Sahadi's at Industry City is such a fun place to walk into. I was there during a work retreat and people were constantly coming in and out, which gave the whole store this lively, welcoming vibe. I loved that they even have a bar inside. I couldn't drink since I was there for work, but it's such a cool touch and makes the space feel even more inviting. There are so many delicious things to look at. Spices, nuts, prepared foods, pastries, everything. The olives are honestly my favorite. They are so fresh and full of flavor that I had to stop myself from grabbing more. It's the kind of store where you want to explore every corner because something good is always waiting. The staff was friendly and patient even with the steady flow of people. It's just a warm, easy place to be in. If you're walking around Industry City, Sahadi's is definitely worth a stop. This place has been my favorite for over 20 years. They have everything and their Baba Ganoush and hummus is out of this world. They have so many dried and canned things from the Middle East. Definitely worth a stop. I go there at least once a month to stock up. Highly recommended. read more

I've been going to sahadi's for at least 25 years, and it was so outstanding in the early days. It was super-popular and even famous, with the aisles packed with customers all the time. they still have the best olives. however, the son who took over the business has obviously been to Business School. The atmosphere now is profit and upscale goods instead of service to the community. sad. now, the busy deli counter is empty---prices are way out of reach for the original clientelle. the new chocolate display has 2 workers, and no customers. the check out has one worker and a long line. read more

Great spot for Mediterranean groceries and speciality spices. They also have a section for prepared foods, breads, meat and cheese. This place is amazing. Not only the grocery, but the eatery as well. You can get traditional middle eastern food and goods. We come here about once a week. Their spice selection is amazing and so inexpensive. They also have nuts, nut butter that you can make yourself, coffee, cheese, small refrigerated section, oils and sauces, pasta, and much more. I recently popped into Sahadi's looking for ingredients to make homemade Kunafa. I figured I'd find what I needed here, and I wasn't wrong! For a small space, Sahadi's really packs in a lot of variety. I found feta by the pound (how we used to buy it growing up), kataifi to make kunafa, many many types of labneh (my favorite). If you're looking for middle Eastern goods, I'd definitely start here. Anything you're missing could likely be found at Damascus down the block! read more

I have been buying Sahadi's nuts for well over a decade. Until the past year or so, I was always able to count on these being absolutely fresh. I recently placed my second order for cashews via Mercato delivery in 3 months and, for the second time, the cashews were completely stale/inedible. (And needless to say, they aren't cheap.) Something is up at the store, or at least with the merchandise they deliver via Mercato. This is incredibly depressing to write, but I'm buying my nuts elsewhere from here on out. read more

I was excited to try their kofta kabob wrap. Unfortunately I was disappointed with what I got. Mainly salad with one small kofta kabob. It was very pricey for the wrap and didn't get much in it. The whole lunch cost me $17.00 with the drink and I was very disappointed. The meet was dry and no flavour. The cashier was not friendly and had an attitude. Sahadi's is a fabulous place with wonderful goods you can't get anywhere else. The staff is helpful and knowledgable. The cashier, though, who checked us out yesterday was intensely rude and unpleasant. They didn't speak at all and stood staring down like a hostile child while i packed up our purchases. They then noticed a small mess that had been on the paper bags where I packed our stuff (it was already there) and actively sneered and glared at us. This person should not have a job in customer service. I love Sahadi's but this person marred the experience, for no reason other than that they seem like an unhappy jerk. read more

