny who always provides over the top customer service. On my 11-27-20 visit, I wanted to take advantage of a Black Friday deal on a PS5 game. Johnny and his staff went out of his way to look for the game in his shipment and have his staff call me as soon as it was found. Any other store would've told me to call back. Also, I complained about not getting the gamecoin for pre-ordering a game at another location and picking it up there. He made a note in his computer so that i could use the credit whenever I wanted. Gamestop is one of the best places locally for video games. They have Everything! XBOX, PlayStation, Nintendo, PC, you name it (because i don't know that many game companies)! Also, the staff is really nice! They let beginners test out Pokemon, shooting, and brand new games! I don't know why other reviewers had a bad experience with this shop, it's probably the game stop they went to, not every Gamestop is bad. They have new and old, high and low prices, and stacks of stacks of games! They have stacks of XBOX, PlayStation, Nintendo, cases, some of the special games don't have games in them because they give them to you at the end. I'm 8 and a gamer and highly recommend this shop! read more

As a Game Stop employee (I don't even know if I'm allowed to mention that, but whatever), let me address something that's been mentioned below before I get to my review; yes, we get a shipment of games in, and we keep them all shrink-wrapped, ready to sell, except for one copy. That game case is used to display we indeed have the game in stock, and the game itself is IMMEDIATELY put into a protective slip cover and stored until it is the last copy of the game to be sold. So yes, it is in fact a new game, that's never been scratched or handled for more than a second until it is purchased. And no, we do not steal preorder bonuses from people who have preordred games for the said bonuses. At least I don't, and my coworkers don't. So with all due respect, please don't bash on something you're not entirely correctly informed about. Now I don't work at this Game Stop, but I have to say, damn guys, could you be any more unwelcoming? The few times I've wandered in here to peruse the offerings at this store the guys behind the counter barely acknowledge your presence and make it obvious they'd rather be working somewhere else. When they do speak to you it's often a bit snotty or in a just plain uninterested manner. I will admit everything is really clean and organized, and I've found some things here I haven't seen in other Game Stops, but that's not enough to get me to come back here unless I really need something or want something they have while I'm in the area. I'm not a gamer but hubs is. I really don't have much reasons to go here unless my hubs asked me to or if I'm with him. Been here a few times and never really had bad customer service. This place is quite small, a bit disorganized at times. it shares a parking a lot with the rest of the stores around the area. I think I'm not a fan of this location because of the customers who come to this place. the kids stink.... the parents or adults are bickering and sometimes cheating with waiting in the line etc. ugh! annoying read more

I have been a loyal GameStop member since I was about 15 years old. I've preordered games from them every year at least once since I joined. I've always been a little annoyed with them, because of their trade in prices and all that, but today was a different story. Being a huge baseball fan I always preorder the MLB The Show for that year, this year being no different. I had been hearing that stores were staying open until 9pm to release this game since that's when the servers will be online. I called two times today: 1st call, I ask if the game will be available today like other locations. I was told no, it will be available 10am tomorrow morning. After thinking about it I realized I could get the game digitally and also be able to play at 9pm. 2nd call, I ask if they refund preorders. They say yes, and ask what game I'm calling about. When I say The Show, they respond "that comes out tomorrow". That's when I tell them that since they aren't releasing it tonight, I'd like to receive my refund so I can just go digital instead. The store manager, Patrick, agrees to give me the game at 7:30pm. When I walk into the store and tell them why I'm there, everyone in the store knew exactly who I was and started throwing dirty looks my way. Patrick goes in the back and grabs the game. Then proceeds to lecture me like I'm a middle schooler about how I can't be "threatening" to take profits from his store. Started throwing a pity party for his store talking about how it's low on income (not really any of my business). After about 5-7 minutes of lecturing I was allowed to leave with my copy. Hence the only reason for the 1 star. I would much rather drive across the bridge to go to GameStop than visit this location ever again. They lost a loyal customer today. read more

Been here 2 days in a row going to be 3 tomorrow. It's PlayStation's Days of Play right now & this location is the only one with the games I want. ($20 each) I came from the Richmond & El Cerrito Plaza locations & came up empty handed. I went online to have them hold the games for me. Walked in then walked out. Parking is easy. I didn't know people still sell consoles/games/hardware to them... There's craigslist & apps for that. Anyways. Annoyed with being lied to. Called asking about the Nintendo Switch (yes I know it's in high demand). Associate on the phone was very pleasant and told us we could come into the store to pre-order the switch and that when it came in they would mail it to me or notify me. This was great news as I had just called Best Buy and they told me that I just had to keep checking in on stock. So all happy and excited to just be on wait we drove down to GameStop. Got there and an associate at the door asked us if we needed any help. Why yes we wanted to pre-order a switch. He said great if you stand in line we can help. Got to the counter and the associate at the counter was dumbfounded by our wanting to pre-order. And looked at us as if we were idiots for asking, we then explained how we just called and were told about pre-ordering the switch. He just looked at us and said no it's sold out, if you called I would've told you that. What? Not mad that we didn't get a switch, it's in high demand we get it. But don't lie to me on the phone then treat me terribly when I waste 2 gallons of gas driving to the store to be let down. Thanks but you lost any future business. Jony was awesome, went to store first thing in the morning and about 8 other people were in their and everyone left with a smile on their face and happy with their purchases. I went in with some trade-ins and got a second system. Jony was able to provide wonderful customer service and was very knowledgeable and he just made it a wonderful experience. Additionally, he provided the wrong price for a number of items and I didn't find out about it until check out. As a result, I went over to Best Buy and spent over $500 there instead. I remember when GameStop used to have knowledgeable employees who were passionate about gaming. It's the only reason I'd take a trip to GameStop despite not having much competition for convenience or price. When I roll into this place asking for an item they have on the website and she pulls another item and doesn't know the difference between two different controllers, then realizes their system is not up to date and it's actually out of stock.... wow you're losing on experience, price, and convenience hardcore.... Unbelievable service at this store. I would give it 10 stars if possible. Jake went out of his way to save me $100 when trying to sell my iPad. My option was to take cash or store credit. Since I do not shop at Gamestop, I opted to take the cash. Jake became creative and said I could substitute gift cards, in addition to the cash, which appealed to me since they had a rack of retail gift cards to select from. Jake impressed me with his customer satisfaction acumen. Although I am not a frequent customer of this store, I was impressed w/ their customer satisfaction service and will recommend others from my experience. read more

