Funny Library is tucked inside a hotel and features whimsical decor with fun, creative seating. There was a long line for coffee in the morning, likely due to hotel guests checking out and its close proximity to the convention center. I ordered an eggnog latte and waited for a while, but when I checked back in, they let me know they actually didn't have eggnog and made me a matcha latte instead. The matcha was pretty good, so I happily went with it. I also tried a pastry, which they kindly warmed up for me. Out of all of the coffee shops in my area this is the one I frequent most. It's right across the street from my house, and is always open when I need them. Coffee is always fresh and tasty, and the barista's are super friendly and Now know me by my name. Akeyla is my favorite barista. Billed as "part coffee shop, part lounge, part remote office and part meeting spot", I would argue it is also "part game room, part photo op, and part uber waiting room". The instantly welcoming place is a strikingly whimsical and texturally busy space for the hotel, which is something lacking from the Virgin in Chicago. (The hotel, not D'anthony, the zoo volunteer that speaks Mandalorian). The musically-pumpin' place is comfortable, though a little to sterile to be truly cozy. Knick-knack kitschy, it's a perfect setting for a Richard Scarry book, filled to the rim with games, books, plants, lamps, art, a mannequin in a bunny suit that manages to not be out of place, and pillows with patterns so singular they can only be described as "Joann's clearance bin", all splashed with more red than a Ron Howard family reunion under the two suns of Tattooine. The blackberry mocha was good, but my wife liked the pisatchio mocha the best. A place for $6 drips (Columbe), $3 cookies, $8 bagels, and $18 breakfast sandwiches (hot breakfast options run $17-24) this place is the only thing funding Virgin Galactic. Five stars for offering free infused water, though they only fill it once. They should refill it at 5 because we were the ones manhandling it like a stolen ATM, shaking out the last drops like Steve Martin's canteen in Three Amigos. If you're familiar with other the effelles (F.L.'s, you can steal that, Richie Rich), this one ranked the highest (4.5) compared to Nashville (4.4), Dallas (4.1), and Vegas (3.8). read more

Stayed in the Virgin Hotel, and stopped in to Funny Library before heading to the airport. I'm always encouraged when the barista warns me that my macchiato will be tiny - that means they know what they're doing! It was delicious, and my plain bagel with cream cheese didn't disappoint either. My friends were pleased with their food orders as well! Such a fun atmosphere - I think it would take a long time to run out of quirky things to amuse yourself with. My only complaint is that the 20% off coupon I received as part of my stay was apparently only valid the first day of my stay, but I believe that is on the hotel, not Funny Library! read more

Located on the first floor of the Virgin Hotel New Orleans is a peculiar, colorful, and eccentric Cafe. This eclectic 'library' features a lovely selection of drinks and small-eats. It would be five stars if the cashiers/waitresses/baristas were a bit more inviting and kind. It is bizarre how salty and/or angry hospitality folks are while on the clock, and even on their cellphones like you're bothering them? Because we are paying guests at the hotel, we expect to be treated with kindness and grace. Today, we just didn't get that. We weren't even served water, had to ask, and received an almost "eye roll" because of it. All team members need coaching on kindness vs. rudeness; smiles vs. "attitude" at 8am. It's not cool. I stopped by Funny Library while walking near the Saint Charles line the other day and really enjoyed it. The interior of the cafe is well-decorated with a sort of whimsical, absurdist style that feels like you're having coffee with a character out of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. A variety of vintage armchairs sit in cozy corners around the shop, and in the middle of the space there is a large central table with a modern mid-century light fixture hanging overhead. Apart from the furniture, there were also a few little things that I enjoyed about Funny Library - on the shelves there were collections of books, old TVs, fossils and pop art, and when I placed my order, they handed me a playing card from a vintage board game instead of a typical number. These small touches really make places stand out to me in a way that I especially appreciated at Funny Library. I ordered a chai latte and the mini churro fritters, which came out to just short of $13. All things considered - ambiance, service, location, and the quality of the tea and food - not a bad deal, especially in comparison to other cafes in the area. The chai was made super well and tasted great, and they had alternative milk options available. The churro fritters were also super delicious, freshly made-to-order, and came with a cup of caramel sauce that was super tasty. Total aside, but I loved the decorating in their bathroom and it was super clean, well-maintained and had up-to-date appliances. Just another indication that whoever designed the cafe paid a lot of attention to details and making the space have a cohesive theme. Altogether, I had a great time and loved just hanging out in Funny Library while I sipped my tea, ate my snack and read the news. I'd definitely stop by again if I was in the area, or recommend the cafe to friends. read more

This place is located within the Virgin Hotel New Orleans. It has a great vibe and comfortable seats. Staff is really nice and spent time talking and getting to know us. Only ordered a drip coffee so can't speak to anything else on the menu but they serve La Columbia coffee which is good. Free WiFi. Gender neutral bathrooms with changing tables inside.
