Hot food selection was great and yummy. The rice, manti, $2 loaf of sweet bread, napoleon cake, and meat in cabbage were so good. The syrniki were okay--I feel like they would've been better warm? It's right by the Q stop, so super fun to get off, grab some food, and take it to the beach a couple blocks away. The bag cost $1 but felt well made and sturdy. read more

The selection at Tashkent Supermarket is literally mind boggling. The hot and cold food bars, the produce, the bakery, etc. I was here on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed with people. My friends and I started filling our cart and ended up with dinner for 4 people. I can't even remember everything we tried but there were 2 standouts for me. The Korean carrots on the cold bar were fantastic. Also the Dubai Cheesecake was amazing. I don't know if they make the cheesecake but all of the bakery items were beautiful! I'm still processing everything I saw here. I highly recommend a visit! read more

Absolutely love this grocery store. I don't really shop for produce and meat but it's really the prepared foods that's amazing. Since they've opened up the second section, it's a more manageable crowd. read more

This supermarket is so clean and well-kept and we were astounded by the huge hot and cold bar. Everything was delicious. Specifically the rice, beet salad, manti, and the meat pies with the flaky encasings. It's such a good idea to pick out a variety and bring it to Brighton Beach! read more

The store had lots of items for self-serve ranging from pastries, side dishes, salads, and meats. There is even a wide variety of desserts available at the counter. The plov is a must try since it was pretty good, but the items were pretty good too especially the napoleon cake and the achma mix. I also had the pelmeni, lamb kabob, beef pastry, and Spring salad. I would go back again to try the rest of the food offered the next time I visit NYC. read more

This is my favorite supermarket in the whole NYS. I said it and I mean it. I grew up in Ukraine in post-Soviet times and now live upstate 2 hours north. I come to Tashkent/Brighton beach once a year just to eat the delicious food I grew up with. This weekend was our wedding anniversary and my American husband offered to take us there on a day trip. Tashkent is amazing. The selection of prepared dishes ranges from Soviet cold salads, , and other familiar Russian dishes to Uzbek favorites like manty. There are plenty of different sized containers above the food trays. Each item is priced differently, so do not mix different foods in one container. If you do, they will charge the whole container by the price of the most expensive item in it. The food is freshly prepared, and the choices are endless. I feel like my biggest problem there is choosing what to pick that day because I want to try it all. This past Saturday was a hot August day and the supermarket was very busy. The staff was plentiful though, and they constantly walked around, cleaning up the food, trays and directing groups of people. There were many registers open and the service was courteous and quick. We picked a lot of our favorites to try and headed to the beach, which is one block down. Everything we tried was delicious. We had , , seafood salad, lots of salmon dishes, , , shrimp dishes, cakes and pastries - so much food. At the end of our beach day, we came back to Tashkent to buy some more food for home. I can't wait to be back in the future. read more

Are you kidding me? This must be one of the nicest supermarkets I've ever been too. Their hot food selection along is worth the trip - samsas, kashapuri, you name it, they have it. Their food is delicious. Their hot and cold bar, it should be noted, are spotless and so clean. We love going there. Make a destination out of getting food there and then eat it on the Brighton Beach boardwalk while you people watch. read more

The food got worse. I used love chicken " kotlety", but now they are so over salted , all I have is a taste of salt instead of chicken in my mouth. read more

So in all transparency, I'm rating this as a supermarket with food options, rather than just for the hot bar itself (even though that's all I sampled), which would be a 4.5. As other reviews can attest, this supermarket has all of your favorite Soviet-style products. As I was about to travel home, I did not have, for instance, any of the many variety of herrings. Instead, I went to the famous hot bar to get some snacks for my flight--kebabs or plov wouldn't travel well, so I basically used it as a bakery. The pumpkin samsa was excellent. It was a bit worse for wear as the outside was no longer crispy, but the flakiness shows how good it must have been. The pumpkin filling was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The next day, I had a spinach qutab, which I reheated on a cast-iron. It wasn't quite as good as made-fresh, but you could tell how good the crust would have been, and how fresh the spinach still was. Given that trays of food kept coming out as I was browsing, I think this is as good as a buffet gets--it's limited only by the fact that it's a grocery store buffet/hot bar. read more

