When it comes to sales, there's no real difference between dealers, what sets one apart from the other is post-sale follow-up and service. To make a long review short(er), I bought my last Harley from Bayside because they could get it in a reasonable time. On delivery, the mechanic (a true wrench) took the time to explain everything and made some adjustments and installed a lot of additional parts I wanted. Each step of the way, I trusted his advice and solid craftsmanship in taking care of my bike. A good man! The Service Dept "customer facing staff", was not quite such a great experience, seeming aloof and certainly knew more about the customer and what they wanted than the customer. As with many others (including the mechanic) had done, I left for another dealer. Fast forward to today. All three HD dealers in SE Virginia have been consolidated into one, at the old Bayside HD location. Needing service I stopped by to schedule it in person. The new dealership, Ironclad HD, was an exercise in organized chaos and cat herding. Trying to combine the inventory and customer base of three dealers in the region is no small feat. But, I found that the initial "meet and greet" with the service staff was professional and as good as could be expected. I scheduled an appointment for a routine oil change and was glad to see they honored the pre-paid maintenance agreement I had when I purchased the bike. So I bring it in for service this morning and found the disarray of a couple weeks ago was lessened, but the service staff seemed very positive still. Also found out that my favorite mechanic had returned. Bonus. My low expectations for the experience were shattered! From initial check-in to walking out the door at the end, communication with the service writer, Vegas was timely and on point all the way. Now granted, this was a simple routine maintenance visit but if I got treated like this every time, that's a thousand-fold improvement over the previous service staff. Bravo Zulu (as we say in the Navy) Vegas and the Ironclad staff, you've brought at least one customer back. Just please, PLEASE do something with your customer waiting area. That was the most spartan, uncomfortable experience since I had to hot-rack on an FFG-7........ Of course, Ludacris blaring as background music wasn't the most enjoyable either. Just one old white guys opinion....... Looking forward to future visits.

I filled out the appointment details online but didn't hear back from them so I called and one of the mechanics told me "I'm too busy to pay attention to that online BS just bring the bike in and we'll look at it". They are busy and it took them about a month to get the repair estimate but once I gave the go ahead they were terrific about keeping me updated about the status of the work being performed. After Mike got done working on it and I took it down Tidewater on the way home the bike ran like brand new. Of course it helped that I had drained the tank before putting it into storage. Real old school, reliable way of doing motorcycle maintenance.

*****Racially profiled and accused of stealing during a test drive. *****…read more I came in to look at an ATV, I had already been in contact with CAMERON THE GENERAL MANAGER about a month before this. My jeep was in the shop so I wasn't able to buy one then. I went in and talked to CAMERON THE GENERAL MANAGER, he showed me the ATV and I asked if I was able to test drive the ATV. He asked for my license and I gave it to him. I rode down their road for maybe 4 seconds. I was trying to do a U-turn only to see CAMERON THE GENERAL MANAGER, chasing me down on a dirt bike and yelling something. I went into the main road to turn around and at this point he is right next to me. He cursed at me to "turn the fuck around" and I told him that's exactly what I am already doing.... We get back to the dealership and he asked me "so what did you think?" I said what was that about, did you think i was trying to steal this? He said "you never know" I asked him if people have come here to steal before he said "well they tried but i chased them with my dirt bike." I told him I'm not sure how many thieves text you from their personal number, drive their personal vehicle, and give you their license before they would steal something. I'm wondering if those same thieves were just people that requested a test drive like me. I asked for my license back and left. He did try to claim he was chasing me because I was in the main road, but he was flying down the street before I even turned into the main road so I know that is not true, it's an excuse. Extremely embarassing . I do not adivse you to buy here if you are a person of color.

When I would bump into other Indian riders on the road, all of them it seemed would tell me I need check out Indian of Southeastern Virginia. They are farther for me to reach, about 1.5 hours each way, but I used the ride one day as an excuse to go down there. I just randomly stopped in on a weekday. Ed, the owner, was there and made small talk with me. Others had told me he could be a bit prickly but we had a fine conversation. He did seemed turned off that I had not bought a new bike from them and that my most recent was purchased used, but he was polite about it. I then went back when they did an Indian demo days and I rode multiple bikes over a number of hours. I interacted with Ed and others on the staff that day. Everyone was very polite and upbeat. I recently visited during one of their anniversary party events. They had a "spin the wheel" for a discount and I got a discount of 40% and bought a $500+ leather jacket I had my eye on. I can tell you the "spin the wheel" at the other dealership I mentioned was a joke. Basically meant for you to lose, or you might get 10% off something if you're lucky. This place had generous prizes. Appreciated that. I decided to take my bike to them today for the first time getting a 5k service. They handled the scheduling all by text message which I really appreciate. As soon as I pulled in, Dave came out to greet me and they got right on it. I ended up being there about 2.5 hours and I could see the tech was working on my bike the entire time. I think they also did a washing/detail of the bike. That is fantastic! I had a 5k service performed on another bike at the other bad dealer I mentioned, and it was over like in 45 minutes to an hour. They tried to tell me that Indian lets them charge for 2 hours but that "they are efficient" and do a better job than the average Indian dealer. Yeah, right. I can see they just cut corners. When I asked if I got a cheaper price because they didn't spend 2 hours on it, they told me that of course not, they make a profit by being more efficient. What a joke. I feel this place did a great job on the 5k. Last thing I'll mention is that they had a bunch of great clearance deals on clothing. I also had 4 coupons with me today, one for a discount on the 5k service, a birthday coupon, and two other Indian promo discounts. Dave worked with me on all of them, with a good mood, and treated me great. I can't say enough about how great I felt about the whole experience. The other "bad dealer" I mention, any time I had a coupon they acted like I was a criminal. The wife part of the ownership actually accused me of using the coupon at another location and trying to pawn it off on them and using it again. Kept complaining