They had a fair variety of boxed options; however, upon inspection of their dessert counter, I was able to find a house made option. It was outstanding! I had a piece of pistachio baklava too, but the delight was the clear winner. Weirdly enough, I discovered Sahadi's because they have what seems to be the biggest selection of Guittard baking chips in the city (that are normally priced, too). Obviously when I saw that they were known for their hummus I had to get in on the action. I tried the spicy hummus and baba ganoush. I wasn't particularly amazed by the spicy hummus but the baba ganoush was super good. They also have a big selection of house made food like spanakopita, chicken pies, and harissa salmon. I remember Sahadi's as a child. My father was Harry Abbot (Abdy) and my family lived at 170 Clinton Street. I am now 73 years old. Back then I was maybe 9 or 10 years old. I remember the olive barrels and the spices and the cheeses. I am sure your parents and grandparents will remember my father and mother from 170 Clinton Street I have never forgotten my time there with my dad and I am happy to say that Sahadi's is and always will be the best. How has it been twelve years since I first reviewed my favorite specialty market in all of NYC? Spoiler alert: it's just as amazing as it was when I first reviewed it. The hummus. Oh, the hummus. Best I've ever had, especially the spicy red pepper variety. Rich, creamy, full of tahini and just the right amount of garlic and lemon juice. The reasonable price is much appreciated, too. The kalamata olive bread. I grabbed the very last one made for the day, you betcha I did. Hummus and olive bread for dinner? Oh yes, I did. When you walk in, there's the area where you can buy nuts, seeds, sweets and other goodies. Take a number and hold your breath. The staff themselves are speedy and kind. It's the other customers that will try your patience (can I just get a little bit of these? Oh, can you just give me another half scoop more?) Don't worry, it'll be your turn soon and you can get the best tasting salted homestyle squash seeds here. I wrapped up my order with a large container of Lebanese Za'atar and made my way past the delicousness in the freezer aisle (they have vegan ice cream!) and the halvah (incredible as you'd imagine. Not sure which one these days is vegan, check for honey) to the nicest lady working one of the registers (I remember the days of yore when it was two people behind a counter! They've rearranged the inside a little. It works. There's the same general layout, with a sitting area for coffee. Many other items than just the ME foods. I found my Devonshire clotted cream here. If you've never had, try it on toast/scones/muffins with or without jam. They have jars and jars of nuts and sweets. If you're looking for barberry (very healthy) to put in plov or pilaf, it's cheaper and better here than Netcost. There is a wealth of spices, pastas/grains, cheeses, deli items, frozens, juices, a bit of fruit. The draw for me always is Joray fruit rolls. *** JBF America's Classic (2017) *** #22 *** Sahadi's was different than any of the other 21 James Beard America's Classics that I've dined at because there is nowhere to sit and eat, so be prepared for that. This is a Mediterranean grocery store in Brooklyn with a stellar pre-made foods bar where you can grab salads, meats, hummus (the star attraction), and flatbreads. Greek Salad - a bit too many olives (which were way too salty) and a bit too much dressing for my liking. Just a personal preference on this one - it was still good, just not how I would prepare it. Hummus - we tried too types, the spicy and regular - and my expectations were high given all the rave reviews - and I have to say that it lived up to the hype. I've had a LOT of hummus in my life, and yes, this is perhaps the best ever. I think it's because it's so smooth and creamy. I liked trying the plain so that I could properly compare it to other hummus' that I've had, but I preferred the spicy one since I like a little bit of spice. Salmon Skewer - a bit pricey, but comes with a decent amount of salmon. Very good. Flatbreads - These were okay.. they looked a lot better than they actually were, but maybe that's because we had to trek across town with them since there was nowhere to sit and they were cold by the time we ate them. I can't believe it took the pandemic for me to finally step foot inside Sahadi's but I am so glad I did. This place is a gem of a store in Brooklyn. The best thing is there are so many items that you would not typically find in most grocery store chains such as egg roll wrappers to a unique selection of olives, nuts, and more. I made a special trip to Brooklyn to visit Sahadi's after seeing it on a FT's list of "The 50 greatest food stores in the world." Even coming in with such high expectations, I was blown away by the authenticity of this place. It felt like such a gem in the area, carrying some of the highest quality cheeses, dried fruits, coffee beans amongst many other things. They have a fantastic spice collection, with spice blends freshly ground, at reasonable prices. In terms of fresh foods - I absolutely loved their pastries. They have an amazing collection of Syrian and Afghani breads and their spicy hummus is to die for. Their baklava is also delicious. I'm already so excited for my next trip. read more

Lebneh 6. Babaganoush 7. Halva 8. Banana Chips 9. Crackers You will find all of these in our household at all times and they will always be from Sahadis because no other store around can even compare to the quality of the ingredients above. I come here all the way from Bushwick just to buy labneh PLUS they carry Tim tams, which is just a special little bonus. Situated on a strip that once housed a lot more Middle Eastern markets--- take note--- Sahadi's is not just a Middle Eastern specialty store (although you'll most likely want to buy some authentic treats here). Upon one of the entrances, the beloved olive and more bar (please take a number!), welcomes you. All kinds of delicious olives and other oil cured items. An assortment of candy and nuts are also sold by the pound in this same section. Think: chocolate covered fill in the blank, pistachio nuts (salted/unsalted), almonds, dates, dried mangos and more. As one navigates around the store, the back section contains cheese and crackers from all over the world. There is a wide variety to choose from. Need olive oil---check---if you experience trouble making a selection, it only means you're indecisive. There's a huge array of different types of olive oils from all over the world. Pasta? Check. Coffee station? Absolutely. You may grind your selection on site and there is also a barista available to serve chai latte, coffee, cappuccino and tea. Yet at another section, there's the amazing hummus, eggplant dip, savory pies (such as spinach and baked kibbah), falafel, all kinds of desserts such as baklava and so much more.
