Gina and her team saved my hair! I am usually skeptical of salons in hotels, but this one is definitely an exception. Not a very big salon, nothing fancy, but Gina and her team are so nice, knowledgeable, and they actually care about you and your hair! Thankfully she had an opening, so I took it, and I wasn't disappointed! I just needed a quick trim and some help since my hair has been taking a beating with the wrong shampoo/conditioners, lots of travel, chlorine from pools and hard water at home. She knew exactly which products to recommend, how I needed to use them, and gave me a plan to move forward in bringing my hair back to health! First off, let me say I am extremely picky about who does my hair. I get a Brazilian Blowout every 4-6 months, which is well worth it to me. Without the treatment, it takes me about an hour to blow dry, and straighten my hair to my liking. With the treatment, it maybe takes me 15 minutes. well worth the price, if you ask me. Having just moved to Rhode Island from Florida, I was extremely nervous about finding someone amazing to trust with my hair. I went online and looked up the best rated salon, an establishment that had been in Providence for decades. I went and had an extremely disappointing experience. While everyone there was nice, it was clear that the stylist had not had an updated training in a while, and that caused the treatment to last only about a month. I was reluctant to try again and I really wondered if I should make a trip down to Florida to see my hairstylist. Then, I read online about the G Salon! I called, and Divya answered the phone. It was truly fate! She took my appointment down, and I went to see her a few weeks later. I explained all of my concerns and described the lackluster experience I had at the other salon. She was so knowledgeable and really took her time to make sure I had the perfect experience! I was so happy with how my hair turned out! One of the best blowouts I had ever had. I couldn't stop talking about how wonderful she was. Her precision to detail, ensure that the treatment lasted the full amount of time. Best day ever! I booked an updo and make-up for my 25th wedding anniversary. Cannot say enough great things about the team. They welcomed me, put me at ease and proceeded to give me a dream look with very little help from me. I literally put myself in their hands and am so glad I did. I spent most of a Saturday at the G Salon. It was my first visit and needed color correction, a cut and hair repair due to over processing. Gina was absolutely amazing. She is warm, personable and knows what she is doing. She also took the time to explain the process and how to take care of my hair after I left. I cannot thank her enough! My pedicure looks like a 5 year old did it. The polish was messy and everything about the experience was horrible. She didn't even trim my nails until I asked her to do so. The set up was extremely awkward. You sit in a square chair and rest your feet on a ottoman that the woman is also sitting on. I wanted to like G Spot Salon, but overall it was not an experience I would like to repeat. Here's why: 1) My haircut took FOREVER. Meaning, about three hours. Seriously. Now, at the time, I did have substantial hair to cut - it's very thick, very curly and was very long. However, three hours? That's a HUGE chunk of my day that should have been spent doing much more important things. Oh, and all I had done was a haircut - yup. No color, no highlights, not even a blow out (which I would have actually liked). I just went in for a trim. 2) No blow out. These came to be standard issue, as most stylists needed to "check the lines" of my cut and could only get a clear reading on the copious amounts of hair by doing said blowout. The stylist at G Spot didn't know how to do it properly, so instead she recklessly blew my massive head of curls dry hurly-burley (Yikes!) and proceeded to IRON my hair. Disaster? Yes. Time-consuming? Totally. After poofed-up my hair was flattened, she went over it again with the scissors. And again. And again. Painful. 3) The shop was actively being renovated while appointments were in the chairs. Now, I understand this was somewhat unavoidable, but when I go to a salon, I do appreciate a calm, peaceful and relaxing experience aided somewhat by the ambiance. I felt that no effort was made to calm the atmosphere amidst the chaos, especially since the stylists were shouting to each other from their stations. I was privy to a whole lot of personal information about the entire team. Not exactly professional. My stylist was nice enough, if inexperienced. I wanted to like it, as I said, but it just wasn't a polished, professional establishment. Perhaps I should have gathered as much from the name! read more

