Mixed experience. I had my reusable shopping bag literally ripped off my shoulder by a man I didn't understand, who was shouting at me, not in English. When I just looked at him, he came up to me and grabbed the bag from me and dumped it beside the cash. I guess he was security but it was very aggressive, to the point where it qualified as assault. It was the last time I shopped there. I used to like their Russian and Polish products, especially the preserved fruits, and interesting breads. read more

I enjoyed my shopping experience to this Russian market. I came here with my cousin we were bother happy campers. The prices were great and the food selection was amazing. You can get coffees, teas, produce, meats, fish etc etc etc. We purchased incidentals to add to our dinner and family gathering . I found some fruits to indulge and bring back to the family. This consisted of cantaloup, peaches, peppers, apples all delish. I also purchased salmon caviar which perfect and priced well yesss. This is a great place to become infected with COVID because the face mask mandate and social distancing is completely ignored by customers and employees! They have a great selection of eastern European products but as another reviewer pointed out, check all expiration dates. The deli counter has many options but is understaffed so the wait can to be served tends to be quite long. read more

I'm very disappointed with the management. I don't blame staff working there. I was waiting in line for the cashier and at random I was told to place my large empty shopping bag at the entrance. In very expensive locations I never had this experience. Did they really think that I was shoplifting their cheap food... Also I'm very aware of the law that the plastic shopping bags should not be provided by the supermarkets. I had my own. They should have a security man at the entrance all the time to provide info how to shop at the store but not while you are shopping... It's a shame, I was very excited to purchase my favorite European items. Clearly they didn't make me feel that way at the end, I can live without it! Frozen potato pierogies (vareniki) purchased in March 2021 had expiration date of January 2019. We didn't notice at first and cooked them. They tasted horrible and there's no guarantee they haven't been thawed and refrozen in the years(!) since they were made. The other package of the same Almi vareniki had no date. Avoid this store! or check all dates and avoid buying anything without dates stamped. read more

I love this market for the variety and price of produce. Lots of eastern European and near Middle East (Turkey Syria, etc.) food products. Fresh baked breads, lots of pickled vegetables, deli food specializing in the foods of this region. Huge yogurt and cheese selection. Since they are in multi-cultural NYC, they provide other cultural foods also like sofrito tortillas and egg roll skins (I no longer have to trek to Chinatown for these). read more

I was walking by on a Friday night and Gala Apple was open, most shops in the area are closed for the sabbath. I figured why not stop in and I was delighted with the inexpensive produce and sacks of jasmine and basmati rice lined up in the first few aisles. At the end of one aisle, are several types of tortillas including blue corn, and corn husks for tamales. Brightly lit and tidy, it was fun to wander around and discover that they carry an item I have not seen at the shops in Brighton Beach in over a year. The smoked fish selection was clearly marked and had the names of the fish in English, have not seen that elsewhere. I will definitely patronize this store. read more

This store is called "Fortuna" with big Cyrillic lettering outside. It's only a block away from the 18th street F train stop. If you are interested in making Central Asian food, this is THE place for you. This is one of the few stores in NYC where you can buy a kazan for making Central Asian food like plov. They sell aluminum and even cast iron kazans in a number of different sizes. This is also one of the only groceries in NYC where you can buy kurdyuchniy zhir, basically lamb tail fat from a special type of lamb. It's used in making Central Asian dishes. Ask for it at the butcher counter; he may not have it on some days. In addition to the tail fat, I've bought regular lamb meat here and it's fresh and of good quality. They sell fresh Uzbek lepyoshki for only 99c each, and "fatyr" cheese bread. You can also find special Uzbek cumin here; it's near the front of the store in some random place, maybe near the candy. You can even buy Uzbek teapots and plates here; they sell the blue and white teapot that you see in every Uzbek restaurant. They keep them behind the cashiers. read more

Tons of EXPIRED food. You have to check pretty much every single item for expiration date. I showed the manager a few expired products and he took them off without saying anything, just like its not a big deal and it happens all the time. Super dirty floors. Would not recommend going there under any circumstances. Use Met Food or any other grocery store, but not this one. BEWARE! read more

Came here since I was told it a good place for European products, and since I had gusts for the weekend, I decided to shop here. The prices are lower than I expected from a market that offer products from over sea. But they are not friendly enough to people who doesn't speak English, and many signs are not written in English. Supermarket with Russian and Uzbek food with wide selection of vegetables, fruits, dairy products, etc. and a deli counter with prepared foods so I can fulfill all my nostalgic cravings. Also amazing prices! I use a lot of citrus for cocktails, and here you can buy 6 juicy limes for under $2! The quality and freshness of produce and deli food isn't superb though, so you have to be vigilant and selective, or just suck it up. read more

This is a great place for eastern european food. The prices for most of the products are very decent compared to other places. Also, drinks here are a lot cheaper than in regular grocery stores. the supermarket has some good prices and a lot of exotic stuff. however, all the meats are writen in russian i think! no english on any meats that are freshly cooked! i tried asking a few of the workers what is what and what kind of meat is this and knowbody knew a thing. so i got scared and didnt order it! especially since they had a big cow tounge next to it ,so it could be anything! im not just going by looks at this place!!!! read more

This place is now called Fortuna, it is uzbek place. It has decent prices on fruits and vegetables. It doesn't have a parking lot, and parking here is hard to find. It has a small mobile store inside. And its own halal butcher place inside. read more
