I was looking specifically for red leaf lettuce which sometimes can be difficult to find. I wanted a large bundle (best bang for my buck). A cold cuts department with a huge selection of European meats, a deli with prepped foods like Borscht soup, beef plov, stuffed crepes and pastries, even a bakery full of sour cream layered cakes. Markets like this serves the Brooklyn community well especially if other huge European markets are too far to walk. The items here can be extremely expensive compared to other markets but for convenience, it can be worth it. But if you need to look for franchise food items, it's best to go to a nearby brand supermarket for your usual cereal, orange juice and milk. Nonetheless a very organized market, helpful staff, and always a huge setup with no boring Euro-Centric foods. read more

I've been coming here for several years and never wrote a review previously for some reason. They now have 3 locations to choose from. This location is on the water in Sheepshead Bay with a parking lot so it's convenient. They are a gourmet style supermarket with great prices, fresh produce, salads, bakery products and more at a great price. They have a great selection and recently converted their second floor for flowers. Their client base is mainly Russian so many of the food items that are prepackaged or in the deli counter area cater to that customer. It's a nice change and everything I've had tastes great. I would highly recommend you try them and don't think they will disappoint on any level. read more

Tonight, I dropped by here to purchase some blinis. What is blini you might ask? It's crepe wrap around fruits or savory ingredients. I was introduced to this yummy concoction when I was in high school. This guy I used to know told me his mom made them for breakfast. Cherry Hill Market has the nicest employees. When I requested a pound of blinis, the woman smiled and asked me which one. I pointed the cheese and cherry ones. Then, the cashier teased me when I told him they were $7.99 a pound. He turned the container around and informed me "yes, they are." I didn't see the label with price imprinted on it. I'm glad I live close by. When I have craving for Russian sweets, I know where to go. read more

New York State law clearly states that "Price/s on every item in the store must be clearly posted"... NOT in "Cherry Hill" - this place is a step back in time and geography, which I never opted for. They have a deli department with various prepared food items on display - none have price tags - so, when salesclerk asked me what was my pick, I pointed to a few items and she quickly wrapped them up without informing me of the price. At the checkout I noticed that the bill is kind of high but didn't want to hold up the line, paid and quickly left. Only when I came home, I realized that I was charged $15.67 for two pieces of lulya kebab - that's almost $8 per piece $12.87 for 0.75 pound of "vareniki" (wontons with potatoes) and $10.39 for 0.5 pound of calf liver How did she came up with these prices? And here's another kicker - I had a shopping bag in my hand clearly visible, but without even asking me, cashier threw everything in their plastic bag and charged me for it too! - the dime I was charged for it won't break my wallet, but the fact that the staff disrespects its customers in such manner, shows serious management's issues and THAT makes me avoid returning to this rip off place. Oh, and just to make matters worse - irrespective of the ridiculous prices I was charged - the food was absolutely inedible... Love this market! I stopped in to get a drink while I was waiting to pick up my takeout. I'm glad I did. They were fully stocked with fruits, vegetables, drinks, and snacks. I ended up buying a coconut water drink, organic blueberries and Milka Oreo chocolate bar. The blueberries were fresh, plump, and sweet; 18 oz for $4.99 is a good deal. The Milka was yummy as well. Cherry Hill is NO LONGER the quality go-to market my husband and I valued. The food is no longer the high quality or standard it used to be. We purchased numerous salads and some prepared foods: 1. Herring with vegetables (potatoes, beats, carrot and egg) - the first ingredient herring - nowhere to be found. What a joke! 2. Olivie salad - (cubed veggie salad with mayo) - tasted like uncooked, old potatoes. (INEDIBLE - we thew it out) 3. Olivie with chicken - tasted old and sour. (INEDIBLE - we thew it out) 4. Marinated fish with vegetables - tough, overcooked, and bland fish drowned in a gallon of oil. (INEDIBLE - we thew it out) 5. Holodets (jellied chicken with egg and veggies) - jelly was chewy and gummy tasted like vomit. (INEDIBLE - we thew it out) 6. Rolled cabbage with meat (golubcy) - we were actually nervous to try it - they were completely bland. (another disappointment.) 7. Recommended by my dear Russian physical therapist to try -Xolodec-Russisn Jellied chicken. Its a refrigerated ready to eat product. It's supposed to help heal for people with bone injuries. So I gave it a try. Walked into the place. Staffs and even customers are very nice. There was a long line in the counter but moved very quickly. I asked the guy next to me and he was so helpful showing me where it was and how to eat it and what it was good for. He confirmed. My therapist said it's good with mustard so I added. Really good. Tasted like as named. Jelly like with chicken. It's very lightly seasoned and adding the mustard works well. Recommend to try just to eat as well. read more