Everyone knows how Gamestop rips off customers as a whole when it comes to buying used games and selling used games to undercut sales of new games, hurting the industry as a whole. The company's practices are shady enough, without this location's incompetent or unethical employees making things worse. Employees will sell you games that they have opened and used as 'store demos' as new, and claim that it is the last one. This practice has got to be illegal. Moreover, they will steal pre-order items, claim they were never received, and in the latest round of BS, claim that you have to buy the expensive premium version to get it. These guys are con artists and completely unethical. Now there's word out there that corporate treats them like crap, but it's no excuse for them to treat customers that way. ***EDITED*** After some time, I've found that the staff has improved considerably. The assistant manager is better, and the staff are all in all quite friendlier. Still issues with 'open games' and stock, but things are better. read more

Just called 3 times to ask if The Witcher is in stock. First time i called, someone told me to wait, i waited 7 mins and hung up to call again. Second time i called, someone told me to wait, i waited 6 mins and hung up to call again. This is the BEST Gamestop I have ever been to! Most Gamestops have employees that seemingly have 0% videogame knowledge and makes me wonder how they got a job there in the first place. Not this one. Every employee has been 100% helpful, LOVES gaming and if they dont know something they ask another co-worker who does. They have helped me with a lot of purchase problems with no hassle. Nothing but good memories from this store. Their midnight releases even get a pretty big crowd out front. Anytime I go to another Gamestop, the moment i try and speak to an employee I immediately regret not being patient enough to come back to this one...but lesson learned! I dont know why people seem to hate this place so much, I feel bad that they had such a bad experience. =( I am a big PS3 nut and my brother is an X-Box fan (what can you do?, oh well) and this is the ONLY location we love going to. The other Gamestops are pretty junky, the sales associates arent really interested in assisting you. Here, I usually go mid-day and the sales associate Lu helps me. He actually knows the games, makes suggestions. Tells me I can bring it back within 7 days and buy pre-owned so I can change it out if I dont like it. When there is a game I really like, I pre-order it and am invited to the stores release party event and get a cool limited edition poster. I have gone to other game stores but I love this one so much I've decided to just keep going back here. I've got all my fav's from here Modern Warfare 2- Call of Duty Black Ops Modern warfare 3 (bought it on pre-sale and got an awesome poster for the bro) Assassins Creed, 2, Brotherhood Uncharted 2 and many more. Most of the COD's were new because you cant ever find them used but the preowned games I have are all great. read more

Instead of trying to upsell me on an Xbox 360 Slim internal hard drive, the guy at the store helped me figure out how to pull out my original Xbox 360 hard drive and put it into a slim hard drive case. The guy even guessed that I was doing this so I could play Battlefield 4. In short, I was impressed by the clerk's knowledge, sympathy, and willingness to work with me on a solution. This is the GameStop that led to me christening the chain "GameHole." The place is often dirty and messy, and the staff is usually either ignoring the phone or having too much fun behind the counter. Once, when I was there, I was treated to this entertaining melodrama: a guy was there to buy a used PS2 to replace his that had gotten stolen. Pawn shop for kids! I always feel bad when I see some kid standing in line to trade 8 different games in for the newest and greatest, only to see him come back a week later and sell the same game for 1/3 of what he paid for it. The staff here are completely and utterly unhelpful, often misinforming customers and selling damaged used goods. I would skip all the drama and just head over to best buy. At least there you don't have to deal with a bunch of used car salesman in training! read more

ALL BAD!!!!!!!! I went to Gamestop because my brother told me they carried accessories for Asus tablets. I find one, a pink one, and its less than 20 bucks. I grab it, pay for it and im out the store. Fast forward 15 min, and i decide i dont want it. It was a sleeve and what I wanted was a case. I bring it to the Gamestop on Broadway and they said they wouldnt take it because turns out my sleeve had the wrong price sticker on it. The price sticker was ringing up for a Nintendo DS accessory and since clearly thats not what i had, they wouldnt take it. This Gamestop is pretty tiny, located in the plaza near Best Buy, Pet Club, Sports Authority. I like shopping there, it's definitely less crowded than the Bay street location, with PLENTY of parking. I love trading in my games there. No line most of the time unlike other Gamestops. Staffs are pretty friendly and helpful. Their used games selection is not as wide as the bigger Gamestops, prollie because it's smaller and less people trade games there. But overall, it serves my gaming needs :) read more

Gamestop's website lists this location as open until 9pm on Sunday. My boyfriend and I were doing our research to better plan our trip and looked this up before heading out around 7pm. We arrived at about 7:10 and lights were on though doors were locked and the sign said they close at 6pm on Sundays. It is just too bad that gamestop as a company has failed to ensure consistent information. The next day I stopped at the Berkeley Gamestop and shared with the employee there the unusual occurrence, and he agreed that this store should have been open until 9pm for Christmas hours. read more