I'm not going to split any hairs (har har), I'm a bit cheap when it comes to my locks. I use box dye and probably get a haircut every 4-5 months. That being said, I am acutely aware that you get what you pay for. In the bright warm sunshine of one spring-like day last week, I was able to fully assess the damaged ends of my hair, the snapped-off flyaways lining my part and hairline, and the overall dullness that denotes poor maintenance. I knew I couldn't hold my hair hostage to my wallet for one more day. I decided to try The G Spot Salon, thinking they were still in Davol Square. I called and the woman on the other end was really nice but I was put on hold for 5 minutes and then hung up on. I called again and successfully made my appointment for ten minutes later. But when I plugged them into my GPS I came up with a different address than was listed in other places, and I had to call them again. I have to admit it was weird walking into a hotel to get my haircut. When I finally found them I had snaked my way past the pool and down a hallway, sure I was wandering into guest-only territory before reaching the small, brightly lit (and a bit chaotic) salon. I waited for about fifteen more minutes and then sat down in Gina's chair. She's very charismatic, down to earth, and professional. I immediately felt like I was in good hands. She heard me out and delivered on the cut. And I mean cut. Probably five or six inches off, and I absolutely love it. She also took the time to explain why she was blowdrying my hair the way she was and how I could do it myself. She's great. But the disorder of the salon was evident, as when Gina couldn't find one of her tools, and the disorder was compounded by the overall shabbiness -- worn chairs, small ratty hair towels, hair from past appointments still on the floor. I have to admit I was surprised when I found out I was paying $65 for my haircut, and I couldn't figure out why it bothered me so much until I started writing this review. So here it is: I may have gotten a $65 haircut, but I did not necessarily have a $65-dollar-a-haircut experience. read more

I always get my threading done at the Marriott location because Divya is amazing and the $10 unlimited threading deal is worth it. There is a new girl threading and he did a beautiful job but she was VERY slow and the slower they are the more painful it is. It took a full 30 minutes for what usually takes 5-10. I think since Divya is gone I'll try the other location on Angell. read more

I visited about a month ago....so my review is slightly delayed. I went for a bikini wax on the recommendation of a friend, as the woman that I usually see was on maternity leave. (She is at a different salon.) First, the key to the treatment rooms where massage, facials, and waxing is done was no where to be found when I arrived and we were locked out of the space. The staff worked with the hotel to try and get the space open quickly. It did take about 20/25 minutes for the hotel and salon staff to get the space open for us. WIth that being said, everyone handled the situation really well. I was offered beverages and Gina, the owner, came out herself to apologize. I was also offered a significant discount on the service. I happened to not be in a rush, and was able to take some work calls, so it worked out just fine. The service was decent. (I apologize for not remembering the technician's name that worked with me.) The wax of choice is hot wax, where I am used to cold wax. I have discovered I prefer the cold wax. The technician that I usually see spoils me as she is so good and thorough. The treatment room was neat, clean, and tidy. I felt comfortable there. The price was a bit expensive -- a simple bikini wax was $40 before the discount. I typically pay $30. If I did not have my usual spot (and technician who was on leave has now returned), I would go back to GSpot. But as long as Nicole is working, she is who I will see. read more