Brought pastries the other night and they were stale, my guests didn't enjoy it and it was very embarrassing giving them stale pastries. I got the strawberry cheesecake and the russian honey cake. Love this supermarket because of the variety its offer, in term of freshness, and premade food are the "go to place" to get your healthy ingredients. Prices range isn't bad compared to the quality of food you're getting. I love that they have a broad variety of salad options to choose from. They have organic, natural fruits and vegetables. I'm quite sorry to see some of you bitching about Russians interrupting your scheduled tantrums, when Americans themselves are the worst racists when it comes to (new) immigrants. The Russians here will treat you as you treat them, that is, if you conduct yourself as the typical spoiled entitled American, don't be delusional when that sort of thing isn't welcomed. Sycophancy isn't a part of Russia's educational system. :) The bakery is superior to any Chinese one in the area, and on par as far as my taste goes to the Italian ones. It's almost 2AM and I'm seriously considering walking over there for a bite lol. The prices really could be better, but not that bad compared to when normal chains like CVS stock maple syrup and other healthy alternative products. It's not Trader Joe's but come on. :) I wish the meat and fish selection was bigger. At least the salads and prepared goods by the counter make up for it. The produce is fresh, the bakery is full of gorgeous pastries and their selection of niche and luxury foods is impressive. However it is not a comfortable place to be and you will not only be ignored but people will go out of their way to be rude to you if they see that you are not Russian. So choose wisely. This place works very hard to maintain a certain physical appearance. But aside from that, it isn't very pleasant to enter if you aren't their target consumer. Hence, if you aren't Russian or white in general, they will give you stares. I walked in here one day because I read a review about their macarons and Lady M crepe cake. The moment I walked in, one of the women who works there just stared me down with a disapproving look. I decided to look around anyway. Well, they didn't have macarons or the Lady M crepe cake. The woman behind the dessert counter also gave me a look. It wasn't disapproving but rather confused. The produce here is priced at a premium compared to the other produce stores on 86st. You can tell that it affects their sales because this is the least crowded market on the street. I saw more people purchasing the prepared foods rather than the produce. Their Mexican workers are also the most perverted on the street. They don't even try to hide their perversions. They are downright disrespectful. They are not as hardworking at the other workers in other stores. Even as I was leaving, a man was walking in with a pile of binders. I let him pass first and he gave me the same disapproving look as the woman when I first entered the store. The prejudice in this store is disgusting. I found Kerrygold butter here for a $1 more expensive than an upscale Manhattan market. These reasons are why I don't shop here and I don't enter unless I'm looking for something in particular. Oh Cherry Hill, I remember when you were just a hole in the wall, so many years ago. You were open all night, which fit my own crazy schedule so well. Eugene manned the counter with his rubber hand and made polite conversation in the wee hours while I packed my produce into the canvas bag I had brought with me. And then, seemingly overnight, you grew into this large, beautifully appointed and well-stocked grocery store with a professional floral designer, a deli, a patisserie section, a cheese counter, and a really beautiful array of fruits and veggies stocked by stout Mexican men as far as the eye could see. You stood out particularly during the winter holidays when your ornately painted windows brought a festive splash of holiday color to the drabness of the season. It filled me with quiet pride to see you all grown up and enjoying the success you so richly deserved. Sure, the prices were a bit higher, but the quality of your produce is generally higher, too. And some of the homemade foods were to die for! The green borscht with sorrel. The Khachapuris. The herbed plov. Even simple baked potatoes had a salty garlicky goodness that I have not been able to reproduce quite as well. I was willing to spend the extra money because I actually believe in customer loyalty. But alas, for one reason and one reason only, that loyalty was worn away until I finally defected permanently and happily to your competitor across the street. The reason: your clientele. I've come to genuinely dislike shopping at predominately Russian venues. Believe me, I know that sounds terrible. Culturally, Russians are wonderful. I love their literary and culinary traditions. I love their infectious zest for life. But as consumers too many of them behave as if they're still bum rushing some bread line in Chelyabinsk hoping to get the last mealy potato or wilted parsnip. Not all, of course, but enough to leave a damning impression. Why do so many Cherry Hill shoppers seem oblivious to whether or not they are blocking a narrow path and think nothing of leaving a cart dead center in an aisle instead of courteously moving it over to the side so people can get by? Really. How does a person reach late adulthood and never make that observation? The mind fairly boggles. But the most egregious offense -- and I have witnessed this time and time again -- is the penchant for doing half of one's shopping, rolling up and claiming a place in line with their shopping cart, and then proceeding to run around doing the second half of their shopping. That is really fucking cheeky. Yet no one ever seems to notice or attempt to intervene. And there's always at least one old lady who pretends she didn't realize that a single line feeds into all the cash registers while she tries stealthily to skip ahead. If they have a question about a particular product, they think nothing of waiting until it is being processed by the cashier to ask her, and then hastily jogging back into the store to exchange it while everyone is left to wait. It's infuriating and no ethnic group I've come across in Brooklyn does it more consistently than people from the former Soviet republics. So yeah, I don't expect the clientele to change their ways any time soon -- especially if management always allows it to slide without comment -- which means they probably won't be getting much of my money in the future. Judging by the fact that they're no longer open 24 hours, I'm guessing I'm not the only customer who defected to Vucciria. read more