I drove an hour and a half to work with him again instead of going to Indian Motorcycles of Hampton Roads, just 25 minutes from me. When it came time to pay, I learned they required a cashier's check -- something I hadn't been told (bought both my previous motorcycles from Cycle World in VB on a credit card w no issues.) I was eager to ride the bike home, so wanted to find a solution. I asked Erik about credit card, debit card, wire transfer, etc. but was told the owner doesn't allow these methods. Feeling it was worth a conversation, I asked to speak w him. I offered to pay in full on debit, cover credit card fees, or even wire the funds, After a short discussion, he said there may be an option and walked away. Me and Erik continued w the sale and trade-in, signing docs and finalizing everything. The owner comes back a few minutes later, leading to the below conversation: Owner: "as an owner, I can do anything" Me: "fantastic, that's what I love to hear!" Owner: "and I would be STUPID to ever accept a debit card.." Me: "So no option to buy this today" Owner: "well, you need to understand why" Me: "I understand why, you don't want to take any risk." Owner: "but I need to explain so you understand" Me: "Stop talking, I understand why. It's over, you won't do it, I'm just going to try the other location closer to my house next time" He then says verbatim, "Oh, so now you want to be a fu-king douche bag and not be my friend?" To be fair, Erik did warn me speaking w him was a waste of time... Within 2 minutes, I went from ecstatic to be buying an Indian to feeling completely disrespected and disgusted with this business owner. All because I'm trying to pay him $12,000 for a motorcycle. As a note, 4 employees witnessed this and 2 of them made comments to me after the incident apologizing for his behavior and implying he's not fun to work with. Outside of this conversation, the guy had seemed nice. Pretty rude a few times "have you ever even done a wire?" and "well, are you sure your bank account can cover it?" (At which point I pulled up my checking account and showed him to alleviate concerns) but I brushed these comments off as I look young and understand the stereotype. Obviously hits another level when he feels a sale is threatened.. Erik is great if you want to learn about Indian motorcycles, but after that, I'd strongly recommend buying elsewhere and not supporting this arrogant owner. He did say "ride safe" as I was gearing up to leave on my bike, so there's that.. *the business is of course free to respond, however, I would kindly ask they provide surveillance video should you try to dispute any of these facts*

Asked them if it would be done before April 23 so I can go to Men & Women How Like To Ride in Ocean City because if not I wasn't going to rent this house. They told me it would be so go ahead and rent the house. When close to that time came I went to check on bike and absolutely nothing was done to bike except my switches for airride was ran from handlebars. So I lost money on the house I rented that cost me $400.So middle of May comes and I walk in and the y just had my front wheel on bike without the airride wired up or nothing done from previous visits. So while there I walk to my bike and Debbie who works there comes back to where I was with bike and I ask if the airride is installed. She gets smart with me and says the wheel is on the bike so push it the hell up outta here. With that being said I walked out of there shop and go get a trailer to come get my bike and my parts that I brought. So they loss my Sony 7000 keep my wiring that I payed $500 for.I bought a Soudigital 2400 amp from them.So took my bike Big Woods Customs and had everything done there. While hooking up everything the amp that I had bought from them was bad.So I call them and they told me to bring it and they will send out to get fixed,no not give me a new amp but to get fixed. So now they have a Sony 7000 that was on back order for week so I had to use a used Sony 5000 out of a display and they have my amp.So I take them to court. They tell judge that they did most of the work and that they found my Sony 7000 under there couch,by the way when I was there to pick up parts Debbie and I looked all around the couch and under it so that was BS they used it on another bike that was at his shop but didnt know that they were on back order. They written up invoices showing parts that they credited me that I never ever heard of.They also told judge that they refunded/credited me for my amp that they told me they were sending back to get fixed and had phony invoices for that as well.So besides me losing $2900 on work being done on bike, they also got me for $400 from my house rental and also got me for my amp.BASICALLY is wasn't about the money.ITS ABOUT GETTING RIPPED OFF BY THESE SHADY SHOP LIKE PETE'S CUSTOM CYCLES.And believe me that every event I go to I am going to tell whoever and might even get some Tshirts made letting people know about that shady shop.RIP OFF ARTISTS AT ITS BEST.
