Chicken katsu
Joeann S.

This sushi place is owned and run by a sweet husband and wife duo who were very warm and welcoming. We ordered the chicken Katsu dinner, Orangeville roll (spicy scallop roll with salmon on top) and dragon roll (California roll with eel and avocado on top) with miso soup included. The rolls were huge and the katsu dinner came with two large pieces of chicken that we ended up taking to go. The fish was fresh and everything was very affordable. They also have alunch specials and an all you can eat option available as well. This is definitely more of a cozy no frills sushi place but definitely satisfied my sushi craving!

Gallery Sushi - Combination Bento Box w/ Sashimi (10pc), Tempura & Teriyaki Meat
Mike H.

Gallery Sushi, I wish you were a perfect work of art. Too bad there's some room for improvement. Located beside AGO, I called ahead at lunch to order the Combination Bento Box. It comes with an assortment of teriyaki, tempura, sushi/sashimi/maki. Good way to pig out for lunch, as I was headed to a venue that was inconvenient for dinner. Despite the not-so-cleansed appearance of empty beer cans at the counter front, the two-person kitchen team seemed to be productive. I received my takeout order before many tables there for AYCE. Salmon, tuna, butterfish and tilapia sashimi (10pc) tasted fresh as can be expected. Shrimp & vegetable tempura (7 pcs) were fried till slightly dry. The teriyaki salmon was lightly-seasoned so the fillet flavour was a bit off. Quantity over quality. Along with fried tofu, rice, miso soup & salad, the portion was nearly enough for 2 meals. As part of my current menu capture, I noticed the pricing was lower than was quoted to me over the phone. First, the owner explained it was due to me not asking for lunch pricing. Then when I showed her dinner menu needs an update to reflect it, she indicated prices increased on their (non-existent) website. Sometimes it's hard to be a good Yelper!

Gallery Sushi near the AGO has been here for many years. The decor is pretty modest and it's not a fancy sushi spot. I've missed giving it a shot for a long time because it offers All-You-Can-Eat, so I thought the quality might not be great. I'm wrong, and I'm glad we gave it a try. We ordered a la carte. It offers excellent value for the price you pay. It's not premium sushi, however it does the job to satisfy my sushi cravings. Most importantly, the sashimi was fresh, especially the salmon. We ordered the specialty roll (with soft shell crab) and the bento box. All were tasty. The roll was generous in size, stuffed with ingredients with a thin layer of rice. The only slight con would be that the sushi pieces could easily fall apart because the slices were cut slightly too narrow. Maybe also because of the little rice, they had in the roll, but I love that about it too. There is a steady flow of customers in this location, and I can see why they continue stay in business all these years.

No frills sushi spot inside the Village By The Grange. Conveniently located near OCAD, it has its fair share of walk-ins coming to pickup takeout orders. It has been open for almost 16 years. Remember to ask for ginger or wasabi which can be provided upon request.

Honestly, surprisingly decent!! Didn't really expect much because the outside looks kinda dingy. But looks can be deceeeiiiving. Service was a bit slow in terms of the food coming out. There's only one guy working the kitchen so all the stuff we ordered literally came out one item at a time. Price is average. The food was average! Nothing outstanding, but nothing terrible. Fish was fresh. No complaints really... just a normal bento box. FYI.. you can order from the lunch special menu... but only the lower half of that menu is available for dinner time!

Spicy salmon, avocado and salmon rolls

One of the more reliable AYCE sushi in the downtown area. The fish is fresh, dependable rice ratio, service is quick and the people who work there are super nice. The only downside is their roll offering is pretty basic, but for me, that works out for me as I only really eat spicy salmon, dynamite and sashimi. You should definitely give it a try. It's a cheaper alternative, especially on the weekends and there really isn't any downside to it. If you go, get the spicy salmon! So good.

Great AYCE place! Only about $19 for lunch. Rice layer is thin and soft. They are generous with stuffings and toppings, and rolled up into huge pieces. If you're thinking about sushi and somewhere cheap and delicious, this is definitely a good place.

