FOOD - 2/5. Presentation was decent, however I was not amazed by the taste and texture of the fish. I had the Teriyaki Salmon lunch special with rice and salad. Salmon had a weird texture, I think the food is not high quality but they do well with what they have. MENU - 4/5. What you would expect at a popular Japanese-American restaurant. Lots of trendy choices that would probably do well in a outing with friends with low budget. SERVICE - 4/5. Server was nice and patient while we made our orders. Food came out fast. ATMOSPHERE - 3/5. Typical Asian restaurant. Lots of seating and very neat. Sat near the window, so that was nice. VALUE - 3/5. We were travelling so cooking was not at the top of our priorities. There are restaurants in the area that are probably more expensive but maybe might taste better. Ordered a dynamite roll and was disappointed. The rice proportion is off, tempura batter is soggy and the veggies are poorly cut. They have one large chunk of cucumber and avocado plus tempura shrimp covered in tobiko and sauce. Didn't taste super fresh. The rice is not seasoned (well or enough for me to taste) and looked just okay. One order comes with 8 pieces. I don't recommend people to eat here. My friend worked here many years ago and he said the oil they use to deep fried doesn't change until the oil becomes black. They use chemical spray to clean the deep frying machine without covering the oil they use. He also told me that a lot of the sushi chef doesn't wash their hands after they use the washroom. We've been eating a lot of supermarket sushi these days, so when the opportunity arose to eat freshly-made sushi from an actual restaurant, we jumped at the chance. And maybe it's *because* we've been eating all that supermarket fare, but the sushi here is actually pretty decent. It's not going to knock your socks off, but it certainly gets the job done. We decided to share the Mixed Set A ("6 pieces each of california maki, tuna maki, and salmon maki"), which also came with a tasty salad and a pretty typical miso soup. The sushi is all quite well made, and we gobbled it all up happily. I wouldn't say I had a single bite that stopped me in my tracks, but sometimes you just want some well-prepared, affordable sushi. The only negative aspect to our meal was our super, super surly waiter. He really seemed to either hate us or himself, because he barely said anything to us and would quickly grab things from the table or place them down with absolutely zero care. Came here randomly by myself for takeout after an appointment I had nearby. It's a cozy little restaurant with a decent amount of seating and dim lighting. I wasn't greeted upon entering the restaurant but in all honesty based on my past experiences with eating at sushi restaurants, their customer service level isn't usually very high. Anyway, when I finally made eye contact with one of the waiters, I told him that I wanted takeout and he pointed to a stack of menus and walked away. After placing my order I probably waited up to 5 minutes max (SAY WHATTTT ). I'm used to waiting a million years to receive my sushi so that was definitely a plus for me. Note that this place is a tad bit pricey in compassion to other sushi bars I typically go to but that's also something I expected due to the area its located in. Anyway, I went with the #66 Silver Bento Box which included 3 pc cucumber roll and 3 pc salmon roll (as I don't eat raw fish I opted to substitute the salmon for all cucumber, which the waiter said was fine), vegetable tempura, deep fried tofu and steamed right with teriyaki chicken on top. This food was the NASTIEST TASTING FOOD I'VE EVER HAD! The tofu had absolutely no seasoning on it and literally tasted like a blob of unflavoured gelatin, the tempura was soggy and lukewarm (borderline cold), the sushi was super tasteless, and don't even get me started with the tasteless chicken and overly thick teriyaki sauce . I also got this soup looking thing (I've attached a picture to this review) and I have no clue what it is. It only filled about 1/8 of the container it was in and was tasteless as well. I take back being impressed by the 5 minute wait. I'd rather wait 30 minutes and get my money's worth and a happy belly rather than waiting 5 minutes and get the shittiest tasteless food known to humankind. No I don't recommend this place. No I won't be back. No I wouldn't eat this food again even if you paid me to do it. No I wouldn't eat here if it were the last food on earth. No I wouldn't recommend. We had veggie maki, sushi, miso soup, chicken teriyaki, veggie tempura, dumplings, rice, edemame and spring rolls. All fresh, tasty and authentic. Prices are reasonable and fair. After all these years, Sushi Inn still remains my go-to restaurant for a relatively cheap-and-cheerful meal in the Bloor-Yorkville area. It's also very conveniently located near the TTC (Bay Station). The food is always fresh, tasty and consistent, the service is quick, and my favourite "Sushi Inn" bento box lunch special is reasonably priced at $12.75. Recently I went on a weekday afternoon at around 2pm and was surprised to see that the restaurant was crowded and buzzing with activity. The tables are still a little too close together and at times it feels a bit cramped, but I suppose this is how they accommodate the crowds and wait times. As long as Sushi Inn is still around, I'll keep going back whenever I'm in the area. read more