Anyways, through the grape vine I found out about The G Spot salons new customer special-free shampoo, cut and style for new customers. Count me in! Tiffany was my stylist along with some input from Kerry, the salon manager. It took two Brian's to fix my botched hair cut. It took about 2 hours to get it all fixed, which is a small price to pay. I came in for a facial and pedicure and it was great! My esthetician was Jocelyn and she performed both services. She was friendly, efficient and talented. I left the salon feeling refreshed, relax and happy, having had a great conversation. On the business side of things, I thought the price point was a little high. Polish selection was limited, the bottles looked old, some half empty and the area to do the pedicure was pretty shabby. Decor was shabby and dated. For the price point, you expect to be in an updated, pristine facility. It was my esthetician's skill, professionalism and personality that made me feel like I got my monies worth. I spent 4 hours here. The first stylist who cut my hair messed it up so badly that the best stylist had to come and fix her mess. I liked the end look, but it took a whole 4 hours in rock hard chairs which actually really bothered my back for the next two weeks, and it took two stylists. My bachelorette party was at this Spa this past March, my maid of Honor and bridal party set it up for me! They gave us a room to put out things and some snacks! Everyone was so kind!!! We were able to come and go to the services that we chose and were encouraged to come back in the future because we were local. I loved my haircut experience at G-Spot. I was referred by a girl I met with great hair and my experience certainly lived up to the expectation she set, as did my great-looking hair. Except for one thing. The haircut was $15 more than my usual place - so a splurge...worth it at first. Then I stopped back in for my promised "free bang-trim" between haircuts. Well, my "free bang trim" cost $10! It seems my stylist was dishonest about pricing and I probably won't go back because of it. The stylist also took photos of me under the agreement that she'd email them to me. She never did. My technician was very nice, but I get a better mani, pedi at Miniluxe for half the price. My mani, pedi took place in a "temporary" hotel room, apparently, there was a leak in the salon. This did not make the experience nice at all. I still cannot get over the price. The products were nothing special, no aroma therapy, no paraffin treatment. I don't live in Providence but am visiting for a few weeks and needed a haircut. I decided on G spot from the Yelp reviews. Firstly, you should know that G Spot has moved and is now in the Marriott on Orms St (note, this is not the Courtyard downtown). I had to navigate maze of hotel rooms to finally find their temporary location in a hotel room (literally) while the new salon is being built. The receptionist was super friendly and apologized for the temporary situation, which made up for the very strange surroundings. She also introduced me to Gina (the head stylist? Owner?) who was very friendly. However, I arrived a few minutes late (5 max) and was informed that my stylist had just taken an "unexpected walk-in". I ended up waiting somewhere between an hour and an hour and a half! So while the people are friendly and the haircut was decent (nothing stellar), the wait was completely unacceptable, hence the 2 stars. read more

The brazillian wax I received at this salon was so astoundingly terrible that it was a funny story as soon as I left, limping. I almost couldn't be mad it was so ludicrously terrible. I was new to Providence and was having a hard time finding a place (and PS but the second place I tried was Facing Thayer, which is FANTASTIC - better than any wax I ever got in NYC - ask for Jessica, no, she's not me, I know, it's weird). The G Spot (HORRIBLE name) was the first place I tried. I don't remember the woman's name, but I believe she's the only one who offers the service there. She had a bunch of diplomas on the salon walls written in French, which claimed to be from a beauty school in Paris. "Oh," I said, "you studied in Paris?" "No," she answered, "New Jersey." I would be SHOCKED to learn that I wasn't the very first person she'd ever tried to give a brazillian wax to. She simply had no idea of how to do it. I felt like I should have been showing her how myself. It was the most painful thing my poor area's ever been through - she went over the same spots over and over and over and over and over - and STILL I walked out of there with wax all OVER me. It took, and I am NOT exaggerating here by one single minute, an hour and a half. Of PAIN. (Jessica at Facing Thayer takes 15-20 minutes every single time, and we spend the whole time chatting pleasantly.) Not only was it agonizingly painful (I've had them done lots before - they can hurt, but NOT like this), but she couldn't even finish the job. She had to keep doing the same spots over and over because she couldn't do it, and I ended up with lots of spots and patches and...things you don't want to hear about, but trust me. It was not done properly. Throughout the entire process, the woman was apologizing profusely to me. She knew exactly how badly she was doing. I had to keep telling her it was okay and reassuring her! I'm not sure whether I was giggling at the absurdity or because the adrenaline from the pain was making me giddy. To add insult to (literal) injury, she felt so bad at the end of it that she gave me a 10% off coupon - for my NEXT visit! Please believe me when I say I will never, ever, ever use it. Plus Davol Square is in a weird industrial hidden-under-the-highway area that creeps me out, frankly. I'm sure they're very good at eyebrows or haircuts or whatever (in fact I DO get my eyebrows done regularly at the G Spot on Angell), but - and I say this as a good-humored person who has no personal grudge against this business or the woman who gave me this wax - DO NOT go to this salon for a bikini or brazillian wax! This waxer was inexperienced and untalented and put me through 90 minutes of very intense pain (plus a very very painful shower afterward trying to get the rest of the wax off!) only to end up with a spotty half-done job.