The Brighton Beach branch of Tashkent is definitely the most chaotic, but it's also the closest to the subway and so ends up being my most frequented. While Brighton Beach has become more Central Asian and less Russian-Jewish over the years, Tashkent offers a wide array of pan-Soviet delicacies in their hot bar that should satisfy any craving in the general vicinity. I love their pumpkin and spinach samsas and mantı (the plump Uzbek variety, not the Turkish kind), and their khachapuri is not the best in the neighborhood, but is a good as a quick to-go option for a picnic. read more

Tashkent Supermarket - Bakeries Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I'd never been to a Halal Uzbek supermarket before this, and my inaugural visit was eye-opening. So many new and foreign foods, sights, and smells. There's a bakery in the front left and right selling Russian pastries and breads, while the produce/fruit is at the right (and outside of the market). Fresh flowers are sold outside, along the shopping carts. There's even a small area to squeeze your own orange juice. The fresh food section (salads, soups, fish and desserts) is at the center of the market and in my opinion is the most intriguing part; I'd most likely get something here, since I'd never seen any of the foods in this section in my life. Meats are in the back, as well as a selection of nuts and packaged goods. Personally, I think most of the common goods (basic everyday fruits, drinks, and snacks) is way overpriced (Hass avos are $4 each!), but it's definitely worth checking out this place for the experience, or to buy something unique you likely haven't seen before, especially since there's not a Uzbek market on every corner. It's fairly easy to get to as well, with a bus and train stop right next to the market. We ordered the plov (rice with seasoned meat, garlic, and carrots), beef noodle soup, and packaged baklava. While it's not exactly cheap, I think my favorite was the plov, which is apparently a traditional Uzbek dish. read more

So I will preface by saying that I've not had anything else from them aside from their lamb and chicken gyros but their gyros are delicious and definitely one of the places I will get food from when I'm in the area. But I would definitely recommend the gyro from here and their rival across the street. Can't go wrong with either spot. I would definitely go with the home bread for it. Other than that they seem to have a variety of ethnic cuisine for the neighborhood that are worth a try. read more

If I could live inside the store I would. Very wide variety of foods for sale, with a dedicated deli buffet and even a plov station for you to enjoy. I could hardly decide what to try, but the standouts for me were the Napoleon cake, Lamb plov, and lamb/beef manti. Checkout line is long but there are like 20 cashiers so it moves quickly and you're directed by staff as to where to go. read more

I travel from Australia to NY every second year and, as weird as it might be to say, one of the things I look forward to most is coming back to this market. I've brought many Aussie friends here too over the years. The range of freshly prepared food is insane, the quality is great. It's clean by NYC standards. It's vibrant, always super busy and I just love it! Between visits, when NYC friends have birthdays, I shout them lunch or dinner by ordering food and cake from here having it delivered to their homes. I'm coming back in April and I cannot wait! I'll especially be looking for the shrimp & avo salad and the mushroom salad. This place really is a gem! read more

I thought I already wrote a review for this place, but it appears I haven't. No worries-- here's what you need to know: this place is AWESOME. They have the most incredible hot bar, filled with lots of Russian and Central Asian dishes like lagman (hand pulled noodles stir-fried with vegetables and seasoned with paprika) and norin (traditionally a noodle salad made with horse meat but I think Tashkent Market's version uses shredded beef). There's also a fresh plov counter (highly recommend the Tashkent plov with the juiciest lamb around), a shawarma corner, a soup kiosk (love their rassolnik and lagman), and a bakery. On my most recent visit, I noticed they invested in a pineapple corer/slicer machine like the ones you see in Germany and an orange juicer machine as well. The market is open 24/7 and I have never seen it quiet during all the times I have dropped by. The hot bar is kept really clean and fresh dishes are always rotated in. The lines get long but move quickly since there is someone to direct you to which register is open, just like at Trader Joe's. Overall, an absolute gem and I'm excited to see them open their new outposts in Brooklyn and Manhattan! read more