Do I live close to this resturant ? NO Do I always come to this resturant? YES This sushi place is FRESH, TASTY and has such original sushi rolls/dishes! It's always busy however the turnover is quite fast, I came here on Saturday evening around 830 and the wait was only 20 minutes. The staff are t overly friendly but they are attentive. I haven't tried their noodles dishes / soups but I've had a variety of their rolls, they're all tasty, not overly sauced and stuffed. My favorite set is the scallop sushi roll set which comes with a hand roll,maki and nigiri. Some other rolls that standout are the rolls wrapped in cucumber and salmon (great for the people who are avoiding carbs). The reason for the 4/5 instead of 5/5 is because it is a little pricey however it's yorkville ... so it's expected. read more

It seems like I can't escape Yorkville. I've worked in this neighbourhood most of my adult life. Although I spend a lot of time cursing the overpriced restaurants and the rude snobs that strut by, I acknowledge that Yorkville has its redeeming qualities. Sushi Inn is one of them. Located on Cumberland, this restaurant is surprisingly cheaper than expected, given its posh location. The interior is air conditioned in the summer and accomodating to large groups. During lunch, many coworkers come here for a bite so it might be hard to find seating. I only order sashimi and it's delicious. I always get the Silver Sashimi Combo and a Raw Seaweed salad. The seaweed salad is served in a medium-sized bowl and the portion is bigger than most sushi restaurants I've been to. My total for the combo and salad is about $30 with tip. I came to Sushi Inn on Friday and it was okay. The ambiance was nice and the restaurant seemed busy. I ordered a sashimi combo. The fish was okay but it wasn't the fresh melt in your mouth variety. All over the food was okay but I wouldn't give this place 5-stars. I also asked the waitress if we could have a teapot on our table since I kept calling her over to refill my glass. She abruptly said no. I was surprised by her reaction. I thought that would save her work but she wasn't cool with that. Every time I asked for more tea I felt bad because she looked kind of annoyed. They also seemed kind of stingy. I asked for more ginger since I can't use soya sauce and the other waiter immediately pointed out that I had some more on my plate. I had to wait until I finished all the ginger before asking for more. When I did ask for more, the waiter seemed shocked that I made the request. My friend enjoyed his food. The bathrooms are gendered. The menu has some vegetarian options but doesn't particularly cater to them. Do not expect any new or exciting options. Set meals range from around $15-20 a person and includes a soup and salad. The miso was actually pretty good. The restaurant also provides free tea. My friend and I ordered some tempura, rolls and sashimi. The tempura was absolutely delicious. It was hot and puffy without being greasy and heavy. The spicy tuna rolls were a little disappointing, as they were merely tuna rolls with spicy mayo blobbed on top. I will say the sashimi was very fresh and the cuts were very nicely executed. Sushi Inn is my go to place when I can't decide what I want to eat or even when I can decide on what to eat but choose Sushi Inn instead anyways. There is almost never a wait. The staff is nice enough but don't expect any added chatter unless of course you engage the waitress. On some occasions I've struck up conversations with my waitress which led to extra candies in the end with my cheque (woohoo!) and other times when I just wanted to enjoy my meal quietly (although its never really quiet there) they would leave me be. The food is good. I wouldn't say fantastic nor the freshest but its good in the sense that the high traffic means the turnover of sea creatures is quick. I have been here once or twice when the food was not up to par but about 80% of the time I've visited; I have left satisfied. The price point is fantastic for Yorkville. I live in the area so in a year I frequent this restaurant more than a dozen time. The gindara is probably what brings me back to this specific restaurant. Everything else on the menu is standard dishes I can find at other sushi restaurants. My order has always arrived quickly and in the past 4 years they have never messed up my order no matter how many alterations I've made. Love this place. Love Sushi Inn! It is our go-to Sushi restaurant. I have been going there for more than 20 years and we have always left happy. The combinations offered in their menu help select among the many types of sushi. The salmon sushi is always fresh. Service is quick and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant. Update with covid- we have taken out from Sushi Inn. The quality and selection remain the same. Just plan ahead because it takes a while for delivery if that's what you need.