I go here all the time; they have the most fresh vegetables and mushroom salad and ethnic food as far as the eye can see. My only issue with this place is the people who work there. Every time I shop there, I get dirty looks from the women when they hear I speak English and not Russian. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying I wish they would speak English, because I know it's an ethnic market, but treat your customers with a little more respect. Whenever I go to the deli for my salads, I get eye rolls, but as soon as someone orders in Russian, that customer receives a smile and proper service. Even when I check out, the cashiers have the worst attitudes. First of all, this is Brooklyn, and second of all, even if you don't speak English well, at least greet me with a smile when I walk up to you and say 'hi, how are you?' Instead I get a cold stare. I didn't realize it until later, so when I tried to exchange it at the store 4 days later, they said the store policy only works to return the item within 24 hours, then they proceeded arguing with me that the item was ok and that it wasn't actually opened! read more

I can't speak for how this place is for people who aren't Russian. I'm sure if you're not, you'll run into some problems here such as talking to the workers or finding out what certain foods are since some don't have translations on them. I also can't speak for the bakery since I'm allergic to milk and therefore can't have anything from there. But the desserts certainly look good. The only thing I can say about the bakery is that when I ask them to weigh and price my candy selection, they do it quickly and efficiently. They have a nice candy selection but it's really small compared to other Russian groceries. Sometimes this place also doesn't have the bread I like. And one of the people behind the ready food counter refused to give my mom the choice of vegetables she wanted with her food since they "all come together, you can't choose what you want". This place is certainly overpriced but I come here all the time since it's nearby. My mom loves the place because of the meat selection and the ladies know what they're doing. And a plus side is that my friend's dad is a manager there. So for me, it's a nice atmosphere. Personally, the only people I don't like there are the people behind the registers. The prices here are slightly higher then if you walked all around 86th street to find things,but its convieniently all in one place and still good prices compared to other Brooklyn areas.The service is very quick too and friendly. read more