Journeyed through traffic from queens on a rainy day for Tashkent market and was not disappointed. I've been to the one in queens to get my fix of their freshly made buffet goodies but had to try the heaven that was assortment in the Brooklyn location. So after months of eagerly waiting for my time to come, I finally made the trip with a friend. They are super busy and you're always squeezing through people and in someone's space or their in yours but lines move really fast at checkout so you can definitely make the trip a quick one. I, on the other hand, took my time wandering and deciding what to get because the selection is so vast it's overwhelming. Everything I tried was fire. My favorites were the cheese sigara, the egg stuffed bread/pastry, and potato stuffed bread/pastry, and the mushroom varenyky. I totally forgot the names of things because I ended up with so much stuff, but one thing to note about almost all the food is that there's not too much seasoning so nothing is really all that flavorful but it worked because the breads were just soooo good. Tried a couple of the desserts and honestly such good prices for what you get and for the size. It's by pound and I requested half a pound of two different slices of cake and it turned out to 3-4 dollars each. Knowing how cake slices are double if not triple those prices elsewhere I felt like I'd won the lottery. I hear there's a spot opening in Manhattan and if it's nearly as good as this one you bet I'll be there as often as I can. Until then I will eagerly await my return to this location o.o read more

Cheaper than Cherry Hill, the food here was a nice mix of Russian food and food from the various areas; primarily Central Asian countries as expected from the name. The buffet is not the best but it's certainly a lot better than a lot of other places. Very pro tip: Don't get your plov/palov from the hot food section. That stuff is just alright. Instead follow the massive lines which also happens to contain their dessert section and the cashier and get it from the people making it fresh in a massive pot/kazan. It might cost a few bucks more but for restaurant quality plov at a bargain, it's hard to argue. Their Samarkand plov as expected was excellent with tender beef mixed well with the rice. Sure it's a bit greasy but it's really tasty also. In terms of the desserts, the kyiv cake/kievsky was alright though lighter than the others I have had. The sour cherry smetannik was also good. The rest of the food was also fine from the pretty good fish khe to the various salads, noodles, and other dishes. The plov (specifically the Samarkand plov) probably gives this place a 4 but the unsanitary conditions from the 30,000 people not wearing a mask inside (and most of them being on one massive line) and the rest of the food being just alright drops it down a peg. read more

Good halal food I recommend this place I visit one time, but I don't forget food it's tasty

I bought groceries at the "Tashkent" store on Brighton. They often cheat with prices. You buy 4 items, but they charge you for 5 -- one extra. Or, for example, if something is priced at $6.99 per pound, they ring it up as $8.99 per pound. When you show them they're wrong, they don't even apologize -- they just say, "Pay." I do not recommend this store. read more

It was great when it first opened but has significantly gone down hill in the past year at least. Half the meat is raw (I don't understand how lyula kebab could be raw based on how it should be cooked but it was entirely raw inside, not once but NUMEROUS times), the salads are made with ingredients from their produce section that are expired or expiring which ruins the food. Fruit parfait was bitter and the fruits were rotting. Babaganoush was missing garlic altogether which is literally one of the main ingredients of the dish. Food is constantly unsalted and bland in flavor. Disappointed doesn't even begin to cover it. The only positive aspect of the entire store is that it is kept clean around the food because the workers are constantly walking around cleaning. The food itself has a ton of improvement to be made because their current cooks are obviously a bit confused on how to actually cook this food. The store is also ALWAYS crowded so unless you're mentally prepared for that, this isn't the place for you. read more

