#4 in my NEW ENGLAND & NY COFFEE SHOP SERIES One of my favorite coffee shops in New Haven! Great food, great coffee, and great vibes! Anytime I need a pick-me-up and a place to study, I always come here. They have all your classic coffee shop drinks and teas as well as seasonal speciality items. In the past I have gotten an iced coffee maple milk tea ($3.50) and the seasonal strawberry coffee cold brew. I have also tried their vanilla latte and dirty chai's which are equally good. It is not the best coffee I have ever had, but definitely a great choice. They also have tasty food! My personal favorite is the folded egg and cheese biscuit. But they have so many other breakfast and lunch items. They are also open late if you needed to study and eat for a long amount of time. Large communal table, bar seating by the window, and smaller tables to study with friends. Fun fact: they have trivia nights on Sunday!

Love the constantly changing menu and that Eden and Windsor are great at accommodating any concoction I come up with. People watching and sitting looking out the window is the best.

I needed a place to get some work done and eat some lunch and I stumbled upon Fussy. The space is very warm with a lot of natural sunlight. I went on a Saturday morning during homecoming so it was quite busy and space can be tight inside, but I was able to get some work done. I ordered a quinoa bowl. The shrimp was delicious but everything else to me just tasted like it was just there would've liked some more flavor to it , but it is a healthy option. The Thai tea was all that I want in a thai tea, delicious, creamy, and rich. I was able to grab street parking even though it was crowded and there is a parking garage very close by. I would return to try other drinks and plates.

For reasons felt only by fellow food nerds, I'm trying to visit and review all the well known NH coffee spots. Fussy is a bit north of downtown in an area called Science Park. I was able to grab one of a few nearby street spots, but there is a nearby large parking garage that I assume was public. Fussy is part of a large building that I hear is part Yale, part startup businesses. Inside is nice and modern. Many people were working or hanging out at a decent number of tables. For warm weather, there is a nice courtyard out front with some seating as well. I ordered a Black Iced Coffee. I asked the person who helped me about the coffee used and he knew right away that is was a Seattle roaster Kuma. I appreciated his working knowledge of their coffee and the fact that they used a quality roaster that other CT coffee shops don't use. Service was friendly. The coffee wasn't one of my favorite flavor profiles, but it was smooth and well executed. I liked the branding, which looks like a snake pretzel handshake. I would definitely return to Fussy, but it is not especially convenient to other businesses I visit in New Haven. If you visit at a non-peak time, it actually offers quick in and out because of the street parking. 4.5 Stars

I love Fussy Coffee! Wonderful food options for breakfast and lunch. I always opt for one of their coffee specials. A great spot to get some work done, meet some friends for coffee, or sip some cocktails during Sunday trivia. During the school year, weekends are packed with Yale students so seating can be limited. They do have some tables for outdoor seating as well. Order up at the counter and they'll bring it over to your table. The food always comes out quickly even when they're super busy.

I can't say enough great things about Fussy Coffee! I love eating and grabbing a drink here, the service is fantastic - the baristas are very cool, kind, and friendly. There is always a spot somewhere, even if it's a squeeze on a busy day, and the environment is very chill. I wish there were more couches or casual hangs, but it'd be difficult to accommodate enough people that way. It's a casual place to work away from home, though not particularly comfy/homey in the same way a Koffee? is. They play music, and depending on the mood you're in, it may be a bad playlist fit for your day, but I enjoy it. Parking is the most stressful part, but there is typically a street spot open as you approach OR, at least for now, there's a lot of open parking on Munson street, if you're willing to walk a little bit. Food? Excellent. Coffee? Excellent. A little expensive but that's the way New Haven seems to be. My favorite spot at the moment!

First time at Fussy Coffee and it's added to my list of cute breakfast spots. Stopped by on a Friday afternoon to grab a quick bite. I got the egg sandwich and a hot chocolate. Both were really good so I'm looking forward to trying out other items on the menu.

I'm always on the lookout for new coffee shops to study in - my favorite cafe study spots have an airy atmosphere, an unobtrusive playlist, plenty of outlets, clean tables, lots of seating and of course tasty drinks. Fussy coffee checks all my boxes! I especially love how there's a variety of tables to choose from - indoor, outdoor, communal tables, bar/standing tables, etc.

