    Sashimi Chirashi

Gotta love a neighbourhood Japanese Sushi restaurant. Situated on Front Street, it is near all the tourist attractions. When life was normal, you could zip into this place for a quick bite before heading to your next destination. I just so happen to walk past this joint on my home from work everyday, and also am very thankful they are still open during the pandemic. I will not lie. I am a creature of habit and I always order the Chirashi dinner. I love how there's a generous amount of slices of fresh fish variety on the sushi rice. It comes with a salad and soup. And also they will give an appertizer on the house as well out of the kindness of their heart. They have always been very polite and efficient with their service. I give them many thumbs up lol.

We were excited to try this place for a la carte sushi because of the yelp reviews but it's nothing out of the ordinary for me and here's why: 1) sushi in itself was OK, all the rolls specials had one California roll and another roll of your choice. So nothing super fancy. 2) the bill for a sushi combo and chirashi bowl came down to $50 which is definitely a lot more than expected considering the food was mediocre and options were rather limited. So overall, for the price I would say this place is not worth the buzz.

High quality, fresh, delicious tasting salmon sashimi.

Excellent quality of sushi - it is quite obvious by the salmon sashimi. I also got to sample the crunchy noodle soup, which in itself is phenomenal. I am definitely returning with more people! When I do I shall update this review.

Sloppy looking mushy tasting eel & avocado roll. I didn't touch these remaining pieces.

First time trying this place tonight because of the good reviews on Yelp. I ordered a salmon teriyaki dinner and eel & avocado roll for take out. Upon opening the clam-shell box of sushi roll I was disappointed. It was tiny and sloppy looking. I thought maybe it tastes good without the look. The eels were mushy like a paste. I couldn't tell that was eel if it wasn't the unagi sauce. Move on to the main, the salmon was way overlooked and I chewed it like I was eating meat (if I wanted meat I'd order chicken teriyaki!). The salmon was tasteless itself beside drenched with teriyaki sauce on a bed of raw cabbage. The edamame is the same, tasteless. Not even a single grain of salt. They are completely skipping out seasoning the food by soaking them with store bought sauces and totally cheap out on the quantity and quality of food. I wasn't expecting authentic Japanese food and know well most sushi places are run by not Japanese Asians. But even with this knowledge it's just terrible tasting and small portion food to serve in downtown Toronto for the price they charged. The worst $24 spent for a one person meal ever!

    Looks fairly clean and neat.

Very friendly service from everyone. Cozy and clean with good quality sushi. Price is in line with the area, i.e. is not very cheap. That said, I'd still go back when in area cause of the friendly service!

My go to sushi place downtown. Good food and reasonable prices. Also good if you like the smell of sushi in your clothes.

You can really tell there's a lot of care behind every course. What stood out to me most was how calm and focused the whole experience felt--it made it easy to slow down and actually enjoy each bite. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I want something a little more special.

There were three add-ons (toro with caviar $25, uni with caviar $35, and caviar sushi). I opted in for the toro and uni add-ons. It was strange they give you the add-ons before any other nigiri. Everything was very good and fresh. Standouts for me was the appetizer, all three cuts of bluefin tuna, the lobster (by far my favorite), and the hotaru ika. I would've appreciated knowing that the omakase included or not included toro and uni before I decided on the add-ons but I don't regret it. It was a splurge night after all. Service was very attentive. Note that the dining space is very small. 12 seats around the counter and two tables. There was a very loud gentleman two seats from me who never learned to use his inside voice and totally ruined vibe. But that's not on the staff. Another note is that gratuity is automatic on the bill.

We were seated in a separate room from the regular sushi counter. The chef carefully prepared each course in front of us. The Kaiseki portion was served first, and after each course was given to us one of the servers described each dish and its elements. The sushi courses were served afterwards followed by some desserts. They also gave us an extra dessert for the birthday celebrant. Each dish was really thoughtful and tasty, and the fish was really fresh. The highlight was definitely the A5 Wagyu beef course. The beef was so buttery and melted in my mouth. They even explained the quality of the beef and showed us a certificate of the beef's grading. It was worth the splurge for a special occasion! The meal was amazing and the restaurant itself was welcoming and not pretentious at all.