Bento box L4

Came here for a late Saturday lunch, and wasn't feeling as hungry so we opted to order à la carte. There are some great lunch specials and we had the 12 piece chirashi and a bento box that came with 4 pieces of nigiri, 3 pieces of California roll, 7 pieces of mixed tempura, fried tofu, rice, and salad. Sashimi slices were extremely thick and fresh, and the bento box had a lot of variety. Will continue to come back to this wonderful spot.

Great value for AYCE - $20! Came here for dinner on a Weds, and it wasn't that busy. The AYCE is worth it just for the sashimi and the rolls. I loved the white sashimi (I can't remember the name of it, but it's the one that's solid white in colour). Salmon sashimi was also good and thickly cut. We ordered a variety of rolls and they were all very well done. Lots of selection, and great filling-to-rice ratio. My fav was the spicy tuna. Just get any of the spicy ones, really. The spicy flavour they add is unique and delicious. The takoyaki balls were good too. The fried stuff (ie tempura, calamari) were pretty average. The seaweed salad tasted a bit off to me. Didn't really like the seasoning in the beef teriyaki. Overall, though, could be a really amazing AYCE sushi experience if you just order the good stuff. I would definitely return for AYCE here!

Convenient location, clean little dining room, and friendly service, but disappointing rolls. The Spicy Tuna Roll was atypical; rather than a piece of tuna with a seaweed and rice roll, it's 'hash' of sriracha rice, tuna bits, and a few crunchy tempura flakes in the roll. The Alaska Roll (salmon, cucumber, and avocado) was bland unbalanced, and loosely rolled.

Menu during AYCE dinner

Commenting for dinner AYCE during weekday night. Their short menu is made up by delicious sushi. Personally I'd prefer more extensive menu for AYCE, but if you're quality over quantity person, go for it. Also, if you look at the menu, it's like they allow the customers to order each item 3 times only. I'm not sure for fact that they do this, so double check with the place. Update: The current price for AYCE (as of April 2018) is $23+tax.

Flying fish roe sushi?
Kris X.

How this place has 4 stars on Yelp is beyond me. This place serves both regular and AYCE menu. We chose AYCE. First of all, service was non-existent. The one (only one) waitress was running around trying to serve the whole restaurant plus non-stop takeout orders. We had to help ourselves to napkins & chopsticks. The wait for food was over an hour after we ordered, because apparently the takeout orders had to be served first. Now the food, I'm not too picky when it comes to AYCE but this is really disappointing. Everything is made to "cut-cost". Miso soup has no tofu/seaweed, flying fish roe sushi is a chunk of rice with some fish roe sprinkled on top.. The spider row tasted like nothing.. Even the ice cream tasted like it's been stale for months (how do you screw that one up??) Will not return again.

Usually deserted, I was afraid to visit this Sushi joint in the Village by the Grange. I finally overcame my fears and got some takeout. Good call. For $5.50 you get 2 x 6 rolls (that's 12) in a number of options: California, crab salad, shrimp, yam, squash, asparagus, veggie, avocado and cucumber. I have yet to dine here and try sashimi and other options, but I will someday. Obligatory Title Pun: Sushi GALL-ore. Menu Readability: I'm only familiar with their quaintly hand-printed sandwich board. Need to mention: They offer all-you-can-eat every single day. What this place teaches me about myself: It shouldn't take me over a year to work up the nerve to eat at a sushi place.

There were three add-ons (toro with caviar $25, uni with caviar $35, and caviar sushi). I opted in for the toro and uni add-ons. It was strange they give you the add-ons before any other nigiri. Everything was very good and fresh. Standouts for me was the appetizer, all three cuts of bluefin tuna, the lobster (by far my favorite), and the hotaru ika. I would've appreciated knowing that the omakase included or not included toro and uni before I decided on the add-ons but I don't regret it. It was a splurge night after all. Service was very attentive. Note that the dining space is very small. 12 seats around the counter and two tables. There was a very loud gentleman two seats from me who never learned to use his inside voice and totally ruined vibe. But that's not on the staff. Another note is that gratuity is automatic on the bill.

The space itself leans more modern and clean rather than the typical dark, cozy izakaya vibe, which I actually didn't mind. It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent. The beef fried rice was straightforward but satisfying, one of those dishes that's easy to keep going back to between everything else. Drinks were a nice touch too.. refreshing, nicely presented, and added to the overall experience. Overall, this feels like a solid spot for a casual night out with friends.