This is a beautiful coffee shop and a great place to get work done. It is often very busy, so if you walk in and see an open seat available, take it! It's a larger enough space that you can get some work done despite the amount of people who are there. If you're not a big coffee drinker, that's OK. They have amazing drinks. That aren't caffeinated. Such as the one in the photo the ginger lemon fog. Absolutely delicious. I had the grass fed burger, which was a decent size came with a delicious salad and a pickle. The only difficulty is the parking it's best if you can walk to this location however, other than that this is a great place to take your laptop put in some earbuds and get some work done!

This was a super cool place. Loved my turmeric latte. My friend's latte art said "fussy coffee" which was awesome (I've never seen that done before with latte art). My friend ordered us breakfast burritos. Definitely the way to go! Attentive service and nice calm atmosphere.

As a night shift I love that this place opens at 7:30a. The food was delicious and coffee and cocktails were strong! Food came out quickly and the servers were pleasant. 2 long tables could accommodate large groups and when warmer there is outdoor space as well. Definitely worth a try!

Came here when just walking in the area. Got some Thai tea and sat out on the benches. Great spot to sit and get some work done.

Sometimes they don't have whipped topping. But the baristas are nice and make substitutes. Lots of good looking people here.

Ask the Community - Fussy Coffee

    Where is the place located?

There's a very large new parking garage with ground-floor retail that runs along Winchester Avenue. Fussy is in the southwest corner of that building, situated along the bike trail and facing Munson Street, the bikesharing station, and the large…

We arrived on a Monday around peak dinner time, but there was essentially no wait (apparently uncommon according to my friend -- just a delightful consequence of dining at a college town during the summer). We split a medium pizza (1/2 elote mexican street corn and 1/2 bbq brisket), proving to be more than enough for two plus a more than ample amount of leftovers. Recently, I've gravitated toward thinner pizzas, a far cry from the typical Detroit (foccacia-esque) style pizzas I used to prefer, and BAR's pizza is akin to a flatbread yet very thin, another fallen angel to the GLP's. The undercarriage boasts a brilliant crust, almost cracker-like. However, it should be noted that the pizza is indulgent all the same. The elote pizza is quite possibly the most memorable, unique pizza I've ever had; it arrives almost crimson-red with a generous layer of corn and takis atop. It's still incredibly well balanced despite the hodgepodge of varied toppings. It's hard to pick a favorite between this and the bbq brisket though; while one is incredibly unique the other is simply sumptuous, nothing pedestrian about either of the two. The service is also impeccable, almost rivaling that of southern hospitality. I always thought Californians were friendly but something is in the air every time I visit New Haven. Incredible!

Based on a recommendation, four friends and I visited for an earlier dinner on Cinco de Mayo (yes,…read morewrong type of cuisine, but we were in town and this restaurant was on our list.) BAR is an interesting restaurant: open air, picnic tables, open space, paper plates, no utensils unless you ask for them, etc. We were greeted right away by a less than friendly waiter who seemed peeved we didn't have a drink to order right away. Strike one. After a few minutes, everyone put their drink order in and I asked if the bartender could make me a mojito since it wasn't on the menu. The waiter said yes, so I waited. Then came the mojito. It was the worst "mojito" I've tasted in my life. I'm not one to send a drink back because of an "I don't taste any alcohol" excuse, but this was BAD. It tasted like margarita mix with lime and mint sprigs thrown in. It was absolutely terrible. When I double checked with the waiter if the drink was an original mojito he simply said yes, not "is something wrong with the drink?" or "would you like to send it back?" The drink was so bad I told him I couldn't drink it. He was peeved again. Strike two. I asked for a soft drink instead and the soda was flat (strike 3), but at this point I just needed something to drink... because who wants to have water with their pizza? Then came the time to make a dinner choice. My mission was to try the mashed potato pizza. It was hands down AMAZING!! Mashed potatoes and bacon on a pizza. Yes, please!! This was the only saving grace from my experience. I would return to BAR again if only for that pizza! Two of my friends had the clam pizza and the pepperoni/mushroom. Both enjoyed their own! Warming: New Haven pizza is thin crust. I got two meals out of a small, so if you visit with a group, consider ordering a few small pizzas so you can taste a few. I would've given BAR 4 or 5 stars, but the unpleasant waiter, the "mojito," and the flat sofa made for a trifecta, so I'm giving my visit 3 stars. If I find myself in New Haven again, I'll be back! Hopefully my next update will be 5 stars!