Second location for Tashkent located up the road from the first location. Still on a busy street on Coney Island Avenue. Probably a little more convenient for those coming by car or living near the Sheepshead Bay subway stop. Great hot and cold food bar. We had their lamb plov, olivie salad, beet salad, eggplant salads, greek salad, and a fancy shuba with shrimp, salmon, rice, and red caviar. Lots of prepared kebabs here too but we didn't try anything this time. We had steaks, veal chops, and kebabs from their butcher too. Quality meats. I'll give it a three there's so much food to choose from was overwhelming the cakes, the pastry, the fish from the chicken to the lamb. They had it all, but that buffet is the reason why I gave it 3 stars would not fuck with it too much, it was too many hands digging in there And nobody really saying anything . I can't take a chance like thatThey need do a little better , but too many hands in that I seen one older man was by the pickles and the tomato drop in the sour pickles. He put his hand into the sour pickles, get it out l if it was from the health department been shut down, I was done with that one that is a very unique spot. I will be coming back getting the lamb.from the meat department maybe come in real early when they put the food out. It'll be too many contacts with the buffet. The establishment is quite unique, it's a supermarket with international foods selection and buffet of hold/cold/sweets selection. Mostly the buffet selection is from Eastern Europe regions and the selection is vast. Regarding the size of the establishment and buffet size they clean! This is the Uzbek supermarket of my dreams, namely for their impressive and tasty assortment of ready-to-eat hot and cold food options like salads, savory pastries, fish, meats, carbs, and sides. Let's start with just the plov alone. They have at least four different types: Samarkand, lamb, chicken, and Afghan (with basmati rice). The Samarkand plov is a crowd favorite. Whenever an employee brings out a fresh tray, there's always a mad dash to get there and scoop first. The rice isn't as fluffy or moist as I'd like, but I've come to realize that that's just the standard for plov. The beef is so tender and tasty, and the juices and oils really seep into the fragrant rice and make every bite flavorful. The soft, shredded carrots are especially fantastic. I've also tried the following: dry Uyghur lagman, samsas, stuffed cabbage, salmon, baby chicken tabaka, duck leg, lamb with chickpeas, fried potatoes, chicken cutlets in sweet chili sauce, and basa filet stuffed with imitation crab meat. The dry lagman is one of my favorite things here. The noodles have a great chewy texture, and the seasoning clings onto them and the bits of meat for dear life, making them very flavorful. The duck leg is tender and delicious, especially with the sauce it's glazed in. It's all pretty good though. There's a soup station where you can get your fill of borscht, kharcho, lagman... whatever your soup-loving heart desires. There's a little kompot fountain station. There's also a pickle station (love those sour cherry tomatoes), and a massive dessert section filled with things like honey cake and 3,000 varieties of sour cream cake. It's always crowded whenever I visit, and for good reason. Try to find your place in this organized chaos, stay away from the especially gruff customers, and you'll be golden. read more

This store has delicious, gorgeous, and fresh hot and cold food. What a welcome addition to The Village!

This place is like a zoo! People run you over, kick you out of line, like in Russia. They are rude, inconsiderate and pushy! Love this supermarket, they have a huge selection of hot/cold prepared food at reasonable prices and a nice list of soups too as well as fruits, vegetables and other specialty items. The food quality is great and the flavors are on point. A nice selection of dried fruits, nuts and specialty candies available by the pound. Are you looking for Uzbeki or central Asian cuisine take-out? Check out this small grocery store in Kensington, Brooklyn, NY. They've got a good size self-serve buffet and lots of other prepared foods to go. We dropped by at 5 pm. on a Sunday. I got the lamb plov and chuchvara. Note that both dishes are heavy AKA oily as that's how they're prepared everywhere. So tasty. Reheated at home, and they tasted just like some of the best Uzbek restaurants. It was super easy in and out for takeout and priced very well. Plov is $8.99 a pound. Up take a photo of the buffet next time. My wife got a lamb gyro Uzbek style and loved it! They make sandwiches to order at a station. Produce looked phenomenal and was priced well. We also picked up some #4 Ukrainian water to drink. Love the sulfur spring water flavor. Note that they've got a 24x7 location in Brighton Beach that's far larger. This location is crazy close to the F train station. There is plenty of street and bike parking there. Staff is very helpful. It's such a cool grocery store. There are so many diverse foods to choose from. It's pretty large for the area. read more
