I needed to find a wood carver and museum quality restoration expert having recently locally purchased my "Rosebud" quest for 50 years: a large 19th century, German, coin operated, mechanical music box in a 130 year old walnut cabinet sitting on a matching disc storage cabinet. The music box cabinet had some issues- some side panel and door warpage so that the door did not come close to closing, overall dull finish compared to the storage cabinet, missing the top pediment, bubbled veneer, trim molding glued on badly in earlier repair, cracked trim, large cracks in the back soundboard and the top soundboard (negatively effecting the sound), a missing dovetailed walnut coin drawer with lock, and a missing dovetailed, intricately fitting and scalloped walnut and glass dust cover for the motor. My plan was to have the music box cabinet "machine out" restored, while the motor was being cleaned and lubed by another craftsman. Boris gave me an extremely fair and reasonable estimate for all the "lost art specialty" work to be done. While he is a warm, friendly and humble man, he exudes confidence and ultra "having his act together". You'll know you've come to the right place, the moment you enter his organized shop and see the magnificent, one of a kind wood carved creations he has made for 40 years, since he apprenticed in the "Old Country" before moving to America 30 years ago. There is nothing he can't do with wood, and his precise measurements and engineering. And he has binders of photos of his creations that establish his creds. His work ethic is like you don't find here anymore- 6 days a week and about 10 hours a day. And he will be finished in the time he tells you, or even sooner in my case. I couldn't believe how fast, considering the amount of work. My job, was a relative walk in the park for Boris, more in line with furniture restoration, although the job he did on fabricating the dove-tailed walnut coin drawer and scalloped, wood and glass dust cover- exactly mimicking the originals I found in reference pictures, and carving for the top pediment, could not be done by an ordinary "furniture repair/ refinisher". Also, the door was severely warped and would not close. Boris made magical adjustments so that it closes perfectly and installed period mortise locks exactly centered and carved, that look like originals. That's the difference between a museum quality restorer (what Boris did in his native country) and a refinisher/repairer. He restores and keeps everything original that he can, not just slapping on stain and spraying lacquer. I'll let these project pictures speak for themselves. If you're a straight shooter, honest person, looking for a wood carving artisan and a fine human being as well, and you're not looking to cheat a craftsman, and you just want to get a project done beautifully for the price you agree to pay, go see Boris. If you're a jerk or trying to cheat an artist and good man--- please go somewhere else.

My grandfather had a crazy idea: he wanted to create a display board for my horse show ribbons,…read morewith a hand-carved headboard. He asked my uncle, an artist (Craig Pursley, check him out), to find someone who could create a custom headboard and my uncle found Boris via Google search and his website. I picked up my grandfather and drove him to Boris' shop. As we walked in, we saw amazing carvings, from delicate landscapes to giant tables. The back room was the workshop and there was a large tree trunk awaiting Boris' attention. We explained the idea and immediately Boris started sketching a few thoughts. He explained different options for materials, color, and design, all very patiently (neither my grandfather nor I are artsy). My grandfather was very impressed by his knowledge and expertise. He's an 89-year-old Italian so respect isn't something he offers easily. Boris sent me the fully-sketched design later that evening. We discussed the font for the text a bit and he was very open to suggestions. A few weeks later, I picked up the board. It was amazing! Boris chose the most beautiful piece of walnut, with graining and flow that highlights the curve of the board. The lettering and gold highlights were perfect. The horse silhouettes were perfect. Boris ensured so many thoughtful touches. The steps and pedestals below the silhouettes, the balance of the sizes of the letters, the small notches to highlight the end of the boards... it's a fantastic creation. Boris is truly, truly a master craftsman and master woodcarver. I will definitely go to him again if I ever need something, or perhaps if I want to simply treat myself with something beautiful.

Mauna Loa is the heritage macadamia brand from Hawai'i, and it was an honor for us to work with Aaron to give back to the community that we are both a part of. Aaron is from Hilo, and worked with the local schools that he went to- Kamehameha Schools in creating the mural. We threw a Mauna Loa x Aaron Kai community event that was extremely well received, and our staff have commented on how the mural has lifted morale at the plant, as it is such a beautiful piece that everyone sees on their way to work. With a very…read morespecial but also specific theme in mind, we were unable to find any traditional wall decor in stores that really matched our vision. That's when we decided to commission a mural through a professional and quickly connected with Jeannine at Hattas Public Murals on Thumbtack. We received a lightning fast response, and were immediately impressed with her level of professionalism and accomplished portfolio. After a short on-site consult to take measurements and notes, Jeannine and her team got to work, sending mock-ups (and a few revisions) that brought our idea to life, but also within our budget. The mural features a scene inspired from the book series ("The Prydain Chronicles"), a monogram, our son's name, and a quote from the author. Our son, like the hero from the books is also adopted, so the concept behind the design was especially emotional. Jeannine listened to our story with so much compassion and understanding, we were absolutely confident the execution of the mural would be flawless. Our instincts were spot-on. Once the final mock-up was approved, Hattas Public Murals delivered and installed a spectacular work of art that still brings tears to my eyes. In fact, calling it art is quite the understatement; it is an awe-inspiring and  immersive experience. Everyone who has stepped into our baby boy's nursery has been absolutely blown away, and are amazed by the love and care that can be found in every brush stroke. We could not be more in love with this mural, and the pictures attached simply cannot do it justice. Best of all, it was painted on canvas and applied like wallpaper, so it can be moved, preserved, and treasured for many years to come. We cannot begin to thank Jeannine and her team enough for making our nursery the most special room in our home; with a one of a kind mural that is just as unique and beautiful as our son, Taran. Not only will we recommend Hattas Public Murals to anyone and everyone for their creative decor needs, but we intend to commission Jeannine and her team for several future projects.

This was important to me. Jeanine took the time to listen to what I was looking for and suggested a few things to help grow my idea. I loved that. She came over and was so kind and really took time to understand this was more than just a job; this was something my kid is going to grow up with. She took measurements, and even took color swatches of the carpet and furniture to make sure we matched the color palette! She quickly mocked something up and a few days later I had a photoshopped mockup for approval. Once we approved it we setup a date and I paid the deposit. Marcus was the artist that was assigned to this project. He was so kind and wonderful in my home. He let my wife and I peek and see progress, and would check in with me if he had any questions. He's a really talented artist and executed my vision faithfully. At the end of the day my wife cried (with joy), we have our incredible mural and I couldn't recommend this company enough. Really pleased with how it turned out and I will be calling them again for my next mural or art project.

Actually I really wanted a live painter after watching Bridgerton and seeing Daphne and Simon's painted portrait LOL. Anyway!! Laura was suuperrr sweet and friendly from the initial phone call! I still remember having a nice chat with her and her expressing sentiments about COVID rescheduling. She was super helpful with explaining the packages and sent me photos during our call while we were talking about paintings she had done! I knew I wanted to book her right away! She even mailed us a lovely welcome package which included a small painting of hers. On the day of our wedding, we didn't get to interact much but I loved being able to see the process of her painting for a short time during our reception!! For the painting itself: Laura was super clear about her questions such as art style for faces, detail level of the background and scenery, etc.. She sent us a rough draft immediately after the wedding and checked if I was ok with how my face looked in the painting haha! (I didn't change a thing! ) She even added our parents (who were sitting in the front row) to the back row of seats. I thought that was such a nice touch!! Laura stopped by our place and hand delivered the painting to us which was super kind of her!! It's now hanging above my desk. Thank you Laura for our wedding painting which we will cherish forever!
